This is the best place to get candy in town! They have the usual, traditional, old school candy that we & our grandparents grew up with! But they also have cool, weird designed candy. Like aliens, the Simpsons etc. They also have a adult section, candy made for Bachelorette & Bachelor party's. Then of course a lot of breaking bad merch, including something I didn't know! YOU CAN take a picture in breaking bad gear & take a picture with cutouts of the boys, while holding candy meth. It was so fun & awesome!! A must go! And tell all your friends, so they know! Expensive and small but a fun little stop by especially for breaking bad fans :) I'd recommend this if you are in the area, have a sweet tooth, enjoy the show, want to make sure to hit up the main tourist spots. I finally went to go see what the bug fuss is about. It was okay looked like an old whole on the wall establishment. They don't have much selections. They have the usual chocolate, dark, white dipped crispy marshmallow bars. Nothing out of the ordinary. Everything else seems a bit generic to me, not really "made" by the owner. They have men who follow you around even though the store is awfully small...? Kind of weird and uninviting. I took my 6 year old to buy "gourment" candy since I never really give her sweets. And nothing was really good looking. I'm fairly disappointed in this store since there is a big hype over nothing... and very very pricey for stuff the don't even make on their own. read more

She was soo friendly and allowed my husband to take a photo with the "meth" dressed with and apron and hat just like Walt. Cool place, helpful people and good history with the Breaking Bad Series. We stopped in as it was mentioned on our Lonely Planet Breaking Bad driving tour. The people were happy to see us and talk about their involvement in the series including creating the 'blue meth' candy props for the show. We bought some candied 'meth' along with various pieces of fudge which were all good. They even have a place in front where you can dress up as Heisenberg and take pictures. Definitely worth the stop if you are a BB fan plus their candy is good. read more

Stay out my territory, at least that's how I felt when i visited here! Heard they sell all kinds of breaking bad goodies and before we left Albuquerque, I wanted to come here. I'm glad I did. Now parking here is not what everyone would wish for on their Christmas it is but it's doable! Make sure when the GPS says turn right, DON"T! It's a one way street and the GPS sometimes doesn't follow the law. When you come here you will be greeted with breaking bad memorabilia including stills, autographs from the beloved show! Mark was really awesome, he spotted the love in my eyes for Breaking Bad and took us into the back where they had blue "meth" in a tray which for the record is just rock candy but looks awfully similar to the one they used in the show. They had a cutout of Walter White and Jessie (yeah b****!) and gave us the Heisenberg hat and glasses to take pictures with! Before we left, we made sure to grab some bags of the good stuff and I grabbed a couple of magnets from the show. They have many more items and even have a map to where everyone lived! Including Walter's house and jessie's house. And for those of you wondering, yes they do have tours that will take you to these places if you would like a more guided tour! Super friendly guy behind the counter. Offered samples, which is always nice. There's a large selection of chocolates but almost all of them had "bloom" on them, indicating they'd either been frozen previously or had sat there awhile. It doesn't really affect the taste and I thought the truffles were good, though a little on the spendy side for the size. The licorice (pretty good selection though they were out of many kinds) was very fresh. I did buy a carmel marshmallow which tasted old. Nice for a quick stop and a couple chocolates. read more

This place is so cool! I just went today while visiting. The candy was delicious! There were samples out when I walked in so I had the joy of sampling some fudge and other sweets. If you're a fan of the show Breaking Bad, I would highly recommend coming here. You can buy the candy that looks like the Blue Sky merchandise on the show. The Candy Lady is an eclectic candy shop with both colorful and traditional sweets and treats. This candy shop is the hub for all things Breaking Bad. The Candy Lady provided the blue crystal on the first few seasons that was used on the show of Breaking Bad. We even got to meet The Candy Lady herself and the gentlemen that runs the shop with her. The gentleman was so funny and gave us yummy samples and took us to the back room for photo ops with Walt and Jesse life size cardboard cutouts. There we got to witness first hand the "blue" candy they provided to the tv series Breaking Bad and got to dress the part of Heisenberg for our photos. It was the silliest thing ever, and we laughed the entire time. The Candy Lady shop embraces all things Walter White( the infamous Heisenberg) Jesse, Gus, Los Pollos Hermanos etc. They have a lot of novelty items for fans of the she including souvenirs and shirts. You can buy little shot glasses of the blue rock candy. Yes, most items glamorize societal no-no's, but you'll be fine if you just have an attitude of maturity and a little humor. We had so much fun at this candy shop and we'll definitely be back. Make sure you get a little bad goodie bag when you visit. They have some really original and fun candy and chocolates. read more

