Came here to look at glasses for my petite 3yo. I told them of my insurance up front, and how I had concerns of finding a frame small enough for my daughter as she is very small, and that I wasn't as experienced with glasses as I don't wear them. The saleswoman said she was familiar my insurance, and it's 100% covered for lens and frames no matter what the cost was. With that, she went on to push glasses that were clearly too big for her - and when I asked questions like "aren't these too big for her?", "they don't seem to sit center to her eye, how should they sit? What should we look for to see if they fit ?" and "wont too big glasses mean they'll be heavier?" she would simply ignore my statements and say my daughter looks great. The glasses she pushed were $700-$800 for just the frames - and she knew. These are BASIC questions I expect an eyeglasses salesperson to know as it's their domain. She then made a comment that I shouldn't be overly concerned about weight of lens as my daughter must have a light prescription. When I told her of it (+4 in both eyes) - she was shocked and asked if she had contacts in. Let me repeat: a **3.0 YO** have contacts in. She was dead serious. I replied no, and she something to the effect of "wow, I'm surprised she can see at all" - in a very demeaning manner. Again, I expect someone working at an eyeglasses store to have common sense related to the field. Failed again. The customer service just didn't feel good. I felt the wrong glasses got pushed on me because they were expensive. And the salesperson knew nothing about what to look for glasses. I also didn't like the comment about my daughter's eyesight. Sure I may be a tad sensitive about it, but saying what she said to a very young child isn't helpful. Needless to say, we won't be coming back. read more

Caveat that this place is pricey, and super convenient if you work at Microsoft or other nearby firm - so much of my opinion is built on a foundation of easy access. Also, I didn't have glasses till late in life, so I don't have anything to compare it to meaningfully outside of an emergency visit to lenscrafters. Great selection of high end modern frames, zero selection of cheap or bargain stuff, lots of hiher end euro designers - Face a Face etc. But they do occasionally have sunglasses on sale (also mostly Oakley, Maui Jim and Rudy Project). They also have really good state of the art equipment and a pleasant bedside manner. Responsive, helpful staff but it's a small, personal experience, and during COVID, significantly pared down and individualized. You need an appointment right now (June 2021) to even browse frames, so walk ups may not open up for a little bit. Did I say expensive? They price the frames, lenses and services at the going market rates, but since they only have higher end products and tech, it's higher end prices for the most part, but they know how to exploit your vision insurance benefits rationally and smartly, which is extremely helpful. Once got me a "free" pair of prescription sunglasses to avoid losing an expiring benefit. read more

The good: location (parking is easy), facilities are clean. The bad: never get a call back unless you threaten to leave a bad review. I'm expecting a call back today. I'm always told that the provider is busy with a patient and will call me back. Front desk staff are always different. The "no words can describe how frustrating/mind boggling experiences": First visit was met with confusion on how my benefits were used. So what if I went to a different doctor for my eyeglass exam prior to coming to you for a contact lense exam? If that was not something you preferred, could've just stated that in the beginning and let me be on my way. Prescription is held hostage. When I asked for it, I was met with "the bad". This happened on several occasions over the phone, over email, and in person. Store manager also told me that "it's the law" to have my eyes examined annually. Well, glad I escaped jail time in the last 2 years. Store manager also thought she was doing me a favor by telling me how "horrible" my benefits are. I was told by the provider himself over the phone that he doesn't have my chart and doesnt know where it is. How does that instill confidence that things are being done right? These are my eyeballs we're talking about here! Front desk staff unable to simply verify if anything has been ordered or in process. Why must the provider have to be the one to confirm if anything is ordered? Front desk staff also gave incorrect information regarding the amount I have left to use for contacts. It went from the initial "$190" to "$100". When told they were wrong and should recheck, they were adamant they were correct. Asked for someone else to recheck and they went to the back to gossip. The other staff verified the correct amount which was $190. No apologies from the staff who was mistaken. Totally unprofessional. Fed up, I contacted the benefits company to verify if anything was ordered on Saturday. Benefits company confirmed nothing was in place. Lo and behold, I get a call back from the front desk confirming they have placed an order the day before. How is that possible? To sum it all up: if you like to wait around, never get your prescription, be quoted incorrectly on your benefits, love to spend 3x more than you would need to on hardware, this is the perfect place for you! read more

