I went to Ola Restorbar in Downey on Thursday with my sister and nephew for his birthday. First impression? Big and shiny; very lively atmosphere with great music. Definitely a 10/10 for the music alone. I asked the host for his name but I unfortunately forgot it; he was very nice and attentive. Our waiter was also friendly and attentive, and overall the service was really good. The place actually gave me nightclub vibes with all the lighting and energy. I'll definitely have to come back another time at night to get the full experience. I ordered a basic breakfast plate with pancakes, eggs, sausage, etc. My sister ordered something different and after trying hers, I kind of wished I had gone with another option because hers was really good. I'm a fan of this brand, especially the Covina location, but I have to say I felt very disrespected during my visit yesterday. I understood that the venue was at full capacity, but it appeared that people were still being allowed in and out throughout the evening. What was particularly disappointing was the perception that certain guests--especially women with a particular appearance--seemed to be receiving preferential treatment. From where I was standing, I could hear conversations about who would be allowed in, which made the process feel inconsistent and unfair. I also observed a staff member who wears glasses behaving in a way that appeared inappropriate toward some of his coworkers. He was touching them in a manner that seemed to make them uncomfortable, which was concerning to witness as a customer. In addition, there was confusion regarding happy hour. Some employees told us there was no happy hour, while others said there was, creating unnecessary frustration and mixed expectations. Once we were finally allowed inside, the service improved significantly, and the staff serving us were much better. However, the experience leading up to that point was one of the most disappointing I've had at this location. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and works on improving communication, consistency, and professionalism. Food was good and they did honor the happy hour. If the restaurant knew they were going to prioritize the event, they should have stopped taking reservations instead of inconveniencing paying customers. A reservation is supposed to mean something. So, a coworker and I were barhopping and this was our second stop. I had been here before - not actually inside but upstairs for a party. The only thing I remember from that last visit was that it was loud and packed. Not so much this time around. Walked in, right up to the bar and grabbed a few seats. I'll mention that there was street parking available but I had arrived earlier and parked in the structure a block away. Not the one for Porto's but the free multi-level garage. You can see it from the Porto's garage. Service was friendly when present. He was busy prepping which wasn't an issue as he was behind the bar so when needed, it was easy to get his attention. Not a big deal as we were busy talking shop. Food was ok. Drinks were better. Sometimes I like boozy and the drinks I ordered that night delivered. Imagine balanced so there's flavor but with a kick. Kind of like when you're home and drinking - and then instead of making a fresh new one, you just splash more into the already existing mix. Like I said, hit the spot. Don't recommend this place. We came here to watch the World Cup match and had a very disappointing experience. We waited in line for almost two hours. The line was moving at first, but as soon as the game started, it completely stopped. They have a sign at the entrance that everyone in your party had to be present before entering. However, while we were waiting, we saw people being allowed inside because members of their party were already in the restaurant. That was inconsistent and unfair to everyone who had been waiting patiently inline. Another customer in-front of the line spoke up and told the hostess and the security guard about the situation, but they said there was nothing they could do and the host walked away and the security guard kept saying he just works there and does what he is told to do. The manager never came out to speak with the people waiting or address the situation. What made it even more frustrating is that the restaurant had a 90-minute seating limit clearly posted on the entrance door. That policy did not appear to be enforced, as guests stayed well beyond the posted limit while those of us waiting outside never had the opportunity to get in. We understand that World Cup games bring large crowds, but if you're going to post policies and ask customers to follow them, they should be enforced consistently for everyone. Better organization, communication, and management would have made a huge difference. After waiting nearly two hours before the game started and during the game, we left extremely disappointed and hungry. We were planning to consume. We were extremely disappointed by how the managers handled our group reservation. After booking well in advance, and making plans around the reservation, we were informed only four days before our event that our reservation was being canceled because of the World Cup related business opportunity. Canceling confirm group reservation at the last minute, shows the lack of respect for customers who have already made arrangements and planned accordingly. I strongly encourage the restaurant to update their policies and ensure management is better equipped to address these situations and respect customers trust. read more

