Last week I needed to replace the down stem of an ash catcher I bought here awhile ago(was very happy with said ash catcher) Kevin was helpful as usual, unfortunately they only had pink down stems, but it looked like they got a fresh shipment of chillums so I gave those a quick look over before getting one with devil horns and tail. they seriously have some good name-brand pieces here and quit a few unique pieces in the back. More glasswear than 99 percent of the shops with in twenty-five miles! I met Chuck today after reading reviews here on yelp and I thought I would give my input. I attend UC Berkeley and have visited on numerous occasions all of the head shops on Telegraph, I do what I call the "piece walk" about once a month to look for something that really catches my eye. I always believed that Berkeley had some great head shops, and they do, but they are either a grungy, dark place with a poor selection or have extremely pushy salespersons who try to overcharge for mediocre "head pieces." All in all for the most part they still carry the sixties aura. Anyway, I was very surprised by the organization and glass selection at the cave, one of the best head shops I have visited and am looking forward to checking out their other store on the Haight. The owner was also very chill, very real and loved to talk glass. My type of headshop salesperson. Just because I'm a stoner doesn't mean I don't care for cleanliness or organization, and what I smoke out of must always be a piece of art. Thanks again Chuck, classy place. read more

In my opinion this is the pinnacle as far as smoke shops go. The main guy working there knows what he's doing, as I only had to say a few words and he came up with exactly the water-pipe I wanted, in my price range. The Cave is the best headshop on the peninsula, hands down. I went in yesterday to buy a new bong, the guys working at the counter helped me pick out an amazing water pipe and they were extremely kind even though my debit card was declined at first and I had to spend 15 minutes getting my finances in order. They gave me a great deal and even marked down the price of the piece I was buying, and threw in a free glass-headed poker. I've been a long time customer of the cave for a while, and they've always been a great store with a great selection of both high-end and affordable glass but I was blown away at how well I was treated last night and if you are looking to buy a new piece, the Cave is the way to go. read more

Largest selection of goods and if you want something they don't have, they'll order it for you if you leave a deposit. They definitely know how to take care of their customers. My boyfriend and I came in today looking for a grinder and a cigarette case. We walked in and no one greeted us or helped us or asked if we needed help with anything. We stood there at the glass case waiting for someone to acknowledge our existence..nothing! A lady came in a little bit after us stood next to us and an employee immediately came to her and asked her if she needed help. I was hoping the guy helping her would eventually come back or ask if we needed anything but nothing! None of the employees looked our way or asked if we needed help. We stood there for a good few minutes still patiently waiting for ANYONE to come help us and nothing. Horrible customer service! We were the only Asian people in there. I went online the same day and found 2 of these priced for 64.99 on e-Bay comes in a box, 2X V-Pens, Charger and Liquid Tobacco. My friends purchased these last week for $30 but they denied it. The Cave certainly has the best selection of any smoke shop I have ever been to. But what truly sets it apart is the knowledgeable, friendly, and overall professional staff. Their inventory would be very overwhelming if it weren't for the fact that every time I go in I get matched up with a salesperson pretty much as soon as I walk in the door. Today George assisted me with everything I needed and an answer to every question. It has the feel of shopping in a high end boutique ....unlike any other shop I have been to. The Cave has a large selection, probably the biggest in the Peninsula. Many different sizes and quality is great with most being thick glass and all the accessories you can imagine. The only problem was prices, they have gone up significantly since my last visit and even at that time they were already a bit over priced. The selection and style of glass they got is cool and very unique but I saw these small palm size pipes going for $200+ !! I mean no one wants to spend that much on something so small. Sorry but if you feel the same way about the prices here I would suggest any other shop in the peninsula it wouldn't hurt to go to other smoke shops and just compare prices im sure you will not go back to the cave if you find something similar at a much cheaper price at another smoke shop. I dont go out of my way to come here I only go if I happen to be in the area. Im sure most people who enter any smoke shop in general are of the younger crowd and most of us dont want to spend $400 on a piece of glass! read more

Great and friendly staff, huge selection.

You'll find yourself visiting The Cave again and again just to see their incredible collection of glass art. They are one of the nicest shops in the whole area and I would suggest anybody, smokers or not, to stop by and check them out. They carry everything from fairly inexpensive pieces, to the ultra high end functional glass art, and all the gear in-between. Great customer service and knowledgable staff. Ordering online is also a great experience every time. Their online shop is just as extensive too. Parking can be tough when it's busy, but hey, parking is bad everywhere, it's not the shops fault. You won't be disappointed when you visit The Cave. Appreciate you guys! read more

Wide selection of quality glass. Some really high-end names. Great selection of chillin's and mid-price-range tubes. The staff is friendly and helpful. They really pay attention to their customers. You are greeted when you first walk in. If you want to browse and just look, they are cool with that. If you have questions, they know their sh*t and are nice and informative. I've been to shops around Haight, and around the Peninsula. This is at the top of my list of go-to smoke shops. I must agree with the other reviews that The Cave easily has the best selection of glass in San Mateo. No doubt on that. The service is pretty good too, though they seem little sketchy at times. I would recommend going here for anyone in the area, overall it is probably your best bet. I have noticed that the prices have gone up a little recently and I am NOT a fan of that. read more

I've been here quite a few times for vape stuff and hookah necessities. Now that they have two locations the cave vape shop where the cave was originally years back and the cave smoke shop I feel there is more variety. There have been a few times I have gone in there and wasn't helped for minutes to 10 minutes. But once I was helped I was in and out. The music they play there is good vibration music and there are a wide variety of glass pieces and hookahs and all sorts of other stuff. I only go to the vape shop now that I have no need for anything else. I haven't used my hookah in about 6-7 months. The selection of juices and vape accessories is quite vivid. I would definitely recommend checking out the new vape shop. It is vapor opened up, up the street on 25th. Very high priced and kind of pushy on what they sell. I've been there a few times but the staff at the cave vape shop seem to know more about the products they sell. read more

I love this place if I could I would sleep on the floor of this place I would. Yes it's that good, the people that work there know what they are doing and always try help you even when they are helping someone else. From time to time I do get deals so the price is lowered a bit which is a plus. The verity is huge! So much to look at that if I had a car I'd be there for hours, since I do take the bus it literally takes me right there which is another plus. I came in about an hour or so before closing, had to wait a minute or so because a customer was being rung up and they were clearly training someone. Brandon helped me out selecting a waterpipe. He pulled out 4-5 different peices in said price range and filled them with water, went into depth about functionality and benefits of certain perculators. After I decided he threw in a premium case for 50% off. I was real happy with the service and glad I made the trip, especially seeing as that douchebag with the fedora doesn't work there anymore. They had a pretty big selection but their sister store Puff puff pass on haight street in sf has a bigger selection. The staff there were extremely helpful and nice. They knew exactly what they were talking about and gave me a pretty decent deal. They have deals for everyone. If you are looking for something really expensive they have it but they also got cheaper pieces. Overall they staff is super sweet and helpful and the products are great too.
