Cockroaches, out of service elevators, lack of hot water, broken heaters and a management team that disregards grievances when they are voiced. Rent is not cheap and the service provided when issues arise are slow and not handled appropriately. This all falls on the management team who pride themselves on tenant relations but they do anything but maintain relations with their paying tenants so long as something needs to be done on their end. Do not recommend unless you want to pay overpriced rent for a true lack of service. We had no heat from January 31st and the issue has yet to be resolved on February 9th - although the management team will tell you they are doing everything they can. Our apartment has been 32 degrees during this cold weather advisory. They will also lie to you to try to save face. read more

I live in this building and it seems clean. we are very clean people. there is a huge cockroach issue in this building. they send an exterminator to spray, but the building is unsurprised by the issue, and doesn't actually try to remediate it. They are in the common areas and very present in the building. I would look elsewhere. as a total side not a load of laundry is $9. read more

Love living here! It's a recently renovated building, so all the amenities are super new. The roof in the summer is fabulous (lounge chairs to lay on and area to BBQ). There are two other common areas, and for someone who works from home, it's really nice that I can leave my apt unit and have somewhere within the comfort of my building to work. The basement common area has a pool table and table shuffle board--we love hosting friends down there! The gym here is also a huge plus--I go multiple times a week. It's fabulous, clean, and has everything you need! All our neighbors are kind and respectful :) All the staff members are friendly, helpful, and responsive! The 24/7 doorman always makes me feel safe at home. I will note that you have to pay to use the machines in the laundry room (which is not out of the ordinary for NYC), and the driers are not great at drying clothes. Additionally, the building is on sixth ave at the end of the day, so you do hear noises---but its such a central location, so it comes with pros and cons on that front. Those are the only pitfalls, which are barely a pitfalls in NYC if you ask me! read more

We just moved out of NYC but were tenants of the Capitol for the past three years. Overall, we LOVED the Capitol - beautiful building, great location (literally central to everything!), nice apartments, and wonderful amenities (rooftop, gym, DOG RUN, party / event space, and more!). What made our experience so great was truly the AMAZING management team, concierge, and maintenance team. They are always there for you when you needed them and are all such pleasant individuals - not your typical NY building management! The only hiccups we ever experienced were during their renovation phases but management stepped up, communicated everything appropriately, and worked with their residents to mitigate some of the pain points residents were experiencing. The Capitol - for those who think life is just too fast, easy, and affordable. Do you ever think, wow, I always get where I'm going without having time to stop, think, and contemplate life? Don't worry, the Capitol has you covered - you'll often be gifted five, ten, even fifteen minutes to relax and meditate as you wait for the one of the two functioning elevators, despite the fact that they're all less than a year old! Ever feel guilty when enjoying a rooftop view of New York, knowing that very few in the world can afford such luxury? The Capitol can help there too! Only unionized workers are allowed on the (also, just renovated!) roof deck as it's closed while the...sides...of the building are fixed. A wonderful gift back to the community. Want to connect back to a simpler time in nature? You can do that here. Flowing water, a staple of civilization for centuries, is something that is seen as a gift that appears most of the time, not a basic necessity that is taken as a given. Really makes you appreciate the advances in hydro-technology. NYC can be so isolating, right? You can go days without interacting with anybody. Not at the Capitol! You'll have to talk to management on a near daily basis...to pick up your mail. That's right, the post office apparently can't deliver to the state of the art mailboxes in the lobby. (this one is seriously the most bizarre - they somehow lost all mail for two weeks when changing the lobby/address, and it's been over a month since we've had mail in our mailboxes instead of a manilla folder in the management office, open nearly 45 hours a week) Ever feel like your current situation just has too many amenities for what you pay for? The Capitol has thoughtfully stripped all those out of the rent. Gym? You'll pay extra. Grills? You'll pay extra (twice, in fact, when you include the deposit that's nigh-impossible to get back). Laundry? More expensive than when I moved in! What about the billiards and couch in the lobby? That's DEFINITELY worth the mandatory $150 per year. Never pay for anything you don't use again! And when it comes to shrewd negotiating, nothing gets by the Capitol. I'd pay anything to live here, right? A 10% increase in rent at renewal is a BARGAIN! But you can't say they aren't fair - when I pointed out that the identical apartment 3 floors above me is being advertised for less than I pay well, the Capitol generously came back with a revised renewal offer - only a 9% raise. How can I NOT re-sign? Calling this building and its recent renovations lipstick on a pig would be an insult for pigs everywhere. Don't be me. Don't make this mistake. Seriously. Don't. read more

