I was so impressed with this place. The puzzles were excellent, made even better by keeping everything on-brand with the post-apocalyptic storyline. The actors were also so fun, making the whole thing feel immersive. I tried to make the guy who came in with us break character several times, like a Buckingham Palace guard. He passed the test. But the best aspect was how they adjusted on the fly to accommodate my ten year old. This was a real daddy/daughter outing, for my kid who loves puzzles and escape rooms. Clearly, part of the "Bunker" experience are the jump scares and the overall terrorizing atmosphere. The team was so happy to bring down the fright levels to the right amounts. Honestly, my kid thinks The Goonies is too scary to watch, just to give you some context. So none of the scariness took away from the puzzle solving. Highly recommend to anyone, but in particular to any parent of a precocious "tween" who wants to feel like they're doing something "adult." read more

First escape room experience - luckily I was with a group who's been before. The experience was truly immersive. There's no indoor waiting area, so when our group arrived on time, we waited outside on the sidewalk for a few minutes for the host to let us in. Once inside, you take a flight of stairs down, where each one of us had to sign a electronic waiver; super easy. Then head head into a "waiting room" or sorts - the situation is printed on this vinyl poster on the wall, next to this huge vault door. Along the back wall/corner of the room is a series of lockers for your belongings. This is where the rules are explained to our group. We were told this underground area used to be an actual bank vault (hence the vault doors). It was nice and dark; kept really well with the theme. Since we did "Chapter II" the mission was to retrieve 3 items and to make your way out of the room, obviously. There was a lot of de-coding to open locked boxes/doors. Despite the 17% passing rate (as of 4/23/2017) - we managed to set the best record to-date; 38 minutes! I credit my team mostly. read more

We had a group of 8 people, some of us experienced with escape rooms, others this was their first escape room ever. Everyone had a great experience here. The actors were really good and did not break character. There were a couple of jump scares but it wasn't anything too frightening. We did Chapter 1 and the puzzles ranged from somewhat easy to somewhat difficult, which overall made this escape room a fairly challenging one to complete. It definitely helped to have a bit of "survival skills" knowledge. The end of the escape room left us wanting more as we were expecting another room or more puzzles. Once we left the building we were already talking about when we could possibly get together to do Chapter 2. However given the 50 minute time slot, you have more than enough time for the difficulty, size of room, and amount of puzzles that they have. We finished with just over 8 minutes to spare. We will come back for Chapter 2 and hopefully keep it going for the next escape rooms this place has planned. read more

I came here with my cousins recently and it was super fun, we had 6 people! We showed up a few minutes late because we couldn't find parking and the staff was extremely accommodating. We did chapter 1 and there's actually an option to include a jump scare but my little cousin was super scared so we told them we didn't want it lol. I thought the puzzles were fair, there weren't as many steps compared to other escape rooms I've been to but each step was much harder to figure out. This was my first time doing an escape bunker. I came for a friend's bday and our group of 8 had a private session to ourselves. I was really impressed with the production value of the experience. The bunker experience is set in a post apocalyptic world. Walking down the staircase into the bunker sent chills down my spine--it felt pretty real! Your group has 60 minutes to break out of the bunker. There is a live actor inside the bunker with you to help guide you (and also probably make sure no one gets hurt). I was really impressed with his ability to not break character the entire time, as my group was hopelessly pathetic. There are no cell phones or personal belongings allowed in the bunker but they do provide lockers. I'd recommend using the restroom before entering the bunker, as you cannot leave the bunker until you've escaped or failed after the hour is up. This is a really fun experience for family and friends. I think it's best to go with a large group (max 10) and have the session to yourselves rather that get thrown in with strangers under high stress. There are plenty of public parking lots in Old Town Pasadena--arrive with time to spare to secure a spot, as they fill up fast. read more

I've been to several other escape rooms before and had a good time. So when we headed down to The Bunker Experience yesterday, I knew it'd probably be fun. But, what I wasn't expecting was how immersive the experience ended up being, with the realistic, movie-like set and the excellent live actors. The escape rooms I'd been to before had functional but not super believable sets -- definitely not on the level of a film production. This one was expertly done. We did Chapter One, and it was more challenging than I thought it'd be for the "beginner-friendly" room. Really pushed our group of six to work together and constantly reevaluate our approach and look for additional clues. While the puzzles were challenging and engaging, I'd say the big difference maker, again, was how immersive the set was. Literally wow-inducing at several points. The staff was great. The actor who was in the room with us was excellent, stayed in character till the end, and helped manage our pace well, only really giving clues when desperately needed, and never outright telling us what to do. Our entire group was pumped up after escaping the room with a couple minutes to spare, and we're already trying to see when we can all do Chapter Two together. I had heard about The Bunker while doing research on escape rooms in the area, and I had been interested in it for a while ... but I just hadn't done it yet. On this past Friday, for an early birthday outing, my two friends and I decided to sign up and play. I went in totally blind, no clue of what to expect, and I wound up having an absolute blast. The theming was on point, the puzzles were thought provoking and challenging, the live actor element was a nice touch, and the uncertainty of what's to come always kept us on our toes. A group of 3 of us did chapter 1 recently. 2 of us are escape room fanatics and have done around 10. The third has never done one. The atmosphere itself was really cool and the addition of a live actor added to the atmosphere but I personally don't like live actors in the room. The reason for 4 stars and it probably would be 3.5 if there were a choice is because we felt it was very low tech and there's one puzzle in particular where you would specifically need to have knowledge of this certain skill in order to solve it. In our opinion, unless you work in certain fields or randomly learned it, you won't have this knowledge. The three of us did not have knowledge of this and would have never finished it had the actor not taken us through it. We all agreed that part was not fair at all. It was still fun but we won't be returning for the other parts. read more

