Great store for back and current comic books. Large selection of graphic novels and hundreds of comic boxes. The owner is helpful and greets everyone. Only reason this is not a 5 star is that it is very cramped which makes it difficult to search through back issues. I did hear him saying he will be moving soon. The owner is very friendly and helpful.. cards could be a little pricier than some of the larger comic book/card stores but he's willing to negotiate a "fair price". The selection of sports cards are pretty decent, he also has Pokémon and I think magic the gathering cards (Not 100% sure). The comic book selection is one of the larger selections I've seen for a hole in the wall. I'm not big into comics but from what I've seen and heard from other customers browsing the store he has the most up to date selection of books and materials. Came here with an open mind after reading reviews and was excited to see the selection of products. Was hoping to get some last minute gifts for Christmas for my daughter. Another customer mentioned they were looking for the latest set of Pokémon cards Surging Sparks. The owner told them that he could order it now but the box was 240+. And I felt for him, those box prices are ridiculous and I don't blame him for not carrying them. All I did was mention to those customers you can look at wegmans and the dollar stores and they might be able to find them there(this was for their kids Christmas presents, mind you). And I was making casual conversation with them when the owner confronted me about this and told me how I was taking away business and how disrespectful it was to mention another place to them to buy it from since they could still order it from him. But again, he mentioned the high price tag again. He said more things during this "conversation" but I digress. What an immensely rude and bad natured person this owner is. If he was so upset about not having that set then he should keep it in stock. And every card store I've ever been to would recommend a place to get something that the person can't find at theirs. I guess I'm just surprised how awful he would treat a new customer, or anyone for that matter. At least he fed his dog a treat when I was there, happy to see the dog is treated kindly. read more

Multiple times I have come here on their posted hours and the owner simply wasn't there. The first time, I decided to wait and he showed up an hour after doors were supposed to open. On 2 other occasions I waited about a half hour and just left. He gets 2 stars for selection of Pokémon products, but absolutely scalper prices. He also will not tell you prices over the phone, forcing you to go there in person, only to find out he's barely ever there. Don't waste your time or money. If anyone needs suggestions for another LCS I can suggest other places. read more

Took my out of state friend here on Friday to show him all the good comic book shops in the Buffalo area. The store itself isn't huge, but the space is incredibly utilized. This place has thousands of comic books, manga, cards, collectibles, and all the cool things that go along with it. One thing that separates this place from most of the other comic stores in the area is the fact that you automatically get 25% off of the cover price of every single comic in the store, how cool is that? It's super cool. The staff here is also super friendly and knowledgeable, and if you are looking for something you can't find they have thousands of more downstairs that they will check to see if they have it. Overall, this place has won me over as my go-to for comics, I highly recommend checking this place out! read more

I have to admit I was baffled at some of the negative reviews and comments on the staff. I have to say that the owner is not a gregarious sort, but he is intelligent, polite, and very helpfully. If the place is empty he will chat, but if there are other customers he won't hesitate to pause his conversation to check with someone else to see if they need help etc. I have never found any of the issues regarding the staff that people have 'reportedly had' with customers not being the number 1 priority. The place has a great deal of stock and if you don't find your items or have a lot of time you should always ask, I have never gotten anything, but friendly helpful service and knowledgeable responses to my questions. Prices, discounts, selection, supplies are all very good and even for someone like me on a smaller budget I am made to feel like a valued customer and welcomed back. There is so much stock it is unreal, especially considering it is not a big place. The space is well utilized and though a bit cramped if you and another customer are trying to get in the same general area I have always met with friendly polite people to ease any of those issues. I don't like tight spaces (nor fit well in them), but the place is bright and well-organized which eases those issues. The owner is very earnest and honest and won't try to sell you on something you don't want, He will give you his honest opinion and share his considerable knowledge. Over the years I have been in a lot of comic shops and I find this one to be one of the best. Lots of selection, fair pricing, good staff, organized, clean, friendly, knowledgeable, and bright. Would it be great the have a couple more feet here and there? Sure, but when you check so any other boxes that is a small thing! read more