I was told in a recent survey from the Capitol that I should submit my feedback on Yelp, so their wish is my command. Do not move here. They charge for a luxury building but don't offer one. The management team is unresponsive and not helpful. The elevators constantly break. The roof has been closed and under construction for a year (or more?) and they let you know about it unapologetically. If you want to be valued as a resident, just don't bother. One funny comment: if you go into an elevator with other residents, it's always funny how we all bond over our mutual frustration and feelings toward the Management Staff. It certainly brings the community together. I've never been in a building where everyone feels so similarly about the Management staff before. read more

Love this building. My boyfriend and I moved in a couple months ago and it's been a great experience so far. We can't say enough about the staff. The leasing agents, doormen, porters and repairmen are so friendly and extremely efficient. The newly renovated lobby and amenities are beautiful and while the elevators were an issue when we first moved in, the building seems to have improved the congestion issues. The management team at The Capitol is fantastic, especially Erin Hoffman. During our four years at the Capitol she helped us out in so many ways; from helping us move to a larger apartment in the building to ensuring our twins' first birthday party was a success, no matter what is was she was always there to help. In addition, she is very thoughtful and is proactive in addressing all the residents needs. If you need something taken care of, you just need to talk to Erin and it will get done. Even after we moved out of The Capitol down to Florida, she helped us locate a nearby Bozzuto building for my father so he would be closer to our family. We loved our time at The Capitol and Erin and the wonderful team she spearheads was a major part of it. read more

We recently moved in but Erin and Kylie in the leasing office made the decision to move into the Capitol an easy one. Once we signed the lease (which was a very easy online process) they were so helpful helping us organize the details of our move in. Since we have been at the Capitol all of the other staff and tenants have been very welcoming! We have also had a few fun events like a holiday party or tenant appreciation in the lobby. The staff in the building are great and the lobby, hallway and amenity space look nice as they finished the gut renovation last year (2019). Don't be fooled. I chose "The Capitol" because it looks nice and they said they haven't had an issue with Cockroaches and other Bugs. LIE!!! I pay premium for my 1 bedroom apt to stay away from Roches and other bugs yet I saw 5 Cockroaches in my unit and public space (dead and alive). FYI: I am extremely clean, organized and carry minimal life style. Also, I found out last year they had 2 cases of BED BUGS in the building and I see exterminator often in the building as well. I hate doing this but if I have read something like this while I was apartment hunting I would have never wasted my time there and I'm sure many feel the same. The elevators are always either broken or being renovated, making wait times up to 10 minutes!! During busy hours, there is a line in the lobby to get on an elevator! We can't go on the roof, because they've spent months upgrading it. This building was luxury before they started trying to add unnecessary amenities. We should be refunded; we are not getting what we pay for. read more

I have been at the building for almost 2 years. When I first got here, it was in the midst of some construction and quite noisy. Despite these issues, I must say that the staff continued to have such a positive can do attitude and worked with the residents, that it made the building a great place to be. Now all the construction is behind us and the building is a wonderful place to be. The rooftop is spectacular. Gorgeous views. The fitness center is wonderful. The cellar is great. But most importantly, the people who work in the building... They are responsive, accommodating, friendly, and always have a can do attitude. Erin is wonderful. They should clone her! It is stunning inside with a killer roof and great community spaces to hang out in! There were a few hiccups with construction this year but management has been awesome addressing and quickly solving! The new management staff is top notch and super helpful and responsive! I absolutely love this building! The building staff, especially the leasing department are kind, attentive, and thoughtful. They follow up on any and all requests from tenants. This has become a go to building for bringing my clients where I know they will receive a true luxury experience. Additionally, the newly re-done amenity spaces are a fan favorite. I love this building so much. The management team is so helpful, understanding, and present, which is important and something I haven't felt at other doormen buildings I've lived in. Maintenance is quick and easy to schedule in the building app, and the doormen are always happy and know all of us by first name. It truly feels like I'm coming home when I come back to my apartment after a long day at work. Also, the roof is insane and the gym overlooks the puppy walk which is the reason why I get on the treadmill every morning. Could not ask for a better living experience! read more