Not a huge fan of this escape room. My main issue was that the puzzles were so linear- in order to move on you need to solve puzzles in a set order. This usually wouldn't be a huge problem, but since they allow so many players in the room, you're forced to do everything together instead of dividing to solve things. I was with a group of 3 other friends, but 2 other groups were with us- 9 people total. 9 people for each problem really sucks- I don't think I ended up doing anything useful since we were stuck with a group that loved to take charge of everything and do it all themselves. Sucks considering we paid $100+ to basically watch other people solve the room. I felt bad for the other couple that was with us too since they were pushed aside all the time by the other group who were basically grabbing all the items for themselves to solve. Maybe we just got unlucky with the people we got placed with, but like I said, pretty disappointing considering the number of people allowed in is so high where you are all crammed in. I wouldn't recommend unless you can guarantee you're the only group in the room. Even with that being said- I would still recommend other escape rooms that don't work so linearly Staff was friendly and helpful, so it's not their fault. read more

The best part of going to the bunker was my children waiting outside for us to be let in and one of them farted, they both blamed each other, and then some men who were nearby on a date laughed very loud. But in all seriousness that did happen, but the bunker was a very good experience it's a very large room to have an escape room in - and they have life actors which other rooms do not have which is very interesting. Unexpected, challenging, entertaining, engaging, and petrifying!! I went with my team at work and it was the best team-building activity I think we've ever done. EVER. Cut to the chase, we solved the puzzle with more than 5 minutes to spare, but realized we needed the particular skills and strengths of each team member to solve the various puzzles that the game encompassed. There were a couple of scary moments, courtesy of the staff/ actors, that added to the fun and challenge. This is an experience that we will most definitely remember and be talking about for quite some time. It was awesome to keep going, plus we got to use the extra time from the first Chapter to solve the second Chapter. Scares were awesome, challenges were difficult but not hard just to be hard (like some other rooms I have been to). It was very well done, and my sister (who has done 10+ rooms) said it was her favorite! I wish there was a way to forget rooms, just so we could do this one again!!!! I didn't know what to expect since the tickets had been purchased for the group beforehand but boy did we all have a blast. I have done 2 other escape games in LA but The Bunker Experience takes a spin on your traditional escape room. We were transported into a post apocalyptic world the minute we walked in the door. The set design is awesome. This experience is very story driven which I really appreciated, all employees are in character and costumes. There's a cool suspense filled pre show in the beginning. The puzzles in the room fit their post apocalyptic theme nicely. We were on our last puzzle when time ran out, darn it!!! It's nice there are varieties of escape rooms out there. We did the first chapter as a family and had a great time! Our daughter was a tween at the time, and usually things don't get the "Cool"/thumbs up approval from her, but when we suggested doing the Bunker Experience as a birthday party with a few of her closest friends, she thought it was a great idea! About six months later, we returned with a mix of 12 and 13 years olds, and the staff was so communicative and accommodating and paced the second chapter well for them! Also, our daughter had accidentally dropped/lost her bangle. The staff reached out to us the next day, asking if it belonged to our party, which it did. This setting for the theme of the room was the best part of the game. The rooms are mostly linear, which is fine. The we were told multiple times we already used an item and we shouldn't go back, but then there are instances where you have to go back 3 times to actually reuse am item. I have done over 300 rooms and the "puzzles" seemed far fetched. The solution to the safe in chapter 1 is by far the worst solution in all three rooms. Won't be returning for their new 4th chapter when I return. read more

