I came to the chicken Koop for the first time today. I didn't know there were any other locations so I had no expectations for this place. Service was warm and welcoming from the seating hostess to the bartenders who doubled as our servers. My friend and I opted for bar seating to avoid the wait. The chicken koop is clearly a very popular Sunday brunch spot, and for good reason! The food was amazing, the drinks were delicious, and service was fast. The decor is also very good, nice but simple. The details make this place feel open and has just enough modern touches throughout. Had a fantastic time yesterday at Chicken Koop in Downey. The food was great, and they were extremely accommodating. We arrived at the location at 2:00 pm, people complained about the mandatory $7.00 valet parking, that did not bother me as there was plenty of parking on the street, we did valet parking. We were finally called for our reservation for 4 at 2:30, however our seats were given to another party. When we finally got seated it was 3:15, the hubster complained because we missed the all you can drink mimosas that ended at 3:00, the Chicken Koop actually made it right , they recognized their mistake and allowed us to still have the unlimited mimosas The food was good, the portions were large. read more

Was in the area for work and did a quick Yelp search and found The Chicken Koop! The pictures and reviews caught my interest and I'm so glad they did because it was absolutely delicious!! After visiting the Whittier location I had my reservations about visiting the chain again but I'm glad I changed my mind earlier today. The location is right off of Paramount Bl which is a fairly busy street but as soon as you walk into the restaurant it's a vibe. Uncle Mike and Oscar made my day, the conversation was pleasant they even actively listened to the experience that was had at the Whittier location and not being brushed off or rushed to end the conversation was the icing on the cake. The food was great I ordered the chicken tinga empanadas, the grumpy chicken sandwich, the yellow bird and a Jamaica margarita. Been going to the one in whittier for a few years now so was happy to see one open in downey! Its nice of course, nothing but the best for our little beverly hills, and the only parking is valet. The inside is very cool and modern, not like the one in whittier. But what surprised me the most was that everyone was genuinely welcoming!! Man, I really wanted to love the food here. It looks soo good in the photos. We actually got food to go from here before, which was not that great, but I thought it just didn't travel well. We got the fried cauliflower, mini loaded nachos, Canadian style plate, and belly buster sandwich (which is what I got to go previously) with poutine instead of garlic fries. The fried cauliflower wasn't fried enough, it really needed some acidity and the little slice of lemon it came with did not cut it - 2 stars. The loaded nachos were by far the best thing we ordered, they were delicious - 4 stars. The Canadian style plate was just ok, chicken was dry but the poutine is great (although, to be fair, it is not actual poutine as it's not made with cheese curds, but still very tasty) - 3 stars. The belly buster sandwich was also just ok, the waffle was meh (bottom waffle got super soggy), the chicken was, in spite of its spiciness, kinda flavorless, but again, the fauxtine (faux poutine) was great - 3 stars. Having said all that, the service was awesome, food came out crazy fast, and the patio was super cute and cozy. For some reason the music got turned up wayy too loud halfway through us being there, but apart from that the vibes were, as they say, immaculate. This place often gets so busy that they stop taking online orders and there's like an hour-long wait for a table, so you'd think the food HAS to be good. I visited The Chicken Koop in Downey with my friends last Sunday. We had previously been there in February for Galentine's and had a great time, so we were excited to return. Initially, everything was going well. The food and drinks arrived, and we were chatting happily with our waiter, Patrick. However, I started feeling unwell because I was still a bit hungover from the previous day. I went to the restroom, and asked my friend to come help me. With me feeling uneasy I also became emotional and ended hysterically crying and sharing a personal and traumatic experience with her inside the restroom. I asked my friend to step out while I composed myself. Oscar, the staff member, told my friend who first exited the restroom that she needed to leave and implied that something inappropriate had happened between us. When I exited the restroom I tried to speak to Oscar, I told him we took long because I told her something traumatic, based on this body language and tone, my eyes got watery and I even told him I could share the conversation with him if it gave him peace of mind. He was very dismissive and simply said, "I got complaints, you have to go." And again insinuated something inappropriate happened between my friend and I. This was very hurtful and disappointing. He did reassure our consumption would be removed of the tab. If felt as if Oscar took the complaining customer side, and chose their comfort over ours, when we also were paying customers. The incident made me feel misunderstood and unfairly treated, and based on things he shared with my friend, it felt we got treated unfairly because she is from the LGBTQ community. I understand management was trying to do their job but the way Oscar went about it and the way he treated me and my friend was not correct, it was rude, dismissive, and very unfair. I genuinely felt humiliated in the premises due to his comments and treatment. I hope that management takes this feedback into account to ensure a better experience for all customers in the future. It was disheartening just because my friend was in the stall with me to imply anything, there's nothing illegal about that. I will not be a returning customer based on the accusations and treatment from Oscar which is disheartening because Patrick and our previous server had been great. I don't wish anything bad on this restaurant, just that you have better practices as you said you have in your instagram post. Overall the chicken waffle sandwich is good, they play good music, and their micheladas and cucumber margarita are good too. read more

