I haven't been here in a while and I can see why. The steak super burrito I had was ok at best. I have a food truck that serves better burritos than The Burrito shop. The Syrah tasted old and over cooked, it was on the smallish side and tasted so bland even with salsa which was overpowering. Service was good and typical burrito shop service. Nothing great and nothing adding to a better grade. Ambiance is empty and I can see why. With minimal parking this will just be an ok place. A good amount of seating for lackluster burritos. I guess it will be another few years until I crave another burrito and come to this place for it. It did not suck at all it's just there are better options than this place. read more

It's not good. None of it. Burritos tasted bland and barely any contents. The inside needs a face-lift. I get that it's more of a to-go type shop but the furniture looks tattered and cream/white is NOT easy to upkeep. The only reason I gave more than one star was for their customer service. I used to go to the College Ave. location in Berkeley many, many years ago and I was so happy to find their Castro Valley location when I moved here years back. The following pretty much says it all. I've been frequenting The Burrito Shop since I was a little girl. My Mom used to get her nails done across the street from the one on College Avenue in Oakland, and this is where I fell in love with the Super Ground Beef Burrito with jalapeños on the side. This review is a little over 2 weeks past due. I contemplated on if I were going to post. What brought me to moving forward is that my last three visits have not been acceptable. I know that we are in the weirdest times and times are tough for everyone. But, I feel if you're going to continue to run your business run it with the utmost respect, quality, quantity and your loyal customers in mind. These are the people who keep the lights on. The Super Burrito is now the size of a regular burrito. You'll see in the pictures attached, how much tortilla is folded into the burrito of sparse fillings. The folded mound of tortilla on the right and you can clearly see the fillings on the left. Super now obliviously just means adding sour cream. Well upon my last visit as I'm chewing a bite, the food that's in my mouth isn't dissolving. It's because apparently it's a piece of the meat wrapper or a piece of parchment paper. Either way it was inedible. I was baffled! Then I got scared. Then I became disgusted, because I really didn't know what I was chewing on. If you look at the picture, it looks as if it's a piece of lettuce, or even tortilla, however it's not. I haven't given up on The Burrito Shop just yet. I've been going to the shop for ages. I've been at least 20 times. The food has alway been solid. The prices leave just alittle to be desired. My main issue and the reason for this review is they are charging for sauces now. I understand that prices have increased across the board but add it to the price of the burrito. I believe we spent close to 90$ on an order and they added .73 cents for the pico de gallo which is unacceptable. I probably won't be going back until they put the sauce tray/cart back out and I don't mind paying more for a burrito. read more

Since moving from San Jose last month, I have been trying to find my burrito fix. I drive by the Burrito Shop every morning on my way to the BART station, thinking hmmmm i need to check this place out. My wife, Baby and I decided to check this place out on a Friday Night around 6pm. All the parking spots at the front were full so we had to park down the street, which was not so bad. There was plenty of seating in the restaurant as well, however it is not to stroller friendly. I ordered the Grilled Steak Super Burrito, it appears everything is made fresh on site. The burrito is on the larger side, filled with plenty of meat. A little heave on the rice, but it was a good mix. However these are more Cal-Mex side of burritos, they are good but not the greatest burrito I have ever had. I think what is missing are your choices of the salsa bar, they are very limited. I think if there were more options for Salsas it would step up the burrito a notch. TLDR: Good Burrito, Friendly service, Fresh Ingredients, Decent side portions, would eat again. read more

Love the food here! It's been years, but we've been back a couple of times now - and they never disappoint! We are pescatarian - no meat (besides fish) and no dairy. They have excellent options for us! I've ordered the Cajun fish bowl twice now - and it is very tasty with fresh ingredients. Hubby usually likes the veggie burritos or fish burritos - and he is always happy with his selection. The staff is super friendly and accommodating! Service is always nice every time I come by. It sucks, every time we come though, nobody is ever eating in. Booths are empty. Then again, I guess they make their business mainly on takeout. The boots really look nice and comfy though! This place is very convenient for me to just grab a super burrito, on the way home in CV every now & then. One day, I will order something else on the menu, but the super burrito is very convenient to get. Also because it comes with everything I love! This is our new go to spot for healthy burritos, yay!! We don't eat meat or cheese so it's hard to find burritos that are more than beans and rice. We tried the Alcopoco and the Veggie burrito OMG both were HELLA BOMB! The Alcopoco had the classic taste but elevated with the avocado and fresh pico. OMG the veggie had perfectly cooked squash and zucchini and a delectable honey chipotle sauce. Service was friendly and left us smiling with a warm feeling :) read more

This was the absolutely driest, flavorless burrito I have ever had I order the super steak burrito. The meat has so much grizzle I thought for a sec it wasn't steak. Very little cheese, very little sour cream. The burrito had no seasoning no flavor. My daughter had the grilled chicken. We asked for no pico due to an allergy but instructions were not followed. They closed at 8 pm so we couldn't take it back until tmrw. We she arrived to get return the burrito they noticed the mistake but gv us a hard time with a refund. I will never eat here again. I live here . well when I got home we opened up the container 2 chicken salads and nachos almost $40 and absolutely disappointing! first lettuce is the cheapest thing to buy . the container had hardly any and the meat was slim where's the cheese where's the chips ? the picture looks larger but not! So I called them and asked if they could redo it or replace or credit me she said no! she said they don't fill the container w salad . So I don't recommend this place anymore read more

I ordered a Cajun chicken burrito (2nd time) and a grilled beef super burrito (1st time). I remember the Cajun chicken being more saucy the first time I tried it but this second time, it was a bit on the drier side. The grilled beef burrito wasn't super flavorful and the texture was on the tough side. Their mild salsa is quite spicy and their regular salsa was extremely spicy, in my opinion only. However, the location is close to home and their service was pretty good. For a quick dinner and to support local business, I'll go again. And also, I've noticed they've increased their cost, probably due to the pandemic. read more