We were there yesterday to celebrate a birthday.... We asked to sit in the patio.. The staff were very accommodating, and provided great service. They do need to work on a better system on when they bring out food because they gave a few people the wrong items or items that belong to at another table. Some people would be really pissed and would be sending food back if they saw that their food was placed and left at the table for a while. Just in the time that we were there (2-3hrs) they did it about three times. All the items that we got from the menu were really good and tasty . We ordered the guacamole.... And we got one with little pieces of meat sticking out of it that were crunchy and were delicious. We ordered different cocktails, like the Cantarito, la Chulada, raspberry dreams..... all delicious And they have a very big menu! Mexican food with a twist.... Some classics & classics w/ their own unique take so all of that was fun. What I'm not so OK with is the fact that a lot of the items on the menu did not have prices. I had seen their promotional videos on social media like Instagram and TikTok., and I even went on Yelp to look at their menu ..... some of the prices on the yelp menu do not match the current ones ... and yes, I understand that inflation and all of that happened but all I'm saying is to be aware ! and it was not the first time I was there but the last time I was there, I was there for brunch happy hour and we stayed long so we even got like the next happy hour lol So I had good memories of this place and wanted to take other ladies from my little circle to experience it. So going back to the prices, a lot of the items on the menu didn't have prices so I would say be careful with that! Some of the items that don't have prices for example, the guacamole on yelp I had seen that the guacamole was like 12 inch change & it was delicious but this one was $19.99, I will say it's a fair price because it came with pieces of steak but all of these things will make your bill add up, so be careful and be prepared. The cocktails most of them were between $17.99 and and $19.99 i've seen or had cocktails of this price before, like in fancy restaurants so ok and the size are good and they were tasty, but if you're not going for happy hour, which they do have very good specials for happy hr specials but if you're not going for happy hour, then be careful! The part I did not like was that after we left home, we noticed that they add up all of the items that we consumed and if you have a bigger party, they add the service charge tip 18% and then they add the tax which in Downey is 10.5% so we are essentially paying tax on the tip and from what my understanding is, that is not the way it should be calculated. My mother is a waitress and she has to pay the taxes on that tip that she earned, which is why it's messed up when people don't leave a tip. So this establishment is either paying the tax for their staff, idk ‍ which I wouldn't be so upset about again because my mother is a waitress.... But more than likely what they're doing is that they're keeping that money and that's not OK. When I called to speak to the manager the next day, the person that answered said that the manager was not available that they have nobody on the floor at that time it was about 3 PM. And I said so you have nobody that's in charge of the facility at this time she said no somebody will get here after 5 PM and I said OK can I please have that person's name and she said very quickly oh, I'm not allowed to give that information I said why not that should be public knowledge, and she proceeded to say that she was trained to say that she could not answer those things, so since I felt that I couldn't do anything else at that moment, I told her OK please let your manager know that I will be calling back because I noticed that you guys are charging tax on the bill after adding the tip and that should not be OK and I even proceeded to say that I might call back with my lawyer because honestly by that point I was a little annoyed because she was cutting me off. I did finish off by telling her if you were saying that you're willing to take a message then take the message and don't cut me off. Anyways, like I said food is good. Music is good. I wouldn't sit inside. It's too loud. You can't even have a conversation with the person you're sitting with... outside in the patio, the music is loud but decent and the servers were very nice, the food is good, but I do not like how they handle this bill and what they're charging everybody that goes into their establishment.... Went here on Cinco de Mayo (total of 11 of us ) we had called earlier that morning asking if we can take a kid and they said YES until 7pm, we got there at 6:30 and they told us no kids allowed. I told the manager (a guy with glasses) that some of our friends already had a table and that we had called in the morning and that they had said yes to bringing a kid but until 7pm and then I told him, at least let her (the mom) have a drink and then she can leave. Happy hour domestic pours are listed at $6, but we were charged $8 per beer across the board. When I flagged it to our server, she stepped away to speak with the manager, then came back, said "the manager was busy" and asked "Are you comfortable with $8 off?" as a resolution. I declined and asked that each drink simply be corrected to the advertised price. She seemed frustrated by this, but after a lengthy conversation with the manager (visible from where we were sitting) she returned with an accurate bill. I get that a Friday at 7pm is hectic. But systematically overcharging on happy hour drinks, offering a lowball settlement instead of a straightforward correction, and making customers feel like an inconvenience for pointing out a billing error are all signs of a shady business problem