My twins were premature and had their first 2 eye exams in the hospital NICU with Dr. Epley. Luckily, my kids don't have long lasting effects of being so premature at 28 weeks that we are able to se Vy Mai on staff. This was our second visit to the Children's and Family Eye Doctors, but our first with Dr Lenart who I was told would be a better fit for my child. She is an adult who has cognitive disabilities and a bit of anxiety when in a new medical situation. I do NOT recommend him to treat anyone who needs any form of accommodation. He was impatient with her and rude to me, her legal guardian, telling me to NOT TALK, which made no sense, since she is not able to converse like he was attempting with her. He also berated me for not being able to give him all of the proper medical descriptors for a strabismus eye surgery she'd had nearly 15 years ago (and all should've been in his records from when we transferred there). She had a hard time looking at the lights and he did not use any friendly or positive conversation to try to build rapport and gain cooperation. He was abrupt and suddenly laid the chair back and tried to pry her eye open to see what he needed. All while saying nothing to honor her level of anxiety in the situation. He was more like a bully than a physician. I would have walked out in the middle of all of this with her, but needed to prioritize keeping as much of a positive vibe as possible in order to avoid backtracking in her recently gained high cooperation level on various doctor visits. He also went off on a tangent about her possibly having a genetic tumor disorder based upon what he saw in her acne. Again, had he actually given me enough time to talk, or read her health history, he would've known she has had extensive medical care and testing that would disprove his theory. Instead, he called her primary care doctor later that afternoon and was also demanding and rude to her. As a result of his call to her, we had to have a telemedicine visit with the primary doctor that day, with several more messages with my daughter's care team, including her Neurologist. To verify this assumed genetic disorder has already been disproven. So, Dr. Lenart seems to think he is God and all else are idiots. Last November, their website was flaky and when I paid my bill it showed "error, try again". So I re-tried twice after that. But they all showed "error, try again". I decided to call during business hours to pay the bill. However, a few days later, I found there were three identical charges on my credit card for the day I tried to pay online under "proliancesurgeons'. So I disputed with Chase, and Chase gladly resolve two out of three of the charges. However, the story did not end. proliancesurgeons sent me another bill of $20 in December 2023 which was the charge called "bank charge back" fee. I did not even look at the bill before I paid it! It was the charge for disputing "identical charges on my credit card"! And I paid that without looking at the details! So I think this was just an error and they can refund me if I call them. I called them, but they refused to do it! The woman is the manager of billing and she repeatedly argued that I disputed with the bank so I should pay it. How ridiculous? They charged me three times because their website always said "error, try again"! And now they asked me to pay for disputing with my bank? The manager was very rude and even hang up my phone without explanation. My husband had to call them again and explain that they should NOT charge us for their own mistake on the website issue. They manager was VERY VERY RUDE. That is the main thing I remembered. She refused to resolve this and kept saying "You paid three times yourself". She did not realize that I paid three times because their website kept saying "error, try again". I called Chase asking for help. They said they should dispute but they do not want proliancesurgeons to charge me again. We've been patients at this facility for over ten years (and my husband for more than a decade before that), yet I've never felt so disregarded. I misplaced my glasses prescription and called to request a new one; they told me to come pick it up. A few days later, i come by the office and the front‐desk staff informed me--without apology and in a sarcastic tone--that doctor signature was missing and the doctor wasn't in. Terrible, terrible experience - STAY AWAY! The quality of care has gone down tremendously in the last year or so (we had been coming here for many years). I have been trying to get a working prescription from here for my kid for the last 3 months or so, and still don't have one. First, each visit there is multiple prescriptions that they give to try out and confirm, which I itself is a hassle every year. They don't give clear instructions on how to confirm which pair of contacts work well and gives four boxes of contacts, which my teenager mixed up in an instant. Then, when confirmed, they say they can't give out the confirmed prescription in person, but will mail or fax! In this day and age... Not in person, not via