This place is so charming! We kind of stumbled upon it today while looking for another farm. It was completely random and I am sooooo happy we did! As we discovered this is a family owned farm, the mother, son, and daughter were running the show, and they were all so incredibly friendly. The daughter (sorry I forgot or didn't catch her name) was telling us all about how they came to acquire some of the animals there, specifically some of the adorable pigs. They seem to truly care about the well being of all the animals they care for. They had a bubble machine going which added such whimsy and fun to the overall experience, they even had music playing. You can feed the animals and interact and go into the pen with the goats. My daughter had her very first pony ride here and she loved it. My daughter wanted no part of the hayride but that was ok. I'm sure it would have been very enjoyable. I will definitely recommend this place to family and friends. read more

The place was very rundown and the hayride was more of a view of all the rusting iron trash they have than anything else and powerlines. They also really need to clean the fish tanks in the reptile area. Still a great experience they just need to clean up the place a little bit. Having said that I still recommend going, the animals are wonderful and very soothing the sheep don't jump up on you like other places and the giant horse Trucky is a very gentle giant. read more

I chose to take my family here after reading reviews and pictures, and while it was okay, I was a bit disappointed. Looking now, I realize the reviews and pics are from up to 8 years ago. I think the farm hasn't been maintained well since. We got there early and there was already a ton of animal poop in the pens and lots of trash all around left to rust. Some is charming, like an old tractor, some isn't like old broken buckets etc. My husband referred to it as "more of a looking zoo" as there isn't much interaction with the animals. You can only enter the very first pen of goats. All of the other animals are in pens that you cannot enter, or feed them. Then there is a tractor ride. We got on and had to wait about twenty minutes to go because they wanted a full ride. It goes through an incredibly bumpy trail through...a weed filled field. Branches hitting everyone along the way. At least we're in NH in the fall where even an unkempt field with giant power lines is pretty. It goes past some llamas toward the end which was cute. I think Carriage Shack Farm should focus on cleaning up the pens, pruning the hayride path and adding some animals to see on it. The Halloween blowup trail was unnecessary when there's clearly work that needs to be done. I might try again in a few years but currently the place does not look like the old pictures posted by past guests. read more

I really enjoyed my time here. It's a pretty traditional petting farm with goats, chickens, horses, cows, etc. they also have a surprisingly impressive reptile barn and you can pet/hold some of the reptiles. They also had a tractor ride that kids enjoyed. The family was also extremely kind and patient with my children while we were there, and is a selling point for coming here. Whole experience was about an hour and a half, I'm pretty happy with what we got for cost of entry. read more

We hired them for a small petting zoo for my grandson's second birthday. The setup was perfect - they put up a pop up for shade, a fence to keep the animals in and food and water for the animals. The staff is so kind and informative and you see the care and respect they have for the animals. Such great examples for little ones. I took the kids I care for on a trip to the Carriage Shack Farm and we had the best time! It's on a quiet road, tucked down a dirt/gravel drive. It has that real authentic farm feel (without the farm smell!) The other families that were there brought children who didn't look much older than 5 or 6 years old. My kids are 9, 11 & 13. Even though petting farms are typically for a younger crowd, my kids really enjoyed themselves. This farm has a ton of animals. We got to see pigs, sheep, llamas, pigs, turkeys, ponies, steers, hens, ducks, peacocks, turtles, tortoises, bunnies, goats, geese, and quite the variety of chickens. The animals are housed near each other so the walking is minimal. All of the animals are well mannered here! (I've been to my share of petting zoos with unfriendly animals and getting nipped when you're interacting is not a fun experience). We got to go inside the goat pen and pet them up close. The kids got to go inside the pen that holds the bunnies and pet them. This is a family owned farm and there were plenty of people around to answer questions about the animals and show us where to go. They were nice and we learned some new things. The people working there stayed close by, but not so close that we felt like we were being hovered over. The $5 a person entrance fee includes a tractor ride and rope demonstration. The kids each got to make some rope to take home. The tractor ride is covered, and I enjoyed the ride in the shade. It cost extra to go on a pony ride ($4 each) and feed the animals ($1 for two cones of feed). The younger 2 went on the pony ride and loved it. We all fed the animals and I have to admit, it really was fun. It was a little awkward when I paid for the activities. I'm so use to being bluntly asked for money the second I go anywhere. The people here are more laid back They have popcorn and water available for purchase, as well as fresh eggs. You can also preorder your thanksgiving turkey. While we were walking around the farm, we got to see the turkeys that would become food come November. I thought it would be at least a little traumatizing (pardon me being a vegetarian). The kids were unfazed. It is a working farm and they got a better understanding of where their food comes from. They also have a well "like in the olden days" as one of my kids described. It's low to the ground and the kids got to pump the lever to make the water come out. They were all fascinated by the well and spent about 15 minutes playing with it (The water is recycled through the apparatus, so they could play with it all they wanted without wasting water.) I gave this farm 5 stars because as an adult I had a great time and would definitely go back. read more

