I have come here a few times recently to have lunch with family and friends. It's such a convenient location for me as I work downtown. It's literally a 5 minute walk away. I always make reservations but they seem not to be busy at lunch so feel free to just walk in. It is a neat location, located in the lobby of the hotel. It has huge high ceilings and very large walk up bar. The booths are extra large and would be amazing for a big party. All the staff I have dealt with are friendly and attentive. We came here for Edmonton Downtown Dining Week. It is inside the Sandman hotel which makes me leary to begin with, but actually really nice inside. Elegant without being stuffy. The menu that we ordered was Caesar Salad with croutons, Grana Padano My hubby ordered the Top Sirloin - 7oz, finished with house garlic butter, topped with French sea salt, cracked pepper & chives. While I ordered the Miso Glazed Salmon - wild rice pilaf, fresh seasonal vegetables We ordered both desserts so we could try them . New York Cheesecake - Slow baked & infused with ice wine & ginger Flourless Chocolate Torte - Amaretto mousse, chocolate ganache & vanilla anglaise We also ordered the crab cakes as if there wasn't enough food, because I can't resist a crab cake. We also had a cocktail. Our server was prompt, friendly, and professional. Constantly checking up on us and refilling our waters. Crab cakes were amazing. Many of them have fillers but this was FULL of crabmeat. It tasted fresh. I will be ordering this again. The Caesar salad was fine, but the Crouton (note picture) were huge and hard to eat. My salmon was excellent. A very hearty portion of salmon with some delicate rice and veggies. Perfect. My husband enjoyed his steak, however he asked for it medium rare and I think this is more rare than medium. However it didn't bother him and he finished the plate. The desserts were amazing. The New York Cheesecake was rich and sporting a blueberry sauce. However what was the big surprise was the Flourless Chocolate Torte. This is a big, beautiful restaurant, centrally located and near to Roger's place. I've been several times both for supper as well as after-work beverages and appetizers. There is a main floor entrance and a 2nd floor entrance. I wish I could give advice about the entrances but I've not been able to figure out the system. I've been redirected down from up and up from down a few times....if I was to guess I would have guessed up is the dining area and down is the lounge but I cannot say for sure. There is lots of paid parking all around. This restaurant is inside a hotel. There is a pretty good wine list. Prices for food and beverage are higher than some for same quality and selection. Happy hour is 2-5 so for those who work until 430 or 5:00 one can't really.take advantage of happy hour specials.... But again, big, comfy booths, high ceilings so noise level is good. read more

We had dinner here at the beginning of the Covid 19 crisis. An excellent experience. Rib eye was nicely charred with flavour, slightly over cooked though which has been my only disappointment lately at every steakhouse I have been. The wine was great, I will update if I remember and it just happened to be half of glasses this particular night. Bonus! Sides were delicious and the tuna appetizer was just okay here. Not to knock a star though. The service was impeccable. You could see the effort going into the extra cleaning and effort for the new protocols for the Coronovirus and it was the very beginning. This restaurant was about a 10 minute walk from our hotel in the Lake Louise Village. We were there on a Saturday and it was terribly busy. We had to put our name on a waitlist and were seated in approximately 20 minutes. The tables are small, but because the space and the restaurant is small, it enables them to seat more people. My husband and I shared a Caesar salad, which turned out to be much bigger than we expected, but was totally delicious. We also shared the chicken fettuccine, which was also delicious and enough for two. There is no air conditioning which we understand normally is not needed in this area, but Canada was experiencing a heat wave. Service was excellent. We recommend eating here. read more

Had a meal at the bar here before an Oilers game and found it a pleasant experience. The place was packed as there were people there on business as well as out of towners heading to the hockey game. Very lively vibe. Started with a delicious old fashioned. There was an extra little spice in the drink which made it very memorable. Bartender was friendly but very busy and not terribly attentive. I ordered the rib eye, which was delicious. It came with mashed potatoes which were also good. While sitting at the bar, I enjoyed conversations with people on either side...very friendly and open crowd. Best late night eats in edmonton. Yummy happy hour. Quick service. After midnight. Its slim pickings for food in edmonton. Most of the decent kitchens are closed or already have called last call by then. But i found a secret spot for my late