email. The worst problem with this establishment is the attitude of the front desk as well as the Optometry department. When asked to confirm the birth date, I took a second (since I have 2 kids, I had to take a moment to give the right birth date), and the optometrist started laughing mockingly for not remembering the birthday outright. Then he stated that he won't confirm the prescription even though I told him the one that worked (although it is the physician who is supposed to do so). I questioned this, and every interaction went downhill from there. They became retaliatory after my questioning and said the prescription cannot be confirmed in 10 mins as they said before, and I'll have to wait till end of the day. Overall terrible experience, with no prescription for my kid 3 months since the eye appointment. Please stay away. This place and the optometrist used to be good a few years ago. Now they are condescending and will belittle you, in addition to not giving proper prescription in a timely manner. If I could leave 0 stars I would. I get a free eye exam every year, and I decided to go in and see an eye doctor through the children and family eye doctors because I had just moved and was new to the area. I saw Dr. Amber Cummings, who diagnosed me with "vitreous degeneration", which is actually complete normal for people who age. There was basically no treatment and she just recommended eye drops. And because of this they billed me almost $200 for the diagnosis. Talking to the supervisor I confirmed that I was billed for a diagnosis. Is that really how they treat their patients? We spent a grand total of 30 minutes here for an Ophthalmology exam on a complex medical needs kid (our typical time is almost two hours), and over half was waiting for the dilation to kick in. Dr. Lenart quickly dismissed my son's concerns of blurry vision as "attention focused." My child is hyper-social, and despite trying to be friendly, the ophthalmologist refused to respond to him, told him he wasn't allowed to move- hold a toy- anything. My son had the color glasses start to slip on his ear and the Ophthalmologist reprimanded him quickly and grabbed his arm, holding it down. I'm normally never one to complain about a bad experience, but when I got home and did some research there are pages, and pages of similar complaints of his behavior towards kids on other review sites. If you have a special needs kid or ANY kid with vision concerns, please consider basically anyone other than Dr. Lenart. read more

Well, all these bad reviews don't lie. Here is my story. I get a call from collection department telling me I owe somebody some money. I find out it is The Children's eye doctor clinic. I call up the clinic and asked them why wasn't I notified about this. They had no answer so I said no problem I'll just get an extra pair of eye glasses for my son. Within the year the frame starts falling apart. I called them to see if there was a warranty on the glasses and they said yes and that they offer a one year warranty, but I didn't qualified because my original order was placed earlier, but I didn't pick up the glasses until later. I said that fine and asked them can I just purchased a replacement frame, they said yes, but when I got there at the office the women said that he will also need to setup another doctors exam meaning I would have to come back later just to purchase another frame. Folks, that one star is only there because I did not have the option of 0. This place sucks! Literally in every sense. I have never been happy with their eye exams. Even the Costco Optical guy told me this prescription does not look right. I went again to get the prescription rechecked, they billed me for that too even though it was trying to show them what they did not do right. Then, in another appointment they never did any contact lens exam for me. The doc asked if I would like to try. She handed over the the pair of lens in my hands. Stay away from the optical department here. My son has been a long term customer, he got his first pair of prescription glasses here. This is the 4th year and when I received them, the glasses were made a line right across my son's pupil and he said he couldn't see clearly. I was asking the staff at the store, she said she did whatever the prescription said and asked me to go talk to my son's doctor. I was puzzled as the prescription never changed. She didn't bother to double check my son's prescription and kept saying the prescription said "right across pupil". I didn't have prescription with me at the time when I went to pick up the glasses. When I came back home and check, guess what? The prescription checked marked "Lower Segment to bisect pupil". So, it turned out the prescription was correct and they made the glasses wrong. read more

