    Mermaid themed birthday party cake
    Lauren T.

LOVE the cake that we ordered from Cece. We sent her a photo of what we wanted and she did an amazing job recreating it. She was quick to respond with any questions I had and made the entire process seamless. My daughter loved her cake - and it tasted great too! We will definitely be going back to the Cake Lady and highly recommend her for any birthday party cake orders.

Cece was so flexible and easy to work with for our wedding cutting cake! We loved that there were so many unique flavors available, without being overly sweet. We loved the look of the final product. However, when we picked up our cake, we weren't provided with an appropriately sized box, which made transportation and storage a bit challenging.

I was jazzed to try the Cake Lady. It was not a disappointment! I thought everything was easy, the two ladies were excellent to talk with, and overall magical experience!

What can I say about the Cake Lady that hasn't already been said? Her cakes are amazing and beautiful. They are light, moist, delicious, simple and gorgeous. I've had her spice cake with white chocolate buttercream at Sprocket Cafe - delicious. I've had her vanilla cake with raspberry and lemon filing and a white chocolate buttercream at Anoydyne - stellar. On the customer end, Cecelia is the sweetest woman and a very accommodating baker/business owner. I emailed her for an emergency cake for a friend's bday, giving less than her required two weeks notice. She came through! The cake she made - spice cake with white choco butter cream (I couldn't stay away) - was a hit. I would recommend the Cake Lady and Cecelia to anyone looking a cake for any event. Her prices are a little on the higher end but reasonable given the quality and the excellent taste of her product. Order a cake from her soon or stop at Sprocket Cafe or Anodyne to try her delicious cake!

This is the cake . Not like the cake I wanted

NOTE: It appears that after my review, a slew of positive reviews followed, in hopes that my negative review would be watered down, which is fine(as you can see, until I made my review the most recent was months earlier. Now there are like 5 on the same day smh) . But this is another example of how this business owner is lacking in holding HERSELF accountable for ALL customers. She should be embarrassed by the cake she sold me. Not try to have others post her good work In hopes that my review will not be considered. This is what reviews are for-for the good and the bad, then the new customer can make their own decision from there. Please continue to read about my poor experience with Cece, the Cake Lady. This was by far the worst experience with a small business owner I've ever had. I placed an order with this company for my son's golden birthday. Because we are still dealing with a pandemic, there was nothing much I could really do besides give my son a super special cake! I chose the Cake Lady because the pictures of her cakes always looked so beautifully done, so I figured a cake with her would definitely be a hit. I sent her a picture of what I wanted, she confirmed she could do it and set up a time for me to pick up the cake at 10am on January 8th. A couple of days before the pick up date, I asked her if I could switch the time to 1-2pm. She said 1-2pm worked for her. The day of pick up, Cece sent me a couple of emails and one text, that I didn't see right away, saying that she had to leave at 2pm to the latest. My husband got to the door at 2:02pm (due to parking on the east side) and sat there for a few minutes and no one was there. He called me and informed me of this, so I texted Cece (this is when I saw her text for the first time about leaving at 2pm) and I told her that my husband was there and asked will she be back at all. Because we have iPhones, I could tell she was about to respond but she didn't. I waited 20 more minutes, and no response, so I checked my email to see what she actually said there. At 1:53pm, AGAIN 1:53pm, she sent an email stating that we would have to pick up the cake the NEXT DAY in the morning. So she left before 2pm!!!! I immediately texted her back and asked if her employee could be there on the actual day because the 8th was my son's birthday not Saturday, the 9th. Then I reminded her that we agreed between 1-2pm and if this time didn't work, I would have gladly kept it at the original time of 10am. THEN she responded that she wasn't going back and forth with me(which wasn't the case, because she didn't respond to me for almost 30minutes) and that she GUESSED she would have to turn around from going to her COTTAGE to bring me my cake. I couldn't and still cant believe it. This small business owner, with whom I had never worked with before, made it seem like I was inconveniencing her AND she left her business and didn't serve her first time customer for a LEISURE TRIP!!!! She acted like she was gave some huge discount or the cake for free. This cake was $80.00 freaking dollars. when I made the comment about this not being a 'hook up' cake, she called me and said that she felt 'attacked' by me, and offended. I expressed to her that I am the customer, I should be upset. She left! Then she said that she was in front of her business for an 10 extra minutes, which is a lie because you cant park directly in front of her business. But if she WAS there, she would have seen my husband standing at her door. We went back and forth until she HUNG up on me. I didn't curse, I didn't call her any names. I definitely had my voice raised, but had every right. She was about to ruin my son's birthday for a LEISURE TRIP. She then dropped the cake off at a neutral location, which also kills me, because if she had time to all of that, then she could have waited 2 minutes. I wouldn't even be typing this review if she waited 2 WHOLE MINUTES. Actually I would have, because the cake was, by far, not to my expectations. THE CAKE The cake did not look like what I ordered. The top had visible butter knife prints. The layers were COMPLETELY uneven. The bottom and top layers were fine, but the middle two looked like the cake layers were cut on a slant and filled with frosting. SO not only was there a fiasco with getting the cake, she sold me a cake that was not fit to eat (I tried to post on google, but it appears my pictures are being flagged . If so, please search me on Facebook) I sum this up to say this- don't trust the pictures. Read all reviews. And keep in mind that all customers are not treated equal.

