Yumee Katsu has expanded into another strip mall location, this time in Castro Valley. This casual restaurant specializes in katsus (breaded cutlets) served alongside Korean-style noodle dishes. The Shrimp Curry Udon came with three breaded shrimps on top of udon in a thick curry sauce, served with shredded cabbage salad, pickled onions, pickled daikon, and miso soup. The Jjolmyon were cold, chewy noodles in a spicy sauce, topped with shredded green/red cabbage, seaweed, carrots, scallions, zucchini, and a hard-boiled egg. Mixed together, this made for a cool, refreshing noodle dish. On the side, we got a Cheese Katsu, made of ooey, gooey cheese wrapped in a slice of pork, all in a crispy breading. My favorite entree (though not by far) was the Rose Toppoki Cutlet, made of chewy cylindrical rice cakes and slices of fish cake in a creamy, sweet, spicy, savory tteokbokki sauce, all topped with a pork cutlet. The best part of this dish was the creamy, flavorful sauce, which went nicely not just with the rice cakes, but with the perfectly crusted pork katsu too! Overall, the food here was delicious and on point. The tablet ordering and the service were quick and no frills, and everything came at a good value too!

Vibes were a little off. The seating is hella tight, like too tight for comfort. Especially if you come with a family or group of 3+ Came by for dinner with some girlfriends and we all arrived at different times. There was a huge party that was trickling in that seemed to also be a reserved table. You order via tablet so food order is first come first serve. It's not great for a reservation type situation, but also for the other tables if you happen to be dining in at the same time as a larger group. It's chaotic and the restaurant is so small that you're just watching the noise unfold. I got the chicken curry and my friends got the cheese cutlet as well as the assorted cutlet. My chicken curry was probably the best. They truly do panko fry the cutlets to the perfect crunch vs tender ratio. The cheese cutlet was a little too rich, so you might want to order the assorted combo so at least you have variety. I enjoyed my chicken curry, it was very filling and I demolished the whole plate. Service is kind, and they're doing their best. I think management has some work to do. The tablets are bolted down so it's awkward for all members to get a chance to look at the menu without neck pain and reaching over other diners. There are other katsu spots in the Bay, and unfortunately Yumee was not it for me.

This is a fairly new restaurant. We came here after walking around the cherry festival on Saturday. We arrived around 2:30pm and still lots of people! I thought it was weird that some tables had a ipad connected to it to order, but half did not. So we waited for the server to come. We got the pork loin cutlet udon and the regular pork loin cutlet. We both enjoyed our meals overall. But the only thing is we both thought the pork was a bit dry inside. Wish it was more moist. The outside was very crispy/crunchy so that was great. Sauce was great and I like hot they gave us salad, soup, and some radish. Good for the price now a days. It was a smaller restaurant, so it got full qucikly.

Came during lunch on a Saturday and we didn't have to wait too long. The place is pretty small but has a nice cozy feel to it. Service was quick and easy since we order off the iPad. We waited maybe 10-15 mins for food since it was packed when we went. Food was 10/10! The kimchi they used was nicely fermented so it gave off the right amount of tang. The curry was curry, nothing to die for but still very good! Definitely would come again for a quick and easy meal :)

We came as a group of 7 and got seated almost immediately as a group had just left. The restaurant is small so larger groups may not do well here. Order on the table on the table, the staff does come around and see if you have any questions We ordered 6 dishes and did family style. Well got the pork and chicken cutlet and the large katsu. The pork and chicken cutlets we got had a nice crispy breading but it was definitely overcooked. It was rather dry and definitely relied on the sauces of the dish to help with the texture. The shrimp tempura was good but the curry wasn't anything special. The large cutlet was the best but it is very thin. Overall I wouldn't go out of my way to come back but if another friend suggested coming here I wouldn't be opposed.

Yumee Katsu is a solid spot when you are craving katsu. Overall, the food is good, flavorful, and satisfying, with a menu that offers a nice variety of katsu and curry dishes. My main critique is that the breading was a bit too thick while the meat itself was too thin for the king cutlet. I prefer their regular katsu where the meat is thicker. The cheese katsu was definitely the standout. The crispy exterior paired with the gooey stretchy cheese made for a delicious bite. The curry was also well done - rich, flavorful, and comforting without being overly heavy. However, their portion felt slightly small for the price. While there areas that could be improved, the food is undeniably tasty and well-seasoned. Worth checking out if you are in the area.

Yumee Katsu is tucked away in a busy shopping plaza, but don't let that fool you. This spot pulls a good crowd during lunch and dinner times. My friend and I each got something different--I got the spicy tukbokke katsu, which came with crispy and tender pork katsu, and soft & chewy rice cakes. I loved the spicy sauce and all of the pickled items & salad that came with the set meal. My friend got the combination katsu which looked soooo good. I tried a piece of the cheese katsu and it was creamy and light. Def want to try that next time!

The place is clean, but it seemed like they were understaffed because we had to wait for a while before someone turned around to get their attention to be seated. There were tablets on every table and that's how you order. The fried items were good, but the curry was just okay. Overall, neither food nor service left a strong impression but also nothing was bad.

