So much fun! Great experience& food was super tasty! Loved the bibs and plastic gloves. I would have liked to have a fork & knife, to eat the potato & sausage, but it was fine without it. I had the captain's boil sauce mix, mild and it was amazing. Had the sausage and potatoes for sides, also excellent. I REALLY liked the sausage, great flavour combo with the sauce. We also splurged and had the calamari and opted to try both the fried rice and cajun fries. We'd definitely order the rice again, it was SO good, even better the next day for lunch. I'd skip the fries, save room for the good stuff. Calamari was good, but again, I'd opt to skip and save room for the rest. read more

UPDATE: the owner commented below telling me to contact them so they could rectify the situation. I followed the instructions the same day and haven't heard anything. They just wanted to appear as if this situation was a one off and they are willing to make unhappy customers happy. When we first arrived it was 7:30 on a Friday and quite busy. We put our name down and were told it would be a 20 minute wait. We decided that would be fine and not to look for another place to eat. Well the 20 minute wait was actually an hour. To start off our experience we weren't very impressed. If the wait is an hour, tell us that and let us make a ur decision that way. Don't tell someone it's 20 minutes and leave us standing there wondering if we're next. Once we got to our table our server was very nice and explained the menu quite well. We ordered the crawfish in Captain's sauce and the King Crab Legs in Garlic sauce as well as the oysters and the Cajun seafood fried rice. The Cajun seafood fried rice was really good. Everything else was mediocre. The food is weighed by the pound so when our crab arrived it was two shoulders and one leg. We were disappointed with the "crab legS" coming with one leg but didn't worry about it too much until we got our bill. It is a "seasonal" item and therefore doesn't have a price listed with it but the King Crab is $55 a pound. When we got our bill we were floored. There was no inclination from our server that this would be the price. The snow crab was $26 a pound so we expected maybe $35 for the king crab. We felt that the server should have told us the price without us having to ask. It was also extremely difficult to get a staff member so we could get our bill and the remainder of our food boxed up. Overall, the experience is unique and the staff were friendly but it was just fine for us. We probably won't be going back for that price. We had originally planned to go to Von's Steakhouse and they have a seafood platter for $117 for two. We could have gone there and spent the same amount of money and had wine (which they don't offer here) and probably a more enjoyable experience. Wouldn't recommend. read more

I am so happy with the Edmonton location! I'm usually pessimistic about both seafood in Edmonton because I visit Vancouver pretty often and also about chains coming to Edmonton. My table ordered a mix of cajun sauce with the heat level Fire and Captain's Boil sauce in Fire and they were delicious!! The food came out in a timely manner and the quality, especially for being in a landlocked province was out of this world! Also would recommend the fried rice! The last and best thing I would like to rave about is the service! I've never had such amazing service, EVER! Our server was Andy, which if you've read in previous comments, has been mentioned before! He is an amazing server and made our experience unforgettable! When I come back, I 150% would request him as a server! I would even go to the point of waiting for a table to open in his section just to have him as server! He got the vibe of our table spot on, and was joking with us the whole time! His sense of humor and personality is absolutely golden! He pointed us in the right direction when he was giving us his input on a couple items we were deciding on. He checked on us consistently making sure our drinks were never empty and ensuring we had everything else we needed! I usually have a great experience at this place and easily spending $200+ on a meal. If you forget your mask though they want you to pay a measly $1 fee each mask. Found that ridiculous and the lady continued to be rude and an unnatentive server after finally accepting we were about to walk out and not support their business. After finishing our meal we spoke to the manager who heard our concern and gave us 10% off which was nice. Like i said, usually great food and service and would rate 5/5 every other experience but thats not enough if this particular policy and workers attitude keep up as we couldnt fully enjoy our meal as much as we normally do in that atmosphere. The Captains Boil was a must try on my list. There was a long wait for a table but they were happy to call you when your table is ready. The place is licensed. We ordered the lobster and crab. The crab was amazing! It's a little off putting that the food comes in a bag. The lobster, which had no price by it was disgusting! It arrived at the table full of shit not cleaned at all. Just gross and nasty. Other than that the food was good. Had to keep asking for new plastic gloves to wear as they were very cheap. I would recommend this as a special occasion only place but for $150 for 2 people to eat I think I am better than plastic silverware and styrofoam bowls to eat out of. Place is alot smaller than expected that's for sure, but we came at 9pm.. and we were seated right away on a monday! We ordered 6 fresh oysters, shrimp and kind crab leg all in the delicious Captain Boil Sauce and had the fried rice as a side as well... FOOD was Amazing!!! For YEG to be in the middle of nowhere near a sea, the seafood was unbelievably fresh and juicy!! King Crab is definitely a MUST! $55 was definitely worth it because of how big it was. Shrimp was also so very juicy and plump. Oysters were really good with vinegar there was only one piece that tasted off but other than that.. it was phenomenal. Fried rice was okay, my boyfriend and i shared it and finished that one plate. It was dry and had like a chalky texture to it. Flavor was kinda there but if maybe they would be able to add to the menu an option to buy the sauce for the rice or something? that would be awesome! Terrible! It was our first experience at the North Edmonton restaurant. The waitress was patronizing, telling us if we could read then we should understand the menu. She just didn't want to explain the process of ordering. There were no options of anything to drink other than pop and pineapple juice?? It is not licensed yet. We ordered our very expensive food. Plastic gloves? No cutlery? Really? Our mussels were in a terrible lemon sauce. They were huge though. The shrimp in a garlic sauce was tasty but man you had to work for a little bit of meat. The corn was so over boiled it was soggy and inedible. The waitress never did bring our rice. Thank goodness for our basket of fries or we would have starved. It's new and it's busy! The food was good, we had crab legs, Cajun fries, lobster and corn. I wasn't all about the lobster for the price but everything else was on point. The crab was really great, it's a smaller location but that will most likely change. I feel like the servers need more training but that will come with experience. read more

