What a beautiful place to spend the night. After a long day on the road, I stopped at the Brooks Hotel for the night and found a super quaint, beautiful place where the owners are friendly and kind. Got to the bar just before they closed at 9 PM. Bartender a lifelong resident was super friendly. The room I had was great with the best mattress I have ever had in a hotel..... bar none. There were ear plug s on the table but I never heard anything from outside. I'm a bit of an OCD neet freak and when I say that the room was super clean you can take it to the bank! Nice older hotel. The owner was very sweet and welcoming, and the rooms were very clean and our room was updated We had two beds separated by a kitchen and a bathroom so it gave privacy. There was a welcome in the lounge downstairs from 5 to 6 and the locals were so sweet and gracious. Everyone was so nice. The next morning, we had breakfast in the Brooks Hotel restaurant and it really was a great breakfast Our only complaint is they don't have sweet tea, but we know we're not in the south We would highly recommend this locally owned hotel read more

They did a killer job on the room renovations. It's beautiful, clean, and the lighting is wonderful if you have bad eye sight. I heard they are turning the " haunted room" and the room next door into one big suite. Front desk lady and her dog were very helpful and check in was easy and fast. read more

we usually have breakfast here when passing though & it is very tasty. However, we decided to book a room this time. upon arrival we noticed hair all over the pillow & took it to reception & they replaced it & apologized. The reception was closed when we actually came to getting into bed and found hair And bits of skin in the bed, a spot of blood on the sheets so we slept on top of the bed. my husband also photographed the toilet after lifting the seat and it obviously had not been cleaned. We told reception this morning and they apologized but we will never stay here again. They blamed a new cleaner but I feel this is down to bad management. read more

Had breakfast here this morning. The updated dining room is gorgeous. Food was excellent, especially the hash browns. Friendly service.

The price was inexpensive and I liked my room well enough althought the bathroom and hallway could use remodeling. The location is GREAT...in the center of town so you don't need to drive to go out for dinner, shopping, drinks, and so on. The woman at the front desk was friendly and helpful (coming to my door to deliver the cell phone I left in the lobby). The lobby had mini cupcakes and a mini dog the day I checked in. My mom did say her room was cold. read more

I've never stayed in a hotel where hot water was not guaranteed, until now. We love the town of Wallace and will go back but never will we stay at the Brooks Hotel again. First off the smokers from the bar below go outside your window to smoke. We were on the third floor and you could still smell the smoke. But the bigger problems are yet to come. At 9am we went to take a shower....no hot water. I went to the front desk and the woman told me there was nothing they could do about it. She was rude and not accommodating at all. She agreed to take $25 dollars off the bill but she was not even nice about it. So we get done taking two cold showers and I look at the towel I'm supposed to dry off with and there are brown stains all over the towel. Yep, brown stains the towel is filthy, never washed I'm sure. When I went to turn in my key I was not happy. I took the towel and showed her and her face showed fear. I didn't ask for anything and the woman looked super nervous. So what's the first thing she says to me? "If you'd been nicer I could have done more for you." I couldn't believe it. I said "when I came down about the hot water I was irritated but nice but now when I find a brown stained towel and you respond like this, I'm not nice anymore." We will go back to Wallace it's a great town but do yourself a favor, find a place that guarantees a hot shower, and apparently that is not the Brooks Hotel. It's sad the people who own it are trying to renovate the place and make it nicer and it is.....but if you can't treat people right, a remodel is not going to help you. read more

When we raised the issue with the young lady at the front counter, all we received was a "sorry about that". Sounds like a known issue. Overall, the staff, room, etc...were nice enough. A decent place to stay or crash for a night, enroute Yellowstone. We had to travel a really long distance by road and decided to stop over at Wallace for a night. The brooks hotel has excellent staff that actually care about their guests. We got detailed check-in instructions since we were arriving after hours. They also have a restaurant onsite and the chef gave us free coffee as we were heading out early in the morning. Also, loved the town! read more

