I haven't been here for years but wow...this is such an amazing dining experience. I like how we can simply wait in line and order food from the counter for bigger breakfast items. Normally, we have our own waiters to take our order, serve our food, give us the bill, and pay for it. This one is like ordering from a cafe but serving us breakfast that we usually find from a diner. There is also a display of bakery goods you can select from while you're at it. I don't know if I recall correctly, but we can self-serve complimentary chips and salsa as well as water. And they have hibiscus tea? Pretty much it's ran out already by the time I arrived. Speaking of that, it was very loud here since I came here during the weekend, but it doesn't really bother me as much. I mostly came here for the Ube Pancakes since I have them before and I think that they're famous for having them. Honestly, it's really good and tasted like how I had them back then. The serving was quite huge to the point that I'm almost full. It's expensive though since it's $22. That's quite unusual for just pancakes alone but that probably because of the ingredients they used. The Vietnamese iced coffee was sweet at first but watered down overtime, but that's natural. At least that didn't happen when my drink arrived. I really enjoy my time here and I'm thinking of returning perhaps on weekdays if I can. It's just too hectic here, but it's not to the point that I would leave since I drove about 25 minutes from Fremont for this restaurant. I feel like Ube Pancakes is the only main dish I have so far and so I'm looking forward for other dishes in the future.

What a surprise! Invited here by some friends, no idea what to expect. Most of their dishes are Hawaiian/hawaiian inspired. Appreciate that they have vegan options for vegans/vegetarians. We tried loco moco, chicken and waffles and vegan tostadas. Everyone enjoyed their dish; vegan tostadas were great. Wish we had more room for pastry and coffee because it all looked and sounded so good!

The first time I came to Denica's I realized Denica's is the place to be for the best breakfast. The ube pancakes were absolutely delicious, and the mimosa flight was a fun and tasty addition to brunch. The food portions were generous, and everything came out fresh and flavorful. It does get busy on the weekends but then we had it two days in a row

Came for brunch today with my family and had a wonderful time! Denica's has a bunch of indoor seating, and the entrance is on the corner Lake Chabot and Castro Valley Blvd. You go up and order from the front, then grab some free chips & salsa and find a spot to sit. The staff were all very nice, and were fairly quick with preparing our food. I LOVED the salsa bar, all of their salsas were delicious (and I appreciated that I could help myself to as much as I want). I also got the Guava Pancakes and 100 Chilis Benny (sub bacon for chorizo), and both were delicious. The coffee drinks I got were pretty good, but nothing to write home about. The prices are a bit higher, but you get large portions fwiw. Overall this is a great breakfast/brunch spot, and I'd highly recommend it if you're in the area.

Came in for breakfast at about 10am and was they were pretty slow, just missed the breakfast. You order at the counter, pay for it and they give you a number on a stand and they bring you the food whens its ready. Chilaquiles with tortillas chips salsa verde, 2 eggs, cotija cheese, tomatoes, sour cream, avocado, cilantro was very good. Loco Moco with over easy egg, ono brown gravy, meatloaf patty, and rice was okay, I felt that the meatloaf and gravy wasn't seasoned well. Also blend!!! The rice was mushy!!! They have a chips and salsa bar where you can grab as much as you want. Nice and warm. Overall, its is good I would return and tried other menu items. I have gotten cookies from here before and they were very good!!!

Came in here on a Monday morning. They were a bit busy, but the line to order goes fast. The staff was very nice and welcoming, even though they were busy. We were surprised to see that inside was big and had lots of seating. I ordered the Chicken and Waffle and an Island Latte. The waffle tasted great, especially with the spicy syrup. The heat cut down the syrup's sweetness and made me appreciate the waffle more. The chicken was okay. It was crispy, but I found it dry and bland. The Island Latte was also okay. It tasted watered down; it didn't have coconut or much coffee flavor. Someone in my group ordered the Ube Pancakes. Unfortunately, they found the pancake too sweet, and the ube flavor too overpowering. On the bright side, the portion was huge. We had a lot of leftovers to bring home.

