Food was great! We ordered hamburger steak with okra (double serving), a pancake - had to try it since it's highly rated, and Indian taco. Hamburger steak with mushroom and onions smothered in gravy was perfect! And the okra was good!! Pancake. Waitress said if we didn't like it, something is wrong with us. Whew! We loved it! Good to know, we are alright lol. One of the best pancakes we've had. She was right, it is good!! Indian taco, perfection!! Very good. Everything cooked to order and homemade. Fresh ingredients. Honestly this place was 10/10. The food was so good and the staff was really nice. The atmosphere actually felt like you were eating at a real Mexican/Tex-Mex restaurant and it had a really good vibe. I've seen people hating on this place but honestly I don't understand why because my experience was great. It does seem like they could use a few more workers because it got a little busy, but overall I had a really good experience and would definitely come back. 10/10 read more

Order 2 biscuits and gravy, they serve enough gravy for 1 biscuit with this order and you pay extra if you want gravy for the 2nd one. None of the food was anything special! A quick spin on the Will Rogers Tpk. working our way between and around the heavy truck traffic and the annoying drivers that think the left-hand lane is for cruising. Then taking highway 69 N. at the Big Cabin Exit for the relaxing final miles. On the road side the cows graze in the pastures and redtail hawks are perched on the fences looking for breakfast. The Hi-Way Café is a quintessential Mother Road diner, decorated with iconic symbols of America's past. A must stop for the photo op and good food. Their menu is big, covering a little of everything. This ain't no Mexican restaurant, though. If you are a tourist stick with diner food: breakfast, a burger, something fried, or simply a cup of coffee and a big slice of fresh pie. For us a couple of eggs, crispy hash browns, crispy bacon, all cooked exactly as ordered. My wife added a big fluffy fresh biscuit with gravy and for me just the gravy. The gravy was instant; common. Very few diners make it from scratch. A few crumbles of country breakfast sausage for seasoning would have made it perfect. The coffee was good; our cups stayed full. Friendly service. Be sure to check out the car with all the stickers on it. Also, the old Jukebox. It is still filled with 45's; song titles that only your grandparents would remember! read more

Good food. Owner had time to give a history to our group, plus a tour of some of Route 66 decor in motel rooms.

We eat here often for Breakfast and lunch but this was our first experience with steak night. It only happens on the first Saturday of each month from 4 to 8 or until they run out of steak. They have ribeyes or an 8 oz. Fillet. There were no negatives to the meal. Service, price, we ate in the garage so the atmosphere was fun. (Right next to the world record holding Rambler) Our steaks were cooked perfect. A real pro had to be on the open flame grill to have enough char but not too much, enough pink but not to much. We are planning on not missing any steak nights in the future. read more

It's the best little hole in the wall cafe in the world. Literally. People from across the ocean have stopped in to enjoy this gem. The food and service are superb. The owners are two of the nicest folks I've ever met. The prices are great. For under 10 dollars you can get a filling meal here. A burger and your choice of fries, onion rings, fried okra....the list goes on. If thats not your thing, they have tasty salads like the Turkey Bacon Guacamole Salad. It is huge enough to feed two people for under 10 dollars as well. If you are a drifter with no money, that's ok as well. They have a giving wall to help those in need get something hot to eat. We checked online and on Yelp and found the "Hi-Way Cafe". All five adults ordered the special, "Chicken Fried Steak" with assorted sides between us. Awesome home cooking! Everything was fresh and tasted great. After stuffing ourselves we still wanted to try desserts. Once again, simply great! We had peach cobbler, sweet-potato maple cheesecake and a lemon creme pie. The service was also great. Crystal kept all our drinks full and continually checked on us to make sure everything was fine. My onion rings were burnt. They were served to me anyway. Called the server over to return these. New ones came,they were great. I boxed up the burnt ones to show the owner who was running the cash register. As I started to open box, he informed me he was aware of the content. No cash compensation was offered. This establishment was just outside of town but apparently is where to go for good food because of who was eating there. Several of Vinita's men in blue ( actually tan) were eating here tonight. The exterior isn't much to speak of but the interior is clean and decorated with all sorts of antiques and route 66 memorabilia. I ordered the route 66 burger and as my side the home made chips. The burger came out and was freshly grilled on a flat top, topped with grilled onions and mushrooms, still oozing a bit of the grease from the meat. The lettuce, tomatoe, and onions were fresh and sliced or torn by hand by the look of things. HMMM... a sign that things are done the old fashioned way that tehy should be done. The real star of the show though were the home made chips. The pile of freshly fried potatoe chips were still hot and steaming when my plate made it in fromt of me. They were what it took to push this out of the way dining fare over the top. If ever in the area then you should try this cafe for breakfast, lunch or dinner! read more

This was a great stop for lunch during holiday traveling. The staff was very friendly and our large group was seated right away. The menu was a mix of country cooking and Mexican/native foods. Burgers, fried chicken, and salads, Indian tacos, enchiladas, and tacos. There was also breakfast served all day. We had Route 66 burgers, brisket sandwich, chicken fried steak, kids chicken strips, and a kids pancake plate. Everything came out hot, crisp, and in large portions.