I was blown away by so many drink options they have, it's more options than their Whittier location. Don't get me wrong Whittier is the best location also. I've only been to that location and this one. Presentation of the dishes beautifully made and most importantly delicious. I decided to try their desserts something I don't do, why not? I tried their waffle and ice cream. That was one good dessert, warm and crunchy on the outside accompanied with vanilla ice cream topper with chocolate. Early Saturday dinner. No crowd, no valet parking to pay in the small lot. It was my first time going, young lady sat us inside right away, too hot to sit outside. Martin took our order and I took his word that the chicken pozole was worth trying. Got the large for left overs the next morning. It was so good, the broth had a good taste to it. It came with a side of shredded cabbage, thinly sliced radish, and chopped onions. The chicken was in chunks so I cut them to spoon size bites. My honey ordered the chicken with grilled brussels sprouts and rice, he liked it but I made fun of him that they gave him 2 lbs of the brussles sprouts Nevertheless, we had plenty to take home for the next day. The Chicken Koop finally opened in Downey, we would previously do takeout at their Whittier location. We have always got their rotisserie chicken and sides to share. This time we decided to eat at the restaurant and try something new, I had the Tostada salad, my husband had the chicken wrap (not pictured) and the kids shared the Cuban chicken plate, which is rotisserie chicken, rice, black beans and platanos. The kids enjoyed the food and ate it very well, they didn't have a high chair for my two year old so eating with him was a little more stressful than usual but he still ate very well. The wrap according to my husband could have used a sauce, he ended up using the chimichurri sauce that came with the kids plate. I had the tostada salad, it doesn't compare to the one from Urth Cafe, but it's a great local option. There are so many options and the drinks looked great as well, we will have to try some other items next time. Our favorite part was the decor and ambiance, they had great music playing and it's very modern inside and out. Love the inside/outside feel and the greenery. The parking lot is a little small and so there is extra parking next door by the bank that closed or by the Autozone on the other side. The service was great and everyone was really nice and attentive. Hopefully they get some high chairs soon. read more

First off... if you're a vodka lover you HAVE to try the drink called "The Farmer's Daughter" it's a refreshing drink with hibiscus and pineapple. Besides the amazing service, this drink is one of the reasons why I keep coming back to this place. I heard about this restaurant on TikTok and from the influencer's video it looked like a great place to visit. Maybe this particular location was not the best one to visit. We ordered the chicken sandwich and one with waffles. The chicken breast was cut in half down the middle, which was overcooked. It left the chicken hard, dry and tasteless. We also ordered nachos as an appetizer. Having wontons as your chip of choice is not a good option for chicken. The wontons kept breaking because of the hard chicken pieces. We kept asking for napkins and eventually after 20 minutes we received them after asking for them again. The restrooms were a complete disaster! From the looks of them they are only cleaned once a day. Toilet paper pieces were on the floor, doors were left open with urine and toilet paper soaking in them. Remind you these are all gender neutral restrooms and they should be kept clean at all times for hygiene purposes. Prices were decent for what you are getting. read more
