We toured here recently excited about the bedroom sizes and location. Luckily, there is no housing shortage in the NYC as we will be looking elsewhere. We waited 27 minutes on the 34th floor to leave. 27 minutes for an elevator. Absurd. Also, the 34th floor had 1 washer/dryer for all units. Sure, there may be others elsewhere but why would I bother with elsewhere if the elevator takes as long as it does? At over $5k for a 2/2, look elsewhere. We didn't even bother looking at the amenities as we were so livid waiting... waiting... waiting. We talked to about 10 residents while waiting, and touring, and easily found out not a single resident recommended the building aside from a resident that had been in the building since 1982. Additionally, every resident we spoke with said the elevator fiasco was common. Had it not been for the elevator fiasco, we would have applied same day. Good thing we didn't I suppose. read more

Awesome building. I lived here with three roommates for two years and we really enjoyed our unit, staff, and amenities. Michael, Jon, and Tatianna were particularly helpful throughout the entirety of our lease and I highly recommend working with them. The front desk guys are awesome, special shout-out to Roberto, Vinko, and Tai (I am forgetting the names of others but they are all great). All of the maintenance guys are super reliable and hard-working. Assuming we don't get screwed on the security deposit return, I give this place 5-stars. read more

I have lived in this building for going on eight or nine years and I have to say that it has really gone downhill in the last two years. First of all, the elevator situation is appalling. There was one elevator being "fixed" for the better part of a year. The second elevator was consistently broken, leaving only the freight elevator which was often in used for people moving and/or the porters. There are 35 floors in the building and at times, there was ONE or NO elevator (which is actually illegal). Not only that, but the building refused to grant any sort of abatement or concession for the issue. Additionally, we are now in the middle of pandemic and the building is unwilling to work with tenants who are suffering from financial issues and/or offer any sort of concession for the reduction of services. A shining example of how not to display empathy during a pandemic. The apartments are pretty nice, the location is good and the studios are a good size, but I'm disappointed by their inability to hire a competent community manager. Everything is a fight rather than a reasonable discussion with them. As someone who is in the real estate industry, I would advise them that you get more flies with honey and maybe they should try to work with tenants instead of shutting them down. read more

Just finished my first year living here, will be renewing my lease but there are definitely some points of frustration. Pros: - Apartments themselves are nice, good space for the price - Staff is great, service requests are dealt with fast and effectively - Amenities are nice WHEN OPEN (big caveat) Cons: - Elevators are quite slow, building has identified it as an issue but still not fixed - Soundproofing between apartments is very poor, we've spent hundreds of dollars on different alternatives and our neighbors can still hear us when we make even moderate noise, as well as us hearing them - Communication/visibility from management is VERY substandard, our pool was supposed to be closed for a month and has now been closed for over 4, with any promised opening dates now passed without an update. It gives me the feeling that building management would rather be dishonest about or hide unpleasant news/timelines. I'd be a lot happier with bad news than I am right now with no communication All in all, this is a nice living space at a price that I think is fair, but there are very real drawbacks caused by how management handles fixing issues and communicating those fixes. read more

I've lived in this building for a while now, and although we're renewing the lease I'm not too pleased. Rent's gone up 33% and 25% in the last 2 years (up 66% total), and although it was due to the initial rent being cheap bc of covid, it feels quite pricy now. The elevator situation has been abysmal, as other reviews will say. I've had to walk down 30 flights of stairs before to leave the building when there were 0 elevators in service. I know we're modernizing the elevators, so this is understandable (as long as it gets better over time). The units have very little soundproofing, the amenities are often out of service (the pool is out of service currently) and during our last rent renewal, we were told that we would be grandfathered into the old amenity fees. We weren't. The pool was also supposed to be renovated one month from March to April, but we were told it was delayed 3 additional months until 7/1; well into July there's been no update from management and it's still closed. The gym renovation felt like a sidegrade. During covid, the gym went under construction for over half a year, and when it came back, we got a squat rack, but lost the chest press machine and the lateral pulldown. I will be here for another year, but hopefully things improve. Location is good for where I work, space is good in the bedrooms, but the price hikes have been tough on my wallet and amenities/communication could be better. read more