Dr Collins is a highly experienced Dr (like in the good old days). He deduces the best prescription for me, each time, and is friendly and efficient as he guides me to it. His old world mannerism and experience are coupled with the latest technological advancements: best screening machines, best tools for building my glasses in the best frames. The first time I put together a pair of glasses at Optix, I was troubled by the high cost compared to Costco, where I had shopped before. After I received my new pair I discovered a new world of glasses: Eye strain was gone, the frame was stunning and fit perfectly. It's been two years and I still wear these glasses and love them!!!! I had a fine experience. I do think the contacts are over priced. I kind of wish I had not gotten my first order there. The staff was nice and I did like Dr. Collins. He seems up on latest technology. I had a procedure done called Blephex to try and help my dry eyes...it was pretty painless and I feel it is helping (after like two years of using drops and ointments and such that didn't work.) I held off on writing a review as long as possible but I now want to save people the trouble of going through the same experience my wife and I went through. Having had contact eye exam in September, we still do not have our prescriptions for contacts or contacts ordered. I have emailed and called and gone into the office numerous times. The short answer is the doctor is always said to be busy and nobody else can ever confirm if anything is done. We are always promised a call back and never receive it. Most recently, after discussing at length that I was exasperated and ready to post a review, the doctor finally called back on Thursday promising a call back Friday morning to confirm he has ordered and would send me our prescriptions. Again, nothing and calls back to the office were met with a similar "doctor is busy, he will call you back later". It is now Saturday and having tried for the better part of the entire week, including visits in store where I was made to wait 50 min and told more incorrect information, we are at our breaking point and dealing directly with VSP. Save yourself the trouble and avoid this ridiculous headache. I am truly at a loss for words for how ridiculously terrible this experience has been. We have had 3 prior eyecare providers before and every single experience was wonderful prior to this one. read more

They have a large selection of very high-end frames, but not many that are affordable. I can't justify buying a pair of their glasses, since my toddlers get ahold of my glasses several times a week and I broke my last pair myself by sitting on them. My eye exam was thorough and made use of up-to-date diagnostic technology. I didn't care too much for the Optometrist, he see a little bit of a know-it-all, questioning the diagnosis I received from my physician that was an instructor at Harvard Medical School. read more

Their service is decent, and it's convenient, being smack in the middle of RTC. Their selection is pricey and upscale. Irritatingly, they have a habit of automatically scheduling your "next appointment" for 1 year after your initial one. They will then send you "reminder" emails and texts. My family and I have been patients of Dr. Collins and customers of Optix for over a dozen years. I usually don't give 5 star reviews... but they are deserving at least 5 stars... (details below) First: Optix is not the cheapest option for eye care. If price is the primary criteria then "don't go". If you look for the best possible medical exams and care as well as frames that will get positive attention and compliments as they match "you" for many, many years (and don't look outdated quickly", then Optix is the place to go. Not only in the PNW, but anywhere. Medical: Dr. Collins is always staying up to date on his education and the equipment they use. He (and his staff) are courteous, explain details and also get to know the patients over their time. Fortunately, for most of my family, the exams have been straight forward and uneventful with a few "double checks" if some result didn't provide enough information the fist time. Key moment (and why we will sure be always grateful) was Dr. Collings identifying a eye tracking problem at my oldest daughter when she was 8 years old. Most doctors (at that time or even now) didn't even hear of the issue and the impact on "reading" and concentration ability this has for people for their rest of their lives. thankfully Dr. Collins referred us to a specialist in Lynwood (one of two in the Seattle area) and through eye-therapy (exercises), the issue was fixed and my daughter is today an avid reader and does very well at school. Without this intervention, our last 6 school years would sure been far more problematic and we wouldn't even know "why". Glasses: I don't like to spend money.... but every pair of glasses I bought at Optix exceeded expectations. Lenses were flawless. Frames: latest styles and the staff is really good at matching frame to a person's look and how they use the glasses. Result: I never got compliments about my frames before buying at Optix... But every pair of frames I got their have only gotten positive feedback. And yes, they take good care after the sale and adjust and clean and fix any issues. while re-reading the text above, it feels like advertising... but no... this is not a "paid review" and every word stands. read more

