Omelet Shoppe - A Little Slice of Road-Trip Americana There isn't much in Beckley when it comes to very early breakfast before hiking New River Gorge NP, so we picked Omelet Shoppe mostly because it was a few blocks from the hotel and, honestly, how wrong can you go with eggs and bacon? Turns out: wonderfully right. This diner is pure road-trip gold, the kind of place where time slows down just enough for the coffee to taste better. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, greeting locals with hugs, warm questions about their families, and the kind of genuine familiarity that makes you wonder if you've accidentally walked into a reunion. And somehow, they made us feel like we were long-lost regulars too. It was all very wholesome and slightly magical. Came in when visiting family for the holidays as we wanted something simple and comforting. (This place feels and looks like a Waffle House if you know, you know.) Pros Quanity- My omelet, home fries, toast, and coffee were about $13, so very affordable for some greasy spoon- type breakfast. Cons Service- Our service was spotty, and not the warmest, but can be understandable. Taste- I may have gotten the wrong thing, but overall there wasn't a whole lot of flavor (until I added hot sauce...that helped). Speed- Came in about 8:30, and it was 1/4- 1/2 full, but still took about 35 minutes to get our food after ordering. Not the slowest, but could have been better. Overall could have been a worse experience, and if you are wanting some quick, simple, Waffle House- style food, this is a good place to check out! read more

Yep, three stars is about all I can give. I'll start with the worst: The pancakes were awful... like rubber, and flat, they had no fluff to them whatsoever(way over mixed the batter?)... probably the worst pancakes I've had at any breakfast joint. Staff wasn't very friendly either, they did say welcome but the welcome is hard to believe when it comes with a frown or scowl. The only smile I got was after I took pictures of the menu and they handed me my to go order(realized I was going to leave a review maybe or just happy I was leaving, lol?). The most frustrating part for me was trying to place an order online... their full menu is not on there for some reason... that includes both menu link and order link. The only way to see their full menu is by going into the restaurant and looking at their physical menu. The good parts? The restaurant is laid out Waffle House style(which I like), where the cooks and waitstaff are on the same line, in the front of the house... so you can watch your order being made right in front of you, if you so choose. I ordered two Ollie's Platters, which comes with two eggs, choice of meat(ham, bacon or sausage), one side(wide selection of sides) and a waffle or 2 pancakes or 2 slices of French toast. My order was made to my specifications... scrambled eggs cooked well for one and over easy for the other, and crispy bacon and hash browns. Prices are average(maybe a little higher) for a breakfast place. Restaurant does get a lot of business and I'll probably go back at some point when I don't feel like cooking at home... unless I can find a better breakfast place to go to. read more

