The Chandler is a brand new hotel in the heart of historic downtown Madison, IN. It is within walking distance of everything, only a block off Main Street. What a nice surprise! While called a hotel, The Chandler acts like an Airbnb. There is no staff and you are given a unique code to enter the building and your room. The building has clearly been lovingly and beautifully renovated to suit its new purpose. The rooms are all on the second floor, so beware if stairs are an issue. But it is definitely worth the hike up a few steps. Each room is unique with different design elements, all very lovely. There are vaulted ceilings, exposed brick and wood floors, giving it an "old world" factor, but brand new modern appointments for the trendy feel. There's an outdoor space with comfy furniture to lounge on and a cooler of beverages for sale for your convenience. One minor suggestion I have would be to incorporate some kind of snack vending since there is no nearby convenience store, but there were a couple of sweet treats (from the local chocolate store, I would imagine) to greet our entry. We also appreciated the fresh flowers -- lovely touches to make you feel welcome. All the elements of comfort and convenience were also included - little fridge, plenty of outlets, complimentary toiletries, good towels, etc. We were happy to be able to sign in to YouTube and Netflix on the TV as well. Lastly, the hotel owners are terrific - we had a little snafu with Expedia during booking and were able to contact one of them directly. He was attentive and helpful and fixed the issue. We got to meet him in person while checking out and we could tell this project was a labor of love for them - we hope they and The Chandler are successful and we look forward to a return visit.

    The outdoor area.

We had a couples weekend. It was beautiful. The wood ceiling was beautiful. It was a great weekend!

Charming details in the room. Local chocolates from town were yummy!

We had a wonderful overnight stay in this beautifully restored historic building. So much charm and history! Madison was the sweetest little town and all the cute shops and dining places were just a short walk away. Parking was very accessible and didn't cost extra. *Bonus we were near the river and also only about a 10 minute drive to Clifty Falls State Park. Check it out!

We loved the very space, but the chocolates from a local chocolate shop + the rooftop lounge was our favorite!

The breakfast was fresh. One thing that surprised me was that the sausage looked and tasted fried....not steamed. Who likes steamed sausage links - Yuck! The biggest downside for me was the lack of Wi-Fi. I travel a lot and depend on Wi-Fi in my rooms. The signal continuously fell off and/or I could not connect at all.

When we arrived, no nice greeting. The girl at the desk was glued to her computer. After 5 minutes, she then asked "are you checking in?" C'mon. We then got our room and saw that the door was wide open. Thankfully it was clean, but still I was very uncomfortable about that. We went back to the front desk and she offered us two things, refund and leave or just stay in the room. Apparently the housekeeping crew was "in a rush". (We ended up staying). The room itself was just meh. Everything was fine, except for the shower that I found disgusting. Yellow gunk was all around it and the side table was crumbling. Ew. The breakfast at the place was really small and very basic. There was cold cereal and a few hot meals, along with some baked goods and packaged muffins. However the fruit was rotting and disgusting. But if you are in a hurry, it will do. It was fine for just the few days we were there and was really the only place around. If you got no where else, this is the place for you.
