What a cute hidden gem. The place is small but cozy! It was a cold night so of you are a cold person like me bring a sweater. Our server was very pleasant, however their co-worker really took the time to make us feel special as we were ccelebrating a birthday. The oysters were on spacial, we had alot! We were craving seafood, specifically oysters and our go to place was temporarily closed so we searched, found this place and decided to go there! There was a concert at Rogers Place and the place was filled with people who were going to that concert after their drinks or supper! The place was pretty busy (good sign) but a bit noisy! The interior design and the atmosphere were pretty good! The staff was nice, helpful and funny! The food was very good! I really enjoyed the quality of the food and the drinks were also pretty good! First time and at restaurant in Canada and I love oysters so I came here! Dozen for $12 5-7pm. Limit one dozen for that price. They were delicious and perfectly shucked. I had two dozen and could've had more! Ordered the martini with caviar on top, that was delicious. Lobster ravioli with jumbo shrimp on top too. Lastly a local bottled fruity beer. I've been dreaming of this restaurant for 4 months. I did an exhaustive search for my favorite dish; lobster ravioli. I came up with only 2 places. The Black Pearl is closest, so I made a reservation almost 2 months ago. Just to be certain I could have my birthday dinner here. Excellent, friendly service. Cute place. We got the primo table. Started with a dozen oysters. Chardonnay. Mains: Lobster ravioli and octopus. Cheesecake for dessert. Everything was fresh and spectacular. I will be back. So we have eaten here twice, flat out the first time a couple years back the food was good service was not. However last trip was amazing. Server was awesome, the drinks were great, try the cesear looks amazing and its a meal itself. We have 4 dozen oysters and every sauce with it was great. The steaks and lobster were also great. I've been to Black Pearl Seafood Bar downtown many times now after learning about their oysters special and that other places stopped offering similar specials (or increased prices). In terms of food, the must try is their Buck a Shuck. Their other food is decent. Overall, I'd give them 8.8/10 for their oyster special. read more

Came here for a birthday party... We brought a cake, was charged $25 cake fee. No free dessert either. We ordered the $200 hot seafood tower ( it doesn't even look like a tower), oysters, salads, and drinks. Overall the drinks were very good. The lobster tower was very disappointing and tasteless. It has no flavor aside from the butter they serve with it. I wouldn't recommend this place or come back. For the price we paid, we all could've gotten steak dinners each. The oysters were delicious, I wish I could have gotten more! their pasta's are decent and have a large option of seafood to choose from. The drinks were quite good as well. Overall, no complaints. The manager even stopped by tables to make sure that everything was running smoothly throughout the restaurant. The restaurant itself is decorated like the "Black Pearl" a ship with a lot of sea that is dimly lit in the evening. There are a lot of ship accents hung on the wall. I had great expectations for Black Pearl but left with a mostly "meh" impression and a bill upwards of $380 for two people. I reserved a table for my son and I to celebrate his 21st birthday (which I let them know ahead of time). We ordered the Kings Platter, a flatbread and my son had fresh oysters (12). The food was OK, not extraordinary and certainly not what I expected for the price. The lobster was extremely overcooked and dry and most of the other seafood was underwhelming. Lots of curry sauces that seemed very overwhelming when served with delicate seafood. No mention of my sons birthday other than at the very end of our meal, our waiter gave him a coupon for pizza at the owners other restaurant and said that it was his birthday gift. Black pearl has emerged in a small cozy place with a pirate themed decor. Wooden planks everywhere and food served on wooden cutting boards. The place is probably best enjoyed with a larger group, as the portions are huge and basically good for 2 or 3 people a dish. But they are such huge portions I think to have one dish for yourself would be overkill. The dishes are unique tasting with plenty of cheese and seafood. I felt like all the dishes were carb heavy. Like fries, risotto or pasta. Basically everything layered with cheese and plenty of seafood. Seriously it's hard to screw that up. But my favourite dish of the night was the bone marrow lobster mac and cheese. It was different as its a tomato based pasta but in a good way. The scallops were a tad overcooked. But overall the seafood was all super fresh. I would like to come back to taste more of the appetizers. Tuesdays are $2 oysters and Thursdays are $10 tapas which are basically a daily special until they run out. Joint is small. Make reservations if you can. read more

