This is a great place to get food and a drink in BR. I am not in Baton Rouge at night as much as I am during the day. Most of the spots I frequent are lunch spots. A few weeks ago I was in town for a hockey game and in need of some refreshments pre-game. This was the perfect spot. It was a little rainy so a large portion of the place was unusable. In better weather the courtyard would've been a nice place to sit. There are many non courtyard tables and that's where we found ourselves. Calling yourself a beer garden and not having an extensive list would be foolish. Foolish they aren't here. Their list is extensive. So extensive and frequently changing that it's found via QR code on the table. The food menu is typical bar fare but taste anything but typical. The giant pretzel was delicious and paired well with the beers. Cheese fries are always welcome when having a drink and their version was equally great. Service was friendly and prompt. This is a great place if you love different types of beer! There are a wide array to choose from. We happed to be in town on a Wednesday evening and enjoyed $8 burger night. You can't beat it! A thick juicy burger cooked to perfection with the best crispy fries we've had in Louisiana. We sat at the bar. There was a slight glitch with one of our burgers in that they forgot the cheese and pickles but once we brought it to the server's attention it was corrected immediately. We would give our experience 5 stars except for that mishap and that we had to ask for napkins and cutlery. If there wasn't a clear example of how much this stretch along Government has changed over the years, just take a look at Mid City Beer Garden. The Mid City neighborhood has erupted a destination of quality restaurants and bars, which MCBG ranking among the largest and most popular drinking spots in the city. The bar has been well-designed, offering a contemporary feel with plenty of greenery, numerous screens, and seating options throughout. I'm not a fan of the bathrooms with the industrial sinks that could double as urinals but that's neither here nor there. The open roof provides a lot of lighting during the daytime, but can closed (#1) for bad weather. There is no beer hall without beer, and MCGB has plenty of it. The line of taps is impressive and they have lots canned beer options as well that range from IPA to sours. The right bartender can make a mean cocktail and their selection of signature cocktails range from $10-14. I've enjoyed the empress 75 ($14) and satsuma margarita ($13) the most, but there's a lot more to choose from. I would also recommend any of their frozen cocktails ($12-18 depending on size) for hot weather months. The frosé is classic, while sweet tooths will love the frozen king cake and the lemon ice box pie daiquiri. Every first Thursdays of the month will features a lineup of $8 martinis. While I've never look at this as a food destination, there's a lot here. It's a known fact that the former chef at the legendary Chelsea's (#2) has influenced the menu a bit, which is why their grilled cheese & soup ($13) remain one of their most popular items. Their BBQ pork sandwich ($16) and classic burger ($14) are safe options for classic bar fare lovers, while their shrimp po'boy ($17) is my preferred sandwich. There's also some sort of an addicting quality with their french fries. Their bar bites include typical things like chips, egg rolls, and spinach dip, but I would recommend their boudin balls ($12) and smoked tuna dip for a tastier option. Their soups have been popular with folks, especially the tomato basil with focaccia and the gumbo. They also have nightly food specials such as $1.50 Taco Tuesday and a $8 burger + fries night on Wednesdays. The weekend brunch is their most popular option to date and they've done well with solid options and fairly good presentation. Some folks are all about the avocado toast ($13) and breakfast burritos ($13), I'm somewhat lukewarm to both. I would prefer their loaded hash browns (#3 - $13), hangover biscuit ($15), and their boudin benedict ($16). The latter dish might be one of the priciest, but it's easily the most savory thing on the menu. More things to consider: :: The door is a checking point at all times. Always bring a government ID. :: No kids are allowed. Sorry parents. :: Beware of LSU or major sports evenings. It's almost a guarantee the place will be packed. Ventilation can be nan issue if that's the case. :: Parking lot is directly behind the business but there is also a gravel lot along Steele Blvd that can accommodate a lot of vehicles MCBG is ultimately a place of gathering. Mid City Eating Mid city Beer Garden is a great place to visit when in BR! They have an open patio concept in the middle but exudes chill ambiance. We had about a 10 minute wait to be seated. Our apps came out quickly! But there was probably a good hour before we got two wraps and cheese fries so that was slightly disappointing. We started out with the southwest eggrolls and boudin balls. Highly recommend the eggrolls! Delicious! The boudin balls were good but slightly overcooked. Each wrap came served with fries - what would have elevated the dish slightly if the fries were fried in duck fat and served with an aioli sauce. The drinks were great and while we didn't try any of the craft beer, this place is always outstanding on friendliness of the staff, cleanliness of the restaurant, food tastes good. Someone at my table ordered spinach and artichoke dip and it came out cold, not warm, cold. My French toast sticks were hard like, crunchy. My server took them off after noticing they were so hard I didn't even attempt to eat. I would like to try again since the service and ambiance were great. Unfortunately, we had an extremely abysmal experience here this afternoon, January 11th, 2026. We had a table of six and ordered the French toast sticks, spinach dip, six entrees, and at least one drink per person. The issues started with the $10 French toast, which came as three very small sticks on a plate that was much too big for the amount of food and made it look sad. The spinach dip was also a very small portion, barely able to be shared, about half a scoop each between six people. It was in the mid-50s outside and the heaters were not turned on. I saw several people shivering in their seats. This seems like something that could have been easily solved by staff paying attention. When it came time to order drinks, one of us asked the server how the Bloody Mary was. The server, a male with long brown hair and glasses, responded, "I hate Bloody Marys, but people order them." It is rude and insulting to tell a guest you hate something they are ordering, and it is