What a place. And that's a positive in nearly every sense…read more There's a certain charm about this place. It all depends on what you're looking for though. If you want out of the way and off the beaten path, this is your place. The current owners have done a great job of balancing the rustic with the modern. Moose Ridge is on top of a hill. The driveway is about a half-mile winding road bordering on a national forest. Because of that, once you get to the top of the hill, you'll get a nice view and a quiet place to relax. The property itself has a large cabin, a main building and a standalone cabin buried in the woods. The standalone is not visible to the other places on the property. It makes for a perfect getaway. The main building has a wide wrap-around porch good for relaxing, chatting with the owners or other guests, and making use of the wi-fi or the hammock. The view of the mountains and the woods is spectacular. Sitting on the porch, I could watch the wildlife make use of the salt lick while also checking out how the distant mountains changed in the light as the sun moves through the sky. Because the nearest town is about fifteen minutes away, there's a spectacular view of the night sky. The owners provide plenty of information about nearby hiking trails and activities. The area isn't as touristy as is found in the nearby National Park so if you want that, you'll have a drive to get to it. On the other hand, if you want to avoid the high-traffic tourist areas and want a quiet place as your starting point, Moose Ridge is a good choice.

I found The Lodge at Trout Creek on a vacation rental site and I am so thankful I did. Randy and…read moreJulie are amazing hosts, the lodge is beautiful, welcoming and comfortable and the grounds are gorgeous! We stay in the Snowshoe Suite. I say stay because we will stay in Snowshoe every time we go. We hope to take friends with us next time. I cannot express how much I love this place and I can't wait to go back!!

The Lodge at Trout Creek is a lovely property, and the owners are kind and attentive. Having just…read morereturned from a trip around Montana, however, there are a few things I wish I would have seen in the reviews before deciding to stay here. The guest rooms are spacious and spotless, but to my surprise, the mattresses are water beds. I would prefer a firmer bed and a feeling of stability. Breakfast was served at 9:00 and coffee was not available until 8:30. While a pot in the basement guest kitchen was available for us to make coffee, it would be nice to be able to enjoy a cup upon awakening. Also, before breakfast was done, the coffee pot was empty with no refills available. There were quite a few rules such as no eating or drinking in the room and a sign warning that sleeping on top of the blankets would add a $50 charge. I understand keeping a property clean, but this felt a bit too prescriptive. I was hoping to hike without having to drive; the view from the Lodge is gorgeous, but aside from a short path around a meadow, the only place to walk is along the dirt road. Keep in mind there are few dining options nearby. There is a well-appointed guest kitchen, so one could cook their own meals, but plan to drive up to 60 minutes to find a nice dinner. These few issues aside, The Lodge at Trout Creek provides a peaceful getaway.

I stayed here one night in July. It's fun to kayak in the lily pond on the property, where you get…read morea better view of the scenery since the tents are in the woods (and you might have a chance to see the local moose), and we had a short hike on logging roads past a slate quarry to a vista with lots of wildflowers. The main drawback at this time of year is the mosquitoes due to the standing water throughout the woods. They provide you with various repellents which helps, but I was still covered in mosquito bites when I left. The only noise besides the songbirds is a train which goes by occasionally. The accommodations are well supplied and well-kept, with a kitchen stocked with everything you need to cook. You can get some veggies from their garden for a dinner salad, including garlic spirals which are an interesting twist on chives. We cooked a simple meal over the open fire, which had a clever grill contraption to cook the food on. Water is pumped from a tank behind the kitchen. There is a clean and not smelly outhouse complete with hand sanitizer and old magazines. The breakfast was hearty - eggs (fresh from the chicken coop), bacon, pancakes, and of course homemade huckleberry jam. Even the apple juice they press and can themselves. The company was pleasant, with groups from two other tents. Since there were three of us, they sent up an extra tent for me next to my parents tent. In short, if you want the experience of camping near a farm, without the hassle of packing and pitching a tent, then this might be the place for you. I would give it 5 stars, except that I'm still scratching the mosquito bites.

This family really is welcoming and will gladly teach you about their garden, solar panels, and more. Also, they cook a mean breakfast (make sure to try their homemade apple cider). We saw moose and deer on the property and heard owls at night- very cool. Plus, Tim gave us great directions to explore the surrounding sights. You'll want to stay more than one night! This is an awesome spot for a couple's vacation or a family adventure.
