I am relatively new to the LGS (Local Game Store) world but I am so happy to have found Gather & Game. This is a great little shop with TONS of stuff going on and plenty of inventory no matter what games you're looking for. I have recently started to get into trading cards and there is so much to learn and know about them. The staff here is super knowledgeable and friendly to help you with questions every step of the way. The shop is very welcoming, inclusive, and helpful to anyone from beginners to seasoned gamers. I recently attended a couple of events here and they were both well attended and very beginner friendly. What a fun concept for a café. My daughter and I came and joined others for a game called Codenames. I love that you can pay a small fee and play games on site. Have you heard?!?! Buffalo finally has its very own game cafe!!! Oh man! I have been waiting for years for one to open in Buffalo and even talked with my girlfriend about the possibility of opening our own. I am so happy the wait is over! Gather & Game is super chill, super friendly and has great prices. My girlfriend and I came here Saturday after an early afternoon of hiking, I immediately fell in love with the place. I got talking with... whom I think was the owner, sorry I forgot his name, but he was super friendly and helpful. We got talking a bit of DnD and he mentioned they were having a one-shot session at the end of the month and if I was interested I could reserve a seat at the table. You know I immediately jumped on that opportunity! On Saturday's they have tournaments, this Saturday was Ticket to Ride. Since my girlfriend doesn't really like that game we picked a table and a couple of games. They even recommended a game for us when we mentioned another game we liked. I really liked that they can also help you figure out how to play a game. After we were having a hard time figuring out how to play Honshu we asked one of the guys that worked there if he could help us out. Kevin, who had never played the game helped us figure it out. We played it a couple of times, it would be an awesome game with 3 or four people. The final score was a tie. I am really looking forward to going back maybe even get a year membership ($25) and/or join a tournament or two. I would highly recommend visiting with friends, it's only $3 per person to play, they have over 100 games to choose from. read more

I first went to gather and game for a yelp elite event and immediately love it! I ended up buying two 1 year memberships for me and my fiancé. We got free passes for friends with the membership. I think it was $25 for the membership for the year. To come and play it's $3/person. We love playing games! Buying each game can get expensive, so it's nice that we are able to go to a place to play from the game library. And if we love the game enough, we can buy it on site! I have gone three times and each time the owner asks what type of game we are in the mood for and will recommend a game to play. He always explains the rules and answers any questions we have. They have light snacks and drinks available (they have Le Croix water which is my absolute favorite!) If you ever are interested in learning about a role playing game like dungeons and dragons, they offer a class to teach the basics since it is intense to learn. Every Saturday they also have a tournament for a different game, and it's $5 to buy into that. Cant wait to go back! read more

From the people who brought us Westside Stories bookstore comes Gather & Game. Woohoo! First, the space is very pretty. It's open, with a lot of color and light. With that, along with the fixtures, it seems like a pretty modern place. It creates a setting that would encourage long gaming session or just being able to have a great time over a game. Second, the business. There's two basic parts to it. It is a store to buy games, where you can find some of the latest board and card games for your personal enjoyment. I don't think there's many places around that sell most of these games. The staff know the games too, so it's easy to ask questions and get directed to the best one(s) for you. The other part is a game library. If you are interested in a game, but aren't sure yet, you can pay a small fee to play games from the library. It's great to try out as many as you'd like! The space, as I said, is open and has a good amount of tables to play. The shop also has snacks, coffee, and bottled soda and such. I'm super excited for when summer comes around. I think this place would be great to have youth gather, play some games, and get to meet others. I appreciate the fact that it is alcohol free too - makes it kid friendly and also great for adults who want to have fun but not over drinks. read more

