I was in the mood for something different on this Memorial Day weekend. I decided to head South a bit and journey my way through Beech Grove to see what I could find open on this holiday weekend. I'd long been curious about 5th Ave Grill and Bar, but for some reason I'd never stopped in. Today, I did. 5th Ave Grill and Bar is located right on the Main Street strip in Beech Grove. It's, you guessed it, a grill and bar. It's also, you guessed it, on 5th and Main Street. Beech Grove is pretty hit-and-miss when it comes to accessible businesses on Main Street. Fortunately, 5th Ave is pretty solid with a slightly slanted entryway and even a few tables for outdoor dining. Most nights of the week, they host either events or live music. On this day, they had a solid but not necessarily large crowd. As it's race day here in Indy, the Indy 500 was on most (but not all) channels. I was served fairly quickly. It always feels weird to order an iced tea in a bar, but I'm always grateful when they have it. I took some time to browse the menu. It's mostly your standard bar fare with several burgers, pizza, some handhelds, and a few other items. It's worth noting that handhelds don't come with a side - that's extra (chips or fries for $3 with the ability to upgrade the fries to a specialty for another $3). I opted for the breaded tenderloin sandwich. I added fries to it - I was pleased to see that they were steak fries. The tenderloin is definitely hand-breaded. It's a healthy size. It's what I'd call a good but not quite great sandwich. I didn't quite finish it, though that's partly because my always desired iced tea refill took a bit to actually get. The atmosphere? It's a bar. It's loud, though not unbearably so. People were being social (as is true for most bars). Accessibility was solid. I moved a chair away from a table, and it looked like most aisles were passable. I did not check out restrooms. Overall, I'd call this a very solid 4-star experience all the way. The service was solid. The food was good. The atmosphere was friendly. I enjoyed my time here and would easily return. read more

We were in town for a few days on business and found 5th Avenue when it was time to grab a bite. It was so good, we ended up coming back a second time before we left! Service was quick and easy, and the environment was great--you can tell this place matters to the community. They host events and special nights, which adds to the welcoming, local vibe. We tried the bacon jam burger, smoked wings, and Italian beef--all excellent. Flavorful, well-prepared, and satisfying. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, a convenient location with street parking, and a wide selection of beer, wine, and liquor. Good spot for wings. On Sunday, they have $1 wing special. We like to get them 5th ave style and Dr. pepper flavor. They are good and crispy with great flavor. This place is kid friendly. They have separate dining area and bar. They host events like poker games. Bartenders are friendly, and my husband loves going here because they carry mango cart on tap. I saw a post about their wet tenderloin on FB. The wait staff greeted me promptly and I ordered the wet tenderloin without looking at the menu. It was crispy with a peppery flour & cornmeal breading, delish. The gravy was also well seasoned with pepper. The green beans were hot and savory. Popped in here on a Friday night, and they were packed. Server came and greeted us, and got a table cleaned up quickly for us. Place was pretty loud, but too be expected on a Friday night. Waitress was on it throughout the night. Vodka lemonade was strong as a single. Breadsticks with cheese were mid- nothing to write home about but not bad. I had the tenderloin, fries, and coleslaw for my meal. The tenderloin was well seasoned- I would have appreciated it being cooked for a little bit longer- there were a couple spots that were mushy from the breading. The fries were well seasoned. I liked the coleslaw- it was a vinegar based and something a little different than most places offer. Will definitely return to try some other things on the menu. read more

Small side of fries which were mainly chips $3 One extra small smash patty $3 Diet Coke $3.25 $19.25 for what would have been $10.99 at Chili's WITH AN ADDITIONAL SIDE. Then I get the bill and there is the normal tax line AND ANOTHER "food and beverage tax" AND FEES line? What fees? This place is ridiculous. If you enjoy paying unreasonable prices this is your place. 2 stars because the server was adequate. read more

My wife got the soup flight for $12 (on Saturday) it came with chili, French onion soup, and loaded baked potato soup. She loves the chili. She said it was Hearty and rich even though she "likes it midwestern style" & prefers it with noodles it was so good. The French onion was #1 though. Then the baked potato soup was #3 it was thick and good just not many potato's. The pizza was good and the jalapeño ranch we got with our cheese balls was amazing 10/10. HUGE FAN that they have strawberry blonde beer so and they're $6 pints on Saturday. Which beats other places bar none. Service was GREAT she was busy but still attentive. The bands about to start up. What a find. A dive bar in downtown Beech Grove - a real hotspot for locals on Wednesday karaoke nite. Some great singers, some awful. Daily specials - today's was 'Wet Tenderloin' - a very succulent breaded pork tenderloin cooked to perfection with good mashed potato atop and brown gravy accompanied by a tasty bowl of green beans. Others had wings which turned out to be very good; well prepared to order burgers from a nice selection; the Pulled spork sandwich got a positive response as well. A good beer menu and a full bar. 5th street grill and bar is a family friendly scratch kitchen. They offer daily food specials and a full, specialty menu. The service can be hit or miss which, especially if you choose to sit on the patio. The food is decent and the beer is ice cold. I've been several times and will continue to stop by. read more

Food is always excellent and service is top notch. They are always prompt and polite. I've been for lunch and after work drinks, however never for dinner. The food was really good. I had the steak sandwich and, usually I can't finish all my food, but I ate the entire thing. My mom had a tenderloin sandwich and my brother had a burger, which they both loved. Their website says "come for the food, stay for the fun". We didn't stay for the fun but we did enjoy the food. Our server was friendly but she forgot about us so we had to flag her down. She apologized because she was the bartender and not used to waiting tables. My only issue was that the floors were sticky and everyone's shoes were sticking as they walked around and it was driving me nuts. We were there late afternoon and it seemed like they had a good number of regulars. They have a stage for live music and lots of activity nights on their Facebook page. Wings are amazing, get the traditional with Nashville style! Service amazing and the food is good. I would not advise pizza or take out. Ordered double mushroom (and paid for double) and some pieces had no mushroom but every piece had an insane amount of onion. The tavern style is paper cracker thin and like dominos but not as greasy or flavorful. I wouldn't suggest it. Prices are that of a fancy pizza joint but is definitely bar quality. Lesson learned. Also sad veggie selection, no pineapple or tomatoes etc. Wings did not come with celery but do if you order in, that's one of my favorite things so it's weird to pay the same but not get the same thing. read more

Stopped in with the family on Sunday to try this local bar with great food and service. Had to try their Bloody Mary with a PBR. Great flavor! They definitely know how to mix a good bloody. Last night my mom and I stopped in Beech Grove for a bite at 5th Ave. There is plenty of street parking for along with a parking lot. The bar has lots of open seating along with bar seating. It's well light and had super cute Christmas decorations. They even have a stage for live music. The staff were friendly and quick to serve. I met a group of co-workers here for dinner. Some of the party were already there and had their drinks As so as I walked in, I was immediately greeted by the waitress to take my drink order. She was very attentive throughout the evening I ordered the Kristy Chicken Sandwich grilled. I really enjoyed it ! It was very flavorful and the coleslaw was fresh and had a good crunch to it. My side was cottage cheese. I know, boring. But my friends who had the French fries said they were awesome. My friends who ordered the homemade chips said next they will go with the French fries. . I also ordered the French Onion soup. It was good but was lacking a bit of flavor, The stock just was not rich enough for my likening outside of that, I really liked the food and it was reasonably priced. Plus, the service is great.