This place is truly a gem in the market for cards, comics, and action figures. It's a small place but what's inside is just unbelievable. The owner is a pretty cool guy with a ton of knowledge about different comics, and they've got just about anything you could possibly want available. He's got cards from all the major games, and many that are on the older side and more difficult to find. He also has fantastic prices, cheaper than almost anywhere I've ever seen! Action figures and other special collectables are here as well in various places. Overall a great stop to browse, find a new comic, or whatever you collect. read more

TLDR: Owner is rude and demeans his customers. I should have read Google reviews first to see how unprofessional he is. Bought a comic from this store on EBay. When it arrived, I opened the package and John included the wrong book. No, biggie, right? I opened a return and that's when things got ugly. John accused me of lying about which book I received even after I sent him pictures of the book and the packaging. He continued to berate me through messages about how I was lying. The comic I ordered was a $3 issue, not rare, not particularly sought after...I had no reason to lie or scam at all. I even sent him my purchase history to show that I bought the same issue after we started this whole process and figured out I wasn't going to get the issue I ordered from John. I won't be back and I would definitely recommend avoiding this shop if you have other options... read more

This place is a great little gem and an awesome resource for not just cards of all types, but also comic books, action figures, anime and some rare items you might not easily find anywhere else. The place is tiny and cramped and packed to the nine with awesome stuff, so be prepared to dig around. Look high, look low, look behind the counter and dont be afraid to ask! The guy at the counter may come off a bit cold, but I assure you if you take the time to get to know him and appreciate his expertise he is super cool and VERY nice. He has gone out of his way to help me and my family find special items on several occasions and is always willing to answer your questions. Dont expect him to know where every little thing is, or if he has it - you will HAVE to look around, BUT things are very well organized and labeled. Definately recommend you make a stop here if you are into comics, figures, statues, cards and/or toys and other fun stuff!!! Card Store is awesome !!! read more

Here's a little history of The Card Store as I remember it. It started off in the mid 90's as Seneca Comics, a tiny little comic shop on Seneca Street in South Buffalo, just as comic book shops were springing up all around due to the insane comic boom of the early 90's. Shortly thereafter, the owner moved it to Abbot in South Buffalo, interestingly still calling it Seneca Comics. Eventually, it would find its final resting place on Union Rd. in Cheektowaga. At some point it was renamed "The Card Shop" when I assume he switched his focus from comics to cards after the comic boom went bust. The Good: This is probably the best comic book shop left in the area. I'm cheap and impatient, in that order, so price and selection are important. New books are discounted 25% and the selection of graphic novels and trades are second to none locally. This makes The Card Shop the only local place to compete with Amazon in my opinion. This place is stuffed to the gills with stuff. The Bad: Remember when I said it was stuffed to the gills, well, if you're claustrophobic this place may not be for you. It's not easy to get around and the amount of stock is almost overwhelming. The walls are literally filled with trades and back issues. The owner tends to be rather helpful in assisting you in finding stuff, but since he's the only person I've ever seen working there sometimes getting his attention can be hard. Another downside is, while he carries most of the larger indy comics and graphic novels, the selection can be limited. He also doesn't carry much if any small press stuff (like Don's Atomic Comics used to), which I tend to be more into. But, considering the spatial limitations, you really can't carry everything. Gutter Pop Comics fills that void locally. The Ugly: I have to say, the name makes me gag a little. If you're a comic book fan you're probably not a trading/game card fan and vice versa. But it's 2019, comics have been a dying media for some time, and you gotta keep the lights on... so here we are. I guess it makes more sense than continuing to call it Seneca Comics and Cards (or Cards and Comics)... I guess? It still makes me feel dirty and not in a good way. Summary: This place is great for what it is. Would I prefer there to be more room and more indy comics? Sure, but this place checks so many other boxes, it doesn't really matter. This is my go-to comic shop, hands down. The name is almost misleading, because while the trading/gaming card selection is impressive, the store is most full of comic books. When I say full, I mean you will find anything here. Whether you're seeking older books, brand new releases, you name it, they probably have it. There is a huge selection of trading/gaming cards (not my area of interest). There are collectable statues and figures. This store has everything. I go in on a weekly basis to pick up my ongoing comic books. The owner/operator is an awesome guy. Very friendly, extremely knowledgable, and always willing to help and advise the customer. To summarize, I'd probably re-name this place "The Comic Book Store" because while gaming and card fans would definitely be satisfied here, comic book fans would be so far beyond satisfied. Every single time I go here I deal with rude staff. If you need to find a certain comic or have a question or even just need to be cashed out that is the last thing they will do and they will take their time stocking or just talking to each other or on the phone with friends before they help you at all. Unfortunately they are the closest comic book store to me. I still avoid them at all costs and drive the extra distance but today I didn't feel like it so I call them to see if they have a certain comic, the worker says oh I have no idea. *awkward silence* when did it come out? I reply, idk a couple months ago. He says yeah I'm actually doing something right now, do you want to just come in or call back later? Constantly hear about people having problems at this store. Well worth driving the extra 10 minutes to another store where the workers are actually friendly and want your business. read more