night hunger pangs on a weekday. Yup this place is open until 130am on weekdays. You can order a lovely 3 course meal after midnight! But if you just want to snack or drink. Theres a pretty stellar happy hour late night menu for $5 drinks and $7 appys! Not just any appys but real dishes like calamari, crab cakes, sliders and wings. I would highly recommend the chop experience which upgrades your meal with your choice of a soup or salad. And then your choice of two sides. It elevates the steak experience to another level! I really enjoyed the asparagus with bernaise sauce. And the peppercorn sauce with the petite filet mignon was surprisingly delicious. At 130am on a weekday morning the meal was one of the best ive had in edmonton. My secret is out for my choice of late night eats in e town. And if you must know the crowd is mostly out of towners staying at the hotel. A huge tv to keep entertained. Came to Chop Steakhouse and Bar (downtown) last night for Downtown Dining Week 2016 and to celebrate the hubs and my 13th Wedding Anniversary. We opted for reservations which meant the booth areas upstairs but the walk-in space in the lounge downstairs is probably my favourite here. Our server and all the staff were pretty fabulous. Sure there were some mistakes - missing a spoon for soup or water but when asked everyone was super friendly and took care of our needs. I really liked how any staff member walking by was able to stop and check in on us or ask if we needed anything and our server checked back at the perfect times to make sure we were enjoying our items. Parking can be a bit tricky here but the East Parkade in City Centre is pretty good and has an access ramp from the 2nd floor of the parkade (still requiring some stairs) that doesn't make you go outside in case it's super cold or rainy. I absolutely love the look of this location of Chop and you can really see the attention to detail what went into the huge renovation of this space for Chop to open up paired with the Sutton Hotel. If you haven't been to the lounge - go - it's really something to enjoy. Anyhow, I digress. The hubs and I opted for the following from the Downtown Dining Week $28 Menu (there was also a $48 option with killer appetizers like steak bites and crab cakes but we didn't want to have a huge meal at a late setting before bed): For starters we selected: Mixed Green Salad garden vegetables, pumpkin and black sesame seeds with basil honey-lime vinaigrette Red Pepper Bisque creamy satin bisque of tomatoes and roasted red peppers Both were excellent but the basil honey-lime vinaigrette was TO DIE FOR. Seriously, I wanted to lick the plate and asked the hubs if he would try to replicate this at home! PHENOMENAL salad and the pumpkin and sesame seeds were just killer with it! For mains we selected: Maple Bourbon Haddock blackened haddock, seared in a maple bourbon butter, served with wild rice pilaf and fresh seasonal vegetables Top Sirloin served with your choice of wasabi infused mashed potatoes, wild rice pilaf, baked potato, Chop cut fries or fresh seasonal vegetables & I added lobster and gorgonzola for $5 to the Sirloin Both were excellent. The steak was cooked to perfection at a warm medium rare. I loved the lobster and gorgonzola add on! The hubs was super happy with his blackened haddock. Both of us commented that we would order the same starters and mains again which is always a great sign! And for desserts we opted for: Tiramisu espresso soaked sponge, amaretto & mascarpone mousse, shaved chocolate Warm Apple Crumble granny smith apples & raspberry compote, brown sugar crumble, vanilla gelato Both desserts were excellent and presented beautifully. I loved the classic feel of the crumble in the oval cast iron dish and the tiramisu in a 1/2 size mason jar. I've had mason jar desserts before that fell flat or didn't seem put together at all. This one totally hit the mark and was not a consistency I was expecting in that it didn't appear to have layers and felt more like a mix - similar to rice pudding. The flavour was heavenly and easily rich enough to share between two people. I had mentioned at the very beginning of dinner that I had a walnut allergy and not only did our server come back several time stop to ask specific questions but the front end manager also stopped by to clarify before delivering the apple crumble to my husband - even the way the front end manager knelt down to our table to discuss my allergy with me at eye level was quite comforting and made us feel that they really cared. Being that we had a late seating and it was a work night we opted for sparking water instead of wine or cocktails and I was pleased to see that they offer house bottled sparkling water with a little note on the back of the bottle that choosing to support this method is both environmentally responsible and sustainable. And the price was fair at $3.99 a bottle (2 glasses plus a little extra from each bottle). To finish off the night our server brought us two glasses of prosecco because she had overheard us talking about our Anniversary. All