worth noting. We explained that this event was planned with invites sent, and they weren't able to accommodate us due to "The World Cup". We ended up here at 10 AM on a Sunday after the place we were going wasn't open and this came up as one of the closest sports bars. They have serious breakfast buffet spread they offer on Sundays, and if you don't w at that (which we didn't wanna eat that much) there was just a couple of items off the menu that were available while the buffet was going on. This place definitely seems more like a bar bar that also shows sports, than it is an actual sports bar. They only have four or five TVs and the main one appears to be mainly for DJs and possibly karaoke, and it was curved towards the top and somewhat distorts of the image unless you're looking at it directly straight on. The place definitely has an ambience to it and I'm sure it's a fun club to come to in the evening, but I wouldn't suggest anyone come here I'm looking for that sports bar environment. We just had drinks since we didn't want the buffet nor any of the items offered off menu during our time there. I don't live locally, so I doubt I ever make it back here, but if I did live locally, I could see myself checking it out for dinner or their nightlife. read more

This was our first time here. We were celebrating a birthday for one of our sisters. It was an easy check in process. Our waitress, I believe her name was Paula took great care of us immediately with our drink and food orders. The food here was amazing. One order was big enough to share with folks. We waited 30 mins and seen people that arrived after us get their food and drinks while we haven't even received waters. This place is not somewhere I usually visit. I was out with my sisters and we just wanted to have a quick bite and a margarita. I assume that this place is more of a bar vibe since they card you even at 6pm. Not used to this process for a restaurant. It is a loud environment so if you want softer ambiance you will have to sit in the patio area. They do have heaters outdoors but not sure how quick service is. Our waitress was great, I wish I remembered her name. She helped us pick a great cocktail that has cucumber agua fresca and tequila. It's not marketed as a margarita but tastes like one if you change the vodka to tequila. We ordered taco table platter that had 4 types: chicken, al pastor, beef, and carnitas. Hands down the carnitas and al pastor was my favorite. They're served with some guacamole and Mexican green onions (the thick ones) DELICIOUS! The cocktail stole the show. It was the thing I needed that was fresh, no after taste, and feels like you're on vacation. Thank you to the place for an excellent quality mini meal and drinks. The salsa that is served with chips is perfect! I would bottle that up and take it home. This place truly surprised me, which I'm happy about. The bar was busy people were coming in and out. Active place. Not much chit chat from the staff, but orders came out timely. I ordered a Platter for 23.99. Pastrami pizza, pepperoni pizza, wings and onion rings. It was good. Pastrami pizza nice. I ordered my beers at the bar because the tab at the group table was chaotic. I definitely feel like the sanitizing is questionable here.. we received our flight of Mexican candy shots on this soaking wet board that looked old and SMELLED like mildew.. it was hard to even want to drink. Even then the shots were hot, not even chilled so it was just not enjoyable.. for the price of the drinks here I don't think it's worth it.. We stood up from our table and went to the bar to order a shot and even the rags that the bartender wiped down smelled like mildew, just not pleasing when you're trying to catch a buzz. I'll have to say I had a good time at Olo Restobar in Downey. I never been to this location, but I heard all the hype about it and how fun it was and it's definitely true. My family always goes to the one in Covina and I have yet to try Ola but this past Saturday I had the pleasure to try it, and it was no disappointment. The customer service is exceptional, and everyone wants to enter it. Very nice and welcoming. We had a lot of servers and they was recommending things that we should get off the menu. Does it was my first time I had a lot of questions about the menu since they had a lot of variety of food to choose from and drinks. I decided to order the guacamole and the four taco platter plate. The guacamole was very delicious and the taco was very delicious and I like how they put cheese inside of the tortillas which made it even more delicious. I actually wanted to order more tacos, but I had to be good and watch what I was eating. The drinks are very good as well. I ordered the lemon drop and passion margarita. They make sure they get the drinks right for you. The vibe was definitely on point! The ambiance was fun with good music playing the entire time. It gets crowded on the weekends and more busier around 9p.m. They also have plenty tv's to watch sports. They have brunch and they have a dj so I recommend you come try the brunch. From the moment we walked in, the techno music set an energetic vibe for the day. What immediately caught my eye were the menus with pictures - a genius idea for a visual person like me! It made ordering so much easier and more exciting than just guessing. The service was immaculate, thanks to Gernardo. He was incredibly patient, helping us navigate the drink and food options, and he clearly knew his stuff when answering my questions. Since it was Taco Tuesday, I ordered four carne asada and four chicken tacos, plus two extra on the side, along with an Ulta beer. The tacos were so good, I devoured them too quickly for a photo!