This was my first time coming to Black Pearl and even though we were not able to sit indoors due to restrictions, the patio was bumping and lots of people watching was able to happen. They have a good amount of outdoor tables and heaters galore. It was super windy that day but we braved the elements to support local. The manager seated us and we got there right at 5:00 because we didn't want to take any chances of not getting any seats. He was super friendly and appreciative of us. He told us about the specials and then our server came to help. She was also very friendly and suggested a very delicious shot! We wanted something to warm us up but still tasty. I can't remember the name of the shot but it was great! We also ordered a sangria cocktail which was delicious and had a cool smoky flavour because it came with a cinnamon stick that was set on fire and smoking :) love the creativity. Their wine list was extensive as well. They oysters themselves were quite fresh! They were a bit smaller than some other oysters we've had but for a buck I'd say it was worth it. They oysters come in an impressive tray filled with ice and some syringes that you use to squirt your oysters with either pickle juice (which was surprisingly delicious!), red vinegar, and hot sauce. There was also some shaved fresh horseradish and lemon. All the essentials and more! Overall the experience was as great as it can be considering all current restrictions. This is a really great choice for those who enjoy oysters, king crab, lobster, the whole shebang. Black pearl served high quality seafood and that is quite hard to find in this city. Restaurant is quite small, however, I prefer it that way because it gives a very intimate feel which is perfect for date nights. I know in the summer they have their patio opened up which is very nice. I'd recommend making reservations to secure your spot! Oh and you must try the risotto! I have been here twice, and will be a repeat customer for sure moving forward. The food is delicious, and the portions are perfect. A buck a shuck oysters are my fav, as well as the honey nut lobster, prawns & scallops! Such a great atmosphere, relaxing, quaint, and comfortable. The staff is friendly, and fantastic at everything they do. They are very accommodating, and a pleasure to be served by. My daughter is in a wheelchair, their restaurant is wheelchair accessible, and they went above and beyond both times to make sure she was comfortable with the seating choice and surroundings. I cannot comment on the food. What I can comment on is the customer service. We had a 6 pm reservation and were seated. We were immediately informed by the male individual that seated us that there was another reservation at our table at 8pm. Our server came by our table showing us the drink and food menus, left and never returned. 15 minutes later we left and went to another restaurant where they welcomed customers and had wonderful service and food. I came here to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and this restaurant did not disappoint. The service was attentative and friendly. Since it was a special occasion, we ordered the seafood tower ($140). It came with Lobster, Dungeness Crab, King Crab, Oysters, and Prawns. We also ordered garlic white wine pasta on the side ($10). The seafood was so fresh and delicious. I'm surprised at how fresh it was considering we live in Edmonton. Oysters were so good and there were a variety of sauces to eat them with. This dish also came with garlic butter melted under a candle and it was the perfect dipping sauce with the seafood. It was my favorite sauce of the night. The lobster was a bit difficult to crack but you can request a seafood cracker if the utensils on the table aren't strong enough. The pasta was average, we probably didn't need to order it. The tower was definitely worth it though and it had great presentation. We mentioned to the server that it was my boyfriend's birthday and he gave us the Red Velvet Cake dessert on the house. It was either that or a complimentary drink. The cake was one of the best Red Velvet cakes that I've ever had. So it's been a while since I had a meal and woke up the next day still thinking about it and craving to have the same meal again but that is exactly what happened when I went to Black Pearl. I have been meaning to try Black Pearl for a while now but just haven't gotten around to it till this weekend when my friend was visiting from Toronto - we were on a quest to find oysters and wine. Black Pearl is a small restaurant nestled on 104st by jasper ave. It serves predominantly Atlantic seafood (that's what the server told us) and I would say the menu ranges from average in price ($11 for a lobster bisque soup) to more high range seafood entrees. Our server was super friendly and helpful and was seemingly enthusiastic about his job and place at Black Pearl, which was a nice and pleasant surprise. He had lots of recommendations, was quick and efficient and, overall, appeared very knowledgeable with both the food and drink menu. We started our meal off with each having a 1/2 dozen oysters (there were 2 choices that night) and the lobster bisque soup. The oysters were sweet, smooth and easy to eat. The soup was hot and had clear pieces of lobster in the soup. The portion size was fair and the presentation was beautiful. My friends shared the Honey Nut Lobster, Prawns and Scallops while I had 3 cod fish tacos. The tacos were bigger than other standard restaurant tacos and were probably some of the best fish tacos I have ever had. The fish weren't overly battered, the sauce was sweet and the tacos were full and the filling wasn't sparse. I absolutely recommend giving the Black Pearl a try if you're a seafood lover. I mean, I definitely can't wait to go back and try more things on the menu. Additional recommendations, try the wooden smoke old fashion. I don't even like old fashions but I recall trying one back in the day at North 53 that was lovely and have been looking for a