Gather & Game is a much-needed and fantastic addition to the Buffalo west side! My wife and I strolled in on a Sunday afternoon to just "check it out" since it was set to close in 15 minutes. We got talking to the owner Joe and were playing a game within minutes after he personally gave us a rules breakdown of our selection. Afterwards we had a great chat, talked about some favourite games and I even pre-ordered a new game that's set to be released in the fall. $3 gets you unlimited play per visit and $25 buys you a membership for a year of free play. They also have tournament nights (with a TV screen ticker showing victors and high-scores) and learn-to-play nights that rotate different games. The store has a varied selection of games already and Joe hopes to add a game a week to keep it growing. From euros to strategy games and abstract to party games, there is something for everyone's interest and skill level. There are classics like Catan and Ticket to Ride, but also plenty of new and modern favourites like Spirit Island, Clank and Gloomhaven. Many of these and other games are available for purchase as well, with a substantial retail section in the back of the store that includes tabletop books, Magic cards and miniatures. Hot beverages and snacks are also available for purchase, including cookies from nearby local bakery Breadhive. Wow- was invited here by my friend, and honestly it was so much fun. If you like games (board/card/dice/role play/etc) there is a huge selection to play and to purchase. You can get a yearly membership for unlimited play, but there are various other deals for free play or just the standard $3 fee to play a game. I love that you can just pick a game/try a variety of games out before you purchase them, or just learn how to play new games instead of the standard selection you have at home. They also teach games, i.e. offer group classes for beginner D&D if you are interested in that! I think it's a really good idea and in a good location, I would recommend everyone who loves a good game keep this place in mind! I started following them on Instagram awhile ago, after finding out about them through Westside Stories, the used book store that shares the same owners (the best used bookstore in the area, in my opinion). I'm not a huge board game aficionado - more the type who will play board games when my fiance or friends wish to. While I enjoy many games, I get frustrated easily at learning games with really complex rules, and it always bothers me when I drop $40-60 on a new game only to find out that it's not my style. Enter Gather & Game! For only $3 you can get unlimited play, and my fiance has invested in a $25 annual membership which includes free unlimited play, a one time guest pass, and 10% off all purchases. Gather & Game is the perfect space to try out any game from the wide variety of options available on their game wall. It really is the ideal opportunity to try out a game to see if you like it before you purchase it - no more need for buyer's remorse. One cool touch is that the boxes are marked with stickers color coordinated to which staff members are familiar with the game - makes it convenient to ask for a recommendation, or explanation of the finer points of the rules. The games themselves are in really excellent condition considering how many hands have touched them. They have a number of tables for you to set up at with your friends, and towards the back of the shop is their retail space for games that are thoughtfully organized by genre. The space is modern yet cozy, brightly lit but in a vintage-feeling space, clean and organized yet feels homey - really the perfect tone for playing games with your friends. The crown jewel of the place that makes you want to return time and again, though, is the owner. He is so friendly, knowledgeable, and approachable and is the exact blend of kind and quirky that you'd imagine in a game store owner. For someone like me who gets frustrated learning complex games, it's great to feel really relaxed and know that if I need help it's available to me from someone who's not going to make me feel dumb. They put on a variety of events throughout the month that you can keep up with on their instagram - we're definitely going to make it a point to come to some of their tournament nights in the near future! Some hopefully helpful opinions for the owners: $3 is so cheap! We were totally surprised at the affordability of it, to the point that you could get away with charging at least double without any eyebrow raising. Being a board game fanatic myself, Gather & Game is a place that I knew I had to check out. This place is a little on the smaller side, but surprisingly wasn't that busy for a Saturday afternoon. Perhaps the best part about this place is how cheap it is. You can pay for a yearly membership which is unlimited play for $25 a year OR do unlimited play for the day for $3 per person. They have a game library of over 150 different games, as well as several games for purchase to bring home. The games are also color coordinated with stickers. Each color sticker represents a staff member that knows and can explain the game which I thought was very helpful! I was also surprised about how well intact all of the games are. Most of the time when I go to a cafe or restaurant with board games there's almost always a missing character, or handful of missing cards. Every one of the games I played had every single piece included, even the ones that had a LOT of pieces. This place also has drinks and small snacks for purchase. Think of sodas, hot water for tea, chips and nuts. The only thing I wish this place had was more fulfilling items such as sandwiches or entrees. However, this is probably not a viable option as it reduces the risk of damaging or getting the board games dirty. Overall I would definitely recommend checking this place out. Be careful though, if you're like me you may end up staying several hours longer than you intended! read more

Gather and Game is a uniquely fun place in Buffalo. The price to play is reasonable, the selection of games is wide, and the owner is very helpful in teaching players new games (we played Carcassonne). I'm not usually a big fan of board games, but I've had enough fun to return twice in one week. This is also one of the few entertainment venues in Buffalo where you can't buy an alcoholic drink, which is refreshing.
