Very disappointing experience. Stopped off because this looked like a fun kitschy Route 66 type stop. Unfortunately, this establishment is drive through only from Monday-Wednesday which is when we came by. Not a big deal, a bit disappointed but nothing an excellent meal can't fix and the menu looked promising However, this place is not built for drive through food. Their burgers were served in paper wrappers which within seconds the grease had gotten through and poured into my lap. The only ranch they had was salad packet ranch and they provided no containers to pour it into. Another example of how they are not set up for drive through operations. The food took a very long time to get to us and when it finally did the burger was disgusting. Had an extremely off taste like maybe the meat wasn't quite fresh and it actually made me sick. The only reason this place doesn't get a 1 star is because the kids meals came on cool cardboard cards that was really neat and the chicken nuggets were not terrible. Other than that, at least as a drive through option I can't recommend a since that is 50% of their operations it's definitely a poor mark against them as an establishment. read more

A walk down memory lane is a good thing. Still the great diner/burger joint. Still the iconic Route 66 landmark with interior decor embracing its heritage. Still terrific service and terrific burgers made by the same family. They have a new (to me) bison burger which was excellent. Moist and wonderful meaty flavor that makes bison stand out over beef. Not greasy at all. Crispy fries and tots. Thick and creamy shake. This still is NOT fast food. Burgers made when you order so expect a wait, especially if you visit at a meal rush, but trust me. I have been enjoying Ku-Ku in Miami since early 70's. Just as good as it ever was. Very consistent. Food made to order and always great.

Food was old-school fast food - the burgers weren't huge but were tasty, and the onion rings were delicious. Drive-thru line was slow, but there were a lot of cars. The attendant was friendly and our order was exactly what we asked for. I'd hoped to dine inside, but it looked like the lobby was open on an irregular basis. Stopped in to get some food on our Route 66 trip. Saw it had great reviews and a fun vibe. Place was pretty packed and everyone inside sitting down had food and there were maybe two cars in the drive thru. Waited in line for 15 min and no one helped us. The couple in front of us left and had been there longer than us and said this was "unacceptable" and I couldn't agree more. There were three people working in the kitchen and four people working the front. Two of the girls were standing around and laughing about how they couldn't remember people's orders. Saw one of the chefs in the back wipe their nose with their hand and grab a handful of fries to give to a customer which is absolutely disgusting. That was the final straw for waiting and we left. Very disappointing. We were looking forward to this place but will never come back. read more

Double giant cheeseburger, hot dog, chicken tenders, onion rings, small fries, and two large soft drinks: $28 My wife and I both commented, "good luck getting all that for $28 where we live in PA!" Granted, it's fast food quality (hence the 3 stars), but it's just as good as anything you get from a fast food chain (I'd say the flavor of the burger and chicken tenders was comparable to Burger King but no where near as greasy). Note: since this isn't a chain, you can get either Coke or Pepsi products. Which I think is a plus! It did take about 10 minutes or so for us to receive our food (which may seem like an inconvenience in today's 'drive thru/immediate delivery world') but I didn't mind it so much knowing the food was being made fresh. It's drive-thru only so there's no ambience other than the fun sign out front (attached), but the older lady attending to the drive thru was a kind and pleasant woman who provided cordial service. I'd recommend this place if you are either A) craving fast food or B) you're driving Route 66, like we were this day. But be patient and enjoy the nostalgia of a bygone era. read more

My family loves KuKu, especially when we were younger! It's great for kids because they have their kids meals come in these cute little cardboard vintage cars. Be sure you are aware of the hours! Lately, it hasn't always seemed to be as advertised (I think the owner has been dealing with some health stuff??), so I'd honestly recommend just calling first to see if they're open. I like to get the frito chili pie. Sometimes it has been better than others, but it's usually still good and filling. Fairly standard overall. For some reason I like to add their ketchup to it. I guess I like that it adds a bit extra flavor and moisture, since theirs can seem a bit of a drier type of chili pie. On my last visit, it seemed like there were more fritos than chili, so I would have liked to have a bit more of the meat and beans part. In my opinion, the ice cream is what makes KuKu's a cool spot. I love all of the flavored soft serve options, like butterscotch, cotton candy, and several more. What they do is have the ice cream part be vanilla soft serve but there's syrup neatly swirled, thanks to the machine, of the flavor you choose. If you've saved a decent amount of room, don't miss the hot fudge sundae. Sooo good! Vanilla ice cream topped with a nice and thick, flavorful hot fudge. You can also have whipped cream and nuts, which I always do. It's a respectable portion... you could probably share it with someone, but that's no fun!! ;) The only thing with ordering ice cream is if you do it as takeout, like I did on my last visit, be sure to remind them to give you your food first before the ice cream!!! We ended up sitting in the car waiting for our meals while they had already given us our sundaes... so a bit melted by the time it was all said and done. 4 stars because it seems to have a few quirks these days, but still a fun (and for me, nostalgic) spot on Route 66. read more