We had an issue with our sink leaking, handy men tried fixing it 3 times and it just kept breaking. Additionally, our apartment was never painted before moving in. When I spoke with the community manager Jon Strauss, he told me he could get our apartment painted this week if I agreed to go out for a drink with him. The staff here is extremely creepy and the building overall is the equivalent to an Animal house. Beware prospective tenants. read more

My friends are very happy living here. From what I see when visiting I prefer a more recently constructed building. The elevators (with the exception of the service elevator) are very small. Four adults fit comfortably. Any more than four would be crowded in my opinion. The lobby is being renovated as well as most of the building. Your packages, dry cleaning etc. are in the lobby with just a lobby attendant sitting at a desk. There is a door man. I would feel uneasy if these were my belongings. I'm told the washers and dryers are on each floor. I'm not sure how many per floor. I do know that my friend must run from floor to floor to find one that is not in use. I am positive I would not be happy with that set up!! Compared to what I'm used to the Lounge is very small. It would accommodate any event I would have. The views from the lounge are beautiful. You can see in my photos. In conclusion, this is a very nice place to visit but I would not want to live here. The amenities are not up to the standards I expect for the amount of rent. I guess if you want to walk to work and come home for lunch it's a good place to live!! That's the case with my friends. read more

Great location - close to grand central so it's very easy to get to and from work/ most areas. The hours for the gym / pool are a little ridiculous, especially the hours I work. Some of the door men are great, others are just kinda there... I love the roof but oct 1st hit and ALL the furniture is gone.. Why? Nyc in the fall is great outside.. Im a little confused Why Even tho i took over the 2nd half of someones lease i had to pay the whole years worth of amenities fee and I'm nervous about the rent going up.. One star is being EXTREMELY generous, but unfortunately that is the lowest rating I can award the leasing office at Murray Hill Tower. I recently moved out after living here for 4 years.This is the most incompetent and outrageous leasing office I have ever dealt with. I experienced SEVERAL billing errors in my time here, and instead of being apologetic, the leasing office was slow to resolve and appeared to be EXTREMELY clueless the entire time. I had an absurd and painfully aggravating experience during my move out which was 2/4/17. It is 2/15/17, and I have yet to receive an accurate final bill. They produced a statement which was ~3K higher than it was supposed to be, and still insisted I pay my balance online- WITHOUT AN ACCURATE STATEMENT. I had to deal with Melissa C. in the leasing office, and she was beyond rude, dense, and unhelpful. I hope you never have to deal with this woman, but honestly it was so unpleasant. read more

This place is overpriced for the kind of service the building provides. The main issue is how hit or miss the doormen and concierge are. Some are so rude you think you're at the DMV (As a side note, the U.S. Social Security office is in the same building) and others are great. If you have an issue, you have to hope that the right people are at the desk that day. I needed my bike from a bike room and the concierge just threw a key at me and left me to go hunt for my bike up several stairs. took me about 30 minutes to move all the bikes in front of mine. The night doorman just sleeps on the couch with a radio on. There is effectively no overnight doorman at the building. They also have so many rules that the amenities become useless. The roof and pool close very early so anyone with a job that pays for the 3K+ rent on a studio would get home after they close. The gym is always so crowded in the morning that I ended up having to get a gym membership anyway. The doorman that are friendly are fine but nothing is above and beyond. The "concierge" is sort of an illusion - you get the same amenities and help as you would from any doorman building. There are two elevators for 35 floors. It can take SO long to get up or down. It's really unbelievable - even the food delivery people complain about it. Management is ok and can be responsive but are somewhat cold. I moved here (and since left) because there was a deal of paying almost nothing down. If I had done the math, the rent is really out of whack for what you get. I could have probably saved about $500 or more a month by paying a fee and moving into a different building. I was so eager to get out that I moved a month early. I asked if they would be willing to do anything (for example, waive the fee to re-paint) in exchange for letting them have the apartment weeks early (AND still paying rent for the whole month) but they were not interested or accommodating at all. They really don't care and you can hear it in their tone. You can also expect a substantial rent increase at the end of the year. read more

