Definitely one of the better brunch options in NEPA, with fun, quirky, eclectic decor. They do NOT take reservations and it can get busy, but we waited 5-10 minutes for a table for 2 on a recent busy holiday Friday around 1p. The extensive menu features a variety of brunch options, salads, and sandwiches. Their veggie options are a bit limited, but definitely present (ex: falafel salad, avocado toast), and many of the dishes feature unique combinations and homemade sauces/aiolis. I landed on the Smoked Salmon Avocado toast, which was fine. I was disappointed that it seemed to be made with prepackaged guacamole/avocado (I'm sure for cost reasons), and the bread was pretty thick so it was challenging to eat. Flavor-wise, it was solid, but I think I'll try one of the other, more creative options next time. My cousin chose their turkey sandwich and seemed to enjoy. It was large enough that she took half home! Our food arrived before our matcha lattes, so we wound up asking for to-go cups. Finally got the opportunity to try Canning house and I was not disappointed. Loved the art and eclectic design outside and inside the restaurant. The restaurant is large and airy with an extensive menu of delicious options. My mom had two eggs, toast, and bacon and I had the breakfast rito which I was somewhat weary about, however, it was delicious! The eggs were fluffy with just the perfect blend of flavor with copper sharp cheese, maple syrup, and sriracha aioli with smashed avocado and bacon. Both meals were large and filling, I couldn't finish mine and it was even good to heat up later which is not always the case with breakfast items. Hidden gem! Driving along 80 and wanted a spot for take out lunch with a little walk and this was beyond perfect. It's an artsy spot in a multi-business building. We were able to order online and pick up later. Our fries were crispy and sandwiches delicious. The toddlers raved about the pancake bites too. We started with the cauli-wings. Lightly fried and very yummy with 3 different sauces. Hubby and I both had burgers which were very good and I asked for a side of fruit, which had lots of different berries and some melon. The waitress was attentive and came when we needed her. Believe it or not I actually DO recommend this place. Recently had to make a trip up to Wilkes Barre for some personal business. I googled "breakfast" and this place was closest......I looked at the pictures posted online and decided to give it a try. For one, if you don't know where your going - like me - then this place is going to be hard to find (like it was for me). I'm driving around in the parking lot swearing at my navigation because it was telling me I was there but I can't see a darn restaurant. I get out the car, walk around a bit and see the artwork on the side of the building. Kooky place! It's inside of some type of co-opt building? Best way to describe it from an outsider's viewpoint. I ask for single seating NOT at the bar and they easily accommodated me. Wasn't super busy but it was nicely packed. The girl up front gave me TWO drink menus and their special menu.... When I first sat down and took a look, my initial thought was, "eff this place. It's ridiculous". The waitress explained that I was inadvertently given two drink menus but I should have been given an actual menu. She rectified the situation. I took a look at the ACTUAL menu and thought, "eff this place". All I wanted was a traditional AMERICAN breakfast. Pancakes, omelettes, hash brown and all I read is a bunch of fru-fru nonsense. I head to the bathroom thinking about how much of a friggin redneck I've become while laughing at the thought. So I order the breakfast bowl option because it seemed close to something I would have ordered at a regular diner. I gotta say.... great job! The beer cheese adds a phenomenal flavor profile and the portion was MORE than fair! I added sausage AND bacon (with an upcharge) but it was worth it. Welcome to today's video, I am at a place I never had been to before, welcome to The Canning House, a unique bistro type of not so much a restaurant but not really a diner. It's a place where if you are an artist, you can show off your work. My niece painted a door on the second floor as you will see in this video. I ordered the "Canning Cuban" which has black forest ham, braised cab short rib, Dijon mustard, house pickles, and Swiss cheese on buttered sourdough bread. This also came with a side of fries. The fries were nice and hot, and they even gave you a side of ketchup. The sandwich (Sando) as it's listed was delicious, the mustard combined with all the other flavors worked perfectly together. This was great tasting and definitely worth getting again. The staff was amazing, very welcoming. I was in the area for work, and I am so glad I tried this spot out. The curb appeal, as well as the indoor aesthetic, were swanky as heck. We love it here. We've been here one previous time and it was fantastic. It's one of those places where the food was so good, you hope it wasn't a one trick pony and let me tell you, it was not. Food was still amazing. The service has always been a plus. You're greeted when you come in, there's different seating styles and the decorations and style of the place is hipster modern. Our two waitresses this time and the time before were on point, came enough to check in but not too often where you're in the middle of a bite exposed lol. One thing not photographed was my Arnold Palmer iced tea which was delicious. We were 2 hours from home on a long road trip and wanted to eat a late lunch. We discovered the Canning House - it looked unique ... Boy was it ever.... In a good way! First off it is behind the eXp building and buried but the cool artwork makes it stand out initially... The food was impressive ... Wife had a Reuben - she is very picky on Reuben's and she enjoyed it. I had the chicken wrap and it was like a chicken salad inside a wrap croutons and all. Very tasty. The fries are soft and have a different kind of light seasoning. The mango peach kombucha juice was very good and this is one of the few places to serve Mexican coke. I decided to go here to get dinner, it wasn't too packed so it was nice. I got chicken and waffles to go. The ambiance was really nice, especially being able to walk around and see different shops. One of the guys who works there was super nice, but as we stood around it seemed like the employees were annoyed with us. Especially this younger lady with glasses, she had an attitude and it was uncomfortable. Going home I got my food and I wasn't surprised to see this item stuck to my waffles.. it was something hairy. I don't even know. I decided to eat the food anyway (smh) and it just wasn't great. Dry and flavorless chicken, soggy waffles, and overall just not great food. I would have had a better review but considering some of the employees just seemed inconvenienced for my friend and I ordering food.. it was yuck. The only bright side is the male worker let us buy scoops of ice cream because they do milkshakes and the ice cream was super yummy! Firstly, I'd like to apologize for being such a loyal follower of Natalie since the boochfam days, being on Yelp (Elite no less!) and not giving her longstanding gem of a restaurant a review. Well, here it is and luckily I still had some photos on my phone saved from previous visits. ;-) The Canning House has been around for almost a decade now. It inspires me of many of the several mom and pop diner establishments that used to populate the corners of NEPA, now closed due to retirement or economic reasoning. The Canning House is locally owned by a local young woman named Natalie that used to bottle her own kombucha before breaking into a full fledged restaurant. It's quite a giant step, but much like her kombucha which is still available for purchase in both the restaurant and to go shop sealed in their original bottles, the restaurant just exuberates pure love and light in a restored industrial building complex. The menu is American diner fare with a modern twist. I'd be inclined to shoot for five stars if there were more plant based options available. They also do not take reservations, and are walk-in friendly. read more

