First time here although I drive by it often... grandson wanted to go so I indulged him. Ambiance: nice looking outside and creative modern deco inside. I appreciated the comfy booths/seats and sturdy tables. Would likely be a nice place for large parties and get-together. Service: everyone is super friendly and smiling. I know it's Downey and my appearance may scream Latina- but I'm not... they started in Spanish, I answered in English.. they were still speaking Spanish. ‍ This didn't bother me much... but I was a little annoyed that they did not give silverware to the kids (I had 2 boys en tow) and no extra napkins- I was a server once.. this is a basic. I had to ask... and for some reason... it took awhile, although it appeared not busy at all and was an off time (3pm). Grandson started eating his rice with his hands Food: I was not impressed. I get better tasting food at the taco truck by my work and the hole in the wall by my house. My daughter came along and said the alcoholic drinks were good.. she ordered a cocktail that looked amazing (I don't drink). My burrito was warm but beans and rice were cold, kids food came out last and piping hot... my daughter ordered ceviche.. it seemed ok. On the positive, lunch meals are priced at $14.99. It is quite a large serving so my little and I had leftovers. Overall, seems like a good place for adults & drinks and maybe some snacks. Don't recommend bringing kids as they don't appear popular - no other table had children there and service was not inclusive of children. Personally, I would not go again. We went during peak hours on a Sunday, so we expected a long wait, but we were seated in about 30 minutes, which honestly wasn't bad at all given how busy it was. The only small hiccup was that the host didn't take my number, so I had to keep checking in to make sure we didn't accidentally get skipped in line. Once we were seated, everything flowed smoothly. Our server was attentive and came by regularly to check on us without being overbearing. The food was delicious, just as expected, and definitely lived up to the reputation. If you get the tostada mixta, ask for agua chile salsa on the side. Thank me later. The restaurant side is spacious, but you can definitely feel the busy energy during peak times. The space is beautiful, spotless, and has such a welcoming vibe that instantly makes you feel at home. I was lucky to be helped by Melanie, who made the entire experience even more special with her kindness and great service. Now let's talk about the food... WOW. The carne asada plate was absolutely to die for--perfectly cooked and full of flavor! It came with nopales, fresh pico de gallo, creamy guacamole, savory chorizo, delicious beans, and perfectly cooked rice. Every bite was a treat! And the best part? Lets be honest. We dont come here necessarily for the food. 100% for the drinks and the vibes. Most of the new El Pescador locations operate 2 different settings, restaurant and a seperate "sports bar". Both are awesome, clean and service is always on point, usually any location ive been to. Food tho? Its mid. Big menu, lots of options, fresh, but very mid. Aguachiles are worth trying, Fajitas are IG worthy, but lack kick and seasoning. Cocktails and other seafood are ok but not something that make you want to order again. Drinks are insane tho, from the fruity drinks to the Micheladas. My wife and I love coming here, the vibes are cool and this location has a modern Mexican feel. We like to eat and have a couple drinks in the bar dining area which is spacious and they play Spanish music like reggaeton or they will play hip hop from time to time. They have lunch specials that include a beer. In my opinion I think most of their food is good although I haven't tried it all, I usually will get their carne asada tacos and it comes loaded with asada, guacamole and two tortilla which in between the two tortillas they put cheese so it's like a quesadilla carne asada taco! You can't go wrong with the aquachiles, sometimes they come out spicier than usual, the tostada de Cameron is always on point. Now with the service, the service during this visit was great, it was not a busy afternoon but when you go on a weekend when they are busy you may experience some waiting for service. The beers are always cold and my wife loves the Pina Coladas. The parking may be a hassle sometimes but it's worth it. read more

We were in Downey for a family thing and decided that we were going to have dinner together and one of the girls suggested this place! It's a really big restaurant divided by bar type of vibe and a separate family section! All inclusive type of restaurant so kids are welcomed. I did not realize there were different entrances so we came in through the bar area! Television screens galore and music was popping! We had called up for a large party so we were seated at the main restaurant. Our reservations were for 7:00 pm but were seated upon arrival! Very accommodating place. We ordered and the food came out so quickly I think we're still missing some drink orders from the bar when the meals came out, impressive! Enjoyed our meals and our company. I've been coming to this restaurant for over 10 years and always enjoyed the