Despite the new lobby and amenity space, the renovation work continues to be disruptive and poorly managed. The brand new gym that was unveiled this winter after months of closure has now been cut to half its size, with equipment removed. The club floor is still in shambles. The elevators, after a year of renovation work causing woefully unreliable service, continue to break down with repairs taking more than a day, causing unbearable lines in the lobby, just to get to our apartments. The company decided to change the building address, causing weeks of disruption in mail delivery. Water service was shutdown on a weekday night with one day's notice, and while service was expected to be restored by 6am, as of this writing (8:30am) it has still not been restored, while residents need to get ready to go to work. The brand new rooftop that was unveiled last year is now closed again for facade repairs, which make the apartments uninhabitable during the weekday while workers are drilling through brickwork and causing a huge amount of noise. Doormen are fantastic here and have done the best they can in a bad situation, but management continues to do a poor job of dealing with these situations, sending only apology emails after the fact but offering nothing in the way of resolution or compensation for these inconveniences. read more

The management sent us an email on Wednesday telling us that water would be shut off from 11pm Thursday night till 6am Friday morning so we should "plan ahead". Leaving aside whether giving one day notice for something like this is enough for tenants to plan ahead, as most of the tenants here are working professionals, they shut the water earlier than they said they would and did not restore until after 10am Friday morning. They did not even apologize in the email they sent us informing us the water had been restored. I held my tongue saying anything on Yelp when the building has been constantly going through very disruptive renovations and when we often expect to wait for 15-30min for a lift during peak hours, but what happened this morning was outrageous. To anyone who is considering moving into the building, I'm not going to tell you what choice you should make but you should seriously consider all the reviews on here. I am not telling you what you should do for completely selfish reasons: the building has refused some tenants' rights to renew their leases at the last minute because they had posted a negative review about the building on Yelp and told prospectus tenants not to move in. Apparently they could do this because a clause in the contract says the tenants cannot "harm them financially". Unfortunately As a busy working professional, I don't have the capacity to manage another move. So in this post I'm staying completely factual. But as I said, if you are considering joining this building, you should seriously consider all the reviews here and ask yourself whether you will have the mental strength to deal with many frustrating situations on a frequent basis, and whether you will have the option to leave should you become fed up with it. DO NOT MOVE HERE!!!! The building has been undergoing endless renovations for over a year and a half and just when you think everything is about to get done they start on a new project. The list is endless... Rooftop patio that we had to wait for over a year and only got to enjoy last summer because guess what??? They closed it last September again. Elevator renovations that made everyone's lives a living hell for about a year an a half (FYI they're still not working properly!), hall renovations, gym renovations, dog run closed, cellar renovations, lobby renovations, facade maintenance.... I told you the list is endless! I feel terrible everytime I see a prospective tenant on their tour. I want to scream and tell them to not make the mistake we made, which is why I'm writing this review. Originally they told us everything would be done by April which is why like freaking fools we renewed our lease. Joke is on us because the truth is that there is no end in sight and if you ask them you won't get a straight answer. The level of noise during the day, dust and dirt everywhere are insufferable. Don't pay a few grand to live here when you have at least 5 other buildings in the same area where your money will be better spent and your quality of life will be infinitely better! They have coffee and wine about once a month for their 'valued tenants' and act like that totally makes up for the gross inconveniences they've been putting everyone through while at the same time continue to charge luxury rental prices. I honestly feel robbed every month and would move out in a heartbeat if they didn't ask for two months rental to end our lease! I feel bad because the people that work here are actually super nice and at the end of the day it is not their fault, it is the management company who makes all these decisions. But PLEASE TAKE YOUR MONEY AND MOVE SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!! read more

This building is AMAZING. By far the best apartment/doorman building I've lived in, out of the four I've rented during my time in NYC. Management is extremely helpful and responsive, and it helps that they have a team onsite. All of the doorman and staff are incredibly helpful as well. The building amenities are gorgeous and it feels like living in a hotel which is a huge perk compared to other NYC apartments. We're about to re-sign our lease and didn't even consider looking elsewhere. If you have the opportunity to live in The Capitol, dont hesitate to sign! read more