Went here today on a self-guided Breaking Bad tour--what a fantastic stop! The owner & employees could not have been any nicer to us. They showed us their prop Heisenberg hats, sunglasses & (candy) blue meth, then encouraged us to "get into costume" & then take photos in front of their "Los Pollos Hermanos" sign. What fun! I came to this store after researching stores selling breaking bad merchandise in Albuquerque. First I was angry because we got there 15 min early before the shop was supposed to open, 11am as the website & Yelp stated. And then upon arriving at the store, the sign stated they didn't open til 12?! We came back 50 min. later to see that the shop was open... don't know what that was about? Anyway I was excited to see some breaking bad memories & have a great experience in the shop. But what I was greeted with was, overpriced shirts, ($25-$30) and a rude employee. I was looking at the shirts before I bought it, so I opened it by removing the rubber band. And the employee didn't like that because I was inspecting the shirt. I did this becauseI had seen them some were shirts stained with unknown stains & paint stains. My mom told me was shaking his head at me and rolling his eyes at me, the employee was a male, short, brown complexion and heavy set. I would personally never shop there after the poor customer service skills, he never said hello to us or can I help you find anything. And also because there 2 other shops there that sell the same shirts and they are half the price. The candy that is behind the glass case also looks old and tasteless. If you're looking for authentic and fairly priced breaking bad merchandise go to Southwestern Handcraft the man who runs the shop is nice, friendly, and his items are all discounted! If you're a Breaking Bad fan, this is an obvious stop for you, as the official suppliers of the Blue Meth in the show. They have different areas that you can take photos with. If you are a candy fan in general, this should also be an obvious stop for you as their candy in general is also delicious. They have samples of their fudge out to try including chili infuse fudge (not my thing, but my parents enjoy it). If you're bringing your kids here, there is an ADULT section that is not partitioned off, so there are...inappropriate for children candies. The staff is very friendly and will chat with you when they greet you. Worth a stop! read more

The Candy Lady remains one of most storied businesses in Albuquerque, it's something of an institution, and a quick browse of the goods tells the partial story. It's certainly worth a visit, tourist and local alike. There are more than a few "getting to know you" moments that come along with a move to a new city, and an eyeful of the phallic adult sweets that this shop carries certainly qualifies as a memorable one for me. It's certainly not a novel concept--selling sexually suggestive confections--but it seems like it nails a perfect definition of Naughty, and over the years I've met more than a few people who've really geeked out about the idea of sucking on a hard candy something or other. There are, of course, all of the bells and whistles of a fabled candy store available around here, as well: chocolate, fudge, brittle, licorice, glazed fruit-flavored gummies. Most of it is house-made and you'll smell the stuff drying on baking sheets in the back, and they also carry a few specialties from other parts of the world. The goods fit beautifully in Old Town, where the average bear isn't looking for gourmet honey; these treats are sort of old fashioned and generally conventional, save a few chile-infused recipes and, well, you know... the meth candy. Ah, yes, the Blue Ice (and you thought the adult candy was controversial). First, it should be noted that the folks from Breaking Bad approached the owner of this shop to produce the infamous sky-blue crystalline prop, so regardless of your take on the tasteless/tasteful issue (like, is it honestly okay to let kids devour this stuff?), you can't blame 'em for looking to turn a quick buck. No, it may not shed the best light on the city, but then, that was the brilliance of the show; it presented every angle: the picturesque surroundings, down-to-earth people, comfortable quality of living and uglier-than-hell underbelly of the 505. If I have any qualms with The Candy Lady's coattail-riding efforts to squeeze the last drops of blood out of Walter White's pork pie fedora, they have everything to do with the cheap-o hats and lame "I bought this Breaking Bad shirt in Albuquerque" t-shirts they pimp alongside the sweets. I'm sure these bring in a few extra bucks, but in my humble opinion, they're really hokey. The show, and Mr. Cranston himself, deserve better. read more

