Upon walking toward the restaurant, you'll notice there are two entrances--one for the bar, while the main restaurant entrance requires you to walk around toward the major street. We were seated right away, which was great, but it took about 13 minutes for someone to bring us menus. This was on a Saturday night around 10:30 p.m. I ordered an Adios Muthaf***a, and I have to say--it was on point, but definitely strong! For food, I ordered the fish taco and the shrimp enchilada, without pico de gallo. Unfortunately, the guacamole was a disappointment. There were tons of diced tomatoes, which took away from the flavor, and overall, it just wasn't very tasty. It lacked lemon, cilantro, onions, and even salt. The rice and beans, however, had good flavor, and the shrimp enchilada was actually very good after I discarded all the picadillo On the second plate, the meat was a little chewy, and the guacamole had the same issue as the first plate. We did order dessert--churros with ice cream--and that was tasty! Overall, I'm not sure I would come back for the food, to be quite honest. I might return for the bar area and drinks, though. We love coming at lunch or around happy hour. They have really great deals and pretty generous food portions. My favorite thing to order is the ceviche. I think they use really fresh ingredients and it's not too spicy. We also got the Chile Relleno. It definitely used to be bigger in the past, but they do a really good job cleaning out the Chile and the batter is really light. I will say the service has definitely gone down since the last time we came they used to be a lot faster and more accurate with orders. read more

We went during peak hours on a Sunday, so we expected a long wait, but we were seated in about 30 minutes, which honestly wasn't bad at all given how busy it was. The only small hiccup was that the host didn't take my number, so I had to keep checking in to make sure we didn't accidentally get skipped in line. Once we were seated, everything flowed smoothly. Our server was attentive and came by regularly to check on us without being overbearing. The food was delicious, just as expected, and definitely lived up to the reputation. If you get the tostada mixta, ask for agua chile salsa on the side. Thank me later. The restaurant side is spacious, but you can definitely feel the busy energy during peak times. Lets be honest. We dont come here necessarily for the food. 100% for the drinks and the vibes. Most of the new El Pescador locations operate 2 different settings, restaurant and a seperate "sports bar". Both are awesome, clean and service is always on point, usually any location ive been to. Food tho? Its mid. Big menu, lots of options, fresh, but very mid. Aguachiles are worth trying, Fajitas are IG worthy, but lack kick and seasoning. Cocktails and other seafood are ok but not something that make you want to order again. Drinks are insane tho, from the fruity drinks to the Micheladas. My first visit to El Pescador in Downey--and definitely not my last! From the moment I walked in, I was impressed. The space is beautiful, spotless, and has such a welcoming vibe that instantly makes you feel at home. I was lucky to be helped by Melanie, who made the entire experience even more special with her kindness and great service. Now let's talk about the food... WOW. The carne asada plate was absolutely to die for--perfectly cooked and full of flavor! It came with nopales, fresh pico de gallo, creamy guacamole, savory chorizo, delicious beans, and perfectly cooked rice. Every bite was a treat! And the best part? This incredible plate (and other amazing dishes!) are under $15 during lunchtime. You truly can't beat that. My wife and I love coming here, the vibes are cool and this location has a modern Mexican feel. We like to eat and have a couple drinks in the bar dining area which is spacious and they play Spanish music like reggaeton or they will play hip hop from time to time. They have lunch specials that include a beer. In my opinion I think most of their food is good although I haven't tried it all, I usually will get their carne asada tacos and it comes loaded with asada, guacamole and two tortilla which in between the two tortillas they put cheese so it's like a quesadilla carne asada taco! You can't go wrong with the aquachiles, sometimes they come out spicier than usual, the tostada de Cameron is always on point. Now with the service, the service during this visit was great, it was not a busy afternoon but when you go on a weekend when they are busy you may experience some waiting for service. The beers are always cold and my wife loves the Pina Coladas. The parking may be a hassle sometimes but it's worth it. read more

Definitely 5 out of 5 stars! I'm in town on business and our clients brought their kids. Now adorable but one was very loud and antsy. But the entire staff still had smiles on their faces. The food came out quickly as well as the drinks. Now onto the food we shared this platter the Tablon El Marisco Tour. Oh my god every thing was delicious. Definitely share at the table this was enough for 4 adults and there was still some left over. Then I had the Mexican Candy flight for a drink. I have no idea what was in those drinks but it was nothing but delicious goodness that danced on my tongue like a sweaty night at the club!!!!! And don't get me started on the oyster shooters. My friend and I came here after dinner hoping to get a quick little drink. The website says it closes at midnight, even on here it says it closes at midnight. Upon our arrival we start walking towards the bar and an employee comes up to us saying they're closed. We say okay and we start walking out and I mentioned to him that online it says they close at midnight. The employee proceeds to say "I guess" with a really annoyed tone and was very sarcastic. He then proceeded to walk very close behind us and basically rushed or pushed us out of the bar area. My friend and I found this very rude and disrespectful. If he had mentioned that the hours have changed, that would've been a much more professional and respectful answer rather than pushing us out of the bar and being disrespectful. The food is bland, great presentation though but flavor is super lacking, when the best part of your meal was the chipotle salsa..... something's wrong. The other "attractive" part of this place i guess would be the ambiance, the colors, the neon lights but that will only get them so far. This was our first time visiting for Taco Tuesday, and wow--what an experience! Right when we arrived, we were greeted by security at the entrance, who scanned us before letting us in. You first walk into a spacious patio area, and we were given the option to sit in the restaurant or at the bar. We chose the bar--and it was huge. The vibe felt more like a club than a taco joint: big-screen TVs on multiple walls, a DJ booth, and music loud enough to feel in your chest. There were plenty of seating options--low tables, high tops, and the bar itself. We grabbed a seat and ordered the essentials: Margaritas. They were flavorful, not too strong, and hit the spot. We were served warm chips and salsa, a nice touch to kick things off. Then came the tacos--every variety, and they were all delicious. My least favorite was the fish taco, simply because it was less seasoned than the others. But let's talk about that green salsa--OMG, amazing! It added the perfect kick to everything on the plate. Our waitress was great, though it was a little tough to hear her over the music. Next time, I'd love to come back and try sitting on the patio or in the restaurant section, just to see if it's a bit quieter while still keeping the same fun energy. read more