All of our seafood selections were delicious. Can't really get crawfish anywhere in Alberta as good as it's served here. These mudbugs were cooked perfectly and were juicy as hell. Make sure to suck the brains out or else you going to miss out on a trip to Flavortown. Lobster was large and while this may not be my favorite way to have lobster, it's still really good. The main selling point for Captain's Boil was the flavoring you can give your bags of seafood. There's so many good options and routes you can go. Cajun, lemon pepper, garlic sauce or all three aka Captain's Boil. With those sauces there are levels (RIP Avicii) of spiciness you can add. Delicious. Pair seafood with a bunch of sides that include cajun fries, rice, garlic bread and you'll be in a food coma for sure. There's enough variety of seafood and flavor that is worth the visit. I didn't know this was a chain and couldn't be happier that it's also in south Edmonton. This location in Calgary had great service and hopefully it's the same in yeg. The price here is a bit steep, but the experience of eating with plastic gloves and out of bags is pretty sweet. Best seafood restaurant ever!! I've had it in the USA & Toronto and was soo happy to learn they just opened in Edmonton! Went on Friday of the May long weekend and waiting time was 30mins although I was told it was 45mins to 1 hr. Make sure to go early enough as they do not take reservations. Seafood super super fresh. I had shrimps, dungeonese crab, mussles and oysters and corn. Oysters needed a bit of salt. We ordered mussels with garlic butter sauce but next time I'd go with everythin captain boil. Price was surprisingly not as expensive as I thought it'd be. I recommend getting the captain's boil house flavour every time! Service was excellent! Met a friend for lunch, won't be going back. Very expensive for lunch. My friend laughed when told the lobster lunch was $38. They bring your food out in plastic bags, which you then dump out on brown paper topped table. They give you bibs and ridiculously large plastic gloves to eat your food with. No utensils available. If you have small hands, the gloves are useless as you have over an inch of excess on the fingers, covered in sauce that then gets all over your face as you try to eat. We both took ours off and just ate with our fingers. We had mussels, shrimp and okra. Everything is sold separate unless you purchase a package meal. Average quality, way too much sauce. Let's spill the tea. PROS: the sauces, the aesthetic, the servers. The sauces are amazing, you get to choose the level of spiciness and this girl loves her spicy (try the Captain's Boil Volcano). The look of the restaurant is amazing as well, very instagram worthy. You can take lots of pics while you wait for your delicious seafood to come out. Servers are welcoming and helpful. I think our server was Brian, he was amazing. He had a very welcoming personality and represented Captain's Boil very well. CONS: pricey. overhyped. manager. As expected, it was pricey. I honestly was not paying attention to what I was ordering, my hunger took over my senses and although there was not much.. we somehow ended up paying over $150. My boyfriend and I still left a little hungry and decided to stop by for some more quick bites before heading home. As I have seen reviews on this place in instagram by local reviewers, I had come to Captain's Boil with big expectations and honestly, I was a little underwhelmed. Although our server was an angel, this rude manager (perhaps owner) really threw me and my boyfriend off. We saw him yell at his staff in front of customers, he wouldn't even be doing anything most of the time but stand there and look at the servers, I heard him become passive aggressive towards the kitchen staff when I went to wash my hands. I had posted a similar review of this on my google account because I want to bring awareness about what hostile environment this manager is creating. He came off very unwelcoming. All in all, the final verdict: Would I come back? possibly. But not as much as I had expected. As a newer restaurant, there is obviously still changes to be made and I hope through these reviews... we will all be able to go to Captain's Boil with good experiences. Right after work we picked up the kids from home and went straight to this restaurant and I was so happy and satisfied. The servers were very nice too! I am definitely coming back! I have been to the US and have tried many different restaurants that offer seafood the same way captains boil does. It is not the same. The atmosphere is fine and restaurant was crowded and busy. I ordered one pound of crawfish, one pound of shrimp, and a whole Dungeness crab. It came in plastic bags with little sauce, and no flavour. We had mild, captains boil sauce and garlic which was the best one out of all of them. There was barely any sauce in the bag. This is disappointing as the captains boil should be the best sauce. I asked for more sauce the waitress said I need to pay for it. What?!? There was barely any flavour or sauce. In the end we didn't finish our food, asked for it to be packed up and ended up bringing it home and making my own sauce to dip in. It was better than what they had to offer. I wanted to pick 1 1/2 stars but there is no half so I am being generous and saying they deserve two. Maybe people who haven't tried it before think it's good but I paid $145 for 3 things I did not enjoy and ended up sitting in my fridge for 2 days. I don't recommend this place. And I don't mind telling my friends as well not to go there. read more

I have to update my previous review. I have gone back and I have to say that they have definitely improved their service from the last incident that I had. Its also really nice when a owner acknowledges feedback good or bad and look to improve their business. So I can now say this will definitely be my go to anytime I have a craving for some finger licking good seafood.