I have been using Cece and her amazing cake creations for 10 YEARS now!! Not only are her cakes a work of art, they are equally delicious. Any theme or idea we have, Cece runs with it and creates amazing cakes. We've had chocolate with chocolate ganache, carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, spice cake (MY fav), banana....and every time the crowd is so pleased! People who don't like cake eat her cakes! Just her buttercream alone....YUM- it's in a class all it's own. The cookies are adorable little mini works of art, too! The time and talent it takes to create these special moments for my kids is not lost on me. Cece is top notch- talented, professional, cheery, passionate, and so very kind:). She goes above and beyond for her customers, and has even squeezed me in last minute when she could when I forgot to place a cake order! Simply THE BEST. So many cakes, but I'm posting some favorites...even yesterday's most recent goldfish themed cake that I forgot to take a picture of until I was pulling the candles out, hence the little holes in it LOL! Thanks Cece!!

I had such a great experience ordering my sons first birthday cake! He had a jungle "wild one" theme. All ordering was done through email and it was super easy. Just picked what fillings and type of cake/frosting. I also sent pictures of some ideas I wanted and I was so happy with the outcome. The cake was delicious too! My favorite was the chocolate ganache filling and cheesecake buttercream together!! I highly recommend the cake lady!

Gorgeous birthday cake Cece made for a man’s birthday.

Cece exceeded all of my expectations! I ordered a cake through email communication and photo sharing since I'm not from Milwaukee but needed to get a birthday cake there. The cake was beautifully crafted, lush, and luscious. The perfectly layered carrot cake within the stunning shell was rich and had the perfect level of spice and warmth. I highly recommend having Cece, The Cake Lady, craft a cake for your special events. She is a delight to work with and a truly talented baker.

Small Carmel Cake w/White Chocolate Frosting w/sunflowers!... this was around $25. 4 layers of yummy goodness. Serves 6-8.

Not sure why I haven't written about this place sooner... maybe because I hate giving away my secret weapon / super favorite places?! I have to say this is some of the best cake ever. Moist, not too sweet cake in a variety of flavors with a light buttercream frosting in many flavors to choose from. Favorite frostings include maple and white chocolate but it's all good! Cake flavors are unique from lavender to the basics. Cakes must be pre-ordered, but it's worth the wait. Go to her website and get on the email list and she'll send you specials a few times a year for some of her holiday cakes you can order.

Discovering The Cake Lady was fate. I work downtown and walk to the Public Market often for Anodyne coffee. I noticed a beautiful cake in the window. It looked magical. Four layers-two vanilla two chocolate. Between the vanilla layers was a red filling and between the chocolate layers seemed to be-could it be?! More chocolate! I must have this magical cake. I did. I got a piece. I waited til I went back to the office as I was already going over on time for my break. Once I was safely in my cube I dug in. It was amazing. Heavenly. Fast forward from winter to spring as I'm planning my Besties bridal shower. So many details the games, the food but most importantly: THE CAKE. The most important part. I instantly remembered that heavenly cake from The Cake Lady. I immediately put on my Nancy Drew hat and sleuthed to the internet where I found her email. I described the cake to her and she knew right away what I was talking about. I asked for that cake to feed 45 people with roses with an ombré beginning with a pale pink to an ivory. It was beautiful and delicious. At the bridal shower there were gasps and many ooo's. One bridesmaid asked for the contact information and type of cake for her next event which she doesn't even know when that is. Hands down excellent cake. I can't wait for the next special event so I can have more of this magical creation!!

It tastes every bit as good as it looks!

The Cake Lady is the best in the business. I have ordered from Cecelia for years and she always knocks it out of the park! She can reproduce every vision I have and always exceeds my expectations. Not to mention she is an absolute gem to work with! I highly recommend her for your custom cake or cookies.

I never had a chance to try the macarons, and honestly only found this one because the place that I normally get cinnamon rolls from when I went to treat myself was closed for a holiday break, so I decided to use yelp and branch out and find something new. I was not disappointed! I also tried a ham and cheese, croissant, which was delicious, but I will definitely be back for the cinnamon rolls. They also sell day old cinnamon rolls at a discounted rate, and I am eager to try those as well, because I love the idea of food not going to waste, saving money, and I heat up my cinnamon rolls anyway so I bet it would still be delicious! If not, I am happy to pay full price for the fresh kind, especially knowing that the bakery helps support community members with food insecurity (see photo). They have a sourdough membership, and even though I make my own sourdough (with mixed results), I believe I will try this just so that I can experience all the different varieties they create. I think it will be fun to have something like this to look forward to a couple times a month.