Friendly waitstaff, nice air conditioned dining room, and delicious breakfast choices await you at the Brooks Hotel restaurant. The Breakfast Burrito, Avocado Toast, Traditional Breakfast, and Huckleberry Pancakes were all excellent choices and my group loved the food. The room we got was very large and spacious 3 beds. Loved the large dining table. We got pizza Togo so it was nice to eat so comfortably. But.... The hotel has a musty smell. We were on the 3rd floor and no elevator. That was rough. The hotel is going through some transitions - I think they are doing some upgrades and I hope it improves! It was a great location. I wish I had more time to explore Wallace. Many of the restaurants were closed on certain days because of being understaffed. Including the one at the hotel although it was open for breakfast and my family enjoyed it. We stayed here as we were doing the Hiawatha bike ride and it was a quick drive to experience that. read more

Really old, dilapidated with no upgrades since sometime in the middle of the last century, is my best guess. The hotel is for sale so maybe they've decided against any improvements. Had I known this I'd have chosen to stay elsewhere. Our windows were on the ground level and we could easily hear folks walking by on the sidewalk that was inches away from our bed. The bath fixtures were old and stained, there weren't any shampoos or bath soaps and only one towel. This is a no go for us. read more

I can't speak to previous reviews, but my partner and I stayed here for a night in room 102 I think. The people at the front desk were super friendly, the room was cute and clean, and the town can be pretty fun. The bathroom was a little small, but for our purposes the room was great... it seemed like they had remodeled and made things feel clean and new without sacrificing too much of that old hotel character. Very nice hotel/restaurant in the heart of downtown Wallace, Idaho. We pass this way fairly often for business and a few days ago, we pulled off for lunch en route to Missoula. Even though it was after 11:30, many of the other eateries in Wallace were still not open, despite there being dozens of vintage car fans in town. The restaurant inside the lobby area is fairly small, but clean and cozy. It was quite full of vintage car buffs, so the place was busy. But service was quite efficient and we got our food without any delays, despite there being only one server (probably they were caught off guard by so many tourists in town at 11:30 on a Tuesday!) We started off with the chicken noodle soup - yum! Very good stuff. I had the BLT and Anne had the tuna melt - and both were just as expected and very tasty. The menu is fairly broad and the prices are very reasonable; the service was terrific, with fast friendly folks running the show. Great choice for a quick lunch when passing through Wallace. Oh dear sweet Jesus please let anyone going to Wallace see this review before staying there! We we're on our way to Montana for a family vacation and decided to stay at this place as my daughter had stayed in Wallace before at a different hotel and suggested we try The Brooks because of the price. We were booked into room 234 which has two beds. Wait let me back up... When I made the reservation the week before the woman I worked with over the phone to book the room was very polite and pleasant so I have nothing negative to say about the customer service at this hotel. Now back to the room. From the beds with black mold growing on the box springs all the way to the coke/meth mirror we found wedged up under the cupboard in the kitchen, what a travelers delight! The water was turned off or just stopped working somewhere around 8 pm for about an hour and every surface of the room was covered in grunge. The maids had left the soap from previous guest on the sink and the bathroom was unusable just in general. Also love cigarette smoke? I hope so because the whole downstairs reeks of it as did the hallway outside of my non smoking room. As a grown ass adult who has stayed in some pretty shoddy places (think East Oakland in the early 90s!) I can tell you that this was far and away the filthiest place I've ever stayed and wouldn't recommend a dog sleep here let alone a human being. Yelp really needs to have the negative star or at least no star option. This place is just the pits. read more

We loved our experience at The Brooks. Friendly welcome by the owner upon check in. Our room was spacious and clean. Wonderful 3rd floor views to the street and shops below. Plenty of coffee. An extra cozy blanket, I used while drinking said coffee and watching it snow. We had breakfast at the restaurant. We were served delicious and huge portions, by a quick and friendly staff. Also enjoyed the in house lounge. The bartender was friendly as were all of the patrons. The hotel is in the middle of downtown within walking distance of all other restaurants and shopping. I forgot to take pictures, I will remember next time we visit. We will be back again for sure. Hopefully sooner then later! Brooks is a small hotel located in a semi-creepy town called Wallace. There are two very old, but very sweet and semi-sassy grandmas that work at the front desk. They are lovely and know how to work the computer better than my mom. Every time you walk out and in the doors, the grandma working at the desk will look up, smile at you, and wave to you. Aside from that, the rooms aren't anything special. They have very old TV's, a sink in the room (not in the bathroom), a window that doesn't lock (you're on the first floor), and an old painting drilled into the wall so you can't steal it (darn it). Everything looks old, the towels feel old, the grandmas are old (?), but it's all clean. We spent the night here so we could make a short trip to our skiing destination in the morning. Nothing feels better than waking up in the morning and realizing you weren't murdered because the windows don't have locks and the axeman that walked by at 10pm didn't break your door and kill you. I wouldn't stay here again, but I'm glad our decision to stay in a cheap hotel became the best decision ever at 8am when we finally left (without being hacked by the axe man!) read more

