This is a review for my corporate housing stay of approx 5 months during early 2017 through Oakwood. There were many other Oakwood options, but I chose this one due to the amazing location. Right beside the 1 line, walking distance to the BD, AC and RW lines. Many great food options within walking distance, and Whole Foods across the street. Pretty good amenties - laundry + gym on 1st floor. Gym is on the smaller side and probably not useful for those who lift heavier weights, but sufficient for casual workouts. Great doorman service for holding packages - there is 24/7 security, too. There is a lounge on a higher floor which is often unoccupied. There is also a large outdoor patio area with decent views of the west side, which can be good for hosting larger events/parties. It is also often unoccupied, though I'm guessing it gets more crowded during the warmer months. I stayed in a 1BR (Unit 10G to be exact) and it was more than enough space for 1 person - very suitable for a couple. It came furnished with modern furniture and a very comfortable queen bed. There was plenty of closet space + the living area was large. The kitchen was contemporary, furnished with the standard amenities. I was provided a landline, too, but rarely used it. There is a heater/AC unit in both the living room and the bedroom which I had no issues with (mainly used the heater during the colder months). Despite it being a wonderful apartment, there were a few downfalls. There is a call system to open the door for folks but I found that it was backed by weird software that was not intuitive to use; I ended up never really using it and just picking up guests the manual way. My apartment also faced 7th, which is a very loud street. The windows were not thick enough to mute the sound, and it was sometimes difficult to sleep. Overall though I really enjoyed living here during my short time, and I would highly recommend it for corporate housing stay. For renters - I know that the rental prices are pretty steep (having checked on their official site). For the price being paid, you could probably find an apartment with similar amenities + location but better sound proofness, which IMO is pretty important for NYC. If you do want to rent here, I would recommend to get a unit that faces 24th or the back of the building, rather than facing 7th. read more

Grain of salt: We've lived here a month I cannot say enough great things about this building. The doormen are wonderful and remember everyone's names. The gym is always SUPER clean and really nice (and they have Peloton bikes AND a Pilates Reformer!). They even have cooled towels for use in the gym. The roof deck is beautiful and always well taken care of. The apartment itself is lovely, updated appliances, everything very nice. My literal only complaint about the apartment is that the fridge is tiny (I like to cook). The elevators are also pretty old and slow...but I've heard they're replacing them in the fall. Apartment shopping with my friend who is looking. I'm emotional support. Visited every building in Chelsea it feels like but only one warranted a review. First Encounters Every property seemed the same, disinterested agents or pushy agents hastily touring through their properties. The whole process is almost robotic. At The Chelsea we were met buy a very stylish friendly agent. He sat with us and engaged in genuine conversation effortlessly made us feel at home.... which is important being that we are looking at homes. The Property The building is doing major renovations throughout, however the organization and cleanliness is unlike anything I've seen. The new hallways I could live in, plus they are windowed hallways, really neat. Everything that's been finished is striking. Apartments The apartments are all new with serious attention to detail. Beautiful high end appliances, gorgeous baths. I don't know if they all have walk in closets but the ones we saw did and OH YAY they are custom built with adjustable shelving so you can modify for yourself. Staff Front desk, the most friendly we met the entire day, management staff were so put together, friendly and welcoming. Our agent really came across as taking a search for a new home serious and not just robotically rambled through the tour. Overall Let's say I've already asked my current landlord if I can get out of my lease (which took 4 days to get a have ass response, "side eye" thanks Vickie!!!) The Chelsea - Saw This Incredible 2 Bedroom with a New Yorkers envy... a huge private landscapes terrace - Apartments Near Me - New York, New York

The management office is impossible and seem to be obstructing our move-out. We booked the freight elevator two weeks ahead of time and got approved. 4 days before our moving day, we found out on our own that we won't be able to use the elevator, as it will go into modification for the next 4 months starting that day (beware anyone considering moving in, they don't have alternative plans during this time). There was no attempt to reach out to us to warn about this. I tried to ask if they can start a little later on that day, and I didn't expect the level of push back and attitude that I got. Giana from the office gave me a lecture on how these massive projects always have short notice and I should be flexible. They can't confirm a start time, and on top of that they are "unwilling" to compensate any additional movers cost since "it's not our fault". When I asked what my options were, she told me I'm welcome to throw things away ("Maybe you want a new couch or a new bed.") She also said the whole management team will for sure echo her response and I should feel free to take it up, while there is actually no way to take it anywhere to a real human being. For the price you pay (and the mandatory amenity fee), I suggest you look elsewhere to avoid this kind of trouble. read more