I've heard only good things about Denica's and I can see why. Denica's features a wonderful blend of brunch, bakery, Hawaiian, and Tex-Mex cuisine: a foodie's paradise. We were immediately welcomed in like "ohana", service compariable to something you'd only see in Hawaii. Questions about the bakery? Questions about the menu? Someone knew, and answered with a smile. Looking at the menu, there were so many things I wanted to try that I will have to come back for. I am willing to admit I may have simply ordered the wrong thing. That being said, I got an omelette, and it was slightly disappointing. A little too oily, and a little underseasoned. The hero was the complementary salsa from the salsa bar, and I'm definitely not the first person to say this. For $18 I expect a little more. The restaurant was filled with families, sports teams, groups of friends, and celebrations. It's apparent this place is teeming with community as people rally around Denica's. It really did feel special.

2/24/26 FYI. OMG. Cookies are amazing!
    Lee D.

Cookies are 5 stars! Quality/Quantity - Wait, how and why is my wife going to all the places I have been trying to visit?!?! At least she brought back some AMAZING cookies for me. She actually brought back 6 cookies, but by the time I got home, there were only 4 left, lol. See pictures. These cookies, I mean all of them, were AMAZING!! My new favorite cookie place! My wife also got chicken and waffles and said it was good. Sorry, no pictures. Known for their breakfasts, specifically their Ube pancakes. Well Ube everything. I have to be honest, since we discovered the Ube pancakes at Trader Joe's, it's hard for me to buy it anywhere else... Ambiance - N/A; delivery by my wife. Open 7 days a week from 7am to 2pm or 3pm. See website for specifics. Service - She said good. Price - Not sure as my wife paid, but I am sure prices are above average especially for this high quality of cookies/food. Owner Comment - Congrats on all your success since 1999 and with your 4 locations. I enjoyed your story on your website.

Sunday brunch is always packed at Denica's. The line to order moves pretty fast but be prepared it may take a while to find somewhere to sit. They have so many breakfast and lunch options on the menu and the baked goods are to die for. Portions are also HUGE so bring your appetite! I ordered the eggs Benedict which was alright overall. The eggs were cooked over hard vs runny. I personally like my eggs Benedict with a poached egg so I was disappointed. Hash browns were nicely crisped. My fiancé tired the meat omelette which he said was delicious. We also tried the ube hot chocolate which was surprisingly tasty. The mimosas of course were on point as well. Love that they have complementary chips and salsa while you wait for your food, but this day they were out and took a while to refill.

Came here straight from the SFO airport for breakfast on a Thursday morning and I'm so glad that my cousin and brother recommended it! I was a bit skeptical because of the tight parking lot and different way of seating and ordering than I'm used to from a daily dining spot, but was pleasantly surprised with selection of food, the quality and size of the dishes, and the complimentary chips & salsa & beverages offered! From the start we missed the entrance to the building not knowing you enter from the perpendicular street. It did take a little bit to get back around. *enter on Lake Chabot Rd! The parking lot has super tight spaces so cars were over lines and taking up multiple spaces. Signs all around to take all of your belongings (seeming like there's lots of theft) and that the restaurant is not responsible. Of course. Once inside, there were tons of seating options to accommodate different party sizes and it seemed like there was a continuous flow of guests. There are menus up front and you order and pay first, then get a number and take a seat. Because my brother had been there before, he knew there was a complementary water & hibiscus tea station as well as chips and salsa, which was a nice touch! Coming from another state, I felt that the prices were a bit more expensive, but I was happily surprised when I saw the amount of food that came on the plate! Well worth the price :) Food: -mochiko chicken and pandan waffles (waffle was perfectly crips and side and the chicken was juicy and well breaded) -epic chicken and waffles (same!) -breakfast burrito (my mom really loved that it wasn't soggy and it held itself well! Very savory!) -pink guava pancakes + side sausage (the guava pancakes were on the sweeter sweeter side, but the guava flavor stood out A+ and the pancakes were hot and fluffy. The sausage had the perfect snap and was a great addition to contract the sweet pancakes!) *we ended up taking a good amount home and really do think we should have shared and gotten one less plate, but we loved the leftovers! I can't say too much about the service other than they are friendly at the cashier and when delivering food, but there's not really a table side service afterwards other than cleaning up. Overall, will def be back again if ever I am in the area, or near any of the other locations :)

My husband and I linked up with his coworkers for a brunch at Denica's Real Food Kitchen in Castro Valley! The space is huge and clean--perfect for groups. Despite being busy, the service was surprisingly quick! Our Spread: * Ube Pancakes: Fluffy purple yam pancakes drenched in ube coconut sauce with a side of banana and mixed berries topped with whipped cream. A must-try! * Loco Moco: A classic with a meatloaf patty and ono brown gravy. * Mochiko Chicken & Waffle: Hawaiian fried chicken on a mochi pandan waffle. * Bella's Strawberry Waffle: Belgian waffle with fresh strawberries and whipped cream. Pro-tip: Order at the counter first, grab a number, and then find a spot. The portions are definitely shareable if you aren't starving! If you're in the East Bay, put this on your brunch list.

