For a friend's family event, I was fortunate to visit this gem of a catering location. The venue is massive and can hold parties small or big. With a full liquor bar in the hallway, its a great pitstop during an event or pre-event. The staff that night was attentive, friendly and courteous. The catered food was Indo-Chinese appetizers and an Indian full-course menu, which I believe was from on premises. With plenty of parking space outside with valet service, this place has a lot to offer. The venue has a European style architecture and a lawn that too can offer space, however I was here on a cold frigid evening so did not get to experience that place. read more

My best friend had her wedding here and the service was phenomenal. I was in the bridal party and we had a huge bridal room and groom room that were locked once we went off to the ceremony in the garden. We had servers bring us a couples portuguese appetizers as we waited to get the ceremony started and even brought us drinks. Everyone here was very accommodating. It would be nice if management would contact me to discuss the return of my deposit as promised in an e-mail from April. It is only fair since I received no services. My coworker was just there to help set up for a party that was being held at this location. Not only did the owner/manager give my coworker a bad attitude when HELPING their staff set up for THEIR party, but constantly kept saying 'get out of my kitchen.' Our job was only to deliver the food to the banquet, not set it up. The host had asked my coworker to help set up, so out of then kindness of my coworker's heart, he helped. My fish was bland and overpriced. server made so many errors it was nearly comical and it really interrupted the entire presentation. then staff had a bad attitude about it. Hotel room was pretty - but ventilation in the building sucks. Overall a frustrating experience and I would avoid The Castle. Overpriced. Overrated. Poor service. I live right down the street from this place and had been a few times when it was Solar do Minho. Noticing it was under new ownership and rebranded, I headed over with my boyfriend on a weekday evening for dinner. We arrived at around 7:30 and there was a large group eating, but otherwise it was pretty empty. We were seated right away and I immediately fell in love with the decor. It was so rustic, spacious and relaxing- almost like a cabin getaway. To start we were given olives and bread- my boyfriend doesn't like olives so I got to have them all to myself and they were delicious. I was sopping up the oil and garlic that they were soaked in with my bread- yummy. For entrees my boyfriend ordered the t-bone steak and I ordered the chicken breast in white wine and garlic sauce. The portions here, like most Portuguese restaurants, were enormous. My boyfriend's steak was so huge- I took a picture of him eating it and sent it to his mom, almost like a gag picture. My portion was huge as well and contained 4 sliced chicken breasts- I had enough for a big dinner the next night as well. The sauce on the chicken was also amazing and caused me to consume even more bread as I soaked it up. Both entrees came with the Portuguese thinly sliced potatoes and veggies. All in all, great food, huge portions and very atmospheric. I definitely plan on going back and will consider having any future special occasions here because it looks good for groups and they have a patio area as well. First time here. Came with my family for a Sunday late lunch. Had calamari for appetizer ,it was ok, sangria needed more citrus and for my entree I had the Portuguese Beef which was very good. The place looks very nice inside and outside and felt very comfortable. The service needs to be improved tho. When it came to my turn to tell the waiter my entree he asked "what's that" lol... My suggestion to the staff is please learn what's on your menu!!!! read more

