This place is...interesting, in a good way. When I was told I was going out of town for a work event in West Virginia and this was the name of the place. I had no idea exactly what this place was. My colleague kept referring to it as just a Moose. And a lot of use know that means something else, more in lines with a bar. The person that invited us out to here for the event didn't give us much information about what we should expect. But I am happy I came here, because of how unique of a place this is. Most people would assume that this may be a place for ice cream and you'd be partially right. This place is a mix of things that you would not expect. First and foremost, it is a well used coffee shop. Even though there is a well known national competitor right up the road. There is a steady stream of vehicles in and out throughout the day. Inside, in the coffee portion of the space, it gives definite coffee shop vibes. Couches, armchairs, tables, books, magazines, etc. That coziness could be a big draw on a cold day. I had myself a chai tea latte from here and it was delicious. They are quick with their ordering process and making of the drink. What else is here you ask? Well, let me tell you. There is an ice cream parlor tucked away on the opposite side of the coffee shop. You can enter this through the coffee shop or from the outside entrance on the side of the building. This area, then leads you to another location on the lot. Putt-Putt. Behind the building, there is a miniature golf course built into the hillside. One that is West Virginian history themed. Another thing this place has is an indoor climbing wall. I didn't get a chance to check that out. read more

The ice cream is Hershey's and a lot of the ingredients are sweet and big brand, but the execution worked for me. This place is amazing! I love the atmosphere here. We came in during an interview for a news team, and the owner is super kind. He mentioned that this place has been around since the 80s and it's all about bringing the community together! They also have mini golf and a climbing wall. The mini golf looks so fun, and we will have to come back to play. Their coffees though... OMG they are amazing! They have a lot of options which can be overwhelming but you can look ahead on the menu. This is a cute coffee shop/ ice cream shop/ mini golf/ rock climbing place. We stopped here to get ice cream after dinner. They didn't have a menu for the ice cream, just the flavors were listed. We both got double scoops and it was too much ice cream (in a good way). They don't have much indoor or outdoor seating, the place was pretty small. This place is a jewel! Such a fun, extensive drink menu. I love the moose cartoons and the epic poem about their old shop cat, Mr. Feeny, in the latrine. I was sad to hear of his passing. I got the Moth Man and it was perfection. I dunno how they fit a whole damn climbing wall in that place but they did. I didn't climb but it looked awesome! Super adorable coffee shop! Passing through, I slept at Beckley Travel Plaza only to discover that they no longer had Starbucks. This was a 7 min drive from the travel plaza, and I'm so glad that I stopped here instead of getting coffee at the Exxon gas station. The place is cozy, with different types of seating. The menu is a-plenty with flavoured coffee drinks. They offer milk alternatives. I got the LL BEAN latte and egg, avocado, tomato toast. It was affordable and delicious. The lady at the counter was really nice and very patient with all my questions. Too bad I don't live nearby, but it's worth a stop for good vibes and food. read more

Sometimes there are small blips in your overall experience at an establishment, but occasionally you have those places that are just so damn good, that based on what they served alone you can't give it anything but 5 stars. Chocolate Moose is THAT good! Coffee shops are a dime a dozen, but The Chocolate Moose has something truly unique to offer. I love when coffee shops have specialty drinks. We of course need the classic latte, americano, and chai, but I love to see tons of flavor syrups and the shop creating lots of fun combinations to choose from. Chocolate Moose does this in glorious excess, and even go a step further with the fun menu display. They incorporate everything from popular culture, local legends, and the Moose itself into the drink names and the art on the menu. For those who don't know, the legend of the West Virginia Mothman is local to Point Pleasant, relatively close to The Chocolate Moose. I loved how they incorporated it into the menu, with their Mothman signature creation. A latte with dark chocolate, cayenne pepper and cinnamon. This seemed to be a popular menu item! You can also find nods to the Mothman legend in the decor, wall hangings, and even their merchandise! If you're unfamiliar with the Mothman, look it up! It gives this place some really neat local flair. Unfortunately The Chocolate Moose was having some issues with their mobile ordering app where they weren't receiving any orders, but couldn't figure out how to turn the app off. Totally understand that things like that happen, but I think every time a mobile order customer came in, they expedited their order, which unfortunately made for a 20 or so minute wait on our drinks. Honestly y'all... once I took a sip I didn't even care. Some of the best coffee I've ever had! The use their own signature roasts, which are available for purchase. For my drink, I ordered one of the signature creations. I was stuck between 3 and I let the barista pick. She chose the Broomstick Brew, which you'll notice on the menu gives a nod to Harry Potter, so I was excited for that. The drink was just outstanding. A latte with dulce de leche cappuccino, toffee nut, and vanilla. For Harry Potter fans, this is basically a butterbeer latte, and man oh man is it good! The smooth espresso was delightful with the butterscotchy flavors and the blended foam on top was the perfect touch, drizzled with caramel. This is a must stop if you're in the area. Worth a detour for a niche, local stop with a unique offering and delicious coffee! read more