I went to Dr. Mantel for an exam for glasses and contacts, explaining that I need to stay under my deductible. As a follow up, they scheduled a 5 minute contact fitting. The latter was a surprise $160, but still under my deductible. We ordered contacts, where I explained to the gentleman that I need to stay under my deductible. He said they would check what it was before they ordered. When I went to pick up my contacts, I asked the attendant how much it would be, and she said no charge. Imagine my surprise when I get a bill. The charge for the contacts and the charge for the fitting were in combination over my deductible. When we called to complain, they deflected by suggesting they are different departments, even though they are 10 feet apart, and both bill under Mantel. They then blamed my insurance for being "bad". I work for a Fortune 500. My wife had a similar experience, where they pressed her to buy new frames instead of fitting lenses to her current frames, contending that the risk was high that they would brake them. We paid on pickup. When we later got a second identical bill in the mail, we called to complain, and they said "that's weird", without apology or explanation. II had a very bad experience in this office for billing. In 2020 I saw a doctor in that clinic and they accepted my insurance an no problem. In 2021 I made appointment to see the doctor and there was no problem until I receive a bill for $175 instead if $17 I called the billing department and asked why and the said because no longer accept my insurance and I said why the office didn't tell me so I can go somewhere else and not to make appointment. I was stunned. He started reading notes from our file, mumbling to himself, then he looked up and said, "so you're not talking to me now?" Apparently he had asked me a question? I thought it might be helpful to mention a few reasons we wouldn't be returning on our exit, being a business owner myself, I find this type of feedback helpful. The doctor seemed very short on patience when my son couldn't follow what he was being asked to do, this is a "child and family" practice. The first words out of his mouth to my three year old were "don't touch that it could electrocute you and kill you. We don't touch stuff that doesn't belong to us." He simply has his hand on the machine next to the chair he was asked to sit in for the appointment. When I brought up the concerning comment to Sylvia she said I should have better control of my kids and that the office supplies are expensive. I was then told that some parents sit with their kids in the chair so they can control them. It's worth mentioning I also had my 18 month old there, so two kids and a father in a chair is what Sylvia, the office manager, suggests. An argumentative tone should not be your (Sylvia) immediate response when a patients father voices a concern. In response to the reply 02/23/19. In the child friendly area I was on my phone with my wife (as your business "does not accept emails, as they are not safe"). I was asked to have my wife fax the paperwork over, which she immediately did. Some 20 minutes later the receptionist "just got it". My wife and I were discussing the appointment, if you must know, as well as how our days had been. The technician (Mona) was awesome - you could tell she truly liked interacting with children. During Moana's exam, I clearly answered questions that were asked of me. As I was in there, my recollection of this is quite clear. I was also looking for answers to questions that I was unsure of such as previous prescriptions and dates (yes, on my phone), as those were also questions that were asked. My wife and I were also discussing the appointment duration as it had been about 45 minutes at this point and we hadn't seen the doctor. Your claims of the conversation that was had are obviously going to be different than mine, and that is to be expected. I stand by what I said and my recollection of what was said to me. The statement about who's fault it is - My concern was that if the room is unsafe and my child was indeed in danger of electrocution, as claimed by the doctor, while sitting calmly in the chair as instructed, then there's an issue with the design and I see that as potential liability to you. I would give this place zero stars if I could but Yelp doesn't have that option, so one star it is. I thought I had reasonable expectations for a child's eye doctor, and was happy when I saw the fish tank and tv playing kid's movies, but that was the best it got. Dr Lenart was incredibly rude both times we took our child there, dropping a couple insults on us here and there (once blaming us for our 3 year old coming into the room and sitting my wife's lap--would you sit in that exam chair immediately as a toddler?). He basically just turns on cartoons, clicks a random object in our child's face and holds up something to his eye from three feet away, then mumbles his dictation really fast I to his phone (for some reason including that our toddler was very particular about things), writing a prescription and stating she might need surgery. We took our 5 years old to Redmond Eye Doctor that did a full eye exam with dilation. They recommended a different prescription and we followed their advice and ordered new glasses with them. Our son did not like the glasses and after two weeks we took him to see an ophthalmologist somewhere else. She gave us the right prescription and showed us how our son reacted much better to different glasses (with the right prescription). We then called Redmond Eye Doctor to ask for (at least) lens replacement. They insisted on us brining our son again for another test or pay for new lens. I see the great reviews and I wonder what went so wrong in our case. I was surprised and disappointed that they were not willing to at least replace the lens (without doing another test - which is not that trivial to do with the drops and everything). read more

