We ordered two drinks and two desserts, and our total came to about $60. The desserts were excellent -- we had the bundt cake and the carrot cake, and both were delicious. I think The Brown Fig makes a cute date spot, especially if you're in or near Monroe. The place has a cozy, classy vibe, and the decor is beautiful. The staff were really friendly -- they chatted with us and made us feel welcome. That said, I do think it's a bit too expensive for the area. Monroe is cute but still pretty underdeveloped, and the prices feel more like what you'd expect in a bigger city. I also wish the dress code matched the atmosphere -- it's a nice restaurant, but there were people wearing fanny packs and Crocs, which took away from the upscale feel a bit. It's not about being strict, but a little more consistency would really elevate the experience. read more

Went to celebrate a friend's birthday. The service was above excellent. Restaurant has great ambience and decor, it is smaller so do call for parties six and up as we did. A relatively cute space it's small, but very warm in terms of decor and atmosphere. Definitely a place for a small group of friends to meet up or maybe a very cute and quaint dinner. Service was on point . Portion sizes were fair for the price points.. but all the food came out hot and with good presentation. I would recommend this place. Wow I can't remember the last time I had a meal so bad. We waited for an hour to get in on a Wednesday. Then after we placed our order we waited for another hour to get our food. Mine arrived cold and dry, the pasta was uneatable. The server would not even make eye contact after our food arrived and before she was very attentive. I will NEVER go back. Horrible. What a great surprise in Monroe! Cozy, warm atmosphere, excellent cocktails and delicious Greek food! Not an extensive menu, but everything they serve is done very well! The chicken souvlaki is my favorite so far. The chicken is tender and moist, and I love the horiatiki served with it. Hubs prefers the gyro plate, mom loved her Moussaka, and dad ate every last bite of his shrimp souvlaki. Service and food quality will keep us coming back!! read more

The Brown Fig - Christmas cocktail - Mediterranean Near Me - Monroe, Georgia

Located in downtown Monroe The Brown Fig has several options for parking. Paid parking is right beside the building for $3 an hour or unpaid parking is across the street. Seeing as they do not take reservations I recommend coming early to avoid wait times we got there 10 minutes before they opened and made it to the third party in line by the time they opened there was a line wrapped around the building. The restaurant was adorable with Miami art deco vibes. There was plenty of seating with a bar and a piano used for live music. To start I grabbed a Hendricks Martini with blue cheese olives which was fantastic and the Spaganaki "opa" it was a flaming Greek cheese served with lemon and crostini bread. It was fresh and stringy making great cheese pulls with a fun flaming flair. Next I got the Hollace Farmer Breeze, which reminded me of a Mai Tai without the rum. For dinner we had the Spanakopita ( loved it so crispy and delicious), the Gyro Plate ( meat was so tender, well seasoned and came with a ton), and the Anything but Ordinary Flatbread ( very good but I would recommend as an appetizer). Service was on point and the live music was the perfect volume to carry on a conversation. In conclusion I think I will be back for desert with the girls. read more

This placr is beautiful. The environment gets a star and the waitress definitely gets one (as well as the hostess.) However the drinks were so so. The food wasn't good. Simple overpriced dishes and too bland. May be back for live music and to try another drink, but will not be eating here again. read more

