The Doctor advised me not travel since the island is not properly equipped to handle my medical condition. Upon finding this I had to cancel my trip. Catalina Vacation Rental responded by refusing to return my money for the stay and when I reached out to call the women on the phone responded by saying " my medical condition was not their problem" and hung up. They are still refusing to communicate and try to make the situation better. The discrimination for having a medical disability is not acceptable.

Hamilton Cove is private property that was built on a mountain, so the street is not on the same level as the entrance to the room so be prepared to walk down four flights of stairs - or more depending on where your room is located. Keep this in mind if you plan to travel with heavy or have large items (e.g., stroller, cooler, etc.). Our rental unit offered the use of a golf cart to explore and that was one of the best features of the room: having access to a golf cart while on the island. The building and the room were very old, and it looked like there was some construction being done on the other side of the resort; but not in the room we were in. The one-bedroom, one-bathroom was spacious, but I am not sure I would stay there again unless there are some renovations done. Here are some key points we jotted about the room: -Four flights of stairs to get to the entrance of the room -Front door lock is hard to lock/unlock - when we were leaving, it was hard to tell if the door was locked at all -Half-painted wall (facing the ocean) -Broken wall outlet cover with cords hanging out -Broken and dirty curtains -Broken and dirty kitchen roller shades -Dirty kitchen windows (covered in bird waste) -Kitchen was on a slope - felt like you were leaning to one side (and would fall over) when you walked in -Plywood boards underneath the stove (to level it?) -Kitchen/bathroom (counter and floor) tile all need to be replaced -Shower was dirty - I wore my sandals while taking a shower -Balcony/patio deck had a VERY nice view; but the wood banister was chipped; there was no privacy/partition between the rooms on the same floor; there was only a BBQ on the right and a (tall wire) planter to the left to separate our balcony/patio from the other ones on the same floor. Again, golf cart was great to have but: -Key ignition broke when trying to start it -had to call maintenance to fix twice before we could use for the first time -had to take to the golf cart repair shop to get ignition fixed (we did not have to pay and it only took 30 minutes) I am glad that we did not have to deal with insects or bugs; since there was no air conditioning we had to keep the back patio doors open.

The views are stunning as you can see from my photos. When we initially arrived the door was not open as we had been told. It took 30 minutes of calls to get the property manager (Rita I believe) to come let us in. Apparently it was a miscommunication between the owner and the manager on site. It wasn't a very pleasant wait because we were pretty tired from a 4 hour cruise to the island. Additionally, the room had not been cleaned from the prior renters. However, the manager immediately got 2 maids on the job and they were very quick to do a great cleaning job. My review would definitely be 5 stars for this property if this hadn't happened. It wasn't the end of the world but it was an inconvenience that is pretty inexcusable for the rate we were paying. The condo itself was a 2 bedroom. It was modern and clean. Wireless internet. Flat screen TV and comfortable furniture. Full kitchen with everything you need. Oddly enough it didn't have air conditioning but on Catalina it's probably not necessary very often. Really enjoyable place to stay. Right down the hill was a very small beach area for swimming. There were also boats moored near shore so if you boat here you can secure your things nearby. The property has a security guard who screens who can enter it, which was nice. The guards we talked to were extremely friendly. Our room came with a golf cart and I'd definitely recommend that you secure one as well. It's not far to the main district, but it's not really walkable either. I'd highly suggest staying here. Just make sure to triple check that your room keys will be waiting!

The photos do not do it justice. The views are to die for. The condo is immaculately clean, the beds (including sofa bed and inflatable) are SO comfortable, the kitchen is well stocked for cooking at home. And the grounds crew do a phenomenal job of keeping the entire complex lovely,: pool is clean, even the gym, while antiquated, is 100% functional. The little private beach is rocky (consider water shoes) and the water is refreshing and clear. We played tons of putt putt (great course) with our adult/teen kids. The golf cart is so useful and fun to cruise around in. Our family had the exact vacation that we needed, relaxing, having fun, and really enjoying this beautiful, tastefully decorated condo. Had numerous stays at the Inn at Mt Ada and Pavillion over the last decades, but have found that the location of The Pavillion was it's big plus. The main issue over the last twenty years, is the Catalina Island Company taking the Avalon charm out and replacing it int a cash cow. Late in 2024, The Pavillion shut down for an overhaul, didn't reopen until April 1st of 2026. We were anxious to check out the improvements, but we're sadly disappointed. They DID upgrade the rooms to a certain extent, but increased the room charge to $100.00 + per night. They previously had a great breakfast included, along with an evening wine hour. The "breakfast" is now rolls, coffee, juice and cereal. The evening wine is restricted to one glass, closely monitored. They have a wine machine if u choose to pay an additional charge. From the increase in rates to the minimal extras, the hotel has definitely gone down hill. It's a small town with limited hotels in good locations, so you have to be content for getting price gouged for less services or go to the inner part of town and loose the waterfront charm. By the way, their reconstruction crew did a terrible job. The front door and sliders didn't work well. The sliders didn't lock, out of alignment and the entry door needed two hands to try forcing entry. Look forward to their response.

After removing the bedding, we discovered what appeared to be a large blood stain on the mattress that had clearly been covered up rather than properly addressed or the mattress replaced. This was not a small spot or minor issue -- this was human contamination hidden beneath the sheets where guests were expected to sleep. While the hotel did refund our entire stay, there truly was no other acceptable resolution given the severity of the situation. Refunding us does not erase how disturbing and unsanitary this experience was. As hospitality professionals ourselves, we know the standards that should be followed regarding guest safety, cleanliness, and biohazard protocols, which is exactly why this was so shocking to us. This was not simply an oversight in housekeeping -- it reflects a serious failure in hotel sanitation and management procedures. Guests should never have to question whether their sleeping environment has been properly cleaned and sanitized. We left extremely disappointed and honestly horrified that this condition was knowingly left for incoming guests.