My fiance and I moved into a 1BR/1BA unit in this building in 2019 and couldnt be happier with our decision to chose The Chelsea. It has lived up to expectations in everyway with phenomenal amenities and a friendly/attentive staff. When we first looked at the building we were introduced to one of the leasing agents, Tim, and he made the process very easy and stress free for us. He was very welcoming and personable when we did the initial tours and then was very attentive and helpful as we went through the application process and move in. Our lease was up for renewal this past month and we were looking to expand to a 2BR/2BA apartment. To be diligent, we looked at many other buildings in the Chelsea/Flatiron/West Village area but at the end of the day we couldnt bring ourselves to leave The Chelsea. You really cannot beat the location(Whole Foods right across the street), the amenities(gym and spacious roofdeck with grills), and the staff. During this past month, Tim(the leasing agent), proved to be critical in retaining us as residents and helping us with the move into the larger unit we needed in the building. Moving apartments/signing new leases is always stressful in NYC, even when youre moving within the same building, but Tim was again very helpful in making sure that process was as seamless for us as possible. In short, while obviously biased, I highly recommend The Chelsea and working with Tim for your next apartment. read more

Current resident. Building was great under prior management but has taken a huge step back under Greystar. If it was easier to move I 100% would have. Elevators are slow and break frequently. 'Live in' super does not actually live there (or at least spends much of his time elsewhere). Construction planned for this year will make amenities (laundry, gym) tough to use. Policies for using common areas are difficult and expensive. Value is not great for the neighborhood, as many floorplans are on the small side but the building expects to line price with larger apartments in the area. Front office staff are difficult, although doormen and maintenance guys are great. Would definitely not recommend. read more

I visited this apartment twice while looking for apartments. The first time I really liked it and the person from the leasing office, Tim, said he would email us outlining everything we saw for the day. He never emailed us and I called the management company multiple times to get a message to him. They either never reached him or he just didnt care enough to message us. His loss because we were really serious about signing a lease here. We decided to visit again to see if we could get some answers from someone else and quotes for the available units. The same thing happened with a different person... It is safe to say I will never be looking here for my future apartment. I wonder how they treat people who actually live there. read more

This place might be great if you apartment windows aren't over the 7th avenue. But an apartment on the third floor as mine over the avenue is just like sleeping directly on the street. It is so noisy I cannot sleep. And I used to live on 36th street, Murray hill, one of the noisiest street other there! Plus I would add that the closet in the kitchen are stinky, the curtains aren't opaque and the TV sometimes just stops working. read more

Spend your money elsewhere for many reasons (just the top listed below): Saw 5 water bugs over a 15 month lease period due likely to all the construction in the building. Management sent an exterminator who spent less than 2 minutes in my apartment just spraying a product quickly that didn't work. Building is one of the nicest when it comes to amenities and common space, but the property manager makes living here a nightmare. In the 15 months I lived here, there were at least 4 different doormen for one of the morning week shifts, and on the weekends, there was a rotating cycle of doormen, which meant they didn't tell you if you had a package or ring up guests because they didn't know anyone. Apparently, management can't retain tenants or doormen. As I moved out, I got notice that they were doing a complete doorman overhaul. The property manager constantly changes access to both amenities and basic necessities (think: water, electricity) to do repairs and construction. In the 15 months I was there, there were 3-5 water and electricity shut offs. Once Management had the idea to do one of these repairs overnight (likely to avoid doing it during the day and upsetting their commercial tenants, Starbucks and a tanning salon), which meant you couldn't use your bathroom overnight. They use electric fabs instead of traditional keys to get into the apartments. These often stop working and I was locked out of my apartment around 5-6 times, which requires the building to call the super to reprogram or replace the fab reader. This happened at 2 am once. The sheer number of available apartments should tip you off to the unhappy tenants moving out. They also have no flexibility if you want to try to extend your lease for just a month, and will charge you a premium for any changes. The property manager dedicated the service elevator solely to construction projects for the building so tenants can't use it, leaving only two elevators if you're moving in or out OR just trying to use the elevator. The super and the one doorman who was left from the original group that were there at the start of my lease are really nice and helpful, but the property manager runs this place like a dictatorship so you're always going to need to go through her. read more