A couple years ago I was searching for an eye care professional that could give me a very thorough and professional examination for my vision and the health of my eyes. I also wanted one that offered a good selection of glasses. Dr. Collins gave me the most professional and thorough eye exam I have ever had. He explained every part of the exam and answered all my questions. His equipment is the top quality. His wife Ellen works with patients on eye wear. The selection is outstanding. They also use Zeiss lenses which are outstanding. This five star practice delivers five star results. I highly recommend them to anyone in need of eye care. read more

The good: - They seem nice. - They tried hard to get things right. - They have nice frames - They have Zeiss "iTerminal" equipment to fit your frames, and their lab is Zeiss. The bad: - It took three tries (and more than three months) to get the glasses nearly right: o First try, they got a key measurement wrong. o Second try, the lab apparently missed (or wasn't given) another key measurement. o Third try, they got the same measurement wrong again; it worked (more or less) only because I insisted on using a "seg height" close to what Costco had recommended instead of what they specified. It wasn't a good experience. The backstory: I got a new Rx from James McMillan in Bellevue (who did great work), dropped the Rx at Costco to get some quick "backup" lenses (had them in hand in about a week, and they were spot-on), then went to Optix for extra-lightweight frames and Zeiss lenses. They worked patiently to get the right frames, bridge, and lens shape, and even ordered a custom "blank" for the lab to work from. So far, so good. (Minor glitch: I wanted 52x36 lenses but was persuaded to go with x35; shouldn't have let them talk me out of that. My bad.) They measured everything once the frames and blanks arrived ... but their use of the high-precision Zeiss iTerminal was oddly imprecise: You face the machine and it takes measurements, you turn sideways and it takes more measurements ... but they didn't know where I should face to be 90 degrees off-axis. "Where should I face to be at the right angle?" (The machine is offset, so it's not obvious.) We're not sure, they said; we used to know where to tell people to look, but we forgot. Really? It would take two minutes to do the math, put a dot on the window, and tell people "look directly at that"; instead they said this way, no, that way, okay, there. Presumably they got a measurement in the end, but the process was odd. They submitted the order. After a few weeks I called to find out what the delay was. The lab is waiting for your frames, they said. Really? "I was told previously that the lab already had the frames." We'll look into it, they said. Finally I got the call: Your glasses are in. I picked them up. They seemed fine so I paid and left, but as soon as I walked outside everything was a blur. The problem: They had set the "seg height" way too high. (The "seg height" - I learned the hard way - is where the lens transitions from long-distance vision at the top to reading-distance at the bottom.) I was looking through the "reading" part of the lens when looking straight ahead, and had to tilt my head way down and look up to see things in the distance. (Costco checked the seg height before sending me away; Optix left it to me to figure it out.) They adjusted the nose pads and insisted "It's fine, just hold your head like this". No, I'm not going to face the ground and look up just to see things clearly in the distance - certainly not at these prices. They finally agreed the lenses needed to be re-done, so the practice manager eyeballed my head position (so to speak) and said, "we'll drop it to 23mm [from 25mm]". The physician came out and concurred. (As it turned out 23mm was wrong, too; more on that below.) They sent them out to be re-done again. Three weeks later I got the call: Your glasses are in. When I put them on, everything was blurry. Why? Because the lab had used a too-short lens blank, so I was looking through an even-blurrier part of the lens than before. (On the lab order the field that specified the lens height was blank, but when I talked with the practice manager she blamed the lab. Whatever.) They sent them out to be re-done again. I told them to lower the seg height to 22mm (closer to the 21mm specified by Costco for lenses with a similar shape; in hindsight, I should have told them 21 - but seriously, why do I have to tell my optometrist what seg height to use?). Two more weeks went by. I got another call: Your glasses are in. I went in on a Monday, arriving 5:30pm (they're open until 6), but the door was locked and nobody answered the phone. (Their front-office person had a family emergency ... but why was nobody else there, no sign on the door, no voicemail?) (Actually, the voicemail said "We're closed for the July 4th holiday weekend" ... but this was August 29.) I finally picked up the glasses, more than three months after I placed the order. They're okay, although the seg transition is still maddeningly visible at the margin of the distance vision. I wish I had told them to match the Costco seg height; I'm trying not to regret that every time I put them on. But I won't be going back, nope. P.S.: Costco Issaquah provided superior service at much lower prices, but they don't do Lindberg frames or Trivex lenses. The difference in sharpness with Zeiss/Trivex is very slight. read more