Horrible!!!! This was a second party we have thrown at The Castle.. first one was good, second one horrendous! It was my sons christening party. We had about 85 people attend.. the hall was dirty, carpets not vacuumed, tables were so old and had staples and holes see though the linens. The hall that leads into the room had spiders and spider webs ... the food was poorly displayed, steaks were so hard and overcooked that is was impossible to eat, my kids and guests asked for replacement.. the cake was cut into chunks and placed on the side table, also they just brought out plastic forks and left them in the box.. I was so embarrassed and disappointed! I will never ever come back to the Castle. They also served our guests bagel bites!!! How humiliating!!!!!! staff is rude and incompetent, except for Laura ( she is very sweet). For $70 a plate this was a horrible experience... my whole family is so embarrassed !!!! Absolutely disgusted with this establishment!! I understand there are COVID restrictions on indoor dining and events, but to not even have the decency to contact your patrons with events booked for your venue with regards to rescheduling or refunding deposits is completely horrendous. I have read complaints from several people about the lack of communication and the thousands of dollars worth of deposits obtained without any recourse on getting refunds. We have all been patient during this unique and trying time, but now your only listed phone number is inactive your emails are being returned undeliverable, there are chains on the doors and everyone is left in limbo wondering what's going on !!! I've been to this place when it was under another name. Even though being renamed it was still the same vibe on the inside, the menu seemed the same and even the dishes and rugs still had the emblem from the old establishment. The one thing I know I wasn't really a fan of previously was the food but let me say that has changed. We had an event here with 20 of us and once we arrived there were pitches of sangria, coke and water on the tables. In addition to that olives and butter were also present. This allowed us to start nibbling on somethings while everyone arrived. Then the appetizers started coming in garlic shrimp, stuffed mushrooms, chorizo and fried calamari. After these dishes I had no idea if I would actually be able to eat my dinner. I ordered a Portuguese steak which is a steak with ham and a sunnnyside up egg with a side of chips. I was right the portion was so huge that I had to box some of it up but it was all so tasty. Great service, great food and great ambiance. read more

Wow, simply amazing experience. Went here for a party one of my friends was having in their banquet. The place lives up to its name "The Castle". It is grand and elegantly designed. The food quality was very good as compared to other places I have been to in the central jersey area. Noticed they had a restaurant and bar, a week later stopped back. The bar is spacious, has a lounge feel to it. The mixed drinks were good and the place had a good vibe. After a drink, we sat down for dinner. We had the chicken and fish dish. The food portions were great and were delicious. Will definitely have to stop in again with a few more friends and try more things. read more

Ok so we just went there for a wedding. The venue was bad, the DJ was horrible, the camera guy used his phone camera- so you get the idea- everything was low budget. So now to the reason for the poor review of the venue. Arrival time was 3- or so the invitation said- got there they were setting up at 3 still. The buffet hors D'oeuvres were put out like 5 mins before they introduced the couple 1 hr after you were said to arrive. There was a coke and water pitcher on the table. There was no juice for the kids. The water pitcher never was replenished during the event. Then we did get a pitcher of Sangria- it was watered down and lacked any real flavor. The food was ahhh and presentation was even worse. Asked for more bread- still waiting on that one. The soup was gritty and lacking any flavor or spice. The food was not presentible. Thr shrimp was rubbery and bland. The sides were put on the tables 15-20 minutes prior to the entrees and your plates. The chicken francaise never was given out not real sure why it was offered as a option. The fish reeked,was not good and couldn't be remove it from my plate fast enough. The steak was edible at best, but only gave you a butter knife to cut it- but really wasn't tender enough to be cut by a butter knife. The children didn't get plates unless you asked for them, and they never got their chicken nuggets they were offered. The wait staff 5 mins after giving you the food was every 3 mins after that asking if you were done so they could take your plate. The cake was handed out with plastic forks. Only wedding ever been to for which I was home by 9 pm, hungry and completely sober. The bathrooms were clean. At least no food poisoning, but seriously even if your looking to cut costs look elsewhere to book your event. read more

We had our son's baptism dinner at The Castle over the weekend, and what an amazing experience. The restaurant was clean, the staff was pleasant and super attentive, the food was delicious, and the space with the terrace is absolutely beautiful. Pedro the owner was present and so accommodating, and Sandra the host was as pleasant and you would imagine your host to be. Hands Down if you are thinking of a wedding reception or something of that nature the dining private room with the terrace is the place to be. Not one things could have gone better. The parking lot is tiny and the off site parking is a good walk especially if you are wearing heels. The bathroom has 3 stalls and one was out of order. A review mentioned lunch specials. There weren't any, just the regular dinner menu. We ordered a half pitcher of sangria because a review mentioned it as well. The server brought us a full pitcher, but she didn't speak English so we let it go. It tasted like jungle juice from a college party. Cheap booz and wine. We could only stomach 1 glass. Server also didn't take our food order. Finally she comes back with bread and takes our order. I asked for the bife a Portuguese, since someone mentioned it in a review. 40 minutes later the food came out. Again we're the only ones here. The food wasn't bad at all. Steak was cooked perfectly and had some flavor. We ate pretty quick because we'd already been there for an hour now. The server returned and we asked for the check. 10 minutes later she came back with the desert menu. We just want the check... She left and never came back. We waited for 20 minutes, left some cash on the table, and walked out. An hour and a half for a 1 course lunch is absolutely ridiculous especially when we're the only people there. If you can't support lunch, don't be open for lunch and don't hold us hostage. read more