We haven't even moved in to the building yet and we are already so thrilled with the entire staff at the Chelsea. Our first interaction with the Chelsea was with the leasing team - Tim, Daniel, and Jordan. We were immediately impressed with the knowledge and attentiveness of all three leasing agents. Obviously, touring apartments in COVID creates an extra layer of difficulty. Upon our arrival to the Chelsea, we sat down with Tim in the lobby (which is newly renovated and beautiful) and went over what we're looking for in terms of space and price. He then had us see every unit in the building he thought we would be interested in - he didn't push us to go above our price range at all and was very honest about each unit - which ones were smaller, which ones were in better locations relative to the elevator/trash rooms, etc. We ultimately found the unit we were looking for and applied for the apartment almost immediately. The entire leasing team was very attentive in getting all of our documents ready as quickly as possible and, thanks to their hard work, we were able to sign the lease in ~72 hours. Since then, we've had about a month before our move-in date and we have been absolutely blown away by the entire building staff. Azad, the maintenance manager, and the rest of the team have brought furniture deliveries up to our apartment as well as other packages and have helped us immensely in preparation of our move. We feel so confident in our choice of apartment and are very excited to be residents of the Chelsea, thanks to this amazing staff. read more

We are a couple in our early 30s that have lived in this building for 15 months. Overall, this is a building with great amenities, great location and high end finishes in the apartments. Unfortunately the building management is highly unprofessional and incapable of doing their job, the safety of the tenants is not guaranteed, and therefore this building compared to other luxury buildings in the area is significantly overpriced. Positive - Rooftop: stunning views of One WTC on one side and Empire State Building on other side, clean, doesn't get too busy - Gym: well maintained, clean, 3 Peloton bikes, doesn't get too busy - Study: stylish, great place to study or home office - After several months with very high turnover of the front desk staff (it wasn't even worth to remember their names) it looks like the building managed to retain a few concierges that are professional and friendly Negatives - Let's start with the major f*** up of the staff in the building. One day when my wife was sleeping in the morning she woke up when she heard two men talking in our living room. She immediately locked the bedroom door and asked the men to leave the apartment immediately. The men left, but my wife was scared to death as she didn't know who the men were and what they were doing in our apartment. Just take a moment to think about what could have happened to my wife!!! Five minutes later someone knocked on our door, it turned out that a painter wanted to paint the walls, however was given the keys to the wrong apartment! This makes me seriously question how safe we are in this building when building staff hand out keys and don't call tentants before they let someone enter your apartment! Seriously unacceptable, and do you think anyone from the management team has ever spoken to us in person about this incident? No, they were unable because they only work during office hours! - The management team is probably the biggest disappointment in this building, as they constantly overpromise and underdeliver (btw in 15 months we had 3 different management teams) - When we were viewing the apartment the leasing manager didn't mention the major building work that will be going on over the course of the year - When the entrance area was refurbished, the front desk and building entrance were moved to the basement. According to management this should only have lasted a few days, however in reality it lasted over 2 weeks - Also during the refurbishment of the front desk, they promised to deliver packages to the apartments. Unfortunately this didn't work and we had to go and collect every single package ourselves - Before the summer they promised that the cushions for the rooftop furniture will be replaced shortly, however by December nothing has been replaced yet - We haven't had many issues where we required the super's assistance, however whenever we did, it took them several days and reminders to actually do their work - When our lease was finally coming to an end and we handed in our move out notice, all of a sudden my account on the building web portal showed a balance that was the outstanding rent plus the entire deposit due to be paid. When I asked the leasing manager why this was the case he first said that we didn't hand in the notice in time, even though this was not the case. He then said that this is an accounting issue and I should not worry about it. I then told him that this is unprofessional and shouldn't happen, he then snapped at me and said "do you want me to help you or not?!" Honestly, that's not the answer you would expect, so I told him that it is his job to fix this issue and that he should be open to feedback - And finally, as one would expect in a building with such a terrible service, they did not manage to pay the deposit back in time. they promised to pay it back within two weeks, in our case it took them four (in all fairness a few days can be deducted due to Xmas and NYE) read more

I moved into The Chelsea in August of 2011 with my boyfriend and we loved it here. The staff was very helpful ( we worked with Adrian) and always responded quickly to requests. The apartment we were in was a little small for the price but the kitchen and bathroom made up or it. The kitchen had gorgeous appliances and the entire place was remodeled. We had to leave to move to California, but if not we would have stayed here. The location is very central as well. One block to the train, and right across from Whole Foods. I highly recommend this building! read more

Built in the 80's this building has been renovated to a high standard throughout. Top of the range appliances and great daylight in most apartments with stunning views from the accessible and public rooftop. In terms of value for money, the apartments are priced at just the right point for the area, size and quality of finishing. One huge benefit of the location is its access to the underground, literally walk outside and in one minute your swiping your ticket ready to board. Would thoroughly recommend. read more