I always struggle with scores of 3-4 for just "decent" food worth the price. I would give this place a 4 if the wait to order and the wait for the food arrival were better. My giant burger was freshly prepared with fresh vegetables. The onion rings looked very tasty but there was no taste-very bland. The establishment was very clean, even the restroom. The owners had it since he worked there as a chain and they don't operate if he isn't in the building!! Great stop in rural Oklahoma. The building has the feel of an old school mom & pop burger shop that is a staple of the local community. Mostly drive thru with the interior only open on select days. Staff and service were excellent. We got a double giant cheese burger, double giant bacon cheese burger, small tater tot, small mozzarella sticks and a large cherry limeade for around $28. Burgers were great and made fresh to order. Limeade was great - not overly sweet as some can be - with the infamous nugget ice (for the girlies)! Great burgers and Rte 66 atmosphere at Wayland's Ku-Ku burger! The vintage sign drew is in the first time we were through here 25 years ago. The delicious burgers and experience keeps us coming back again and again. I usually get the Buffalo burger BBQ style (BBQ sauce pickles and onions). It also comes regular style (mustard lettuce tomato). Either one is delicious, so you can't go wrong ordering either one. I also add a slice of cheddar cheese to mine just because :) Tater tots are fried when you order them, and so are always crispy and delicious. Ditto the fries (regular and curly). Depending on the time of year you visit, you might get lucky and Wayland will have Fried Green Tomatoes on the menu - we lucked out and had 2 orders of those delicious FGT! Today (15 Jul 2021) the lobby is still closed for pandemic reasons. So we lined up with the rest of the folks at the drive thru and ordered there. They take and make 2 orders at a time, so everything is hot and fresh when handed through the window. Ate there on a busy Sunday afternoon. Had a couple burgers, tots and KuKu fries. The burgers and tots were good, but I wouldn't say great. The KuKu fries were waffle fries with chili, cheese, green onion, and a sour cream packet. They were delicious. The building has been there a good long time, so the layout and chairs/booths are not really designed to accommodate large crowds or bigger bodies. There are two drive thrus though, one on each side of the building. I won't go out of my way to go there again, but would eat there again if I was close. If you're going through Miami, you should stop and try it. read more

We made this location a special stop on a recent road trip through the area because of the history of Ku-Ku burger. We were shocked when we pulled up that they were still doing drive-thru only and because their food is cooked to order, it is not extremely fast. Fortunately, they did have a few picnic tables in the shade in a corner of the parking lot where we were able to eat our burger without trying to hold it in our lap in the car. The food is what saved this experience for me. I got a double Ku Ku burger with cheese. The burger was simple but amazing at the same time. The diced onion and the condiments were perfect for the size of the burger and my tastebuds were very happy with everything that was going on with the burger. The fries were also good, and I am not a big fan of fries regularly. The menu at Ku Ku burger includes a lot more than just the burgers, but that is what brought us to this unique location on old Route 66. read more

The line is long ... but it's worth it! Plus it gives you plenty of time to chat with the locals. We met so many nice and kind people while waiting in line. We even got some tips from the locals - order your burger "grilled" and be specific about what toppings you want (lettuce, pickle, onion, tomato, etc.) because they aren't necessarily included. Getting your burger "grilled" basically just means they grill your bun too - it was delicious! The owner still flips all the burgers in the restaurant kitchen ... he was back there doing his thing while we were there. Also, they have delicious homemade limeade (get it with cherry) and fried pickles. If none of these food items listed sound like your thing, don't worry, they have a large menu with options that appeal to every different kind of fast food taste. P.S. You will probably have to wait a while. It's not fast. You stand in line to order, they give you a number and then you go pick up your food. You have to ask for lids and ketchup. We found our route 66 journey running through Miami Oklahoma and decided to skip the chains and standard tex mex sprinkling the land plentiful. The decor is nothing magic but it is a nice to see the pictures and see my father reminiscent. The max seating is less than 100 and lunch gets pretty packed. Plan ahead, it takes about 15 minutes to get your meal. The fries are pretty sublime. The burgers are juicy and worth the trip. I got a fish sandwich and it was a bit lacking. The prices are top notch and cheap. I suggest getting kids the cut car meals for optimal happiness! I fall for the nostalgic factor first and foremost.