This is the most amazing place to visit whether just to stop by to see the animals or have a birthday party. These people work so hard to make you feel comfortable and welcome. My grandchildren love going there and pet the animals and have a ride on the wagon. They always have popcorn and during holidays ( I was there for Easter and Christmas) my grandchildren got to have there pictures taken with the Easter bunny and Santa. Honestly I was headed for the zoo in my mind this day. I looked up the farm and decided to "swing by". What a great time we had. They were so kind and accommodating while we were there. We got to interact with all of the animals. Spoke with the family . The barn was filled with eclectic items and we found it interesting. They ended our visit there with a tractor ride and brought a basket out with waters, popcorn and animal crackers. This was a nice touch for the ride!! Kudos for some down home farm fun for kids. We went with family friends and the kids had a lot of fun. It's a nice, relaxing place that has a lot to do in a small space... carriage ride, horse ride, lots of animals to pet, a picnic area, AND they sell fresh eggs, which we bought! It was a perfect way to spend the morning. There were always a few people right nearby who work there, and they were all very friendly and seemed very dedicated to the animals. The Shack Family is truly one of a kind. We arrived greeted by the female owner with open arms. She was so friendly and accommodating it was like she was welcoming us to her home. This farm is family run and it shows. The passion of this family is amazing. From the son and daughter to the mom and dad this family truly wants to give you a great time. The entry fee is 5 bucks (much cheaper than any other zoo around!)This included a wagon ride, popcorn, water, ice cream and all the animals a toddler would want to see. Sheeps, chicks, horses, goats, hens, turkeys, llamas, pigs, tortoises and everything in between. What a great experience to explore farm life. Kudos to this family run business. This Farm was so nice! I was surprised how friendly and interactive the animals were. It seems the whole family works at this farm. Even the Grandfather, who drives the tractor to pull the wagon on quite a lengthy hayride! We went to the winter festival Feb 16th. It was nothing as described. THe admission was 10.00 for adults and there was nothing to see except an over crowed barn . The only fire to cook the hotdogs and Smores was a barrel in a corner with a fire in it. The animals were described as being in the winter barn, I guess but it was tiny and the type was limited. I am so impressed by not only the laid back old time farm experience, but the family its run by. If you take the time and talk with them, you will learn most of the animals have been all rescue animals. Some people don't understand why an animal is in a cage, well if you ask, it has just been rescued and needs to be brought in slowly to the other animals so they can get used to each other, as well as for health issues. This is NOT abuse or mean... please just dont assume things, these people are doing a great job and are unbelievable with their animals. I brought my toddler to Carriage Shack Farm for a visit. The admission price of $6 is very reasonable as you can go in and wander and see all the animals for as long as you want and also get a wagon ride with water and either popcorn or animal crackers. My son loved checking out all of the animals, some of which were just walking around out in the open. The wagon ride was 10-15 minutes. I went here today with my boyfriend - no kids, just us. I LOVE farm animals and really wanted to check this place out based on the reviews already on here. I must say, they have a big variety of well-cared for an ridiculously friendly animals. We talked to one of the members of the owner's family for a while- he was really friendly and really knowledgeable on the animals, how they're cared for, which animals are used for what, etc. We spent a total of $11 dollars here, got to feed tons of animals, met the friendliest horse and bull on earth, and got to hold newborn chicks, pet rabbits, goats, sheep, etc. This place is great, and I will absolutely be going back- kudos to this family for maintaining such a stock of friendly and healthy animals. read more

This was just right. Not too big, not too small. We loved it. The other review was very thorough; so, not too much to add. They have the friendliest goats I have ever met. One of the little ones kept rubbing her head on my leg. Too cute. You can tell that the animals are loved and part of the family, which made the visit really special. As we were the only ones there, we got a lovely tour from the granddaughter. She gave us lots of information about the different animals and their unique personalities. I don't know if that is typical, but I would have paid extra for such a personalized experience. And FYI -- don't be scared to feed the llamas with their big, big teeth. Not only hanging out with all the animals , the wagon ride is cool. They always have an activity for the kids to do... Free popcorn and water for the wagon ride. Just an all around fun family place at a very reasonable price. The family at the farm are awesome. Very friendly and right there with you enjoying the experience . We have a 2 and a 4 year old. They loved this farm! They had many animals. And the owners were very friendly. The Goat/Sheep pen was great - 2 big goats, several small goats and 3 sheep - all very friendly. Our 2 year old walked amongst them without fear of being knocked over or nipped. They have 2 potbelly pigs that were very cute. You could reach in and pat them. They had 3 lamas. Bunnies in pens could be picked up and held. They have dozens of unique chickens - lots of roosters crowing. They have a horse pen with about 5 ponies and a couple donkeys. There's a big draft horse, a steer, and turkeys. Also, they gave us a long carriage ride, pulled by a tractor. Don't be mislead by the drive in or the parking area as it seems small. It was $4 apiece to get in and there was no pressure to pay for anything else. There is no food stand or any other activity. This is simply a petting zoo, but it is great at that! We really had a fun time. Make it a stop on your way to pick apples. read more

They have lots of animals to pat, they put bubbles out on the picnic tables (which are clean), popcorn/ water, and a hay ride! No lit signage for the farm, so traveling in the dark it's tough to find. Once at the farm, the Christmas lights and overall feel of the place was a let down. Seems to be a pretty low budget display. The animals were kept indoors and the small corral they were kept in smelt so strongly of animal urine, our eyes were stinging. We were told to wait in a barn until the tractor ride was ready. The room where they serve their breakfast smelled like manure and was not very enjoyable. We chose to wait outside. We were loaded on to the lit tractor which had lots of hay and they offered blankets. The 20 minute tractor ride was decent however there was nothing much to see on the actual ride besides a very sad light display which consisted of three lit deer, one of which had fallen over. We arrived back and were led on a very poorly lit trail (our 3 year old fell twice) leading to a display of blow up characters. Again, very sad display. We then went back into the barn to visit with Santa. This was probably the better part of our experience. Our son enjoyed visiting with Santa who was very nice and welcoming. They offered hot chocolate and cookies and each child got a small stuffed animal toy. Overall, definitely not worth the $12 per adult/$10 per child admission. I will say that all of the staff and people there were very nice. I hate leaving bad reviews especially for such nice people however it was not worth the money. read more