There must have been a change in management or ownership in the last year. The first time we stayed it was a good experience. This however, was one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had. We booked a king room, when we arrived, we were given a room with three queen beds, for two people! The front desk blamed it on the booking site, claiming we got a "king suite". There were no other rooms available for us to relocate into, so we settled in for our 4 night stay. Now, this three bed room that should sleep six was stocked with three bath towels, four coffee cups and one packet of coffee. The next day, no housekeeping for our room. I had to go down and ask for more coffee for the "complimentary in room coffee". By this time, it was getting warm outside and the third floor room was sweltering, naturally, the air conditioning did not work well. Day three, still no housekeeping. By now the two tiny garbage cans were overflowing and the three bath towels were well past their usability. Back down to the office I went. I was given two towels and was told that they were full and they only had one housekeeper so she probably didn't get to our room before quitting time. Day four, finally housekeeping! The bed was made, one clean towel was left and one of the trash cans was emptied. Of course, no coffee and we still had a full trash can in the bathroom. Thank goodness day five was checkout! read more

A slice of Wallace History. Very economical and featuring old school architecture. My room was double the size of any modern hotel room and came with not two, but three Queen beds with two separate sleeping areas and a tv for each. The breakfast in their cafe was excellent! Horrible...!Myself and co worker were looking for a 2 bed room for one night. Was told they would give us the suite / kitchenette room for $100 plus tax....ok suite for $100 right on...! We are from California and from the start everyone seemed uneasy around us? Maybe the tattoos? But any how got the key which was a old school key, but we made it up to the room to find it to be old VERY OLD...!! Small tube tv's dingy sheets & comforters. Broken A.C. with a small one attached to the window...the list goes on and on...plus the building is so old all I can hear is someone stomping around...!!! I would like to leave but I am to tired....!!! Don't stay...!! read more

The Town of Wallace is absolutely beautiful. Tucked into a mountain pass, you're surrounded by mountains on all sides. It is a perfect place to get away and do some hiking. The Brooks Hotel offers great rates and friendly staff. I honestly can't give it five stars, the common areas could use a little sprucing up, but their café offers some delicious breakfast. read more

I stayed at the Brook's Hotel in Historic Wallace Idaho for a period of 4 days. The hotel itself has a diner, bar and beauty salon. I really enjoyed the experience. My room was very livable. I had a little refrigerator, a microwave and my bed was comfortable. The staff is extremely friendly. They are very knowledgeable about the history of the town. The diner has incredible food and the portions are very filling. I even had to take left overs to my room a couple of times. I did not visit the beauty salon but I did visit the bar. No need to drink and drive. That is a win, win. I would refer this hotel to everybody. It was a great experience for me. read more

My husband and I have been going to the downstairs restaurant in the Brooks Hotel for over four years. We would drive from CdA just to have their breakfast. Sadly, during the past year we have found the quality of the food go down dramatically. We visited "one last time" to give it a chance this past weekend and it was worse than ever before. I ordered my bacon xxcrispy and after waiting over 30 minutes to get served, my bacon had barely been warmed. It was disgusting. I asked the server to please have the cook make it crispy so she took my entire meal (which included biscuits and gravy) and headed to the kitchen where I didn't see it again for 20 minutes. When she returned, all she said was "Sorry bout that" and walked away. Bacon was crisp ... eggs were stone cold. I sure wasn't going to ask for hot eggs because I would not have seen my meal until dinner time. Service is the pits with only one server and she is always walking around in circles acting stressed out. There were only three other patrons in the restaurant when we visited this past weekend so it was NOT busy at all. My husband and I noticed the who "were" there seemed to be people who live in the town who drank all night and have hangovers. It was disgusting to witness. Sad too. We will no longer go there again and my advise to anyone even thinking about eating there is .... "DON'T waste your money." read more
