Seat yourself, a waitress quickly stopped by with menus and took a drink order. The menu is pretty big and includes breakfast and a kids menu. I ordered hot tea and am so happy to have received a cup of tea with a pot of tea back-up! Yes, all the tea please. The lemons on the side added to my tea joy. It's the small things. My SO ordered himself an open faced roastbeef sandwich. This is shredded roast on top of a sweet roll smothered in gravy with a side of mashed potato. He certainly ate it like it was tasty. (I did confirm - it is tasty.) I went with an a la carte breakfast of two eggs and one pancake. The pancake had a slightly sweet taste and is fluffy. The eggs were cooked perfectly 'over easy'. You can tell they are cooked as eggs should be over a low heat - no scorch marks on the outer edge. Bathrooms are in the back left corner and are cleanest where it matters most. Diaper station in the ladies room. During our visit many of the guests knew each other and chatted amongst themselves. All the staff we came in contact with were friendly. They kept a close eye on all the guests making sure everyone had everything they needed. All together a good stop.

I NEVER tip any less than 20% no matter how bad or borderline the service may be; but for tonight's less than regretful experience at Road Hog Saloon, I had to make an exception. Arriving arounf 7:20 pm, I immediately noticed a smaller than normal crowd and took a seat at the bar and ordered iced tea from one of the two bartenders present. The more elder one took my order which was a rib eye medium rare (seared on the outisde with a warm red center), loaded baked potato (with extra butter and sour cream), and corn. To me, a very simple, straight forward order. After placing it, I turned my attention to my phone since I was trying to figure out my schedule for the rest of the month since requests were made for my time. I hear the bartender that took my order cuss and scream something and storm off to the other side of the bar which prompted the other bartender to address the situation. Customers came and went and my order finally arrived. Knowing how well Road Hog Saloon seasons their steaks, I had no reason to worry about the flavor and started to cut in......to what should have been a tender piece of meat that would give way to streaks of juices streaming out of it; instead, I was trying to cut through what felt like a strap of leather. Inspecting the piece I finally freed from the husk, I saw a mostly brown strip with the slightest hint of pink in the center. I set it aside for the opportunity when the bartender might swing by and ask how everything was and started in on my side items. When I was almost finished with my baked potato, the bartender finally makes eye contact with me and I told her that the steak was a little overdone (which was a gross understatement). To this, she snatches the plate from the bar top and bee lines to the kitchen. I didn't catch all of the conversation, but I did hear her finally say, "just drop it rare then!" She comes back to me and argues with me that the steak was medium rare and that is how they cook it with a pink center (but all the previous times I ordered from this establishment, it was seared with a warm red center). She says nothing other than, we are going to make it rare for you then. Time passes and I am about ready to just give up, ask for my check, and leave when the other bartender brings out another steak looking extremely under-seasoned and asks me to cut into it, which I did, and just wanting to put the evening behind me; I told her it was fine. Upon inspection of the new steak, I was amused to find that it was at least 1/3 fat and gristle and separated as much of it as I could for a side by side comparison (as pictured). Completely giving up, I just asked for a box (I have enough faith in my cooking skills to salvage the "steak") and my check. When she finally hands me my check, I noticed that the individual ordered items were not listed and I asked for an itemized receipt so I could turn it in for reimbursement from my employer. She then yells at me that she cannot produce an itemized receipt and what do I want her to do? Hand write the items on the receipt?!?!?! I decided to cut my losses and handed her my card and said I was done with her attitude and I just want to leave. She shoves the receipt with $35.01 at me and takes my card to run it. I get back a credit card receipt that shows that it was run for $36.41!!!! I waited awhile for her to return so I could ask her about the discrepancy, but even though I was sitting at the bar and she is a bartender; she did not make it back around to me. Giving up on any further interaction with her, I left a 10% tip since I did take up some time at my seat and left. I will probably never return here again despite all the good experience I've had, this one has completely ruined it for me.

First I'll say that I had studied the menu posted on here and when we got there it has changed so I will post the updated menu. We started with the calamari. On the old menu it came with marinara, spinach and peppadew peppers. Sounded fantastic! New menu came with marinara and cherry peppers. Eh, not as exciting but we went ahead with it. What came out was so disappointing! There is a photo here on yelp of a ribeye steak with a basket of calamari in the background that looks really good. What we got was completely different. Pre-breaded frozen rings in a heavy, flavorless batter. They were greasy and there were no cherry peppers or garnish of any kind. The marinara was bleh and sweet. No amount of salt helped either the marinara or the calamari. The dish was in serious need of some acid to cut through all the grease, batter and sweet marinara so I asked for some lemon wedges. They were out of lemons. Next should have been the salad but it came out with the meal instead. That always irks me. Anyway I had gone with the wedge because photos of the house and caesar salads looked pretty boring. The wedge was delicious. A little bit more dressing would have been great but the blue cheese crumbles, jam and tomatoes were on point and the lettuce was crisp and refreshing. Then the entree. Old menu had a 16 oz ribeye for $40, now they offer a 14 oz for $50. Again, I went ahead with it. The farm-to-table beef was what brought us in. I ordered medium rare and felt like it was just barely there, maybe that was just tonight or maybe that's how they always do it, IDK. It was tender, juicy and had great beef flavor, the rancher that raised it did a great job. The cook? Not so much. It needed salt, in fact I don't think there was any seasoning on it at all from the kitchen. I'm a steak purist but a little salt and pepper go a long way and a pat of butter on top really sets it off. Some of the photos here on yelp show beautiful steaks with butter and chives on top. This was just steak. Excellent quality, poor execution. Now let's talk about the side dish. The menu said "roasted corn with bacon, onions, cream and parmesan". Sounds fantastic, right? I can see an image of it in my head and almost taste it! What I got though was absolutely gross and they should have been embarrassed to serve. I guess it was canned corn because frozen should have tasted fresher. It was NOT roasted. The kernels were tough and starchy like field corn, not sweet corn. There were no onions and no parmesan but it was floating in some milk or half and half, I couldn't tell which. Not cream. And it had some bacon in there which was what I picked out and ate because it was the only edible part of the dish. Last was dessert. I was dying to try the ooey gooey butter cake but alas, that was on the old menu, not this one. So we settled for carrot cake. It was a big serving and it tasted fine but it was just a standard bakery cake. It was garnished with whipped cream and caramel which I felt was out of place but hubby liked. The cream cheese frosting was good and there was lots of carrot and raisins in it. Overall the entire meal was just a big "miss" for both of us. Our server was nice and the rest of the staff as well. The place was nicely decorated and had a great deck out back. But when we heard farm-to-table beef I guess we envisioned more than grocery store frozen calamari, nasty corn and basic bakery cake. Even the steak although of excellent quality was lacking, due to under seasoning and under cooking it. The entire experience was just a big disappointment unfortunately. I hope it was an off night for them but we won't be back to find out.