I have frequented the Canning House for a few years. I've always had good food and pretty good service. Unfortunately, today, I met 3 others for lunch. The food was good. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered. Our waiter was good. I can never finish my meal so I requested a to go box. During the time I was paying my bill and finishing up my drink, I forgot to pick up my to go box. I may have been gone for 5 minutes when I remembered so I went back in to ask for my leftovers box. The one girl working stated that unfortunately it had been thrown in the garbage. I questioned the timing as I had been gone for 5 minutes. And, yes, it was entirely my fault that I forgot to grab it off of the table when I left. I asked the girl if there was someone else that they could ask what could be done & she stated she would go and find the manager. Magically approximately 8 minutes later, the girl showed up with my box of leftovers. I opened the lid and it HAD obviously been tossed into the garbage as it was all over the inside of the box. I stated to her "so, it was thrown into the garbage" and she said no we found it on the back shelf. Don't get me wrong, my fault that I didn't take my container with me, however, please don't lie to me & magically dig the box out of the garbage and hand it to me and state that it was found on the back shelf. This should have been handled very differently. Very dissappointed with today's experience. read more

This is one of the those places you find driving cross country you wish were in your home town. The place is huge and has so many little shops connected. It is in the back of the parking lot and worth it when you find it. The staff is friendly and the food is great. We had a Rubin and the corned beef was obviously made in house and was fabulous. The French dip grilled cheese had big chunks of short rib with caramelized onions - so yummy. The house made chips and fries were also awesome. Sorry we ate the food too quick for photos. read more

So glad we decided to make reservations for my sister's birthday (1/15/23 @11am). Our waiter (we forgot her name!) was super helpful when we asked about items on the menu. She made sure our water cups were always filled and kept coming back to ask if we were doing alright. She made our whole experience amazing. I ordered the breakfast bagel sando. You can definitely share this with someone if you don't have a huge appetite. I also ordered the matcha latte. It could have been a little sweeter but overall had the matcha taste. The interior of the restaurant is really trendy and different than what I'm used to seeing in the area. It was a refreshing change of scenery from the chain restaurants nearby. When we got there, there was about a 45 min wait which took longer than that. Luckily we were able to walk around the shops and stopped at their coffee shop while we waited. They did only have 1 coffee barista but someone else tried to come in to take orders as well. We kept having to go check on the table because of how long it was taking. By the time we were seated, the place cleared out significantly. The hostess thanked us for our patience and the waitress came over quickly to give us waters and take our order. The odd thing was that one person in the group ordered a salad and that was the thing that took the longest to come out. We had to remind the waitress twice about it. The food was decent but nothing spectacular. I think the place has potential especially with it being unique to the area but could use some tweaking. read more

Service was pretty slow, which is why I couldn't completely give the experience a 5/5 stars. It took about 15 minutes for the waitress to even come over and introduce herself and give me water. I understand she probably was busy, but other customers around me (who had gotten there after me) where at least given water and their drink orders by their waiters well before me. As far as my meal, I wanted something pretty basic so I ordered the 900 Classic and the Bee-LT sandwhich to go for lunch later in the day. The 900 Classic was a basic two egg, sourdough toast, bacon plate and freshly squeezed orange juice on the side. It was pretty good and just what I was in the mood for. I was most impressed by their house made jam. It was delicious! And tasted just like mashed up grapes. I wish I could've taken a jar home with me. I also tried the house made raspberry ice tea which was cool and refreshing. I'd like to come back here and try more of their house made drinks.