An excellent place to live if you work in Midtown East like me, basically walking distance to work. The building has prime location allowing me to have great access to my office, a decent amount of restaurants and services in the neighborhood. Pros: - Great location, a great choice for people who work in Midtown East that are desperately trying to avoid NY public transportation at all cost. - Responsive management. Whenever a problem arises for residents, the building management team is responsive and quick to fix the problems. - The front desk is generally very helpful in terms of handling packages; they will send out an automatic cell phone message to notify you on new packages. - Great amenities. Residents have access to a pool with a beautiful Manhattan view and a gym with basic equipment. You also enjoy access to an entertainment lounge and can rent it for parties and social events. - Spacious one-bedroom apartments compared to the ones of a lot of other buildings I looked at during the apartment-searching process - They offered me an one-month for free deal" when I signed an one-year lease with them. - Great view on the rooftop where you can see the UN building and a close-up chrysler Cons: - The building pool closes too early, not accommodating the schedules of a young professional who may have to stay at work late - The two building elevators sometimes take a while to wait for - No sound-proofing walls. I can be a little demanding and picky at times but Korab, the community mgr, is always very understanding and helpful as are the rest of the crew. Worst elevators in Manhattan!! I've had to run up and down stairs constantly Bc of 30 min+ elevator times. The management company isn't that great either. Good luck communicating with them. A lot of residents are rude and don't wear masks in the cramped elevator or anywhere around the building. Would not recommend unless they get those elevators fixed. read more

Note to self...read reviews before moving into an apartment. Noise YES! Never ending. Worst time is 5pm on the weekends. It is so loud you have no choice but to use the heat or AC so you can even watch TV. Elevators (CHECK). DISASTER! Last night was a 40 minute wait. They actually sent an email our saying that we should "plan accordingly and expect some delays". There are delays EVERY day even when the are running at full capacity! Squeaky front doors that just slam every time the neighbor walks out. I think there are 10 people living next door to me! I don't event attempt to use the laundry. Hallway carpets are old and dirty and vacuumed when to infrequently. I paid an amenity fee and the only amenity I use is the elevator and 50% of the times I have to use the stairs because one of the elevators are not working. read more

I've lived at the archstone murray hill for almost 4 years and it's a good building but they raise the rent so much each year it is hard to be that excited about it. Pros: -great location if you work in midtown east -apartment layouts really maximize the space & the units are big -the rooftop is nice in the summer -while the gym is by no means a substitute to a real gym membership, it is nice to have as a solid back up when you're in a hurry -the building staff except for the night doorman are terrific -no pets (sorry, other people's pets just make apts smell) -the building has a nice online platform that allows you to pay rent online, submit service requests online and emails you when you have dry cleaning or a package Cons: -the elevators are atrociously slow -having rent stabilized tenants paying a fraction of what you pay when your rent jumps hundreds of dollars each year is infuriating -bathrooms are small & outdated -apt common hallways are depressing and dark -you aren't far from lots of conveniences, but nothing that great is within the immediate few blocks except for an overpriced/disgusting gristedes, a subway, a starbucks & a mcdonalds- i.e. no good shopping or restaurants read more

This is the worst building in NYC. There are 3 elevators for 35 floors (probably 10 apartments/floor). Even if the elevators were high functioning, this would be a problem, but one elevator has been out for 4+ months and the other 2 break CONSTANTLY, often leaving only 1 running- and believe me it's hanging on by a thread. Fortunately I'm 24 years old and will survive walking up and down 20 flights of stairs multiple times a day, even if it's extremely undesirable and inconvenient, but I can't help but think of the dozens of elderly and handicapped people who live here, not to mention children. The building management fills our heads with false promises of getting the elevators fixed, but they haven't worked in the year and a half since living here. No incentive has been offered for the extreme inconvenience this has caused everyone, in fact they had the audacity to RAISE my rent. If you have a brain DO NOT LIVE IN THIS BUILDING!! read more