Stopped here for a late dinner on a ridiculously long road trip. We seated ourselves and were given sticky menus. That's not a complaint -- it wouldn't have felt like a 24 hour diner if they hadn't been. The menus were bright and easy to read which is much appreciated from someone who now needs readers. Waitress was super sweet. She wiped down the table and brought us big glasses of water and silverware. She kept our waters filled and even brought us extra ice without us asking. I ordered the Spanish omelet with hashbrowns and biscuit. Omelet was good with a generous helping of salsa on top and lots of American cheese. Hashbrowns were good but could have been a little crispier. Son ordered the chicken platter and enjoyed his two chicken breasts with sides. Prices were reasonable. First of all I have to say if you're familiar with and like Waffle Houses then you'll really like Beckley Omelet Shoppe because they are basically carbon copies of each other ( same layout, same menu, same size ) We ordered the Waffle Breakfast & the Cheesesteak Omelet. Both were excellent with nice sized portions. In my opinion even better than Waffle house Waffles. I'm not giving 5-Stars for the food, but for the Institution. The Omelet Shoppe is a Beckley landmark. Generations of locals and I-64 travelers (like my wife and I) have dined here. My wife and I wish to thank and hope God's blessings on all the staff for sacrificing their Christmas Holiday to serve us weary travelers on Christmas night. Now the food is not gourmet. It is great comfort food served fast and hot in a Mom & Pop-owned "Waffle House"-style joint. Our waitress never let our coffee mugs go empty. BTW, she made a fresh pot of decaf coffee specifically for us. She was warm & charming as we thanked her for sacrificing her Holiday. I had the Country Boy Omelet: sausage, hashbrowns, onions and cheese covered in milk sausage gravy. I asked for the biscuit as a side which was covered in more milk sausage gravy!! I'm a milk sausage gravy nut, this entire order was heaven for me. My wife had the Western Omelet: Ham, onions, bell peppers, and cheese with a spicey salsa on the side. I ate the spicey salsa atop my sliced tomatoes. She loved her omelet regardless. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming and friendly to everyone entering within. Definite hole in the wall, but don't pass it by. My dad and I went here for breakfast before a day of hiking--we wanted a local spot and decided not to be scared away by the reviews. Sometimes the shabby spots are the best. Now "the best" is certainty a stretch here--it was mostly good. Coffee was strong, service was friendly. My potatoes were well done as I asked and honestly delicious. Biscuit and eggs were average. Bacon was pretty gross, though, as it was thin, greasy, and basically dissolved in my mouth. Looks like it used to was some other sort of breakfast establishment that has been repurposed for omeletting but the menu and decor still speak of waffler times. Needed some breakfasts and an omelette sounded good so, with minor misgivings, here I am. Wasn't exactly sure what I wanted but eggs and sausage gravy were important but nothing real biscuity since I was going to on the road all day... country boy omelette fit the bill: sausage, hash browns, cheese, and onion inside w/ sausage gravy outside plus grits, toast, hot coffee, and iced water. Eggs were fluffy but firm with a whole 'nother small plate breakfast inside. Sausage gravy smooth and lightly peppered with bits throughout. The whole thing came together nicely and could be eaten with a spoon. Big bowl of grits had a nice firm texture, no grit, no soup, just little bits of corns. We usually eat here twice per week. Watch your ticket because they offer specials like free drink with purchase of a sandwich. Look your ticket over because we got home and discovered we had been charged. Tuesday is half price omelets and their omelets are great. We had disturbing experience yesterday because the cook was more interested in being on her phone. Half my food was on my husband's plate and half his on my plate. Food did not come out all at once so food is getting cold. And it was slow time of day. Their coffee is always fresh and hot. Anything that is open when my cravings hit is okay with me. I wasn't expecting much at 6:30 a.m. from a place that looked like a downgraded IHOP, but I was hungry and it looked like it would be easy on my pocket. Our server was nice and kept coming by to refill our coffee and water. Don't get that a lot at establishments like this. I ordered the mushroom omelet with cheese and my coworker got the corned beef hash and scrambled eggs. Sitting by the counter lets you see your food being prepared. I already knew the majority of the items on the menu wouldn't be fresh and I've worked in a restaurant before. I know how it is. I still couldn't help but laugh when I saw the cartons of liquid egg being poured into pans coated in butter. Felt like a diner back at home. I didn't understand what other Yelpers meant when they said the ingredients would be inside the omelet, but then I received mine and it all made sense. They cook the egg, place the mushrooms and cheese on the inside, and fold the egg over. That's it. Not quite an omelet, but it tasted alright. Coworker's corned beef hash was very very greasy, but she ate it and said it was good. If we ever get the munchies in the middle of the night, we'll be back... Traveling from Ohio to NC, we stopped by The Omlette Shoppe to have lunch. Entering, there were 6 sitting at the bar and 3 at a table. Standing at the door one of the patrons said to seat ourselves and the server would be by. We went to the first table and that was dirty. Went to the second table and that was dirty, and finally sat at the third table. There were 2 waitresses on duty. We waited while one waitress took 5 minutes to restock styrofoam cups, never looking up. The other waitress was walking through the dining room but never stopped by. The stocking waitress after finishing went to her tables to check on refills. Again never acknowledging us. The other waitress went to a table that sat 10 minutes after we sat and took the order of her regular friend. We have no been sitting at our table without even an acknowledgement or hello. I made eye contact with one of the cooks hoping he would send someone our way , but turned away. After 20 minutes sitting, we got up to leave. One of the regular at the bar said"You folks haven't eaten yet". I replied " Hell, we haven't even been served yet". I can understand if it was busy, but it was not. The waitresses chose to be lazy, and did not want to serve any longer. Avoid this Place ! read more

My husband, son and I stopped here one morning for breakfast and we were impressed by the food and wait staff. My son only ever eats super crispy not burnt bacon and this place was the only place that got it right! My omelette was loaded with ham, cheese and potatoes and flavor and was husband couldn't stop saying how great the hash was! We loved the juke box! Someone started playing 'take me home, country roads' the whole place started to sing! Great experience! Omelette was fair, hash browns had an off taste. Never had an omelet cooked with just throwing the ingredients inside of the cooked egg instead of cooking the ingredients in with the egg.
