An after work go to place for me! Great beer selection and on Wednesdays you can take your pint glass home with you. I also love that this bar allows you to bring in your dogs! Almost every time I come here I end up sitting outside. The patio is great and has lots of space, so you aren't on top of the table next to you. I don't even want to think about how much money I have spent at the Bulldog in years past enjoying tasty beers and amazing food night after night after night, knowing my former go-to spot has slid way down the hill these past few years. i know during the Covid era, several beloved staff either left or were let go (knowing some of that story makes me sad/mad too), and I know the service industry has changed, but my last time in there was quite possibly my last time in there. I was ignored at the bar while trying to order. Legit, looked in the eye, and the bartender moved on to serve her friend who walked in about 5 minutes after me, and they continued their conversation a few minutes before getting my drink order. The beer tasted rather funky as well. I sucked it up rather than dealing with her at the bar again, but didn't finish my drink. I didn't order my own meal, but my friend gave me some of his. The menu is different and this sandwich tasted like it was pulled from the freezer at WalMart around the corner. It just wasn't what it used to be. Maybe if the owners lived in the same time zone, they would care about this establishment and chain a little more, but I guess they're making enough from it for now that it's not a concern to them. I do like the outdoor addition in the front, though it's not where I would choose to sit. The outdoor patio is always a good option. Everything is pretty clean most of the time. Maybe something will bring me back to try it again, but with so many great places added to BR over the past five years or so, Bulldog has taken a backseat in my life. read more

This has been my favorite spot so far on our trip to Baton Rouge. Coleman took GREAT care of us during our visit to the The Bulldog! He made me one of the best margs I've ever had! I've joined an informal club. It doesn't have many rules and I'm allowed to talk about it. We eat cheesesteaks. Preferably at a different location each week. Here are my musings concerning this particular cheesesteakery. Please remove this item from your menu. I've traveled far and wide, near and narrow and up and down the crowded boulevards of this fair city to taste the southern representations of the Philly Cheesesteak. We lighted upon the sunny patio of the Bulldog on a pleasant Friday around noon. Orders were placed, beers consumed and we eventually received our order. Unfortunately, the reward was not worth the wait. The general consensus of the table was that the sandwich reminded us of shredded cardboard atop a bundle of burnt balsa wood "bread". Au jus was provided to preserve your lips in salt and mildly dampen the crust that was provided to prop up the chewy, tasteless mass of barrel grade sliced meat product. I guess what I'm saying is...this is not a good sandwich and you should probably stop serving it. So much beer. This was my first visit, and will not be my last. It's our New after work link up. There were at least 50 beer on tap. A huge cooler of bottle beers. They liquor variety was extensive. I am not a big drinker, so my review will be about the food. O orders a few apps for the table chicken tenders, nachos and egg rolls. All were fantastic. The egg rolls were the best. they are served with a raspberry chipotle sauce (I think) what ever that sauce was, it was DE-LISHUS!!!! Chicken tenders were standard. The nachos were good, but next time I probably stick to the chips and salsa. They got cold and hard fast. The portion is so big, that it gets cold before you can get thru 1/2 of it. It was nice to find a nice place to stop in, for an after work drink. The bartenders were nice. The cook was nice and the guests in the bar were very friendly. There is an area with sofas and "recliner" chairs. (I don't trust public sofas) but the area looked comfy and cozy. I love this place. They have many beer selections. The staff is super friendly. You can bring your dogs. The outdoor area is great as well as the food. On the downside they don't get too many original craft beers. Also, it's pretty dark inside & can get loud. The Bulldog is my kind of bar! It's such a cool place that they haven't even let Covid-19 slow 'em down - they remain open for both indoor and outdoor seating! I went here twice and the first time, I had a very sexist and degrading conversation between a bartender and two (drunk) disrespectful men sitting at the bar.. That was enough evidence already that I did not like the place, but, I gave it another shot and went back. Second time, I went for a quick beer and was not welcomed or paid much attention to and got the impression that the bartender didn't care about my experience and seemed to not want to be there himself so I just got up and left. We weren't happy here. We came for Happy Hour but they don't actually observe those Happy Hour prices here. That's a shame since we have enjoyed the NOLA locations for years. Our server, Celeste, was not happy that I disagreed when she incorrectly rang our order. She didn't have the time or patience to discuss it with me. She blamed it on the computer. She did however have time to complain to other employees (within earshot) about our table disputing the bill over a total of .50 cents. That's right 50 cents. It was her shallow attempt to embarrass me in front of my date. She could have made it right but she sent Josh over and he was patient and listened to us. Thankfully he was a level minded employee to handle the transaction however it was not corrected because prices can't be changed in the computer even when pricing is wrong. The current beer menu (printed 2 days prior) listed Abita at $5.25 as well as the Abita sign/ad on the wall. The happy hour price reduction never occurred. The crawfish banditos were overcooked on the outside and not full of tasty crawfish, onions, green peppers etc that I remember in the past from Bulldog locations. I have visited Jackson, MS., Magazine St and Canal Blvd. These banditos were mostly melted cheese inside. Next time we will go to Phil's or Solera next door. read more

To get one's beer on in Baton Rouge, one must do so here at The Bulldog on Perkins. Aside from being one of the more popular bars in the city, this sister location of the original New Orleans institution has the kind of variety that would get any beer lover's attention. Regulars of the NOLA location should notice one thing immediately: BR's version is far nicer. It's not just that its newer, it's got its own standalone space, a prettier rendition of the beer tap fountain, ample parking, and a more modern interior. The best part? They haven't managed to compromise their love of beer and have even added a heartier selection of food. Instead of all of the bougie or less than stellar nightlife spots throughout BR, there is always a mix of young and old professionals here either getting rowdy over an LSU / Saints game or just sitting at a table and catching up over a drink. I still have yet to try what I'm told is one of the best burger spots in town, which I'll make sure to do my next time in town. Service is a tad spotty at times, but still amiable for the most part. Prices feel a little high for the area, but the selection (besides Chimes) is practically unparalleled. One notable thing I haven't seen in most places? They're dog friendly. I really like that they switch to music during the commercials then turn the sound back to the game when it comes back on. The prices were great, we got two appetizers and a few drinks for less than $50. The only reason it didn't get five stars is that I wouldn't recommend the food.