I'm super torn between a three and a four, but I think for the sake of the bizcochitos, a four star is in order. PROS 1) Bizcochitos, which is a variation of the Mexican wedding cookie, is brilliant and so good. I'm not sure if they're just really popular in New Mexico in general, but since coming home (and devouring my bag of cookies) I've thought about those cookies often. 2) The nice man working there who took my picture in the Heisenburg getup 3) The different varieties of sweets they have CONS 1) Vastly overpriced BB material. I can't swallow spending thirty five - forty dollars on a t-shirt. Makes me die inside a little. 2) When asked if they bake the sweets every day or how often they're fresh, I sensed some hesitation. This may not be a con, more like a general observation (I observe a lot), but it makes me curious what goes in to the making of the sweets. They're kind of just sitting there, with plastic wrap, waiting to be consumed. When? Where? With what ingredients? These thoughts swarmed my mind. I'm looking forward to getting more bizcochitos the next time I'm here. Yum. read more

As others have said they were the ones who actually made the Blue Sky meth prop for the show so if you're a fan you can't miss buying some from the real life source. We were staying at Hotel Albuquerque and figured we had to come find the blue meth candy since we are fans of Breaking Bad. The walking route mapquest took us was a round about way but it is literally across the street from the hotels back exit. It's a tiny little shop and the owner was very friendly and did a smooth drug transaction with us ;) $1 for a little bag of blue rock candy that is quite tasty! Quite the rip off considering it costs her pennies to make each bag but whatever, it was funny to buy and will be even funnier when I send the "drugs" in the mail to my friends...along with a business card of hers just in case! The lady had Heizenberg sunglasses and a Heizenberg hat so people could take pics with it on which I thought was cute (see my pic I uploaded). We didnt spend much time in the store but did check out the dirty section and yes, it was very dirty candy! I took some pics but I dont think yelp would approve of them, haha. read more

We stopped by The Candy Lady while visiting Old Town mostly because we are Breaking Bad fans. This store devotes a large space up front to the show selling t-shirts, hats, blue sugar candy "meth" and even pez dispensers featuring the main characters. You'll find other stuff too- lots of varieties of fudge, assorted chocolates and an adult section. The staff working was friendly enough and we even chatted with the Candy Lady herself. We chose some green chili fudge and chocolates. Everything was good (it IS chocolate, after all!) but nothing was knock my socks off good. If you are a BB fan you'll definitely want to stop by. They will take your picture holding fake cash while wearing Walt's hat and shades. You can pretend to sell the blue sugar meth. A little odd? Yes, but still a fun stop. If you plan on traveling with the blue stuff they sell it in little brown bags with the candy lady's business card and label adhered to the outside. I just received a delicious assortment of candy and chocolate treats from my husband as an early Valentine's Day gift. OMG! The chocolate covered strawberries, the Kahlua truffle, the espresso truffle, the dark chocolate, the milk chocolate, the green chile fudge, the peanut butter cups that also come in the truffle variety, the caramel, the hard candies! AND all the sugar free ones were delicious too! How is that possible!? Delicious sugar-free sweets! I have to go try all the other flavors of fudge and hard candies... I'm hooked! We moved to town 4 months ago and heard a visit to the Candy Lady was a must. We didn't realize the Breaking Bad hook was the reason people visited and purchased 5 different dark chocolate covered items. And it wasn't good. Maybe the the batch of dark chocolate they used for the peanut butter cups, caramel (terrible), marshmallow and toffee (really terrible) was just a bad batch (because the nonpareils were at least ok). The cashew brittle was ok (3 stars). The staff was incredibly nice, but we paid $20 for chocolates that we are not excited about eating. read more

as another reviewer noted, this place is a tourist trap and being the tourist myself, my friend took me here while we were walking around old town. this is a small and cute family owned shop. as for the chocolates themselves, there is a decent selection but the taste is nothing to diiie for. however, the fudge with the different chili's as well as the peanut brittle with chili (typical of NM) are very tasty. as a tourist there, i did find the chocolate/chili combo unique but you can probably find a lot of this stuff at other gift/candy shops around town. the "adult" section was cute and it did a little flavor to the place. i bought a mini private part as a gag gift for my sister. she enjoyed it. overall, if you're in old town and need a few treats while shopping for souvenirs, you might as well just stop by the candy lady. read more

I've desperately wanted to stop at The Cady Lady since moving to ABQ and I finally made it a few days ago. I'm sorry to say I was disappointed because I wanted to like this place. The selection of products is lacking and it's extremely exspensive for the quality. I purchased two tiny pieces of chocolate covered fruit, two choc. rice crispies and a bag of rock candy and it was almost $20. Even the employee who helped me seemed shocked at the price. The chocolate had a weird aftertaste when I finally tried it and again, the quality was not what I would have expected from a store with such a reputation. read more
