Very good food. My husband actually brought this home for me one day and it was fantastic. I'm a big fan of Spanish rice and this place has great rice. I tried the carne asada quesadilla last time we went and I enjoyed it a lot. Their salsa and chips are all made in house and it's definitely worth it. The prices are excellent also. Stopped by Chile Pepper on my way to San Diego. It was morning time when we passed by Yuma so my wife and I got a couple of chorizo burritos and we also tried their bean and cheese burrito with rice and a order of rolled tacos. I know, it was a lot. Lots of things sounded good so we wanted to try multiple things. There bean and cheese burrito is delicious! Beans have great flavor, and their tortillas are delicious. The rolled tacos were good, but the meat inside was definitely on the salty side. Chorizo breakfast burrito was good, but not great in my opinion. Their chips and salsa could also use some help. We actually stopped by here on the way back too because my wife really wanted another bean and rice burrito and rolled tacos. This time I got a carne asada burrito and they stuffed this burrito with some really flavorful carne asada. I would definitely come back as I did like the majority of things I tried here. read more

We have family who lives in Yuma and once in awhile brings us burritos and tacos from Chile Pepper or Mr G's and we've always thoroughly enjoyed it reheated. Today, we made the trip to visit my family member and to have Chile Pepper fresh. Hands down the best burritos I've had, ever. For a fast food joint, our family of 4 can eat here reasonably and take plenty to go. The burritos are nice and filling and the homemade tortillas are absolutely delish! The salsa is a tad watery but the flavor is still spot on. Definitely worth the 2 1/2 hr drive from the Phoenix area. My brother had heard about this place from people that he had to stop next time he was in Yuma. I was in the area with my daughter and she is really into beans so we decided to try this place out. After seeing previous reviews, we decided to order bean burritos (more than one as suggested) and rolled tacos to take back to the hotel. The gentleman stated that was a real popular order and suggested we try the brownie also. We ordered two.... So here is the review of the food: my daughter enjoyed the burrito: she loved the beans and the homemade tortilla but was full on just one. I'm not sure if an adult can just eat one you may need more. I had the rolled tacos.. The funny thing is I ordered six of them but received four. These were just your regular rolled tacos from any taco shop, nothing orgasmic...The salsa was ok, a little watery for me and not hot. It also came with homemade chips (not bad) and beans and rice on the side. My beans were a little "toasty" and oily so I did not eat much but I felt the rice was good (again nothing mind blowing; standard taco shop cuisine). I was looking forward to the brownie, but biting into it was more of a spongy cake-like dessert and not a dense brownie. I was in Yuma this past weekend and while I was Yelping for a new place to try for dinner, I saw the less than flattering reviews for Chili Pepper. So I felt compelled to head down there for dinner and write a review in defense of an old childhood favorite. Service: N/A It is essentially a fast food place, so service is not really an issue. I will say, they work quick. You won't have to wait long for your food, unless you order a few dozen burritos, which after you eat here the first time, you may want to. Food: 5/5 I can't say enough good things about the food here. But you have to accept it for what it is, Mexican comfort food. This is not, nor does it pretend to be, five-star cuisine. It is burritos. It is rolled tacos. It is simple, yummy food. But for what it is, it is the absolute best you will find. I have been eating here literally since I was old enough for solid food. I have yet to have anything bad here. The rolled tacos are excellent. All the burritos are excellent... the machaca, the chorizo, the fajitas, a simple bean and cheese. It doesn't matter. They are all great. Whatever you order, you will be pleased. Just make sure and order more than one, because you'll want more. So what are people complaining about? Is it salty? Yeah. Is it fatty? MEH FOOD FOR MEDIOCRE SERVICE I showed up with my family at 3:00 pm and it was packed. It took us 30-45 minutes to finally get our order, the workers said they messed up several items and had to redo it. The portions were small and the food was ok... I order the enchiladas and they were nothing special besides the extra amount of heat they crammed in. (I am from Kansas) The salsa was runny, almost like diluted water. Chile Pepper is for locals. They love the place. I don't know why. The "salsa" sucks. It is kind of like tomato juice with some spices thrown in. My grandpa drinks it. The rolled tacos are okay and the bean burritos are okay. That's about it. The last time I was here, I ordered a carne asada burrito. I quickly learned that Chile Pepper's idea of a "burrito" is meat wrapped in a tortilla. That's it. No beans. No rice. No pico. No lettuce. Nothing. Just meat. When I tried to eat it, the damn thing unwrapped itself and fell apart. I now had a pile of carne asada in the middle of a flat tortilla. Awesome... When you're a newbie in town, naturally, you would listen to other people's food advice. So, when we first moved here, of course, I fell for the hype about this place. "Oh, yeah. You gotta check out the carne asada burritos. The bean and cheese is so good." Checked them out I did. Final verdict: It's nothing really exciting, but I mean no disrespect to a lot of people who were weaned off this stuff. Chili Pepper is a Yuma institution, and so, it carries with it a certain historical charm. And I get that, and I will still eat the been and cheese burritos, with the not so bad watery salsa. The ridiculous long lines at lunch is just that. Ridiculous. What's wrong with me???? I don't live in Yuma anymore, but when I go to visit, I have to go to Chili Pepper. Now, my tastes have changed through the years. I went to Kofa so it was always Chili Pepper, then in college it was Mr. G's, but then Mr. G's moved and started to suck! (What happened? Is the building too new? No more roaches? What happened to Mr. G's?) So, I decided to go back to Chili Pepper. Even had the scare back in 2005(? year) and had to go and get the shot (with 1/2 of Yuma) since one of the workers came down with a communicable disease. But, I figure, that only made them cleaner and more cautious. Nothing means home like Chili Peppers bean and cheese soaked in salsa. Going home on Saturday to visit family, but will have to stop and get lunch 1st. :) read more

In honor of my first yelp review. It just only felt right if it was Chile Pepper. The hometown hero. It just had to be Chile Pepper. I no longer live in Yuma, but every time I come to visit I have to stop at Chile Pepper! A dozen of the roll tacos and a bean and cheese burrito and another bean and cheese with rice burrito. They are to die for! And of course, always order extra of their delicious salsa that I let my roll tacos sit and soak in while I eat my delicious burritos . I always always recommend this spot. When someone tells me they are driving through Yuma I tell them they HAVE to go out of their way and stop here! It's a MUST! I know for a fact Anthony Bourdain would be a HUGE fan of this place. I remember asking a gentleman who just ordered 50 bean and cheese burritos, why 50? He told me he was driving through from San Diego and always goes out of his way to come here to take these burritos home and freezes them. it's funny because I would also do the same thing when I lived in San Diego and Phoenix. My drive from San Diego to Phoenix or Phoenix to San Diego. I would always go out of my way in the drive to stop here. The burrito are so cheap. The roll tacos are a little pricy but so worth it. This is GREAT Mexican food with a one of a kind flavor that keeps you coming back for more. I've been going to either Mr G's or Chile Pepper for the past few decades and have come to appreciate the simple deliciousness of the fare. I'm sure with as many varying opinions that Yelp reviewers have, it's hard to understand just how great Chile Pepper and Mr G's food really is without trying it for yourself.
