We complimented it, asked where they found it, and before we knew it, we were chatting with a wonderful couple who had traveled all the way from overseas just to watch Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever play that night. Moments like that are one of the reasons I love Indianapolis on game days. The patio was the perfect place to soak it all in. Fever fans filled the sidewalks, kids proudly carried homemade signs, and there was an excitement in the air that only comes from a city rallying behind its team. We could have people-watched for hours. Our waitress was exactly what every server should strive to be. Friendly, relaxed, and genuinely fun to talk to, she somehow mastered the art of appearing right before we found ourselves looking around for her. We never felt rushed, but we also never waited for anything. The food held up its end of the bargain too. The fried mozzarella disappeared embarrassingly fast and earned a solid 9.3 on my unofficial stretch meter. Crispy on the outside, perfectly gooey inside, with a marinara sauce that was every bit as good as the cheese itself. The chef salad was fresh, generously loaded with toppings, and easily big enough for a meal. I honestly couldn't tell you what beer I ordered... Because what I remember most is the experience. Sharing appetizers on a sunny patio, meeting fellow basketball fans from halfway around the world, and watching Indianapolis come alive before tipoff. It reminded me that sports have a funny way of turning complete strangers into friends. We'll absolutely be back the next time we're headed to Gainbridge.

Our server was friendly and responsive to one member of our group (male) but repeatedly didn't acknowledge another (female). This wasn't a one-time thing, it happened several times over the course of our visit, and it came across as dismissive. As for the drinks: beer prices were nice and cheap, but the margarita was on the expensive side and not really worth it. The place seems geared toward bigger dinner crowds, which may be why a two-person drinks-only table didn't get much attention, but being essentially ignored isn't a great look either way. We wouldn't return. 2/5.

I was in the mood for something different on this Memorial Day weekend. I decided to head South a…read morebit and journey my way through Beech Grove to see what I could find open on this holiday weekend. I'd long been curious about 5th Ave Grill and Bar, but for some reason I'd never stopped in. Today, I did. 5th Ave Grill and Bar is located right on the Main Street strip in Beech Grove. It's, you guessed it, a grill and bar. It's also, you guessed it, on 5th and Main Street. Beech Grove is pretty hit-and-miss when it comes to accessible businesses on Main Street. Fortunately, 5th Ave is pretty solid with a slightly slanted entryway and even a few tables for outdoor dining. Most nights of the week, they host either events or live music. On this day, they had a solid but not necessarily large crowd. As it's race day here in Indy, the Indy 500 was on most (but not all) channels. I was served fairly quickly. It always feels weird to order an iced tea in a bar, but I'm always grateful when they have it. I took some time to browse the menu. It's mostly your standard bar fare with several burgers, pizza, some handhelds, and a few other items. It's worth noting that handhelds don't come with a side - that's extra (chips or fries for $3 with the ability to upgrade the fries to a specialty for another $3). I opted for the breaded tenderloin sandwich. I added fries to it - I was pleased to see that they were steak fries. The tenderloin is definitely hand-breaded. It's a healthy size. It's what I'd call a good but not quite great sandwich. I didn't quite finish it, though that's partly because my always desired iced tea refill took a bit to actually get. The atmosphere? It's a bar. It's loud, though not unbearably so. People were being social (as is true for most bars). Accessibility was solid. I moved a chair away from a table, and it looked like most aisles were passable. I did not check out restrooms. Overall, I'd call this a very solid 4-star experience all the way. The service was solid. The food was good. The atmosphere was friendly. I enjoyed my time here and would easily return.

The atmosphere is 100% local dive bar, complete with pool tables. They have a lot of big screen TVs for sports viewing. They were even broadcasting the sound for a local sporting event. A huge plus, in my opinion. The menu consists of normal bar food items. They have chicken wings, pizza, burgers, and various sandwiches. They have daily specials. We visited on a Sunday, and the special was a tenderloin sandwich for $10.99. We ordered that, along with fried mushrooms for $8.49. Domestic beer on Sunday is $3 for 16 ounces. We had to get that as well! The mushrooms were good, but not enough of them. There were eight mushrooms in the basket, which is over a $1 a mushroom. A bit expensive in our opinion since they were not extremely large mushrooms. The tenderloin, on the other hand, was extremely large. It was OK.... I have had worse and I have had better. The men's room was ... very rough. Dirty, graffiti on the walls, a broken and overflowing urinal, a bucket of cleaning supplies including a toilet brush on the floor, and a broken soap dispenser. There was no way to wash your hands. It made me wonder about the servers. However, there was only one, and it was a female. She was serving the entire restaurant, as well as the bar. And, she was also the bartender! As a result, service was slow. There were about 20 patrons in the establishment. Going back to the bathroom, and the hand washing issue, I did not dare let my mind wonder if the cooks were male. I did, however, wonder with the toilet bowl brush present, if this was a self service bathroom with regards to cleaning. As mentioned, the service was very slow. It took about 50 minutes from the time we sat down, to ordering, to getting our food. The waitress, however, was very nice. She stated that she was new. And, we never saw more than two employees. One was our waitress, and the other was in the kitchen. Our waitress was extremely apologetic. She apologized for the slow service when she brought the menus, when she brought our drinks, when she brought our food, and when she brought the bill. We did not linger, we ate our food and left. The entire process took an hour and a half, start to finish. A positive is that when we left late at night, the place was very well lit outside.