similar one since then - this is it. My husband and I don't make it down town very often but we recently went to an Oilers game and wanted to take advantage of some of the great dining options in the area! The decor from the art on the roof and walls to the lighting made us feel like we were in the bottom of a ship- the black pearl ship of course! We really enjoyed the company and conversation with both bartenders! They answered our questions with a lot of great details and we had perfect seating for the prep of the smoked bourbon! We enjoyed a nice Pinot noir and a black ball rum and coke. Was fun learning about their variety of different kinds of rum! And they have a ton of fun cocktails too! For dinner I was a bit restricted as I can't eat dairy or many carbs. But they have an amazing grilled veggie dish and the grilled calamari was delicious and great portions! My husband ordered the pearl pescatore and wow!! So much fresh and delicious seafood!! He said that The sauce and the pasta also has good flavor but we were so impressed with the amount of seafood! The dinner was a bit delayed but we were kept up to date about it as time went on and they even through in a few free drink refills, which was not expected!! By dessert time we were pretty full but our bartender reccomended the crem brûlée cocktail for dessert- and it was amazing! Not too sweet or creamy!! Fun watching him prepare it too!! I've been wanting to try Black Pearl since it opened way back in April 2015. Fast forward a year later, I finally made it out for their Tuesday buck a shuck oysters! That's right, $1.00 oysters all daaaaaaaaaaaaaaay. Sister restaurant to Café Amore (one of my favourite places in the city), the Crudo brothers second restaurant specializes in seafood, pretty much a rarity in land locked Edmonton. If you're looking to keep those pennies floating in that sad looking piggy bank of yours, they have specials on Wednesday (1/2 price mussels) and Thursday (1/2 price tacos). Bbops and I headed over after working out on a Tuesday evening and the place was packed. Only room at the bar where we grabbed seats right smack in the middle of the bartending action. Cool to watch but somewhat intrusive if you were on say a date. Seafood everything on the menu. Cold seafood platter sounds scrumptious. Seriously need a company expense account... Heard good things about the regular menu but geez, $20.00 is insane for two tacos! Latin American grandmothers would probably roll in their graves if they saw these prices. Only way I'm trying these is if I'm here on a Thursday. - Nanoose Bay ($1.00 each) - started things off with the Nanoose Boy oysters which were delicious. Smaller than the Fanny Bay but a bit more on the sweeter side of things. Comes with lemon slices, horseradish and cocktail sauce. Add your condiments (or none if you're a purist) and slurrrrrrrrrp up. - Fanny Bay ($1.00 each) - the Fanny Bay oysters were ginormous. Seriously, some of them completely filled their shells. More "meatier" than our first dozen but just as tasty. We also tried out Black Pearl's three different sauces (in small eye drop bottles). Worth a try but I'd rather eat them without. Seemed a little gimmicky to me. - Acadian Sturgeon caviar - as we were winding down our after workout oyster feast, Effing Rob randomly popped in and declared to everyone in the restaurant that he was having a caviar tasting. Say whaaaaaaaaaat? Obviously, we lined up because who turns down free caviar? This was our first time trying out caviar and all I can say is daaaaaaayuuuuuum. No wonder people love expensive, luxurious things. The way it works is you take a sip of the vodka to cleanse your palate, then pop the caviar on your tongue and let it melt in your mouth. That's exactly how things went down - it was literally a party in my mouth. So good. I also got a touch of saltiness at the end. We repeated the process where one older lady, who was sampling at the same time as us, wanted less. We jokingly said to Rob that we would eat her portion (obviously we would have!). We had ours eyes on Black Pearl Seafood Bar for awhile and it didn't disappoint. We absolutely LOVED it here. We are huge seafood lovers, so this was right up our alley. We went on a Tuesday night for "Buck A Shuck" night and made the mistake of not making a reservation. The restaurant is small and really cozy with great ambiance. And it gets busy, so reserve a table. We were seated at the bar, and while we appreciated them squeezing us in we look forward to a table on our next visit. The staff was all awesome. We started with a couple of beers, Heather had a Parallel 49 Jerkface 9000 and I had a St. Albroise Pale Ale. A small but good selection of bottled beer. We came for oysters and appetizers, so we shared a half dozen Raspberry Oysters, an order of brussel sprouts, the Wok Style Squid, and an order of mussels. We literally debated all the way home what was best... all four appetizers were excellent. The oysters were fresh and delicious, and the choices of condiments that came with them was delicious (try the pickle juice!). The brussel sprouts were fantastic and cooked perfectly, the crumbled maple sausage that accompanies them was abundant and soooo tasty. The mussels come in your choice of 11 different broths. We chose the Yellow Curry Cream and loved it. And the Wok Style Squid, their take on calamari, was the best "calamari" I have ever had... hands down. Lightly battered and wok fried, these were perfection. This might be our new favorite restaurant in Edmonton.
