Smoke Datt is back in the building. 1 Star = It's Not Good 2 Stars = Something's Missing 3 Stars = It's Ok 4 Stars = It's Good 5 Stars = it's Bangin! There's one permanent BBQ place and 2 pop-up caterers on rotation/schedule. I'm feeling sluggish, BBQ is the last thing I want. But then the memories of my first Smoke Datt rib returns. It looked dry, but on that day I wanted BBQ, so dry or not I'm Fat Guy from the Spy Who Shagged Me. It was like yesterday when i went in for that bite but OH! Meat falling, tongue rejoicing. Teeth! Be gentle. This bone may look like bark (I'm exaggerating the appearance) but there was no bite. A picture of Smoke Datt may show up in your App Store while looking for something else because it's Tender. It was good, somebody SMOKED DATT with prejudice towards swine. What that pig do to you?!? Fast forward, I don't want bbq because I'm already tired. Ok I give in. 3 bones, My Momma's baked Mac & Cheese (yeah, I know where that recipe came from j/k), Cole Slaw, (I usually get the baked beans) and a Diet Coke. Why diet? I like Diet. Was I tired afterwards? YES! Any regrets? Nope! Would I do it again? See you all next week because Smoke Datt was BANGIN on my taste buds singing baby come back and the meal wasn't even over. I am critic. Oh, 1 more thing. Eat a bone without sauce. True BBQ. Sorry No pictures, next time I'll take pictures before devouring, and update this post with the pics. ------ I went back. And today, It was hot outside and tropical smoothie was in my mind. What?!? Smoke Datt is back. Ok, let me just get the ribs a la cart to post the pics I promised. I just want the ribs. She smiles and goes in her tiny voice "you don't want any macaroni and cheese?" I go "Nawww," she ask "you sure?".... Give it to me! . You KNOW I want some of THAT........BAKED MAC & CHEESE. "You can get another side".....well it is just $1 more. Ok ok, I haven't tried the green beans. Corn bread please. Paid in disgrace . Ok, I was super busy so I didn't get to my food for 3 hours. Warmed it up and was going to go down stairs to a table. Food smells great. Let me just....before I get to the stairs.....taste this. Oh.....OH. This window seal is just fine . Who needs a chair? Ribs- I don't know what I was on when last time I said that the ribs looked dry. Look at the PICS......Juicy! Why is it so Smokey good. Like seriously, this is what Dave, Mission, Myron Mixon's Pitmaster, and yo Daddy call The End of their manhood. Just close your stores. The second someone backs DATT with some funds. It's OVER. Let the right person get a hold of one of these ribs and watch the meat fall off before he raises it to his mouth. The Mac - Music was playin "Retuuurn of, the Mac!" My life of Mac and Cheese flashed before my eyes. Big bad Wolf BBQ, Rocklands, Famous Dave's, Mission, Chuck Fil A, Myron Mixon's Pitmaster, Sweet fire Donna's (with her burnt ends) my mom's, and my grandma's (I swear my thumbs tripped and this is a typo if someone tells her) for the record, if I ever gave any of those places a 5, I'm sorry, I take it back. There Good - 4 stars at best. The Green Beens - I only got the green bean's because I had a taste for corn bread. I have nothing to say. Just one question. Why are these green beans so GOOD!?! What did you what did you what did you PUT in here? Nooo, green beans don't taste like this. Seasoned perfectly. Not salty, SEASONED. Corn Bread - Mannn, the consistency wasn't like cornbread: it was like corn cake lol. But taste like cornbread, but better. It's like the change in texture just did something for my life. I may have just been extra.....but YOU weren't on that window ledge in the hallway, happy as can be while Colonels, Generals and Secretary's of Defense are walking by, and I'm just nam nam nam trying to hide my face. DATT is Bangin! I am critic

SLOPPY JOES!! 'Member them? When's the last time you had one? Don't feel like cooking it? Well @neatmeat is the good truck that HAS them...that has perfected them!! Their menu is super simple and effective!! There's the Joey Melt ( which I mistook for their Stay Classy Joe) that comes with ground beef brisket in their special tomato sauce, honey caramelize onions, and classic American cheese (pictured-$10), their Pesjoe that is chopped chicken marinated in a Italian pesto sauce topped with a sun-dried tomato sauce, and mozzarella (pictured-$10), and their Miso Joe which is vegan, and is a mixture of tofu, mushrooms, and eggplant topped off with a spicy carrot pineapple slaw (pictured-$10). The Joey Melt was refreshing, and nostalgic to taste. Blended well with those caramelized onions, and honey, this is the upgraded Sloppy Joe you didn't know you needed in your life!! When you visit them, you MUST try it. Y'all that chicken jont!!! STAMP!! You tasted each ingredient in this sandwich. This is something you've never had before!! Get it!!Now the vegan joint was straight savory, with a meaty consistency. I don't even like slaw, but that pineapple carrot slaw made the flavor of this sandwich stand out. I also copped their Mac n Cheese (pictured-$4), bread pudding (pictured-$4). The Mac n Cheese was decent, and the bread pudding was delicious with that raspberry sauce that brought the whole meal together. Now on their website they have many other sandwich options like A Turkey club joint, a jerk chicken sandwich, and a all lamb Joe. Ok so there is no address to this spot, it's a food truck that sets up at events. To keep updated on where they're at visit them on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. You won't forget this spot when you go...cause I know you're going to go!! I had their original Stay Classy Joe which is a large serving of regular ground beef and tomato sauce with a little bit of onion and bell pepper on a tasty bun. This is definitely a step up from say your school cafeteria and is about on par with the sloppy joe mix you'd make at home. It's not bad and definitely okay for what is but I've had better sandwiches for $7. I might get this again or try something else here but this truck is about average, nothing more and nothing less. Also, they were out of napkins which was annoying.

Because I've not found real Louisiana boudin anywhere else in the DC area, and because of the family's hospitality, I will give them 4 stars. The Jambalaya Shack is a catering business that was present at this past weekend's Breaux Vineyards Cajun Festival. They're from southern Louisiana, and seem to get invited to cater many of their events. They had jambalaya, corn maque choux, and boudin links. Because I was waiting on live boiled crawfish from another vendor, I decided to just share a link of boudin for $5. Their young boy said after I ordered, "Sure! You have to ring the boudin bell!" So I did, while his mother laughed and wrapped up a link for me. She made sure I knew how to eat it (I did), and I asked her if it was spicy or not (she said not at all...probably due to the DC clientele...but that they were good and that they shipped them straight from Louisiana). They also had an assortment of mild Cajun seasonings and hot sauces. It was not the best boudin I've ever had (that one goes to the Boudin King in Louisiana), but it was slightly better than the boudin I can get at the grocery store in Texas (but bigger). The Jambalaya Shack's also had good amounts of little liver pieces in it. I wish I had had hotter seasonings (cayenne chile powder would have been awesome) to spice it up with... I wish I had also tried their namesake jambalaya, but it was the chicken/sausage variety and other than the boudin, I was in the mood for seafood. I do think I was the only person I saw at the festival that tried the boudin (or probably knew what it was). Speaking of seafood, the other caterer's boiled crawfish was bland, and Jambalaya Shack was nice enough to let us have some of their seasonings. They saved the day.
