Came here to grub, chill, and hang (if I was lucky) with a true LA legend and CSA (Customer Service All Star to his community), Oki Dog chef, owner, and gentleman....Yoshi-pictured. Japanese American history in Los Angeles is fascinating, and so much more of it needs to be told. Well, some of that great history comes through the tireless and hard-working efforts of Yoshi and the other two gentlemen featured in the picture attached to this review. This is home to some to some of the most unique, and tasty chili in L.A. I've been eating it since I was a freshman in the high school, but damn near a decade or so slip by in between that time. Fun fact #1 Okie dog is briefly featured in the movie White Men Can't Jump. Fun fact #2 there is a picture of some cool rapper type guy on the outer window of Okie Dog that can be seen ever so briefly in the movie. That young man is......well......ME! Lol (this was sheer luck in coincidence-and no I never saw a dime). LOL Let's go over the food....I played it safe and didn't go with the Oki Dog itself, but rather a double cheeseburger with extra chili on the side. My hands were silly sloppy with chili all over the place after even a few bites! Suffice to say everything on this menu is delicious, and regardless of what I order I'm sure to add chili to everything. To conclude, my experience was about to wind down when I noticed the legend himself still in that doggone kitchen! It was none other than Yoshi himself, a man who has given countless hours, smiles, and great energy to a predominantly working class neighborhood in Los Angeles for roughly half a century! Kudos indeed to this establishment, t's owner Yoshi, and props to the other founders for their precious culinary contributions to the city of LA. read more

Nice corner spot in la. I got a chicken taco and a pastrami taco. The pastrami was soo good, I said finally someone knows how to get those flavors in the meat. I did not like the lettuce option because it was the mixed iceberg and cabbage I think. I had to take out some of the lettuce because it took over the whole taco. Finally decided to swing in for lunch, and this place gives similar vibes to The Hat. Had to get that Oki Dog, and when I see teriyaki on a menu I for sure gotta try that too. The Oki Dog is a double barreled chili cheese burrito. This combo instantly will take you back to the early 90s. Its huge, and a bit heavy, but if you need something to get u thru the day then this will do it. The teriyaki was just alright. The chicken was solid, but tasted a bit freezer burnt, and the beef was moreso philly cheesesteak type beef than a proper thin sliced or chopped beef when it comes to beef teriyaki. I'm a West LA native, Hauser Blvd to be exact, and as a kid I ate here at their OG Pico Blvd. & SYCamore St. Always friendly folks and served the community for several generations with good energy and respect. I'm glad they didn't relocate too far. I wish the parking situation was better over there and I wish they started accepting debit cards, even if they had to charge a fee. I was a bit disappointed in my pastrami sandwich on my last visit. The pastrami was very dry, as if no oil was used to fry it. The onions weren't grilled quite long enough, and the portion size was much less than before. I think this is a family business, and maybe the youngsters took over when the seasoned staff retired but whatever the case, the sandwiches were definitely different. We used to go when they were on Pico, when the pastrami portion was bountiful, and the meat was cooked with (probably unhealthy) oil on the grill but it sure was good! The two staff working were nice enough. The cashier even let my husband have a sample of Orange Bang. I don't know if we would go again. The Oki Dog, with its two hot dogs, chili, cheese, and pastrami inside a burrito, exceeded all my expectations. It's quintessential LA! I knew the Oki Dog wouldn't be enough, so I needed something else. I was initially going to order the Chili Cheese Fries, but then I asked the staff for recommendations, and they were very helpful. Delicious Teri beef and chicken plate! Generous portions and the teriyaki sauce is spot on. It's not too sweet like other places.

Cash only. Opened in 1979 there are a few locations around LA and all take just cash. This location has a very small parking lot, enough room for about five cars. Otherwise it will be street parking. Service was pretty fast for us tonight and the staff was very polite. I had to try the original Oki Dog with cheese, which is basically two hotdogs with chili cheese in a tortilla and tastes just as you would expect. We also tried the teriyaki steak sandwich, which was good although I wished they would have grilled the onions. Also the chili cheese fries were very good, we especially liked the seasoning on the fries. Overall I would recommend as a good takeout option even though I wish they would start accepting card. This one is an old school joint that still continues to bring joy to all. For my last visit, I had the usual Oki's Dog, which is essentially similar to a burrito and contains two hot dogs, a slice of cheese, a slice of pastrami, and chili wrapped up in a flour tortilla. It is always so good and scrumptious, but nowadays, I feel like I need to go on a run right after eating one! This is definitely a good choice, especially if you haven't had it before. For the beverage, I had the tasty and yummy Orange Bang; this drink includes milk, eggs, sugar, and orange juice! This definitely kept me energized on the way home. Vegas or Oki's Dog. Vegas is far and no one can drive in their condition. But the Oki Dog is your safe place. A monster burrito with 2 foot long hotdogs, pastrami, kraut and chili. What could go wrong? Nothing and everything, that's what. Which is the beauty of both LA and Oki's Dog. The people I met there have become who I am today. The joy of that feast at that hour in combination with the substances on board multiplied by the colorful folks in the same, happily tragic boat as you going absolutely nowhere and everywhere at the same time is monumental to your mental and spiritual survival in that town. This is one of those extremely disappointing highly rated Yelp places that filled us with regret. Burgers don't even have toasted or warmed buns you get a cold burger. Flavor less. Fries were okay.