We came into this place around 5:30PM on a Friday, and there was plenty of seating available! By the time we left, the restaurant was completely full, so come early! There are tablets on each table to order, but the waitresses were still very attentive - they asked if we had any questions about the menu since their tablet isn't all that descriptive. Their katsu is DELICIOUS, the breading was perfectly fried - not super oily, but really crisp and delightful. Every bite of the pork was juicy and tender! The shrimp katsu has the same delicious breading, with a plump juicy shrimp inside! I definitely want to try the katsu without the sauces, as they get a little soggy while sitting on top of the curry/tteokbokki sauce. The curry was so satiating, the perfect pairing for rice. I'm glad we ordered a side of extra curry on the side - we finished every last drop! My husband was eating the curry sauce by the spoonful, he liked it that much. I ordered the rose tteokbokki - I've never had katsu in this style before, but it was a 10/10, and I would definitely order it again! The tteokbokki sauce was creamy, spicy, savory, perfection. The rice cakes were also well cooked, with a soft and chewy texture. I only wish they had added a few more fish cakes! Overall, I would definitely be back to try more of their menu! Their flavors pack such a big punch. I'd have trouble deciding what to order next time - everything was soooo good.

Came here on a Friday night and the restaurant was completely full. Although we were told our wait was 25 minutes, we ended up only waiting 5 minutes! At our table, there is a device that we order our food from. It's nice that there are pictures of the food, but it's not so nice that there is no description of what is in the food. So you kind of have to guess what you are ordering. Also, if you take a couple of minutes to decide what you want and don't touch the screen, it goes back to the main screen. My sister and I both ordered the Cutlet Curry Udon. It came with soup, salad, and some pickled veggies. The curry flavor was good and the noodles were good. The cutlet was nice and crispy on the outside, but slightly dry on the inside. I was disappointed that. there wasn't much curry sauce in my bowl. I definitely had less sauce than my sister. Also, the amount of noodles was only half of the bowl. I would've liked more noodles for the size of the bowl.

Big portions and it stayed crispy for takeout! Even the cheesy tonkatsu was still gooey after 20 mins. Chewy noodles and tteokbokki were so good but curry was alright, flavorful but nothing special.

We came in on Thursday evening. They were busy when we came in. Inside was a bit small; the space can feel a bit cramped. It was still their soft opening when we visited, so service was still a bit slow. However, the staff was accommodating and welcoming. We ordered King Donkatsu, Topokki, and Cheese Cutlet side. The king donkatsu was delicious. It was crispy and crunchy, and the pork was tender. The katsu had a tasty curry sauce, but I wished they had added a bit more since the katsu was big. The topokki was also great. The rice cake was chewy, and the sauce was sweet, spicy, and savory. I liked dipping my katsu in the topokki sauce for some extra heat. I honestly couldn't stop eating the rice cake even though I was so full. Lastly, the cheese cutlet was good, but it had a lot of cheese and only had a small amount of pork. Overall, we enjoyed our visit to Yumee Katsu. The portion was generous, and the prices were reasonable. I will definitely come back again.

The wait to order wasn't too long, maybe 15 minutes? While you wait, you pass by a display of cookies and they even have samples out for everyone to try. The staff was very nice, even though they were super busy! We tried: - Free chips & salsa: These are a must everytime I visit denica's. They are a great snack while you wait for your meal. 9/10 - The ube pancakes: These were pretty solid. I didn't think that the pancakes themselves had a very strong ube flavor, if any. I think all of the flavor was in the ube coconut sauce that they come with. However, there is only sauce on the first layer so you might want to get extra! It is an additional $2.75 or so to get the extra side of ube sauce, though. The pancakes themselves could have been a little more moist and fluffy, as they were a bit dry and dense. I loved the fruit and sauce, so that definitely made up for it! I'm glad that I got to try, but I don't think I'd get them again. Instead, I would get a regular pancake and a side of the ube coconut cream! 8/10 - The chorizo burrito: My bf said that this was also a pretty good option. He thought that it could have been a bit more flavorful, but was still satisfied with his meal! 7.5/10 - The side of hash browns: These were good, as to be expected! The portion was a bit small in comparison to other diners in the area. 7.5/10 Overall, I always enjoy my experiences at denica's! The food we ordered and the service we received (shoutout to Han) were superb. We sat outside since we had a doggo with us. When Han saw that we also had my toddler with us, she immediately brought out a coloring page, crayons, and water straw cup. I always appreciate places that think of the little ones! It was going to be a bit cramped to fit everything on one table so Han proactively suggested adding another table. Truly appreciate how attentive, thoughtful, and accommodating she was. For the 3.5 of us, we ordered 3 starters and 1 main. My girlfriends don't stuff themselves like I do, so we had plenty of food to share and bring home. First of all, definitely order the SMOKED BRISKET. I was shocked at how good this was. Haven't had brisket this good in a long time. The meat was so tender, flavorful, and had a perfect amount of fattiness to it. The baked beans, potato salad, and cornbread were all delicious too. I want to order this every time I go back now. The deviled eggs comes with 5. Love how the chili crunch and pickled cucumbers provide contrasting textures to the deviled eggs itself. All the ingredients and flavors really complemented each other. The garlic parmesan fries were yummy and come with your choice of sauce. And lastly, the hot artichoke and jalapeño dip comes with slices of sourdough baguette. I enjoyed this but wish they toasted the bread. Also, they have a wonderful selection of alcohol. I'm 6 weeks postpartum and breastfeeding so I sadly opted out of drinking this time around but looking forward to coming back and getting a cocktail to go along with the smoked brisket :P
