I just wanted to try the burger special to check out how good these royal burgers are. Cheeseburger fries and soda was 11.50, and I agree with the person who says they should charge for cards. The burger itself is a thin half pound patty. Thick cut fries are nice and crispy. I don't know why they say South central is a food desert. Not a fan of any of the other classic diner type food offered outside of that, maybe that colossal burger. Might try the chili fries is it, can't go wrong with those. Their breakfast burritos allegedly are bomb but you have to be dumb to screw those up. Dinner looks better, I might come back for that. Nice service. No bathrooms for obvious reasons. Honest authentic dive, as typical a bit rundown and worn but then again so am I. Extensive menu includes breakfast, burritos, burgers, hot dogs, and a selection of dinner plates. There are a number of specials on posters outside but they're not priced. Because I apparently lack imagination, had a double burger. There is no mention of cooking method (other than on the giant pole sign out front) so for some reason I was not anticipating it, but upon unwrapping the burger I was hit with an awesome aroma of char - mouth-watering indeed. Large thin patties must be 1/2 lb total on here, nice looking tomatoes and shredded lettuce was crisp and green. Didn't have fries so can't comment on them but the burger was simple and delicious. In the real world of 2025 $14 with tax for a 1/2 lb burger and large pop isn't bad. They will charge you $.99 if you use a credit card but frankly I applaud this, I think customers should be aware that the CCs are taking 3% of the the entire economy right off the top. read more

It looks like a hole in the wall spot and I was leery of even trying the food but, I read the reviews and here we are! I got the pancake breakfast with eggs scrambled with cheese, bacon and sausage (which I gave to my dogs) and a side of grits. I even tried the beef taquitos plate. The employees are very nice and charming. I liked my interactions with them. This place has a lot of business. Everything was delicious and made fresh to order. It is a very filling meal and my total was only 29 dollars for two pancake breakfast, side of grits and the taquito plate. I will try other menu items at a later date. I have plenty of time. This place was super disappointing, the dining area was not well maintained, seems like they clean it don't get me wrong, but the years of abuse show in the marks on the walls, and tore down seats and tables. The staff was nice, they took my order with no issue. The food was below average. I have been wanting to try this place out so I did so on Thursday. I went there around 11:00 a.m. and ordered two tacos. This was the first food I had for the day. When I got home, it looked very generous. It didn't taste like any taco I've ever eaten but I haven't tried everyone's taco. I got halfway through the first taco and had to stop. I ended up throwing one and a half tacos away. About 2 hours later I had nausea and loose bowels. I continued to be sick and I ran a fever a few hours later. Unfortunately I was sick for 48 hours. I couldn't eat anything for 2 days. I knew that this was what caused my problem. Maybe it was just bad luck on my part but as the old saying goes once bit, twice it shy. It's 72 hours now and I still haven't been able to eat. I had a fever and nausea up till now. So far I've had tea and water. No solid food. Here's a place you'll want to skip when you're in south LA. The stench of grease cannot be removed! I have never before experienced their style of taco--first, the bag was dripping grease, and the individual tacos were wrapped in aluminum foil (soaking with grease), the shells were gross and (guess what) greasy, meat was OK, then a mountain of lettuce (I'm talking about too much lettuce for one person to eat in one sitting came with each taco), lots of mushy tomatoes, and some terrible Velveeta cheese mixed in with that mess. If I hadn't already washed my hands three times I would dig into the bag and post a picture of that mess. Just believe me, keep on walking if you're in this part of the city.
