Even gift wrapping for $1! The store is surprisingly large and has hundreds, perhaps thousands, of different items. We always enjoy wandering the rooms to find the right gift. Spent over $10k on furniture and bought two pillows that had an overwhelming smell of rubber. Their response when I said it was disgusting and I couldn't sleep on them was to give it awhile and the smell should go away. WHAT?!! Said they could not return them. It took them over three weeks after a half dozen calls to even get an answer. I spoke to five different employees each who said they'd talk to their "manager". Worst customer service EVER! No one there seems to enjoy their job. Don't waste your time or money with these people and this company. Rude, uninformative, terrible customer service and not someone you'd enjoy giving your hard earned money to for this type of experience. read more

Mark was super helpful on getting me information on their mattresses, even working with the company to help me determine if I was allergic to the various parts of the mattresses. The Century House Gifts store is worth a walk-through, for those of us who enjoy looking at attractive goods, nicely arranged. The display at Christmas is quite lovely. The problem with Century House is that, these days, almost everything in the store is available online at a better price. For example, I paid well over a hundred dollars for a Klippan blanket, and found it later online for significantly less. I spent forty dollars for my infant granddaughter's dress, and found it online for twenty-five. I now hesitate to shop there without researching possible purchases first. If Century House Gifts wants to have broad appeal, they should consider bringing their prices in line with what the goods would cost elsewhere. read more

I ordered from them online and they were really nice and super helpful! The item I wanted was a gift for a friend and it needed to arrive in time (duh) for the occasion. They checked with their supplier for me and when it turned out the supplier didn't have it in stock and would need to order it, they offered to sell me their own floor model so I could get it in time. They sent me pictures to make sure the condition was acceptable and even gave me a discount! Great customer service and I'm so happy I found them! read more

I could spend forever in this shop. They have everything at all different price points: beautiful handcrafted jewelry, scarves and bags, magnets, books, tableware, stationery, kid's games and decor... All with a contemporary Scandinavian flare . Great stuff for all ages, and the people who work there are really nice. read more

We live in the UK but our Son and Daughter-in-Law recently bought a property in the Madison locality. They have bought quite a few items from Century House to furnish their new home and they have always been very happy with their purchases. We have bought them a couple of lamps as gifts and we are extremely happy with the quality of the materials and workmanship that has gone into the lamps. Felt covered flex is an added safety feature for our young Grandsons and Linen lampshades (not Burlap) are standard. The standard of Customer Service is also excellent, e-mails and telephone calls are dealt with promptly and efficiently by friendly people. Buying from Century House has been a total pleasure and I will always use the store as my first point of contact when shopping for gifts for my family in the future. read more

I found a beautiful sofa and chair at Century House, perfect for the mid century modern look I wanted. The only complaint I have is when I came to pick it up with a friend's pick up truck, a woman came out and immediately said, "That's not going to fit in your truck." Not a, I'm not sure if there's room, but a, not going to fit. Very rude. I said, let's give it a try. She and an other man put it in the truck. It fit. And the chair fit in as well. The man, Markum, helped me tie it all down securely. He was so helpful and nice, it made up for the rude woman. read more

Perhaps I'm less enthusiastic about The Century House as it exists these days because I remember what it was like decades ago. There used to be a special thrill in going there in the '70's or '80's because they had goods which were seldom available elsewhere in the city. I still use a beautiful blue and white Japanese teapot I got there in 1973. Everything was arranged with the utmost taste, even artistry, and the service was excellent. These days the Century House has more "stuff" than ever, but it's also available in many other Madison shops as well as online at better prices. I have to say that the merchandise is consistently overpriced. Sometimes the service is very good, other times a saleslady might seem haughty or distracted. I've even occasionally heard salesladies gossip in a critical way about customers, which is unpleasant and definitely damages the mood! Personally I like serenity, beauty and professionalism where I shop. Considering everything, particularly the inflated prices, I will probably seldom go there...which is sad, because this is a place I loved read more