We originally started to go to this Dr's office per our pediatrician's referral, and it was ok until my girl became 5 yrs old. We had no problem when our kids were more like a baby or toddler who didn't have to communicate directly with the Dr. I don't know about his skill of being a doctor, but, he was definitely NOT KID's FRIENDLY for sure from my experience. He didn't introduce himself to kids, and just said "One of them need to come to sit on this exam chair." with absolutely no smile (I had both my two yrs old and 5 yrs old for their annual check up.) It seemed like my girls got very intimidated by Dr's behavior and tone of his voice, since they have experienced only very nice smily kids-friendly ones in their lives so far... She started to cry and refused to sit on the exam chair even with me. She said she wants to go home. I had a great compassion and appreciation to all medical workers especially who are working in this difficult Covid pandemic time, so, I apologized him and started to talk to my girls to convince them this is not scary. I told them there will be no shot, but, just like a guessing game. In no time, the Dr told me "no more talking or discussion. I have to see other patients. You can either reschedule or you have to bring your kid to the chair. They are your kids." He also told my 5 yrs old "No more talking. You either have to come to sit the chair or come back some other time. " My girl was totally intimidated probably because of the tone of his voice and kept crying and saying "this is scary." We ended up rescheduling the appointment. My girls had never been this difficult in any other Dr's appointment, even in any dentist's appointment. I felt bad for both the DR. and our girls, but, something wasn't right in my feeling. Later on, I talked to my hubby and he told me "You took them to KIDS eye doctor? If that office is supposed to be for kids, then, we definitely can find better Drs/staff who more expertise in that kind of kids situation. I'm sure it's not an uncommon kids' reaction to any Drs." After hearing his opinion, it totally made sense to me, and we decided to look for more kids friendly/specialized office/Dr. One good thing was one of the front desk ladies seemed very friendly to kids. Be careful of Dr. Lenart! Not only did he barely examine our newborn daughter (~5 min), but he then recommended an irreversible surgery that requires years of rehab AND may cause an eye disability for the rest of her life. It was almost a blessing that he has such poor bedside manner that we rushed to get a 2nd opinion because his diagnosis was wrong! After seeing another specialist at Seattle Children's who thoroughly examined our daughter for 3 hrs (they said this was the minimum examination for the rare condition we were told she has), we found out that she has a mild abnormality that may require her to wear an eye patch at some point. I was struggling with an infection in my eye since late on Friday. Sunday night I went to urgent care and they gave me medication and said see an eye doctor ASAP as I probably need a procedure. My eye doctor is closed Mondays so I went to this place, the "children's eye doctor/family eye doctor" at 8am Monday thinking they'd either turn me away or if I was lucky I could get an appt to be seen by a doctor. I was told to pay $45 copay, have a seat, and they'd squeeze me in but I may have a wait. Two hours into the wait I asked them when it might be. No idea, they said. They did not check. I asked if it could be hours more? They didn't know. I could have sat there the entire day. If I'd been told how long the wait could be I could've made an informed choice. I asked for my $45 back. The manager came out since no receptionist knew how to refund me. I explained I'd have loved to have been seen by a doctor. Her reply was they just had a cancelation a moment ago for 11:00. So did that mean they would have kept me sitting there indefinitely, over 3 hours, or the whole day if no one canceled? It was not explained to me that that's what we will "squeeze you in" meant. Bad experience with this office. DO NOT recommend going to this office! They are ridicously overpriced. They do not know how to work the insurance plans correctly and then try to charge the customer more. There are WAY too many other good eye doctors out there to have to deal with the hassle of a bill. I have gone to many other eye doctors and have never had this kind of problem. Please do yourself a favor and do not go to them ! read more
