I was looking for a local restaurant on a Monday evening and Joseph's was open. It was a rainy evening and quiet. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. I ordered the Chicken Marsala. Being chilly and rained I got the soup instead of the salad. It was a chicken and rice soup that was very tasty. The bread came out freshly baked (so good) with olive oil. The Chicken Marsala and pasta was plated beautifully with a great presentation. The Chicken Marsala was tasty but not as tender as I am use to. The pasta was cooked just right for me not over cooked as I have had from other restaurants. Over all a very nice dinner. read more

Really had high hopes based on the reviews, but wow... will not return. Ordered an entree - that, according to menu - came with bread and soup or salad. We chose the soup. They charged us $4.95 extra for it. Do not get bread. The pasta was in a puddle of pasta water (sadly, no pic, but chef husband was appalled). It was somehow both too oily and too wet at the same time. $2.95 for a glass of carbonated water off the gun. Red wine served chilled (???). Great service - friendly waitstaff. Made us feel very welcome after a long day. Instead of the usual garlic knots or rolls, we had a lovely small loaf of bread that you could pull apart. Obviously that it was made from scratch. my veal piccata was perfect - lightly breaded with a wonderful lemony sauce. my cocktail was one that they weren't familiar with but they looked it up and made it for me. I really should have left a review sooner. I have been to Joseph's a bunch of times whether to dine in or for take out and they do not disappoint. The food is top notch but the service is OUTSTANDING! Steven is so nice, friendly, attentive and funny! I come from a family of dog lovers so the fact that you can bring your pup and eat outside is a major plus. And when we went last time, it was heated and so nice. We sat on the outside and Steven put an umbrella up for us and of course brought out some water and food for my sister's dog. Also, I'm a vegan and I'm able to eat at Joseph's!! Vegan options are rare in NEPA so to find one so close to home is awesome. Their cauliflower pizza is out of this world delicious. I get it without cheese and add toppings and they don't cheap out like many places do. I've had the pizza more than once and it's the best I've had. Other dishes my family has tried and liked: meatball parm, eggplant parm, chicken parm, randini panini (customized), round, square pizza, et c. Joseph's is a hidden (yet not so hidden -right on MAIN St.) gem! First time at Joseph's. Steve the manager very friendly and took time to explain Joseph's to us as we told him our first time. Atmosphere felt like We were in a wine cellar - decorative and pleasant. We ordered unsweet tea and upon refills brought over a small pitcher of more tea - NICE TOUCH! My wife and I ordered panini sandwiches. She got the Beefy Boy and I ordered the Reuben. The order came with a bowl of hot and tasty creamy chicken soup. The sandwiches came with fries. My wife and I both felt the sandwiches were delicious. They had plenty of meat on them and were right off the grill! The fries were homemade and also fresh. Definitely recommend this place for lunch - seen others eating breakfast and was told they are great as well. We will be back to try dinner as the menu looks very good and Italian based. Pretty good breakfast spot. We ordered an omelette with ham, cheese and peppers and two eggs over easy with toast. The omelette was better than expected. I'd actually say it was excellent. The home fries are just ok. I've had much better but also have had worse. The service was adequate - about what you'd expect from a diner. I would definitely go back for breakfast or lunch. Great atmosphere most of the dishes are very good however the tomato sauce is horrible it's clearly not made at the restaurant and bought in also the gnocchi which were supposedly home made were defiantly frozen but everything else here is very good Edit: Cane back six months later and have to add to my review, I had the chicken Calabrese with was good tasting but swimming in oil so much so that I couldn't eat the peppers that were in my dish. My fiancé had penne Alfredo with shrimp which had almost zero sauce on it and again was tasty but disappointing and maybe had four shrimps, at Twenty dollars or so for each plate not a value at all. I pass this place by every day and I finally stopped in the other day for lunch. I was very impressed. Great menu, great service. And, a TV at every booth so you don't have to watch everyone else's game. But what impressed me most was the food. Granted, this was my first visit, but on the basis of this visit I will return. I had a tasty, juicy, huge burger and glorious hand cut fries. I have no idea why anyone would bother with junk food when this is available for the same price. And you can order ahead and take out, so you can't claim to save time with the junk. I've heard that their pasta is excellent, so my next visit (soon) may be for dinner. The only dog friendly restaurant in the area. We brought our puppy with us and she was greeted with a bowl of water, large bowl of roast beef, & smiles from all the staff. We had the calamari appetizer which was excellent and large. For entrees we had the pretzel crab cake and veal saltimboca. Both were excellent. We enjoyed our meals and our puppy enjoyed her roast beef for the next few days. I would definitely recommend Joseph's with or without your pet. We're definitely going back. read more