Oh, my! Is it an an Atlanta quality dining experience OTP (outside the Perimeter), or an Athens boutique quality experience west of Athens? Hard to say, but it's not hard to say you have got to try this restaurant! We started with wine and a cocktail - an interesting wine list with many Mediterranean choices. Who knew Croatia and Greece were vintners? They also have Italian and Australian selections and others. But the cocktail experience really shines. I had a Figgy Sour with bourbon, fresh fig, and simple syrup with fresh lemon. I'll be back if not just for this cocktail! But the food is outstanding! We started with the hummus and tsatziki platter - fresh, warmed flatbread and all delicious! Wednesday night offers Chef's Specials so make reservations! Husband had this week's special which included fresh broiled scallops, asparagus and rice in a delicious sauce. I had the vegetarian choice - Zucchini broiled with feta, bread crumbs and arugula with balsamic fig glaze. I was super impressed. We will be back soon. Big tip! Make a reservation 24 hours in advance (look for The Brown Fig on Facebook and send them a PM) - choose a low top table if you prefer more intimate, cozy, (and often) upholstered seating. The food was prepared near perfectly. I just prefer a tad bit more seasoning. The raspberry white cheesecake hit another high note, though. The overall experience gives it a solid 5 stars. The brown fig is by far the best restaurant in Monroe.... It does have a major flaw. The lack of a consistent reservation system. We have tried to reserve a table in the past and were told they did not accept reservations. Tonight we went at opening time to be sure to get a table to find a long line of people trying to do the same. No problem - until we get close enough to hear the host asking if the person had reservations... what?? So we waited our turn so we could speak with him directly. He said they accept reservations "sometimes" on Facebook. That's no way to handle reservations. Either do them or don't. If you're doing them use a system like Resy or Open Table to handle it for you. Since there was quite a crowd trying to get in I'm sure this will fall on deaf ears. It's a shame because any business should see how consistency in all practices is important. read more

My understanding is that this restaurant does not take reservations. We arrived and were told there would be a 15-20 minute wait. After 20 minutes a group of 3 walked in. They told the receptionist they had a reservation for 6;30 and acknowledged that they were 15 minutes early. A few minutes later they were seated. We were then informed we would have to wait another 15-20 minutes. When I asked why the group of 3 was seated ahead of us I was informed that they had a reservation. I asked how one made a reservation since I thought they didn't take reservations. I was told by the receptionist that if you send the owner a Facebook message asking for a reservation and if she sees it you might get a reservation. What? I told the receptionist I was not happy with how they handled the situation. Eventually we were seated. Food was OK - nothing special. Portions seemed small to me. 3 of us had gyros and one had pork kebabs. My drink was empty more than it had anything in it. I was charged $4.50 for a soda water that had maybe 6 ounces of soda water and was refilled one time during our meal after I asked. I won't go back as I don't patronize restaurants that play favorites with customers. DO YOU TAKE RESERVATIONS OR NOT???? read more

We ordered the "greek meatballs" as an appetizer, and unfortunately it was served lukewarm; the metal dish was actually cool to touch upon receiving the entrée. I poked my finger into the meat to confirm it was not up to temp. I asked to have it reheated. Seems like a simple request, but what followed was most pathetic. I assume it was the "GM" who came to our table and informed me that the Chef said the "core temp was perfect" and what did I want her to do? I said the dish was at best cool to touch; the meat was barely lukewarm. Bordering on being argumentative, I said based on this interaction, I would just like to cancel the order. We left the restaurant without ordering a meal, walked across the street to a new, most impressive venue; one that turned out to be an absolute pleasurable dining experience. read more

I'm a big fan of Greek food so I was excited to try this place out. Finally, a Greek place in Monroe! Me and my friend went there this evening and it really wasn't what I was expecting. The restaurant was clean and busy, the hostess and waitresses were nice, and the atmosphere was good - but the food was a let down. My friend had the Gyro platter and I had the Pork Souvlaki. I was expecting more for the $20 a pop we paid. Getting two small skewers and one pita bread cut in half with a spoonful of Greek salad as a side, to me, was not worth the price. My friend has similar complaints. It didn't feel authentic and the portions were too small for what we paid. I'm fine with waiting 30 minutes for good food, and the food was good make no mistake, but to be served with a 10 dollar portion and expected to pay 20 is a bit much for me. Others do and probably will enjoy it, but as for me - I don't think I'll be going back anytime soon. read more

My wife and I love the Brown Fig. It's our favorite dinner spot in Monroe. We always get the burratta appetizer. It's amazing. Their twist on an old fashioned is great, as are every cocktail I've had there. The pastistio is as good as my ex brother in laws Greek mom used to make. The service is always good, and on the weekends they usually have live music. It's a really cool ambiance. The only thing negatives are it it's not easy to make a reservation (you have to contact them via facebook) and even with a reservation we've waited 30 min for a table. Worth it though. read more