also not helpful to someone who obviously does like Bloody Marys. He also did not bring sugar and creamer with the coffee until the coffee was already gone or cold and never offered coffee refills. We did have stirrers wrapped in a napkin! Which he brought and shoved into one our faces. Then he was told to put them on the table and layed them down and touched them all with his open palm down. We still didn't have the cream and sugar! The cream and simple syrup, not sugar, which was strange, came in shot glasses. When poured, it dripped down the side of the shot glass and covered the table and our phones in sticky residue. Maybe invest in some stainless steel bell creamers. They're between $1-$2 a piece and are literally made for this purpose. The server then went on to tell us he was operating on two brain cells. I can excuse a couple of hiccups, but this was far beyond that. We ordered a champagne with the appetizers, and it still had not arrived by the time four of the six entrees came out. At that point, we had been looking for our server for at least 20 minutes. One of us had to go to the bartender to ask for the champagne again. The bartender brought it to us despite not having a ticket for it because the server never ordered it. When the food finally came out, it was brought by two people who did not know who had ordered which dish. Do they not use seat numbers, or is the staff not trained to utilize them? They only brought four of the six entrees, set them down, and left before we could ask for napkins, condiments, or anything else. There was no communication about where the other two dishes were or when they would come out. We waited another 30 minutes for our server. When we finally saw him again, he stood petting a dog at a table behind us for over 10 minutes and did not check on us at all. We eventually had to interrupt his gossip to ask for assistance. I explained that we had waited for a champagne we had to retrieve ourselves from the bartender, that two dishes never arrived with no explanation, and that we needed napkins and condiments. We never even got to ask for condiments because he immediately ran to the back and stayed there for another 15 minutes. At this point, I was paying close attention and had absolutely no patience left for the lack of service. I saw the server talking to the bartender, walked over, and asked him to cancel the remaining two dishes and bring the checks. He made a face, clearly seemed annoyed, and said "ok" in a sarcastic tone. The manager came over and said he was sorry and that the kitchen "messed up the poached egg water," which, honestly, was laughable. He said they would not be auto-gratuating us. It is wild that parties of six are automatically charged gratuity in the first place, but thanks, I guess. His attitude was not great either, and he seemed equally annoyed. It still took another 30 minutes to get the checks and get us out of there. The experience was absolutely horrendous, and the entire staff seems to need serious training. Safe to say we won't be visiting again any time soon. It's sad because it's a great building but the staff can't seem to execute. It wasn't even busy, there were a few tables but nothing overwhelming. read more

One of my favorites places to go in Baton Rouge! The ambiance is amazing... you feel like you are in an actual garden. The place is very open but has some parts inside. I love the fireplaces and tvs throughout! I normally always get beer when I come here, but this time it was freezing so I decided on the spiked hot Apple Cider. You can put any liquor in it, but I went with the waitresses recommendation of rum. It was so good! I had never had spiked apple cider, and I really enjoyed it! And yes, it was actually hot so it kept me warm throughout the night. The food here is also always amazing. My favorite is the soft pretzel with cheese and mustard for dipping sauce. The pretzel is also very warm and the dipping sauces go great with it. I could eat this all day long. The service is always top notch! We were just going to hit the Mid City Beer Garden for a quick stop, but eneded up there half the night because of the good company and the service was so good. The wide selection of beers is the main draw, but the roomy tables and server cameradie was stand out. Bailey was our main server and probably the reason we ended up staying longer by keeping us checked in on and making some great selection suggestions! A friend and I decided to give this place a try out for Brunch. When we arrived we had the option to either sit inside or outside, no wait time. The atmosphere was amazing had a very chill and relaxing vibe to it. I had the French toast for my appetizer and my only complaint with that is the toast was very doughy and wet like they were not cooked all the way. This was my first visit to Mid-City Beer Garden, along with two others, and unfortunately it was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. Our server, Sophia T., came to the table without menus or even a hello. When I asked for them, she returned with only two instead of three and tossed them onto the table. My parents and I went to Beer Garden for Sunday brunch and it was quite busy. Perfect day though to go because the weather was nice. Our waitress, Savannah, was very friendly and helpful. My Dad wasn't sure what kind of beer to get and she made a good recommendation that he enjoyed. We ordered chips and the dip trio as an app, and I have to say I was disappointed in the chips and my folks felt so too. They did not taste fresh, more like they had been sitting for awhile. The dips were good though. I had the beet salad with grilled chicken and it was delicious! I would highly recommend it and for me it was a big enough portion to have leftovers. We were visiting BR and wanted to check out a brewery, but it was Sunday evening and they were closed. Then found Mid City Beer Garden on Yelp and decided to go and are so glad we did. The place is nice! A really nice enclosed patio and a very cool interior bar area. A wall full of beer taps, about 40 something of them, so we still got try a local craft beer or two. For food we shared the spinach artichoke dip. It was nice and creamy with just enough hot sauce mixed in. The tortilla chips weren't the best, but they appeared to be house made and it was the end of the day. We then finished the evening with a slice of the Easter bread pudding, very thick, very sweet, and best of all no raisins! My wife also enjoyed a chocolate martini for dessert. read more

I've been here a few times now, and I'm impressed. I remember this becoming the new, hot spot when it opened, so I'm happy I've finally joined the club and visited.