It was fine. Not bad, not memorable. The complimentary chip and salsa bar (dine-in only fyi) is doing a lot of the work here. That part I genuinely love. The 100 chile sauce is excellent and the chips are dangerously easy to keep grabbing. Easily the highlight of the meal. I also appreciate the Hawaiian-ish breakfast angle. Loco moco variations, ribeye options, etc. It's a fun spin and sets them apart on paper. Service was great too. Everyone was friendly and on it, and even though this is a franchise, it does feel like the owners put real thought into the place. The little present-moment reminder on the order numbers was actually very dope to see. That said, the food came out very fast, which makes it clear they're optimized for turning tables. Efficient, yes, but it shows in the execution. The omelette had a lot of filling, but the egg itself was extremely thin and the ratio was off for me. Hash browns were fine, just already lukewarm when they hit the table. I might be back, but breakfast around here is competitive and this didn't quite stand out enough to pull me back anytime soon. The salsa bar will probably be the reason, if anything.

I've been to Denica's before at their Pleasanton location and really enjoyed it, especially the amazing chips and salsa. Since I live closer to the Castro Valley location now, I decided to stop by. This is the type of place where you order and pay first, then find a table and they bring the food out to you. On weekends, it can sometimes take a while to find seating, but service is quick and efficient once you order. I ordered the chorizo breakfast burrito and substituted the chorizo with soyrizo, plus asked for crispy hash browns instead of potatoes. While the burrito was good overall, there was not enough soyrizo and way too much hash brown. It also could have used a bit more cheese to really bring out that cheesy flavor. The chips and salsa were just as great as I remembered. I especially love their 100 chile salsa, which reminds me a lot of La Vic's orange sauce. I'll definitely come back, but I'll try something different next time.

    Do you use organic ingredients?

    Never. :)

Are the House Fries just potatoes? Is there any other ingredients mixed with the potatoes?

Their house fries are really good! They're just potatoes and green onions

Are the salads and sandwiches that used to be on the menu gone for good?

Do the owners give you a nasty side eye for not wearing a mask?

The bay area is very serious about masks. I did not see a single person NOT wearing a mask, so it will also be the customers giving you "nasty side eye." Respect an establishment's safety precautions or order uber eats🤗

Are vaccines required for indoor dining? I'm hoping so.

    No.

Does it get very busy on Saturday mornings?

Yes, every restaurant that serves breakfast gets insanely busy on weekend mornings, especially Denica's. Earlier the better

Do you still have outdoor dining? how busy is it for outdoor table on weekend lunch?

Yes to your question, it's very busy on Saturday mornings and they do still serve outdoors however, the service is excellent they work dutifully to serve everyone in a very timely manner so the wait time isn't very long. When I go with some of my…

    Do you make gluten-free / non-GMO pancakes?

Not certain about gluten free pancakes, you can call them and ask

    Do you take reservations?

    No Reservations

Are there gluten free options for pancakes?

I'd be there in a heartbeat if they served buckwheat pancakes. It's probably just as easy to source. There is nothing "special diet" about them. ;)

    Are the pancakes vegan?

This restaurant is for the indulgent eater, so that is a no.

Is the outdoor seating area dog friendly?

Yes! I went a few weeks ago with a big dog and had no issues

Are they open for take out?

    Yes, they are!

Are their eggs and potatoes dairy free (meaning no added milk or butter)? Are their ham or sausages dairy and soy free as well? I know some sausages have hidden dairy and soybean oil as a preservative.