Ive lived here for 8+ months or so. I like the apt but im moving when lease is up. See below for a short overview of my experience positives: - if you work in midtown, location is good, i walk to work - doorman, concierge, and handymen very friendly and professional. good people - if you have a problem, they fix quickly - i have a great view from my apt of tudor city and the east river and queens. i used to live on a lower floor in another apt and having a view makes a huge difference. weekends, dont feel like i have to go outside - i got a month free when i moved in. - they have a gym, a bikeroom, and luggage storage - next to dunkin donuts, gristedes, and a subway sandwich. negatives: - only two elevators and super slow. sometimes you wait for an elevator to come down for 5 - 7 minutes - they have been working on facade and balconies for at least a year. i get dust in my house due to the work. it's excruciatingly loud during the day - i feel bad for any stay at home parents. it was horrible - i have a balcony that i cannot use. when i moved in they told me id be able to use it in August 2009. its november and no luck. - laundry room is on each floor which is good.. however it;s in the same room as the garbage chute, so gets dirty - when you walk into the hallway of each floor, feels like you are in the 1970s - very loud at night. second ave seems to be the street all ambulances go down. also lots of honking. - no good restaurants. - old bathrooms and kitchens - like 1980s style - people that live in the building that are rent stabilized pay 1/4 of what you pay. some of the older ones hang out in the lobby all day. kind of weird. - my wife keeps getting stuck in the elevator - we hear the people next to us doing nookie anyways, go figure - im not coming back read more

FRAT HOUSE. Stay away at all cost! If you're a professional/family. Living in this building is a nightmare. It's overrun by rude, obnoxious, loud kids. Apartments are now divided to accommodate 5/6 tenants + their guests. Community room is always full of strangers. The laundry room is never available. Constant door slamming, garbage in the halls and elevators. Dorm-like wild parties, hordes of college kids. At times it's almost impossible to sleep bc of all the yelling in the hallways, door slamming, drinking and loud music. Management hasn't done anything upon our requests to intervene. Management is young and I doubt they can relate to the needs of us professionals. + building is ridiculously overpriced. Elevators break down at least once a week. Dirty hallways, beer cans, pizza boxes, laundry rooms. Lot's of new/cheaper buildings in New York. We're out. read more

The building has a great roof deck and pool. The staff is really helpful and any work requests have always been completed very quickly. Building is not brand new but the apartments are spacious (great floor plans, LOVE my Balcony). I would definitely recommend living here. I have been going through an agonizing search for a new apartment for over a month. I have dealt with brokers trying to charge me a fee on no fee buildings, leasing agents who were extremely curt with me or didn't cal me back because I can't move within the next two weeks, buildings that want $1000 deposit for my 14 pound emotional support dog. It's been grueling. So much so that last night I literally was going to give up and stay in a building I hate because of horrible management (I'll take the classy route and not name them). By chance I walked by Murray Hill Tower today because I work close by and I decided to see if someone would talk to me without an appointment. All I can say is that Min Fons who gave me a tour of the building was lovely, personable, knowledgeable and restored my faith that I did not have to stay where I wasn't happy. Murray Hill Tower is gorgeous! I loved the apartment and the amenities and they are priced extremely well. I am considering an apt. there but she mentioned that Equity Apartments who manages that building also has many other properties and I think I may prefer those because they are closer to my current neighborhood where I would really like to stay. If all Equity Residential buildings are this nice which Min assured me they are, I'm sold. Thank you again Min. You made my day! I look forward to working with you to find my new home. read more

I cannot wait for my lease to be up. I can hear the neighbors baby crying all night long. 2nd Ave is the noisiest street and you can hear ambulances all night long. It is definitely hit or miss with the doormen. I pay all this money and most of the time I have to open the door myself or...The elevators are a nightmare. The management is totally unsympathetic to any issues so if you have any don't bother going there. This entire building should be rent stablized with tenants paying at least half if not less of what we are paying now because it's not worth it.