experience, which is why this was so disappointing. Apparently now they only give one batch of chips and salsa for free, and after that they charge extra. It may seem minor, but changing something that's been part of the experience for loyal customers for years feels cheap and unnecessary. Longtime customers notice when restaurants start cutting corners, and unfortunately this change really left a bad impression on me. Blah! This is one of those places you come to once and see what the fuss is about and then you see why people only come here once. The food is bland, great presentation though but flavor is super lacking, when the best part of your meal was the chipotle salsa..... something's wrong. Service was ok, our waitress for the drinks and chips was more attentive than our actual waitress. The other "attractive" part of this place i guess would be the ambiance, the colors, the neon lights but that will only get them so far. This was our first time visiting for Taco Tuesday, and wow--what an experience! Right when we arrived, we were greeted by security at the entrance, who scanned us before letting us in. You first walk into a spacious patio area, and we were given the option to sit in the restaurant or at the bar. We chose the bar--and it was huge. The vibe felt more like a club than a taco joint: big-screen TVs on multiple walls, a DJ booth, and music loud enough to feel in your chest. There were plenty of seating options--low tables, high tops, and the bar itself. We grabbed a seat and ordered the essentials: Margaritas. They were flavorful, not too strong, and hit the spot. We were served warm chips and salsa, a nice touch to kick things off. Then came the tacos--every variety, and they were all delicious. My least favorite was the fish taco, simply because it was less seasoned than the others. But let's talk about that green salsa--OMG, amazing! It added the perfect kick to everything on the plate. Our waitress was great, though it was a little tough to hear her over the music. Food: we ordered a molcajete el jefe the temperature was perfect with a good taste on the salsa that they add. Had nopales , rice and beans and tortillas we recommended for 2 to 3 people. My mother ordered a tostada mixta she said it was okay they could have added a little bit of flavor to it. Service: our server was nice and polite and attentive to getting our drinks and food out . Good service from her part. Ambiance: they do have the bar area were they are playing loud music and have TVs playing different sports games. More of a side to go hang out with friends and have drinks. They also have the other side more of a family side where you can take your family and kids to eat and can hear each other while you eat. I like this place because it's 5 min away from me so it's convenient, but unfortunately, I had a really bad experience where my mother was eating and another server bumped into my moms chair and she turned around and got scared when she seen another server bending over she thought she was naked. Dress code should be enforced. It is a family orientated type of restaurant. I was so confused and embarrassed it looked very vulgar. Came out with my family two hours before closing. As soon as we arrived we were told that the kitchen was already closing and we were rushed to make a decision on food as soon as we were seated. Only appetizers available so we settled. For drinks We ordered a Mexican candy shot flight and my cousin took her sips from each one out of their chilled glasses. When I took my turn from the last glass the regular watermelon candy shot my glass popped and the bottom of the glass broke off leaving me soaked like completely drenched and sticky with glass everywhere. They asked if I was OK, but I was shook up and embarrassed. It ended up ruining my whole night. They did bring us new drinks to replace the flight because the one we had was no longer safe to consume. The ambiance is really nice, and you can tell the staff works hard. However, the restaurant really needs a better system in place for busy holidays like Mother's Day. We went out to eat yesterday, and unfortunately the experience was disappointing. I ordered the Mexican Candy flight, and every drink tasted exactly the same. I've never had bad drinks there before, so I'm not sure if they ran out of ingredients or were rushing because of the holiday, but the quality was definitely off. On top of that, we were charged extra for a second round of chips after the waiter took away our basket while it still had chips left in it. If I had known they would charge for another basket, I would've asked him not to take it. My family received their food first, which I appreciated because it came out hot, but I ended up waiting about 15 extra minutes for my aguachile. When it finally arrived, the shrimp didn't seem fully cured in the lime, it was warm instead of cold, and the tostadas were left sitting inside the dish so they were completely soggy by the time I got it. I understand holidays can get hectic, but the restaurant really needs to prepare better for large crowds and maintain consistency in quality. I normally enjoy this place, which is why this experience stood out so much. read more

