I trained with Raquel (Rocky) from August 2016 up until December of the same year, and holy hell did she open my eyes up to the world of Muay Thai kickboxing! I started training with Rocky some months ago back in October. It had been my first experience with Muay Thai and I was both very excited and eager to learn, yet, extremely nervous! I loved it immediately after my first few sessions and really liked/appreciated the time she took to help me perfect the basics! It solidified my technique and Rocky also constantly drilled some simple but VERY crucial skills (keeping your hands up, chin down, quickly drawing hands back to the face, etc.) into my thick skull. :) Even still now that I am more advanced at this point, she never lets me skimp on the details. My favorite part about working with Rocky is that she keeps it fresh-- switches it up and even though we always touch base on basic stuff when its necessary, her sessions are never boring! Which is miraculous to me because I get bored FAST.. I do love working out but everyone has their lazy days and on those days is when I'm especially thankful for this. Raquel and Justin hosted an intensive women's self-defense seminar for SoundCloud's Women in Leadership group and a few guests from our external women's networks. Justin is the champ! When we first started training I was hesitant on getting back into training since I popped one of my rotator cuffs. I expressed my concerns during the initial fitness assessment and Justin made sure to guide me onto the path of full recovery! I started training with Raquel last year, and she made me fall in love with Muay Thai! I have severe anxiety and panic disorder, and previously took up western boxing. It helped tremendously, but I found it limiting as a petite woman, and I would get lost at lot of the boxing gyms, or brushed over. I get the most intense work outs with Raquel, and with Muay Thai (at 31 years old) my body looks the best that it ever has. As a trainer, Rocky is top notch. But as a person, she's even better. I've been training with Rocky for a few months and although it's still early, I genuinely credit her with my newfound confidence. Before I started, I had zero coordination. The footwork alone took me two 1 hour long sessions to get the hang of (still need more work though). Seeing the way I hit now versus when I first started makes me so excited. Over our past few sessions she's shown me technique, discipline, but most importantly, patience. I've been training with him for almost five months now and it has raised my fitness, both physically and mentally, to an entirely new level.