in all it was a fabulous meal from service to ambience to presentation to taste of food. It's not often that I can say I would 100% repeat the same meal bite for bite but I would definitely say that about Chop downtown. TWO THUMBS WAY UP As a side note, I had come here back in November as part of the Yelp Rodeo Week food crawl and was absolutely blown away by the food we tried and the knowledge and service we received from Stefan (the sales and special event coordinator). The steak bites and Tuna tartar were AH-MAZING and the Alcoholic Pink Lemonade blew my mind. The bone-in ribeye was the best I have ever had! I went here for downtown dining week and tried the $18 lunch menu. This menu starts with a choice of soup or salad including their famous steakhouse Caesar Salad with house baked croutons and Grana Padano cheese. You got to choose from entrées like the Open Faced Prime Rib Sandwich, Chop Salad and the Carolina Club sandwich with pulled chicken, bacon and smoked white cheddar. I opted for the Artisan salad to start with the Carolina sandwich with pulled chicken... without cheese and ofcourse fries on the side. I have to say that I was so impressed by the food. It was absolutely delicious. Large portions too! For how busy it was, the waitress was attentive and friendly. I was really impressed. I have never been to the Chop near the Sutton hotel and this would be my first time. I am definitely going to be coming back here for lunch. The food was so good!!! The portions were good and I was just all around happy. Highly recommend coming here! I will definitely be coming back to this location based on my experience so far. Was here in the summer while staying in a hotel downtown. The location was pretty perfect for us since I couldn't walk very far (broken leg). We were seated on the main floor in the lounge (full menu) and had a great 'people watching' table with the massive windows. The food? Fantastic. I had the steak and the peppercorn sauce was to die for. Great wine selections as well. Here is where you failed me, my Chop friends... Went to use the Ladies Room on the main floor and there was vomit everywhere, unusable. Asked the Hostess if there was a different facility I could use and, lucky me, there was. But up a massive staircase... not lucky me. Remember that broken leg? Ya, it was like climbing Mount Everest (at least that was what the effort felt like). Downtown is known for its unpleasant parking situations. Except Sundays its free ( certain places). Having never been to this location before, my sister and I were having a bit of trouble finding the place. Its in the Sutton hotel building. Sunday lunch in the lounge was quiet and relaxed. I love it. We started with the Wildrose IPA on tap and had the dining week lunch special. I ordered the farmhouse chicken salad and my sister had the roasted mushroom ravioli. It comes with roasted butternut squash soap but my sister wanted a Caesar salad because they use chicken base for the soup (vegetarian). Food came out fast and looked mouthwatering... The farmhouse chicken salad was delicious. It was more of a warm salad with different kinds of greens. The chicken was definitely not lacking in taste. The dressing ties the salad together making the dish more of a comfort food feel. My sister loved her pasta dish which she devoured immediately. We then decided on dessert even though I was already starting to feel stuffed. We shared the chocolate mousse cake and rum cake. Both tasted great but since we were already full there was no way of finishing them. I'm so glad to have experience dining week at Chop downtown. To be honest with all the hustle and bustle of being in downtown I rarely venture down these streets ... Now I'll be visting downtown more often ( during weekends ;)) read more

I ordered the crab cakes. They suck. First of all the waitress walked out with them at crotch level. So I smell fish. So I look to the right. So then I see how she is presenting herself... with the crab cakes and at what level. So I taste them. They were wet and soggy. This is my new pregame hangout for oilers games. Went in on a Saturday night pregame and found a seat no problem. It was double Hendricks gin night and wow.... the best gin and tonic I've ever had. They put cucumber and star anise in it with some lemon and lots of love... I had to get a second one. My steak was arguably the best overcooked steak I've ever had..... they comped it because it wasn't cooked right and we didn't have time to get it fixed before the game. I'm a New Yorker. How I ended up at this Edmontonian establishment in the dead of winter is a story reserved for my therapist, so let's just dish about the food, mmkay? My party was just four, but we felt we hit all corners of the menu (except the salads, because fuck salads). The steaks were all properly cooked. I'll give them that, but the ribeye was too fatty for my liking. The tartare was on point as well. And Canada just gets onion rings right. I had the surf and turf (steak and crab legs) and whilst ordering nobody reminded me that Edmonton