I called 2 days in a row to confirm that I had reservations to be able to watch the game, 2DAYS IN A ROW! When my friend gets there 30 mins before the reservation they tell her they're was no such thing as reservations for that whole day. But when I get there and talk to the girl in the front she said they didn't have reservations after 5:30 because that was the last reservation. I told her I needed the manger, she brings "the manager" (some dude she took off the floor) and he said the same thing, I was telling them that they had confirmed my reservation 2 days in a row and the day before I called twice to double make sure it wouldn't be an issue and yet it was an issue. All he told me was sorry there is no reservation. I go the front (restaurant waiting area) to see maybe we got the wrong entrance. I wait my turn as a waitress and the host tells me to give them a minute I say ok. After that I told her about my reservation the waitress (dusty looking fish lips needs hydrating setting spray and some lip gloss) said the last reservation was at 5:30 and I continued to tell her we had one at 6 and she told me they don't have reservations for today and I tell her they confirmed that I have a reservation 2 days in a row . She proceeded to lie to my face that there was no reservation for the week ( she changed from the last reservation at 5:30 to no reservations for that day to no reservations all week) which I told her you just said to this lady next to you in front of my face and me that the last reservation was at 5:30 and now you're telling there's none for the week. She said "no I didn't say that no we don't have any" WORST SERVICE EVER! I wish I would've caught dusty fish lips name but her nappy hair was in the way. If you want to avoid crowds for this restaurant apparently you just have to wait cause calling to make a reservation either isn't validated or they don't exist or which ever story they want to make up next! We were a party of 8 so we are considered a large party where they automatically add on a large tip to the bill. Our waitress gabriela was only seen when she took our order. Never came back for refills and never brought our tortillas along side our salsa and guacamole we ordered. When we finally told the manager she said (with an additide) that she was busy attending other tables. We asked if they can sing to my mom and that took about 45 mins. They decided to come when we were getting up to leave. I don't think we should have paid $60+ for tip for horrible service. we ended up paying since we didnt want to make any scandle but u better believe that I will not be returning. Will NEVER dine there again. My husband and I went last Thursday to have dinner, chips and salsa and a cocktail. When the server brought out the chips and salsa, I asked for another bowl of salsa so I could put my salt in it. We were told that there would be a charge for it. WHAT??? Also the basket of chips was half the size it normally was. When I asked about getting more, again was told they would charge $7 !!!! What happened to complimentary? We called the manager asked him. The all seafood one is delicious and very well served for 2-3 people and the regular one, also 2-3 people. Friend ordered chicken hard shell taco, and fried shrimp taco. Other friend ordered cevinchi and my other friend ordered their ranchero. Food was good. Not the best but definitely not the worst. The highlight of the night was our server Lily. She was very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. She answered all our questions and checked on us very frequently. She also picked up plates as each of us finished. We did not ask for separate checks but she did it anyway, without prompting. Her service was amazing. Only suggestion would be limit the Faboloso. Unsure where they were cleaning as it was not in my line of sight. However the smell was over powering. Granted, it's nice to know they clean. But not inhaling it while eating. read more

A little overdue but here's my verdict on the El Pescador location in Downey: My best friend invited me to a lovely birthday dinner at El Pescador and I was thrilled for the experience! Like others have previously mentioned, the restaurant definitely feels upscale or boujie to say the least. There was an attendant and security outside which made it appear like some sort of nightclub from the outside looking in. As far as appearance-wise, they hit the nail on the coffin with this joint. Now in terms of taste, they could definitely step it up a notch. Everything was sort of bland from the Ceviche to my Carne Asada A La Diabla Burrito. For those of you who don't know, A La Diabla on any meal is supposed to be quite spicy, however the red sauce drenched on my burrito was pretty mild and flavorless. The highlight of the night were definitely the beer and margarita flights but even then I couldn't help but taste the same bitter underlying cucumber taste in each alcoholic beverage. However I'm glad my friend enjoyed his Molcajete which was loaded with a variety of meats and sides. The staff were also lovely enough to surprise me with a complimentary birthday dessert and sang happy birthday to me. Though the food was quite subpar I had a great time with my best friend and appreciated the experience!