Don't waste your time. I ordered seafood fradiablo, which had 3 clams, 3 pieces of shrimp, & scallops from a can- the sauce was watery. My friend & husband ordered the crab cakes which were dry. My other friend had pretzel encrusted chicken which he said was good. 1 out of 4. They offered me dessert because I didn't enjoy my dinner, nice. However the brownie was as hard as a rock!! This is my first yelp review, and I signed up specifically to share our awful experience at this restaurant. My partner and I were very excited to try this place out since we heard there was a new chef and changes were made. It was a hugely disappointing. It was not busy when we got there on a Friday night, however we were waiting for the hostess to come back to the station to seat us for 10 minutes. Eventually a waitress just seated us. As she showed us our table the hostess showed up and handed us menus. We asked if we could sit outside and she said there were no tables. Within 15 minutes two couples came in and asked to sit outside and she brought them to tables on the patio. We let it go thinking she must be new. We both ordered wine. The wine tasted very off, as if it had turned. The food was the worst part. We ordered grilled calamari as a starter and it was extremely chewy, overcooked, drowning in oil, and tasteless. The side salad with our entrees were a disgrace. The 5 or 6 lettuce pieces were thrown on a small dish and were brown. I ordered a ribeye medium rare and it was the worst steak I have ever had. It was grey, extremely chewy, and dry. It seemed like it must have been previously frozen. The marinara sauce on the side of pasta was very watery and again unseasoned. My partner ordered the panko encrusted tuna with wasabi sauce. It was extremely oily and cold. It tasted almost like frozen breaded fish you can get at the grocery store.The wasabi sauce tasted like salad dressing. The hostess came to take our plates away and asked if we wanted boxes since a lot of our food was left. We told her the problem with the food and she just smiled, chuckled, and said sorry. There was no follow up. We couldn't wait to just pay and leave. The only good thing was that our waitress was pleasant. Maybe we ordered the wrong things or went on an off night. Started the morning thinking of a spot to get some breakfast with my kid and wife. Entering Joseph's the atmosphere was nice. Our server was nice, but very neglectful of keeping up with tables. Our drinks sat empty, and we waited an hour for our food and the place was not even busy! And the food was mediocre at best. We will absolutely not be back, and I personally had a hard time even breaking out my wallet to pay the bill. It was absolutely not worth my time, money or mental capacity to deal with. read more

Renovated and new chef!! If you're from the area, Joseph's is now home to the chef from Gubbios that was in Dunmore. You can find the infamous pretzel chicken and pretzel crab cakes on the menu here which are the same as at Gubbios. They have an outdoor dog-friendly patio too. This place was recently remodeled and the interior has truly become a pleasant site. They also have a new chef, who I believe used to be a chef at the former Gubbio's. I took my mother out for dinner (she likes low key places with a nice ambiance) and we were greeted promptly at the door and seated without any wait. After looking through the menu for a few minutes, I ordered the seafood fra diablo/diavolo and my mom ordered the veal marsala. My side salad had a wonderful creamy Italian dressing and my mother's had a very thick bleu cheese in which she stated numerous times was the best-tasting bleu cheese she has ever had (our waitress seemed to agree with her assessment). As for our entrees, I was pleased with mine. I ordered mine with a spicy kicker and it was a perfect addition. I have a decently large appetite and I was full at the conclusion of my meal. The pasta was cooked well and the shrimp and scallops within the pasta were magnificent. It made me wonder why they do not have a scallop dinner available. My mother was pleased with her meal as well. She did not have anything special to say about it but she said she was content. I would definitely come here again. Let me start by saying that the restaurant must definitely be under new management, because the bad reviews from 2013 couldn't be more wrong! Having driven by the place many times, I was drawn in by the advertisement for dining on the 'dog friendly patio'. I did indeed bring my pooch along, and we were both treated to the excellent service and atmosphere from the moment we arrived! My dog was immediately brought fresh water and I was asked what she wanted for dinner, roasted turkey or roast beef! We chose the turkey, and she thoroughly enjoyed her meal along with all the positive attention from other diners. Our server, Elizabeth, was super friendly and attentive. She offered helpful suggestions regarding our menu selections. All of our food arrived in a timely manner and everything was absolutely delicious, from the bread right on through to the main course. If you are a dog lover who wishes they could take Fido out on the town with them, this is absolutely THE place to do it locally! They also offer a full bar, so theoretically one could also just stop in for a few drinks while taking the dog out for a summer stroll... This is an awesome concept that was very well executed to make the experience enjoyable for dogs and humans alike!! read more

I thought my burger, The Lumberjack, was very good and big. The chocolate silk pie was excellent as were the strawberry and apple pie others had. At $4.29 a slice, I don't think is a lot for dessert nowadays. My only complaint was it took a very long time to get our food. I would say it was easily 40- 45 minutes. My burger came out 3 minutes after the other 3 meals. It was very busy which tells me the place is good. I would go back but maybe not at noon. go at 11:30 or 1 and the wait won't be so bad. My mom would always order 4 or so pies from there for Christmas. If you go, save room for the pie......it's worth it. read more

Joseph's has had it's up's and down's over the years. A few years ago, I would never have recommended them to anyone I knew. The food was terrible, and never consistent. I don't think the chef at the time knew what salt was. Before the renovation the place was dark, and very uninviting. Now, however, the place is beautiful. They've been working out menu issues the past few months - however, I think all that has been resolved now into a very well developed, and rounded, menu. The service is fast and friendly. The food quality has gone up, as well as the quality of the people prepping the food. It's always seasoned well, comes out hot, and the food is fresh. You definitely can't beat their home made pasta for their ravioli, either! Joseph's is now a regular spot for my husband and I. Very glad that we gave this restaurant a second chance! read more

Restaurant is horrible. I went here twice. The first time when they first opened I had horrible service, orders were all screwed up and soups were cold. Not too mention the room they sat us in was 50 degree ( no exaggeration,there was a thermometer on wall). Second time wasn't any better....service was awful food was just ok.