Hi Karen- We cook our eggs in butter, but on request we can use oil instead, there is no other dairy in the eggs. The country potatoes are dairy free, however we do cook the hash browns with butter. (no soy whatsoever in these items)…

I had to get the kouign amann because I always get one wherever I can, and also picked up a plain croissant, currant scone, and panna cotta. The KA was decent; I would call this one a diet KA because they only put the sugar on one side so it was more like a brulee'd croissant. I also have to admit that, while this shaping is very attractive, the direction of the lamination makes eating this feel like shards in my mouth. However, flavor was excellent. The plain croissant is very plain. It's decent but I've had better. The scone and panna cotta, however, were delightful. Both had lovely soft textures and wonderful creamy flavors. The scone held up for two days and wasn't even a bit stale when I finally had it for breakfast. Highly recommend this tucked-away bakery in the Castro Valley!

Nice strong sour flavor, spongy dough that was almost moist (not at all dry). I want to note on the gluten free front that seven hills baking co offers a few items which they advertise to be gluten free. Though the ingredients may be gluten free, the items are baked in the same kitchen, the same oven, and then put side by side with the gluten in the display case. This is more than just a cake shop!…read more I was looking for a new coffee joint when I stumbled across Bake it Up. It's located in the Lucky shopping center and has plenty of parking outside. There isn't seating inside but there is a few tables outside if you'd like to sit and enjoy. This place has been here for about two years. They have a great variety of tasty coffees and other drinks if you're not into coffee. I got a breakfast bakery item but they have plenty of cupcakes and cakes to choose from. The owner was so nice and helped us make good decisions on what to try. I will be back to try some of their dessert options.

I saw the cakes and they were still in there but turned me away. Went back today to buy cupcakes for my sons class but it took like 25 minutes for them to pack the cupcakes in the display case. They had a little boy working about 7/8 years old that had to call his mom to ask which cupcakes had peanuts, then had to make the boxes, then pack them. By the time I got them it was too late . My son knew I was bringing cupcakes and told his classmates but I never showed. I'll still drop them off tomorrow but kind of disappointed. Not sure if I have a third chance left in me lol. The cupcakes look tasty though.

Sent in order/inquiry via email and she was able to communicate effectively all the details that needed to be addressed in the span of a few days. Cake quality: 4.5/5 I originally chose s'mores and guava but because I wasn't sure if two layers would be too much for 2 people serving, I decided with 1 layer and 1 flavor. S'mores flavor was a marshmallow delight, which included a marshmallows buttercream for frosting, chocolate flavor cake, and marshmallows and graham cracker center. I loved that the frosting and cake were not overly sweet but felt that there could've been a bit more graham cracker. Overall: would highly recommend! If you are looking for a fast turn around time, and solid in quality flavor and design, please consider paperrock fork bakery! Also, Cheers to Elmeisher--She really cares and aims to make every cake wonderful and her best work yet. Can't wait to try her bakery again :)

I ordered a cupcake pull apart Dinosaur cake for my sons 2nd birthday!…read more I sent a dinosaur image I got from Google and asked if they could add a party had with his age on it. I honestly wasn't expecting it to turn out this good but wow! The artwork with the buttercream nailed the original image. Flavors: I opted for 4 flavors cookies n' cream, funfetti, Vanilla strawberry filling and chocolate! The chocolate cupcake with the chocolate filling were to die for. Super rich! Will surely be ordering from this place again!

I originally came in for Dubai inspired chocolate pistachio cheesecake but was instead greeted so warmly by head pastry chef Nile! She is full of life and so passionate about her baked goods. I almost wanted to buy one of everything after hearing about each item. Desserts: *Blueberry Ube Cheesecake *Pistachio Ricotta Cake *Dubai Pistachio Chocolate Cake with Biscoff Cookie Butter *Red Velvet Cheesecake Cup Nile just baked the Dubai cake and mentioned she would have a slice for herself that night. It was sweet and decadent for sure. Definitely perfect for sharing! I loved the blueberry ube cheesecake and so did Mom! I was looking for my leftovers and they disappeared from the fridge. Creamy and slightly fruity with that thick buttery crust-- amazing! Pistachio Ricotta cake was light and moist. Perfect when you want something delicately sweetened for tea time. Red Velvet cheesecake cup was just ok for me due to the cheesecake frosting. I think I would've preferred a whole slice of cake instead. This bakery kiosk is a part of Turkish-Mediterranean restaurant Moussaka. Interior has the cutest cafe tables and chairs. Love the grey with baby pink + mint green color scheme. Step inside and go directly to the dessert display to place an order. They're also on DoorDash. Can't wait to see what Chef Nile comes up with next!
