I was recently in dire need of some unique rosary beads for a party I was having with friends this weekend. Having worked in Madeira I knew of this tiny shop in the heart of downtown (if you can call a part of Madeira downtown). Even as a Catholic, I don't often have need for Catholic goods, but this place totally fit the bill for what I needed. Imagine all the Catholic related items in the Vatican. Now cram those items into a shoebox and you've got The Catholic Shop. I'm pretty sure we weren't handicap accessible, but there was a pretty great selection. I settled on a set of pink rosary beads that only set me back five bucks, but there were plenty of items that would have come at a much higher cost. Swarovski Crystal rosaries were selling for around $150. I thought this was maybe a bit pricey, but I don't often shop for Crystal. There was one employee working and she was quite friendly, even though when I entered the store I could not see her, as she was obscured by the profusion of Cathol paraphernalia. I can't think of a better place to go to for all of my Catholic needs: books, rosaries, statues, medals, movies, scapulars, prayer cards etc. You name it... the Catholic Shop has it! I've been coming here for the past 3 years now and almost always am able to find what I'm looking for! I was honestly a bit shocked when I saw the shop had a couple of bad reviews. I'll take you to the Catholic Shop, Go ahead girl, don't you stop. This place was great. It is in town town Madeira so not great as far as patking goes. I found a spot down the street a little ways so I wasn't too far. They clerk was rather friendly and instantlu knew what I was looking for. They have four rooms of stuff andd I saw several things thay I would have loved to have bought. Even though they didn't have what I was looking for they offered to order anything I needed. I would not recommend purchasing from this shop. Their customer service is poor, and even when they say they will not charge you the restocking fee to upgrade the product, they do. After many attempts at contacting them, finally after months they contacted me back, and of course with poor customer service. They do not conduct business in a professional manor, let alone Christian manor. Purchase your products elsewhere. Most of their merchandise can be found cheaper online anyway. read more

Visited Catholic Shop to shop for gifts and books a year or so ago, so this is late review :-(. The Catholic Shop has a well stocked CD and DVD collection, but no Gregorian Chant music, which would have been nice addition.They have a variety of pre-Vatican II books, a lot of Catholic art and picture frames at reasonable prices, and items for First Holy Communion and the other Sacraments. The store staff were very helpful and friendly, which made it easy to shop there. Parking is on the street in downtown Madeira. Will definitely visit again! + In JMJ + read more

Called about an item they had in stock on New Year's eve at about noon. Since I was tied up and really wanted the item for our home to start the year, I planned to buy it at the shop, have it blessed at Mass that night, then mount it in our home. I specifically asked how late someone would be there and the girl said 6pm - I was surprised they stayed open New Year's eve. I drove for an hour in pouring rain, got there a little after 4pm (along with 2 other cars of people). Yep! They were locked up tight. The other 2 options in the city had already closed!. I came home and ordered online. Over the years, I really felt close to those people, but if you say you'll be open till 6pm, better make sure someone's there! read more

I love this place! We go often to get what we need. The owner packs a lot in a small space and has good variety. You will not find questionable stuff, either. He recently helped me get a bunch of special rosaries for troops. I highly recommend going and browsing. I often find something unexpected to pique my interest. read more

I had a very unpleasant experience at this shop today. A friend of mine just celebrated the birth of her first grandchild and wanted to gift him with a Catholic records book. They are apparently very difficult to find, but this shop indicated they could order one for her. That was over a month ago. The first time she called for an update, they only told her that they needed to see if it had come in and they would call to let her know.....no phone call. Today she called again to find out if the book had been received. They told her that this was such a busy time of year for them that they would have to check and would call her back. Again, no phone call. I must add here that this woman is disabled, lives in Northern Kentucky, and is quite dependent upon friends/others for rides. Today we were in the Blue Ash area for one of her doctors' appointments, so we decided to just stop by the store anyway. The man who was at the front counter did not even look up to greet me when I entered, and when I explained why I was there, he claimed he had told my friend that the book was not in -- so not true, as I was in the car with her when she made the phone call. He was quite abrupt, stating that the book was in fact back-ordered and since this was their "busy season" they just did not have time to follow-up on those back-orders. I asked if he could give any input as to when the book might come in, as the baby's baptism is this weekend and this was to be her gift. He very reluctantly made a phone call, only to tell me that he had no idea when the book would be available, maybe a month, maybe several months!!!! While I understand that sometimes a retailer just cannot get merchandise for a customer (my husband and I are retailers ourselves), his customer service was non-existent -- in fact, he acted as if it was a real effort just to give this information. Naturally we cancelled the order, and his response was just a shrug of his shoulders. If he didn't want to place the order in the first place, he should have just told her that he couldn't get the book for her. I'm beyond disappointed that a so-called Catholic store would treat a customer with such rudeness. Please think twice before patronizing this place, as I'm certain other stores in the Greater Cincinnati area treat their customers with much more respect. read more
