    Porknado and fries

This place was recommended by a friend so we thought we would try it out. We went on Wednesday night and the place was busy! I got the Bad Mother Clucker and my friend got the Porknado. Both of the sandwiches were delicious! They are pricey but you can get two meals out of one order. I also really enjoyed the fries. The bacon potato salad was just ok in my opinion.

This place just opened and it's exactly what DT Monroe needs! My husband ate there twice on Tuesday and we went back yesterday (and almost went again today). The owner did a great job with the set-up and decor. Service is great and the food, the food is AMAZING!

Wings with reaper garlic pepper dry rub.....will light you on fire!

Server stopped to take our drink order about 10 minutes later. Drinks arrived and we placed our very simple scoop and serve orders of pulled pork. Then we waited. And waited. Watched as others who ordered 30 minutes after us received their food. I was in the restaurant industry for 20 years, and I know bbq is 90% scoops and serve. Asked the server and she said it'll be out in 2 minutes. (Standard response). 15 minutes later my lady friend had had enough, as did I. Asked for the gm, who I assume wasn't available. Then our cold food arrived. And we were charged the full amount without any sort of apology. Almost 2 hours we waited for simple bbq. Here's my advice for the restaurant. When your kitchen or servers can't produce. Your managers need to "hold the door". Put the door on a 20-30 minute wait so you can catch up. Obviously there's a lack in management here, or at least there was on that day. They continued to seat folks and I kept asking myself (why?)

Old fashioned interior, and a simple yet extremely satisfying menu! The Turkey Plate was outstanding! I paired it with the sweet and spicy bbq sauces. Just the meat alone, was enough! Friendly, smiling, and serving up amazing food with a Southern twinkle in their eyes! Five stars...BOOM! There it is!

The food truck arrived and they set up quickly and efficiently. Yes, you could smell the wonderful grill going and the food did not disappoint. We had the bone-in chicken and pulled pork and it was tender and good! We had mac n chees, baked beans and brunswick stew, as our sides and they were also delish! Edee himself, was out at our event and he was kind, pleasant and efficient. (BTW, thank you for your service ~ Semper Fi!). His crew "D" and Tammy were pleasant and just wonderful to work with. We plan to use them again for another event. Thank you for the great food and great service!!!!

I hadn't been on Harbins Road in…read morequite some time, so it took me a little by surprise to see the once abandoned building that used to be a 1950's gas station open as a minimart. What surprised me even more was the trailer parked on the side selling BBQ! But the biggest surprise was experienced by my wife who knows how crazy picky I am about BBQ. "Seriously, you're going to turn the car around to try BBQ at a place you haven't yelped?" she asked. YUP!!!! The time was almost 7pm, which would have made this dark if we hadn't just went through a 'Spring Forward' weekend. The owner immediately apologized and informed me he was out of ribs, but allowed me to sample his pulled pork and chopped chicken. After looking over his menu board my eyes were drawn in by the words RIB TIPS. "I can't believe you have rib tips on your menu!" I exclaimed. "We sure do, where are you from?" he asked. "Chicago, where rib tips are a staple item on all true BBQ restaurant menus." Ironically one of his regular customers (who also happened to be from Chicago) walked up during this exchange and joined in with a little spirited banter of her own. We compared notes of our favorite Chicago BBQ restaurants and found we were in complete agreement. So why did I say I knew I was going to like this place even before I tasted the food? Well, before handing me a generous portion of sample meats, he insisted I try them WITHOUT the sauce. How did he know I prefer to taste BBQ that way? That is practically my BBQ pledge of honor: ----- I pledge allegiance, to the taste, of pork spare ribs everywhere! And to the smoky goodness, for which they stand, unsauced, with tenderness, and well-seasoned flavor for all! ----- Satisfied with the flavor, it was only then he revealed to me there were just a few tips remaining from earlier in the day. He removed them from hiding in a thermal container wrapped snuggly in Reynold's aluminum foil. I took them home along with homemade mac n' cheese and baked beans as my sides. I reheated them in the microwave for 2 minutes on 40% power. The rib tips and sides were so much better than I expected. So good in fact that I returned the following day for more of the same. I was also pleased this time he did have ribs available. One bite and his ribs had me feeling like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hevpHGPxRfU FINAL THOUGHTS I took a chance on a small business and scored a delightfully tasty surprise! The chopped chicken and pulled pork here are good, but the ribs and rib tips are my recommendation! The mac n' cheese is old school, kinda like my mom makes but with less seasoning. The baked beans have a cinnamon flavor that I've never experienced before, but really enjoyed. The owner assured me his meats are always ready by noon (Thursday through Sunday) and he remains until he sells out. If you are in the area and crave good BBQ, it would be worth your while to stop. I typically don't write reviews on roadside businesses because they tend to be fly by night establishments. Here one day and gone the next. But here's to hoping that the power of yelp will bring him enough business to stay put! 2016/62

Recently though one of my friends mentioned LR Burger and I knew I needed to check it out. It took me a year to get there but I am so glad I took the leap and decided to try it. The first time we went I "chickened" out and got the Buffalo mother clucker sandwich which was "wowza!" So stinking good I had dreams about it which made me extra sure their burgers would be amazing. I saw the SouthPaw a double patty with blue cheese sauce tomato, & lettuce on the menu the next time and it was like pure kismet I knew that was my burger. I ordered it and what do you know it was phenomenal I mean pure bliss to partake in! There is something for everyone my very picky kiddo loved the Oklahoma and couldn't stop talking about how delish it was! Every single time I am remotely in the Monroe area (which is every day twice a day) I have to talk myself out of going to get one. So good. 10/10. My top burger in all 50 states so far. We've eaten here enough times that it feels less like a restaurant visit and more like part of the tradition. Tonight I ordered the Blue Plate Special with hamburger steak smothered in grilled onions, collard greens, green beans, cornbread, and a big bowl of Brunswick stew. My unsweet tea stayed filled thanks to Rhonda, who was serving tables while also managing the restaurant. We learned that Hot Rod's started the evening with three servers scheduled. Business was slow, so one server was sent home. Naturally, that's when things picked up. Even so, Rhonda and the remaining server kept everything moving smoothly, and we never felt neglected during our visit. The Brunswick stew was excellent and gave us an unexpected opportunity for comparison. Earlier in the day we had Brunswick stew at Fresh Air Bar-B-Que. Hot Rod's version was chunkier, with larger pieces of meat, more noticeable vegetables, and a slight kick of spice. The Fresh Air version was smoother and more finely blended. Both were excellent, but they were definitely different styles. The hamburger steak was flavorful, the green beans and collard greens tasted like proper Southern vegetables, and when the Texas Pete hit the table there was only one thing to say: "My man, Texas Pete goes on the collards." Then came the surprise ending. We learned that peach cobbler was half price today. Unfortunately, they were out. Or so we thought. A fresh cobbler was still in the oven. For the next several minutes, the suspense reached maximum peach. Finally, the cobbler emerged from the kitchen and was served à la mode. The French gave it a classy name. The South perfected the application. Warm peaches, a buttery cobbler topping, and a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream that immediately melted with a purpose made for the perfect ending to the meal. It was absolutely worth the wait. Hot Rod's continues to be one of our favorite stops in Social Circle, and after another great meal, I have no doubt we'll be back again the next time we're in town.