The service was the best thing about this whole experience it was fast! We were in Downey for a family thing and decided that we were going to have dinner together and one of the girls suggested this place! It's a really big restaurant divided by bar type of vibe and a separate family section! All inclusive type of restaurant so kids are welcomed. I did not realize there were different entrances so we came in through the bar area! Television screens galore and music was popping! We had called up for a large party so we were seated at the main restaurant. Our reservations were for 7:00 pm but were seated upon arrival! Very accommodating place. We ordered and the food came out so quickly I think we're still missing some drink orders from the bar when the meals came out, impressive! Enjoyed our meals and our company. Family went celebrate a birthday we had a seafood platter with a delicious lobster butterfly shrimp, marinated shrimp , bacon wrapped shrimp all delicious along wiith rice, potato salad and vegetable medley. The carne asada could been more marinated for a flavorful experience good portion size though. Had a order of chicken taquitos needed more chicken but was good, our food presentation was very mouth watering and eye appealing. The ambiance was upbeat plenty of party style music for those who like latin, reggaton and salsa . If you have children beware videos with a lot half dressed women ! I've been coming to this restaurant for over 10 years and always enjoyed the experience, which is why this was so disappointing. Apparently now they only give one batch of chips and salsa for free, and after that they charge extra. It may seem minor, but changing something that's been part of the experience for loyal customers for years feels cheap and unnecessary. Longtime customers notice when restaurants start cutting corners, and unfortunately this change really left a bad impression on me. While I do enjoy their food, I wouldn't necessarily come back here just to eat, rather, to enjoy the liveliness of this place along with them playing multiple sports. My biggest critique is that the drinks are overly sweet. Service (4/5): Overall a welcoming vibe! My partner and I have been here on multiple occasions and have had one time where he thought the waitress was rude and didn't feel she was knowledgeable in the types of beers they had on tap. I personally didn't have any complaint about how attentive the wait staff is and how quickly we get our food despite large crowds consistently here in the bar area. Ambiance (5/5): Such a fun place! The all seafood one is delicious and very well served for 2-3 people and the regular one, also 2-3 people. Came out with my family two hours before closing. As soon as we arrived we were told that the kitchen was already closing and we were rushed to make a decision on food as soon as we were seated. Only appetizers available so we settled. For drinks We ordered a Mexican candy shot flight and my cousin took her sips from each one out of their chilled glasses. When I took my turn from the last glass the regular watermelon candy shot my glass popped and the bottom of the glass broke off leaving me soaked like completely drenched and sticky with glass everywhere. They asked if I was OK, but I was shook up and embarrassed. It ended up ruining my whole night. They did bring us new drinks to replace the flight because the one we had was no longer safe to consume. They did not comp us the drinks at all or our meal and I feel like the whole experience was just tainted from the beginning. read more

I know it's Downey and my appearance may scream Latina- but I'm not... they started in Spanish, I answered in English.. they were still speaking Spanish. ‍ This didn't bother me much... but I was a little annoyed that they did not give silverware to the kids (I had 2 boys en tow) and no extra napkins- I was a server once.. this is a basic. I had to ask... and for some reason... it took awhile, although it appeared not busy at all and was an off time (3pm). Grandson started eating his rice with his hands Food: I was not impressed. I get better tasting food at the taco truck by my work and the hole in the wall by my house. My daughter came along and said the alcoholic drinks were good.. she ordered a cocktail that looked amazing (I don't drink). My burrito was warm but beans and rice were cold, kids food came out last and piping hot... my daughter ordered ceviche.. it seemed ok. On the positive, lunch meals are priced at $14.99. It is quite a large serving so my little and I had leftovers. Overall, seems like a good place for adults & drinks and maybe some snacks. Don't recommend bringing kids as they don't appear popular - no other table had children there and service was not inclusive of children. Personally, I would not go again. Be prepared for an automatic 18% gratuity if you go with a party of over 6 people, or if you spend more than $250, which BTW was not communicated at any point during the meal. And on top of that they have a photographer come around and guilt you into taking a picture and buying the picture, which is $20 EACH! We paid in cash for our meal and our change was supposed to be $6.40 and we only received back $6. Are we going to go broke over .40 cents? No, but imagine how many people they're shorting with change on a daily basis and how much money they end up keeping on top of already charging you for everything else.. just food for thought. read more