is a three hour flight away from either ocean. My ex-girlfriend ordered the salmon. She got salmon at a steakhouse. That's why she's an ex-girlfriend. Anyway the service was really good and friendly, the food is decent, avoid the crab legs, get the onion rings, and if she orders the salmon, she probably from Calgary. Medium rare steak was delivered medium well in the center by optimistic standards (less than 1/8 inch of a light pink sliver showing) Had to wait for a manager to come to assess the steak. When the new steak was brought out I was told how if I would like a more "rare" steak I should make it known when I order. New steak was rare at best but I ate it because I couldn't stand watching even more meat go waste A $25 meat thermometer would go a long ways at this restaurant. Well we're back after our wonderful experience on Valentine's Day. We decided last minute to come here because of the atmosphere. Also, I was pretty sure the food would be good. The service as excellent and all the staff were very well dressed and groomed and all wearing smiles. They had a special on for V day. 3 course meal for $50 each. Excluding beverages and gratuity. We both started with the Caesar salad which came out with in minutes. I had the 7oz prime rib with roasted vegetables. It was absolutely delicious The cut of meat was a bit on the thin side but nonetheless it was fabulous for sure. I also decided to try a Alberta Micro brewery they still have on tap. Brewed by Wild rose brewery. It's called Wred Wheat. An extremely smooth American dark wheat ale and delicious tasting. If you are a lover of good beer this should definitely be added to your list. She had the 7oz top sirloin with baked potato. Which was also fantastic. For desert we shared the blackberry cheesecake. Omg I love cheesecake! It too was spectacular. After we had paid our bill and were leaving we were stopped by Michelle I do believe that is her name. She asked us how the evening was and I was happy got say excellent. She then asked me to hang in for a second and when she returned she handed me a $25 gift card. As I mentioned we are back and are looking forward ti another excellent meal and evening with the staff here at Chop Downtown. Keep your eyes peeled for my second review of this fine establishment. Wow. Just Wow. This was the third stop on a food crawl of downtown, and while we were full when we got there, we couldn't stop eating! Oh man. The locally sourced meat is cooked to perfection, the sides are creative (old cheddar mac & cheese, anyone?), and everything is cooked with care! Even the steak bite appies, which at most places are made with the scrap cuts of meat, are made with premium cuts, and you can taste it in every garlicy-spiced-tender bite! I've been a fan of Chop for a while, but usually frequent the Ellerslie location, but this location is classy, elegant and ready to do business with the downtown crowd! On two floors, it's got lots of nooks and crannies to meet in or host private events. The drinks were on point, and from someone who is not a big Caesar person (I don't like Clamato! Give me a Bloody Mary any day), but their Double Black Caesar was AMAZING! It's something I would actually order for myself. We also tried the Wild Rose Barracks Brown Ale, which was caramally and smooth. So tasty. I would go back here any day for a bite to eat or a business meeting. read more

Here's a place to come if you want to see lots of legs, hear lots of noise, and eat decent food. The lunch time crowd comprised of mainly men in suits taking extra long 'business' lunches. It was a Friday and we were able to get a table after 12:30. They have some booths they are large enough to fit a family of 6-8 or if you're date stinks, you can sit very far away from them. Or if you prefer to be a little closer, they have bar stools and tables. The menu has the usual salads, sandwiches, and steak. My chicken sandwich with Caesar salad was decent and nothing special. I'm glad I asked for the dressing on the side as it was thick enough to paint with. I lightly touched my lettuce with it. The sandwich was chicken, lettuce, and tomato on a roll. I think there was bacon too. Service was ok and food didn't take too long to come out. May come back as it's a convenient location but I wouldn't make a special trip here. read more

