Terrible experience! The technician only cleaned the flue from the bottom and never got on the roof to check the flue. We weren't able to get a fire started and recontacted the company who told us they wouldn't be able to come out for another 2 weeks. We called another company who came out and found the flue to be plugged at the top. Pictures were taken of the problem, which we shared with the owner of the company. He has refused to refund our money and called my husband a liar. We get our chimney cleaned every year whether it needs it or not. We could have had a fire based on the blockage. Lied about his service and attitude towards his unsatisfied customers. His tec didn't go out on the roof to inspect his work. Had to call another chimney sweep to finish his job. Due to the fact he scheduled us way out instead of coming right out to check the problem. Then he comes out and believes his tec in which he never checked his work. We will never use them again. I was convinced that our chimney rain cap had been blown off in a recent storm. Randall came out to see what I was talking about and explained to me that our chimney has what is required for a fireplace gas insert. Apparently, what I was remembering was a cap that had been there prior to the fireplace insert installation. I very much appreciate Randall explaining to me what we had and why we didn't need anything else. For several years, we worked with contractors and spent over $25K tuck pointing, updated chimney caps, new flashing, AND then we even blew our budget and REPLACED THE ENTIRE ROOF. Imagine how frustrating it was after all that and our chimney still LEAKED! We were at our wits end when we called The Chimney Doctor. Bottom line: great for cleaning! Seriously, get them to do your chimney cleaning. Get someone else to do any other work. Terrible communication/customer service, severe lack of money accountability, and what feels like "we will get ours". If it wasn't for the great experience we had with the cleaning, they would be getting 1 star. I always start with the good. We had the Chimney Doctor inspect and clean our chimneys, and they did a great job! Very thorough cleaning, and they were able to keep the rest of out house clean! They provided a quote for some work within 2 days of the cleaning. If it wasn't for the great experience cleaning, they would be getting 1 star. Now the not so good. About a year after our cleaning, we had saved up the money for the work. We asked for an updated quote, and got it back the same day. I immediately responded saying to get us on the schedule, and asking if there is anything we need to do to prepare. I don't hear anything from them for a week. 8 days after the email, I reach out saying, we have the money, when do you need it. I quickly get a response saying they don't schedule anything until they have received the check. They never told us that. It's also not no the quote. You would think that is something we should know! I then sent them the check, and let them know its in the mail. 4 days later, I haven't heard from them, and I reach out. They say, "no check yet. I'll let you know when we receive your check so you know we received it." That was odd, because it shouldn't take 4 days for them to get it. So, I check my bank statement. They HAD received the check that was over $2,100, and deposited it two days earlier. I call them and they look into it. They applied our check to someone else's account! Our name and address is on the check and the envelope it came in, and they attribute it to someone else? Really!?! They get us on the schedule, they will have to come out to look at it again, but it's going to be 2-3 weeks. Exactly 2 weeks later, I email them asking if there were available dates yet. I get a call saying we are third in line, and it will be another week. Ten days later I get a call saying, we will be there in two days around 930 or 10. They said it will probably take two days of work. I get an email the morning of the first day, saying our appointment is at 10. 10 o'clock, no show. 10:10, no call, no show. 10:15, no call, no show. 10:17, they show up on the street. 10:22, they finally start setting up. They don't tell us they arrived, nothing. They get to work, and one item they quoted us (chimney caps over $520), was done by a bat expert (we had bats get in our house, and they got here first) for $200. Since they didn't need to do that, they said they would readjust the quote. They "find" some cracks between our roof and our chimney, that they want to repair. They quoted us $350 to repair. We say yes, and they do the repair. Now we have this pitch black substance sticking out 4-6 inches past where it needs to be, which is our roof line. On top of that, they charge us $70 less than we would have had they put the chimney caps on and not done the repair, even though the difference between the price of the caps and the crack repair is $170. read more