Now this is my first review through this site in particular so please bare with me. I recently moved to Western NY from Central NY in other words Syracuse and that being said I'm a steady collector of comic books as well. I used to go to my local shop by the name of Collectibles Galore and a few others such as Cloud City and always had a wonderful experience walking through the door. So since being in this new location I decided to research this areas local collectible stores and I had found this one in particular being recommended by my last shop owner and seeing decent reviews here at that point I was very interested. I must say at first glance also, walking through Cardstores door was like walking into my kind of paradise, but, my short lived experience had changed that view for the worse. I had begun my search immediately and as I had started to look I had also started to realize that being a tall 6'6 at a weight of 200+ pounds it was extremely cramped and hard for me to get a look at everything as well as getting around every corner. So I worked my way to the back from the front, which was not very far of a distance keep in mind. I was at that point just looking for a cheap $1 box that I've seem to of found in most other shops but before I decided to ask about such a box. I happened to over hear the younger co-worker of my guess the owner speak about another customer who might of recently been in there before me in a rather malicious manner. Basically putting down the customer for not knowing exactly what he wanted and assuming that he didn't have enough money for the items he did want. Therefore I assumed that I must know what I'm going to ask for and these guys aren't into value buys in anyway and I learned that was true after asking for some specific books such as the Mcfarlane Spider-Man issues and Mcfarlane Spawn Homage covers. When I did actually ask for those somewhat specifics I was asked in response what issues I was looking for in particular repeatedly...anyway, the owner had pointed out to his co-worker where the boxes containing what I was asking for was except the homage covers he made a point to tell me how those have bumped up in price, what a surprise. My issues with personal space really started to kick in at this point. They had to pull up a stool, to set the box on top of and did so right in the middle of their work space. Therefore I had to move over or out of the way every about 10 seconds to actually continue through the box. As I did though I started to notice the prices on the exterior of the sleeves, full price on everything I looked at and they were not all in a 9.8 condition in no way. So while all of that was going on, the owner randomly had decided to tell me that he does a 20% off deal of some sort for most people. Still didn't interest me based on what I had heard and seen, so I made my way back away from those two in the best orderly fashion I could with no space and complete congestion. From there on I had shortly made my way back to the "front" of the store to give everything one last look over in case I might find gold, didn't happen. While I was pretty much at that point, on my way out I had over heard again, the co-worker begin to lower his voice and ask the owner what I was looking for as if it was that important. As far as I'm concerned I feel that I'll be the one to decide what I'm looking for and when. So all in all I've never had such a bad experience like that at any store for comics I have ever been to. I personally feel the point of a comic book store is too have fun and possibly find gold or something new to get into for a good price. This is not the place for that in my humble opinion. I will not give up on western NY's comic book scene though I'm sure there some great ones out here but I will not be wasting my time with that place again. Here's some advice to both of them from yours truly, you're in the comic book business, something a lot of people dream to be in, have some humility and cheer up. read more