I had been here years before, and I recalled the experience as good. Upon this recent visit I was so very disappointed. I got my eye exam done and went to discuss the prices of contacts and refilling an existing pair of glasses. First off the prices for their contacts are horrendous. Usually I have ordered a years supply without having to pay anything out of pocket because my insurance coverers it. They quoted me over $500 for a years supply of contacts which I would have to pay at least $250 of! WTF? I'm not entirely sure they know what they are doing since the person pricing out the contacts didn't seem to even know how to order a years supply of contacts. That fact alone was troubling. Second, when I opted to price out my prescription elsewhere, and requested a copy of my prescription, they said the doctor is busy and cant give that to me right away which is unusual since I usually get a copy at the time of service. It has been 4 days and I am still trying to get my prescription. I think they are holding it back because I didn't want to buy my overpriced contacts directly from them. I do not recommend going here. They provide very poor service, if you can call this service. You pay to see the doctor who won't actually give you your prescription.... read more

My visit this afternoon was not pleasant at all. The staff was not friendly nor helpful. She did not even move at all. She just sat by the counter looking at her phone. Since it was our first visit and we thought we would like some help. We asked her a question but only to get a one answer in return. She did not even bother to recommend or offer any other help after the one answer. We will not visit here again. I will not even recommend anyone. It is unfortunate that they lose a business from us as my husband really need one. Too bad they are too busy with their phone. read more

I've been going to Optix and seeing Dr. Collins since 2003. He and his entire team are excellent. The eye exams he does are fantastic. He puts a lot of effort into staying up-to-date with the most modern techniques for assessing eye health and determining vision acuity. Since he has worked with me for so many years he has developed a detailed understanding of my eye health and how it has changed over the years and is able to give me excellent guidance about care I might need. His team does a great job in helping me select glasses and frames that work across a range of my needs, from progressive lens glasses for daily use to glasses that I use for computer work. They always have a very wide range of frames so I never get bored over the years selecting more serious looking ones for work and more fun ones for daily life. My experience with this place was not very pleasant. I got good recommendations on this place and really wanted to love it. When I came there first to order a pair of glasses I was excited to see a great choice if frames which are hard to find in other places. I picked a frame I liked and was ready to place an order then figured out that my prescription had expired and that they do not have any opening for a vision test for the next two weeks. So I went across the street and had a vision test the same say. I came back to Optix next day to place an order but I was told by a lady who works there that she doesn't know how to place an order and there us no one other to help and that I should come another day. For me it was kind of strange to keep an optical store open without an option to place an order. So next day I left my office early in order to have time to place an order in Optix since they close at 6pm. At 4:10pm I came to the store and guess what - the store was closed. It was a notice on the door saying that they'll be back at 4:30 and I decided to wait. No one showed up at 4:30, I waited until 4:45 and called the store phone. I was told that they will be back by 5pm. So after waiting for 50 minutes for the place to reopen I got in and was told... yes, that I cannot place an order since the lady doesn't know how to proceed and no one else is available. I felt really embarrassed and told her that this us last time I am coming. After that the same lady was ready to place an order for me. Sounds strange, right? But this is not the end. I needed to get the glasses ready by a certain date in three weeks. The lady told me that this is not a problem, it takes no longer than two weeks to get the glasses done and that she will add to the order that I need them by a certain date and that they will let me know when the order will be ready. The "certain date" came and no one called me, I waited for three more days (which was a mistake) and called the place. I figured out that the order is not ready and they don't no the status of the order. They promised to call me the next say with an update. The next day I waited until 5pm (they close at 6) and called them. I was told that don't have an update and that the lady who answered the phone doesn't know how to get one. I asked her to call her boss and to explain him the situations. At some point I was called by the owner of the place and told that there is a delay in the order and they are not sure when it will be ready. When I asked why they did not follow up with the order they promised me by a certain date and shy I was not updated timely he did not have what to tell. Finally I got my order three says later which was 8 days after the date they promised. The bottom line is that although they race a good selection of frames next time I will spend my money in another place. I wear glasses for 30 years and this is first time I gave such a bad experience. I am giving three stars and not one only because at the end they seemed to work hard to get the order delivered. I wish they did it timely. read more