This was the 1st time I've been here since the place re-opened as the Castle, and likely will be my last. I had probably the worst steak I can remember. . .twice. I asked for my steak done medium. It was served like a hockey puck. After sending it back (which I never do) the 2nd steak was barely cooked. Maybe they do seafood better? . I can't even tell you how disappointed I was with a dinner reservation at 7:30 p.m. for a party of 11 on December 16, 2016. We were not served dinner until 10:00 p.m. The service was horrible, slower then hell. Some of the dinners were incomplete, an example is the Penn Vodka was never served with the Garlic bread as per the menu. Another party had ordered the chicken marsala and never received her potatoes or vegetables with the meal, again as per the menu indicated. A few people in the party had to request silverware as they were taken after we finished our appetizers. Trying to get the waiters attention to request silverware was unbelievable. The facility was short in staff as other individuals from another party was also complaining. We could not order drinks due to the shortage of staff as they neglected to come around to take orders for additional drinks again due to the shortage of waiters. They came around only was the party first arrived which was at 7:30 p.m. The premises was very, very cold and was brought to the waiters attentions and his remark was "this is the East Coast" which was an inappropriate remark. I never anticipated that we would be dealing with some many problems/issues as this facility is used for banquets and should have expertise. I went to this place about two weeks ago for a regular dinner. The place looks very nice and elegant and was eager to taste the food. Well I ordered the chicken breast boneless in a garlic sauce, my bf ordered stuffed shrimp with crabmeat and as appetizers clams in a garlic wine sauce. As we waited they placed bread on our table, that was covered. To begin the bread was cold, I had to request for the bread to be warmed up. We got our clams, before I continue I must say I've been to some good restaurants and cook a lot of seafood myself. These classes were not cleaned properly, and they have been the worse clams I've ever tasted. I don't know how you really mess up clams. They were extremely salty, I just couldn't eat them. We received our dinner. I did receive 4 big pieces of chicken , in which I couldn't eat. As I tasted it, I felt as I was eating chicken in mushroom sauce instead of chicken in garlic sauce. This was disappointing . The provided a small side dish of yellow rice and vegetables. Again I was not happy and requested it to go. I figured I could drop it off to a family member on my way home, I am not one to toss food out. I tasted the stuff shrimp, and it was not to my favor. I tasted more crab meat flavor, then tasting a mix of both. We ordered sangria, but was not the best. I am not sure if they mixed it with Sunkist or what but it wasn't right. Overall, I would not recommend this place. It's over priced and if you have any knowledge on food, I'm sure you would agree with me. I also want to share that I ended up giving my left overs to my mother. She called me, without having any knowledge where I went to eat....and stated where did you buy Indian food? The food tasted lndian. I of course started laughing as we know it's a Portuguese restaurant with Indian owners. That to me everyone is irrelevant. I'm all about the quality of food. S T A Y - A W A Y --- We had had a Christening Party there a year ago ... it was fair to annoying - although it was Buffet style, we had to be chasing after the servers downstairs on the first floor to replenish of re-heat the food ... today, on our parent's 55th Anniversary: 90 minute wait for Sunday Dinner ... and we were the ONLY people on the dinning room side!!! --- True there was a party across the wall, BUT, these are supposed to be professionals ... the bread was stale, and we waited an additional 12 minutes for dessert (the place still had us as the ONLY ones on the restaurant side!!!) ... when I mentioned it to the head waiter, I think he either forgot how to speak English or could care less because the restaurant already had made US$ 200 of Eight Fools that were too reserved to call upon the owner (whom was not present for the more than 2 hours that we were eating stale bread with no butter) --- There are other terrific restaurants within 5 miles --- As I said STAY AWAY !!! read more