So we came here one Sunday and got a pound of ham, cheddar cheese and onion rolls. We also had one chocolate croissant and a sprinkled donut for some sweetness in our lives. When we got home she put together these sacred traditions like it was Christmas morning and I had to patiently wait to be told to dig in. Well, not only did I dig in but the ROLLS--they were so crunchy on the outside with the perfect amount of onion and soft/chewy on inside. It went so well with the ham and cheddar that I literally drooled after my first bite for a second. I only use one piece of cheese for two slices of ham, I found that while I might be marrying a Cheese Head, I am slowly becoming one and two was too many. I was also told that it was a cardinal sin to put my BBQ kettle chips in my roll for extra crunch and favor. It didn't need it but I thought why not put everything on my plate together. I'd go back just for the ham rolls on Sunday--if my fiancée would let me lol. The pastries though? The croissant was almost spot on to the ones we had in Paris. I could only tell a slight difference in the layers and butter but it isn't important. This is a gem of a place and while it takes a minute to order and go--it's TOTALLY WORTH IT!

The first event that occurred was when I went to Jen's to simply grab a few pieces of candy because I didn't have too much change on me. I grabbed some stuff and a few pieces I got were a bit over the amount I had. Instead of kindly saying that an older woman that's always at the register told me,"If you know you don't have enough money don't bring all of this up here" I found it rude but I assumed she had a bad day. The second interaction happened today. I came in with a few cents in my pocket to pay for some candy and leave like I always do I go to Jen's all the time. I pay , and I'm always nice. She followed me around , hovered over me when I tried getting what I needed , stared me down as soon as I came in , and I am an African American woman. She stared me down and when I went to the register she asked me if I had anything in my pockets when I went to ask her how much money in change I had. I was flabbergasted. She stared me up and down and made me feel unwelcome. I simply put what I already grabbed back and left. I did say,"No offense but if you're gonna think I'm stealing then I won't shop here." And I left. They're always in a rude mood when there and almost never nice. I went back later just for an explanation as that's a local store. They both said it's because they thought I put things in my pocket I told her I didn't and she shrugged her shoulders and rolled her eyes. I asked why she would think that I always pay. I didn't get anything only that she thought I was stealing. I don't know if it's because I'm African American but this environment makes me feel unsafe due to the energy , the glares , and the rude comments.

Go to hell **I've updated again based on this "businesswoman's" response to the review. She claims she was verbally assaulted. I've attached my email to her stating I was disappointed. If anything I believe telling someone to go to hell is a bit more insulting and maybe I should feel verbally assaulted? This lady really is a class act See original review below: Let me start by saying that the prices displayed on the website are absolutely fictitious. Secondly Judi was very short and rude in her correspondence as soon as I began asking clarifying questions. I requested a quote for one of the most simple designs on her website, from a page that stated that an 8" cake will serve up to 25 people and begins at $54.99. I've attached the picture from the website for reference. All I asked to be changed was the color of the accent icing from blue to pink and silver to gold. When she responded she quoted an initial quote of 20 servings at $75 and 30 servings at $95 (on the website a 10" cake serves up to 38 and starts at $76.99). When I inquired as to why the price jumped $20 she only responded with "My pricing is based on added decorative details that are added to the cake. Please advise." ... okay... so I confirmed we were talking about the same cake and then asked how much it would be without the bottle and pacifier, literally the only two pieces of decoration. She said to subtract $10 from her quotes, again not trying to explain anything. Just very short and rude. So basically, a plain iced cake is $10 more than the quote on the website. I wonder what type of product you would get for the actual price on the website, perhaps simply the cake batter? I'm so sick of businesses gauging their customers for every little thing. Is it really too much to ask that they have some integrity and actually respect their customers or potential customers?

Hats off to their host for being friendly and even a little entertaining and I like that you can order coffee at the register area and drink it while you wait. Too bad you can't get a cocktail out there. The menu sounded great and we were ravenous so we were excited to order. By the time we were seated we were limited to about 40 minutes to get to a ticketed event, all in. I told that to our waitress so she could pace the meal accordingly. While I understand that she can't control the kitchen time, I don't think she showed any expediency or attention to my statement. Spoiler alert - we were late. Two of us ordered the biscuits to start with jam. I was happy to try them and they were good. My coffee based martini hit the spot, but it was spilled a little when it hit the table and our server didn't say anything or wipe it off. My mom liked her bloody Mary and it was decent. When our food came I was immediately disappointed by the appearance. My chilaquiles looked like they had sat under a heat lamp for ages - the egg was dried and over firm. My chips were spicy, but 100% soggy and nasty. My black beans were - meh. Not a good dish overall. My mom actually didn't find fault with her Honeypie Benedict. I tried the hollandaise and it was fine. My cousin did not enjoy her Hopple Popple skillet at all. (Potatoes, bacon, caramelized onion, mushroom, bell pepper, cheddar, two scrambled farm eggs) She found it difficult to find any egg, as it was apparently shrunk into tiny bits. The potatoes were like fries and it was overall bland. Not a winner. We certainly won't be back. The dishes don't live up to the interesting descriptions of them and the hype seems to be from an earlier, better time for this restaurant.