When I first moved into this building there were many problems, most notably an elevator system that was woefully inadequate and which resulted in waits of up to 25 minutes. However, the elevators have now been modernized and this is no longer a severe problem. There may be one too few elevators of a building of this size, but overall the system is now working. The renovations of the past two years have resulted in some very attractive facilities. The work is ongoing, but this is now a modernized building that can compete with the others in the neighborhood. And the public and party spaces, in particular, are outstanding. The fitness center has everything one needs. Construction of the apartments themselves is excellent. I cannot hear my neighbors, although I can hear noises from the hallway when I am standing near the front door. The staff is friendly and attentive. I will miss living here, but I am relocating for a job out of state. read more

The worst building I have ever had the displeasure of living in. Poor management and zero consideration for tenants. The elevators are terrible; expect long wait times. The laundry room has been moved down into the bowels of the building and it's a hike to get down there. Machines are constantly out of service (like the elevators) and no one in management actually cares enough to have them serviced in a timely manner. Hallways are in the process of being renovated so elevators do not run on those floors. The roof will be closed throughout the summer. I wish I had known all of this before signing my lease. I have been living here for 3 years and just signed on for another 16 months! It's the perfect place to live as a single person or as a couple, and even with a kiddo! It's a wonderful environment - great location, full service with a 24/7 support staff, beautiful decor & amenities and a spectacular rooftop view! Have lived in the building for several years (since early 2017) and love it. Great location, amenities (the roof and gym are great), and staff. Can't stress enough that the rooftop is amazing - great NYC views on the 40th floor and great grill set-up. There was a lot of construction in ~2018 that led to some ups and downs, but once the construction was done and the new management team was put in place the experience skyrocketed. Additionally, the doormen are incredible - super friendly, know you by name and memorize your unit number ASAP. The building is also very dog and pet friendly, which is a huge plus for us. The building has been newly renovated and has some of the best amenity spaces in the area, including a rooftop with unbelievable views. I can't say enough great things about the Capitol, but since I know it's not easy finding the perfect apartment, I'm going to try. To start, the apartments are beautiful and spacious and the building is very well maintained. OK, so you're saying, that can be said about a lot of luxury buildings. But here's what you can't always say. The building staff, from the doormen, to the handymen to the porters are as friendly and kind as they are professional and helpful. The management is wonderful. I sometimes pop into the office just to say "hi". If you aren't happy about something, they WANT to know. And they will do something about it. Erin Hoffmann who is the assistant general manager helped me find the perfect apartment for what I needed and was incredibly patient (I give new meaning to the word indecisive). She made the whole process so easy and hassle-free. They also take the time to set up little surprises, like Halloween candy boxes in the lobby, chocolates on Valentine's Day ... There are 2 large fabulous lounges. You can work there, hang out with friends, have an event... of course there are stricter rules now due to COVID. There's an outdoor patio and a gorgeous rooftop with incredible views. Every space (even the roof) has WiFi. And here's the real gamechanger -- an outdoor dog park within the building. This is an extremely pet-friendly building (I've lived in pet-tolerant buildings. There is a big difference). There's a really nice gym in the building as well. Location is prime. Three blocks from Madison Square Park. A Fairway on the next block, Trader Joes and Whole Foods a few blocks away. Duane Reade across the street and CVS two blocks away. Subway and buses within a block. And great bars and restaurants all around. I swear I am not getting paid for this review, lol. I've lived here for years and I'm just super happy. So I thought I'd write a review and spread the word. Especially now, when everyone is spending so much time at home and wants a place to feel comfortable and safe. read more

We are counting down the days until we can move out, DO NOT MOVE HERE! We have lived in this building for 3 years and it has gone downhill substantially. The elevators haven't worked properly in 2 years, even with the new renovations to them they continue to experience horrific problems causing residents to wait sometimes up to 20 minutes for an elevator. Lines wrap around the lobby and create tremendous delays to/from work. The building is undergoing massive renovations, that frankly have been poorly managed and has created intense hardship for residents. The noise is unbearable during the day, everything is torn apart, it's really an awful environment to be living in! We are still being charged ridiculously high rent even though most of our amenities have been unavailable and management has offered no compensation for any of these inadequacies. This has truly been a horrific experience, and if you think management will be sympathetic to your complaints, think again. All we get are occasional emails basically telling us to have patience and see the light at the end of the tunnel. Well as far as we can tell, where exactly is the end of that tunnel?!