Quite honestly I was wowed by my first and only visit here as part of a preview of the menu here for Rodeo Week (Nov 6-15). I had some absolutely delicious peppermint tea which was served to me in a neat contraption to accompany my food. The tea helped me digest and then we got some hors d'oeuvres: steak bites, tempura vegetables, tuna tataki, and mini yorkshires with meat in them, as well as a couple entrees of 22 oz steaks (18 oz each without the bone) with pesto tomatoes, mashed potatoes, white cheddar mac 'n' cheese and of course a delicious amount of spices including garlic cloves etc. Stefan, the sales and special events coordinator explained to us all the different uses of this space and was truly hospitable while delivering us our food and beverages. We were served quickly and efficiently and all of our food was quite delectable though I'm not sure if I'm a fan of the mashed potatoes as wasabi isn't always a flavour I appreciate in non-Asian dishes. The meat was the highlight of our visit, but I also adored the white cheddar mac 'n' cheese. The tuna tataki was remarkably delicious (I often don't find this dish to be done very well, so I was pleasantly surprised). The steak bites appetizer is one that I would certainly recommend. The beverage selection that they can serve is outstanding (including alcoholic and non!), and I'd be tempted to come back for those alone. The single stall washroom on the ground floor of the restaurant seemed a bit odd to some of our group, especially given the size of the restaurant, but there are additional washrooms on the second floor. I liked hearing about the private rooms available for groups. I came here for lunch with my husband for Downtown Dining Week 2017. $15 got you a butternut squash soup to start and your choice of entree. Options included an open faced prime rib sandwich; farmhouse chicken salad; Chop burger; Chop salad; Carolina club; or roasted mushroom ravioli. The roasted butternut squash soup to start was perfectly done - creamy, flavourful and indulgent. I chose the prime rib sandwich and unfortunately it was not great. The meat lacked flavour and was on the well done side. The fries were over cooked and lukewarm. We opted to order the house gravy with the fries and happy we did though because it was good! I ended up dipping my sandwich into the gravy just to be able to eat it. My husband ordered the Chop burger and it too was just okay. There are way better burger options in the city (XIX and Cactus Club) for your money. I also ordered a white sangria with my meal. I found it to be too watery (way too much ice for the amount of sangria you get) so needless to say it was a let down. On the bright side our server was very good! He came to check on us regularly and was pleasant. We dined upstairs in the dining room area. The space itself is cozy but well done. read more

Eaten here a few times now, most recently for a Birthday get together we sat in a nice corner room with 5 round tables. I love round tables for groups i find it more social. We ordered drinks and food the service started out great. Our food we shared the lobster and scallops with Crustini it was full of flavour. We then had a prime rib med rare and wow absolutely gorgeous a fine big piece of meat that just melted in our mouths the other main was filet minion again a lovely cut of meat and cut like butter. The only downfall was after that dinner was cleared we were kind of abandoned we had to wait a very long time for our bills they came out one by one very slowly and not always correct. The wait was definitely worth it though. Tried the water melon salad and it was great, the sauce had amazing flavour. I can see myself becoming addicted to this item very easily! After waiting 10 mins for her to come back and correct (I waved over to the servers chatting by the bar station several times) I took it to the server and she argued with me that I ordered a Diet Coke (those two are very different things, try saying it out loud to compare). When my old fashioned came it was full to the brim and watered down. A little while later I had to go to the bar and order my next drink (I went with beer this time because of the previous screw up). Told the bartender other people wanted to order and our server showed up 15 mins later and took one persons drink order, skipped the other person. Servers were more interested in chatting with each other at the bar than doing their jobs. Server or bartender watered down the old fashioned because I had the nerve to ask for service. I'm always on the hunt for a great steakhouse! My friends made reservations here for new years, and we all came in super excited for a good steak. This place has a really nice interior- tons of seating, good lighting, not too loud, and multiple levels. There is a huge bar with seating all around, and decent space between all the tables. We ordered a seafood dip and the steak bites for appetizers. The dip was phenomenal, but the steak bites were chewy. I had the steak and crab cake for my meal and loved it. Very delicious, and I found the price to be quite reasonable. We also ordered several different types of drinks. I enjoyed a Moscow Mule (they did it just right) and the house red was really nice. I think the server and I had kind of a weird vibe between us. I'm not sure what I did that might have offended her (maybe I'm just awkward)- she was very good to our table, but seemed to avoid me. She seemed good at her job though- maybe just new. It was a little annoying that the bathrooms are located up on the second floor, and there is always a staff member with a big tray of food on those narrow stairs. I would have felt terrible if I had bumped someone and spilled that delicious food, but it didn't happen, so phew! Great drinks, great steaks- get in there, bud! read more