What a great time and experience, no pun intended! I highly recommend this room to any and all escape room fans or newbies alike! My wife wanted to celebrate her birthday so we decided to do our first escape room in Pasadena. We had a group of 7, made the reservation online (very easy) for Saturday night at 9pm. We showed up at 8:45pm and waited outside for about five minutes. The venue is right next to a large parking structure and there is a sign out front with directions to wait. About five minutes later, we were greeted at the door. There was quick roster check and then we each signed a very quick electronic waiver form. We decided to pick Chapter 2 because we didn't really want a maze and actors, only puzzles. We walked downstairs, put all of our stuff in lockers, were reassured that all possessions were safe, given a quick background of the story, given the instructions of what we needed to do to complete the mission and we were off to start the game! No spoilers here from me about the game itself but a tip: make sure you look at everything! When you get stuck, somebody will help as much as possible without giving you the actual answer. The game itself was very, very, very fun! The room itself was very realistic, the design of the room was outstanding and the atmosphere was great! It was not claustrophobic at all even with a group of 7. It's not hot in there or cold. The temperature was perfect. There wasn't any weird smell either. We passed it with about five minutes left and the game only has a 20% passing rate. After the game, you take a picture with an Instagram frame for no additional charge, grab your stuff from the lockers and are walked out. Rest assured we all patted our shoulders the rest of the evening drinking at a nearby bar for passing out first time around! Overall I HIGHLY recommend the Bunker Experience to anybody! It's a great experience with a great room and atmosphere. The service was impeccable and professional from all actors! The reservation process was easy, the welcoming was perfect...I cannot go on with how great everything was! My only regret is that I didn't catch the names of the person up front and the actor inside to include them in this review for a job well done! You should be proud of yourselves as this was amazing. This was the 2nd immersive Escape Room I've done! Entrance: There isn't a lobby but instead someone will be waiting for you at the doorway at the time you booked. What was also cool, was if you wanted to add another person to your group, you can add and pay at the door. They take exact cash or you can pay with a credit card. Like most Escape Rooms your party will sign a wavier. There is also lockers for your belongings because you will not be allowed to take anything inside. The Experience: This was a fun one! Pretty cool location. We did Chapter 1 and they did a good job with decorating the environment to really help you feel immersed in the story. Actors were great and added a nice touch to the whole experience! As for puzzles, they were pretty decent though some were tricksters, but we eventually figured them out. I don't want to give anything more away but overall great experience! The end was awesome! Recommendations: I feel like I agree with some reviewers that 10 people in the room might be too much. We were lucky that we didn't have any strangers added to our party. I think it would have totally changed the experience but we got lucky. I think if there were more people it might feel too crowded (too many people on clues or not enough to go around) and take away from the story and experience. I think our group of 6 was perfect but I don't think I'd go higher than 8. Maybe lowering the amount of people allowed would help with that. Ok, so this is just a suggestion since I've done a few Escape Rooms that have this...a keepsake at the end. I've done a few where they actually give your entire party a photo you take at the end with options of emailing. I really love this because it makes the experience more memorable for the group. I know this is added cost but maybe it's only for parties who succeed? Or at least give away one photo? Some people might not want anything so this could also just be optional. This was our first escape type room and boy did I feel like an idiot. I wished there was more direction on how this worked but nevertheless it was an awesome experience. Cold Saturday Night in Pasadena, we make our way to a lonely entrance that leads to the lower basement which leads to what is called The Bunker Experience.... Our first visit to such place and we were teamed with a couple of "experienced couples"... Normally, I would be one to fight to take the lead role. In this case, I was the one that needed much leading. The puzzles to solve to escape were challenging enough to raise the anxiety of what terror may come upon us if it wasn't accomplished before the time limit. It certainly had the same adrenaline build up waiting for the experience to begin as entering into the unknown... Great elements, setting, and acting... I love this place! I've been to other escape rooms before, but this one is my favorite. I like how it has time slots with a maximum capacity of 10 people, so if you are a small party, you will be joining strangers. This is a good option when you can't find many friends to go with you and want the choice of having more people to help you solve the puzzles. I only had a party of two so I joined a slot with 4 people already in it and it was a great experience and we survived together! When you first go in, you sign a liability waiver on a tablet, then once everyone is there we are to put our belongings in the lockers provided there, then we enter the doors and the escape begins! The atmosphere is very intense because of the plot of the story but it's so rewarding once you beat it. If you enjoy solving problems under pressure, then this is the place for you. I will be returning for Chapter 2! It is located right next to a parking structure, so parking is very convenient here. read more

We had two people in our group that were excellent team players. The max of people per group is 10 so that might've changed the experience somewhat. This was probably the best escape room experience I've had. I've been to 5 different companies and this was by far the most engaging! It's not your typical room with some decorations and puzzles, it truly feels like you're in an underground bunker trying to escape what's coming after you. We had 4 people and completed the Chapter 1 experience. The puzzles were creative and challenging. The atmosphere, story, live actors, and overall experience was incredible. We could feel the pressure of trying to escape and the fear of losing. This made the puzzles more difficult and definitely had our hearts racing. Much more of a theatrical experience than an escape room. The puzzles aren't very traditional and there are definite leaps in logic to the solutions that weren't too far fetched but really didn't adhere too any sense of order. More searching in this room than puzzles. The environments were very cool and gave the sense of an underground bunker. Apocalyptic and dire. It's an old bank building so they definitely used the vault doors to great effect. There is definitely a scare element to this with actors. Like previous reviews mentioned, there is no lobby to this room and you will be waiting outside until your game starts. You're led down the stairs and that is where the orientation happens. If there is a criticism, then I wished there were more puzzles and more order than I saw to the puzzles. read more
