The restaurant, though faded and worn at the edges, is inviting and the layout is good for groups or smaller tables. The service is fine, too, but the food was somewhat lackluster. My shrimp were most probably frozen and not fresh and their breading was somewhat tough, the salad bar's offerings paltry, and the rolls were good enough but cornbread or hush puppies would have been best for the shrimp dinner. That said, what else is in Alderson? Subway? It's some local flavor at least and they have historical newspaper clippings framed above the tables which are interesting to read while eating. They do give out free corn fitters with maple butter with all dinners on Fridays though I discovered as I was by chance there on a Friday night. That's pretty sweet. read more

Hey its one of the only places to eat in Alderson.. might be the only true sit down joint. Have eaten here quite of few times.. my in laws own a farm here and when we come to visit, we normally hit it up a few times. Mostly have gotten breakfast here. Typical greasy spoon diner eats and usually pretty good. Nothing stands out but never had any complaints about the food. Lunch and dinner are little weaker for my tastes. They do have a little salad bar which is pretty good. I do think their grilled cheese, grilled ham and cheese sandwiches are pretty tasty. They do have a fair to choose from.. hamburgers, hotdogs, pizza, steaks and a lot of country favorites. Don't drink the water.. tastes like they draw it up directly from the river. read more

The burger I ordered (Mountain Papa - yes please) was fantastic, delicious, and the fries accompanying it were great too. The service was top notch and the place is clean as hell. The bathroom was clean and smelled fresh. I didn't try the salad bar (why would anyone ever trust a salad bar anywhere?) nor did I try their shakes, but my experience was great. Why 4 stars? Could have had a few more fries with the burger or had more condiments than ketchup, but hey - still great. read more

'Ello passer throughers: Big Wheel is the only restaurant in the area that is not a Subway, however, Subway might be a better bet depending on what you're looking for. I ordered grilled cheese and French fries, which tasted fine. Another member of my group ordered the canned chicken soup and it was less than fine, inedible in fact. I do not recommend. The atmosphere was cute and very 'West-Virginia-esque,' however, the smell near the kitchen was unpleasant. The salad bar was disappointing, although the pudding was the best in town. Overall, I would not discourage you from eating here, especially if you're looking for an alternative to subway, however, do not dine with high expectations. read more

Well for being about the only place to eat in Town I would say that it could have been worse. The service was very friendly and the articles on the walls were very cool. It was clean the food was hot and the prices were very reasonable. Not memorable at all but it will put something n your belly to get you by. read more
