Great bar with great bar food. Burgers are really good. Friendly staff. I've been there several times and have not been disappointed.

Haven't tried the food but came here with some friends for drinks. The bar is open until 2 AM (sidenote I noticed that the clock by the bar is 10 minutes ahead). Classic dive bar feel, staff was friendly and knew/had good conversations with a lot of the regulars. FYI they are quite strict with the close time and shuffle everyone into the small vestibule/ make them go around the back to exit. read more

For a pub/bar, the food was good! Also plentiful and quick. The fried pickles, Korean Brussels sprouts and fried green tomatoes were exceptional. The loaded tots were plentiful, and all the main courses were so large! Recommend the tacos and the smash burger. The servers were so nice and accommodating. We were there for a pre-wedding gathering so there were a lot of us, and they were friendly & so personable. It was karaoke night, and there are definitely some really good singers. I ordeedI ground beef tacos with a corn tortilla and it came with flour tortillas and dried out steak The reorder (and after I was blamed ) was put in but not by my demanding and it came back with corn tortillas and steak which was also dried out and nasty and they could not even provide basic hot sauce to correct the situation. This place is an absolute gem! In my opinion their burgers are the best in New Jersey! No doubt about it and I've had them all at the Jersey Shore. Barnacle Bills, Grand Tavern, etc, This is my second time visiting and I felt compelled to write this review. The burgers are 10iz, the meat is so flavorful and juicy and they actually cook the burger the temperature you request. Nope, no overcooked burgers here. Pure perfection! You get your choice of fries or salad and let me tell you the sweet potato fries are just heavenly. Even the side salad with balsamic is delicious. It's not a fancy place more of a bar setting with some outside tables but the food and service are too notch. Our server Erin was great. Very attentive and friendly. Dan, the bartender, was great as well. I highly recommend Chubby Pickles especially their burgers. Trust me you need to try it. Chill place, cute name, cool little stage in the corner for live music, good location, indoor/outdoor seating is a plus, street parking. Unfortunately the food is a 0/10. It's actually sort of an abomination to boast having the best burger in the area because yikes. However, if they gave their recipes and menu a face lift, they could actually stand a chance because of the prior reasons listed. read more

One of my favorite local watering holes. Featured on Diners Drive Ins and Dives. This is a dive bar in Highlands NJ that's dank but comfy with a friendly crowd and a fun funky menu. They make tasty scratch dishes with fun appetizers and epic burgers. There's a few entrees and even a few healthy choices. This is the avocado toast burger. 10oz hand formed Patty with chipotle aioli house pico, Jack cheese on butter garlic Texas toast. The fries are just fantastic!!! I couldn't finish it but I did take about half of the behemoth burger home. Great staff and fun crowd you'll find a mixed crowd of young and old but all good people all the time. Live music and events year round. They were my pick in last years Town Bar Crawl and margarita contest. I gave 5 stars because this place is exactly what it should be. Emailed during the week to let them know we would be 7 people for a 65th birthday. They responded quickly. When we got there there was a band playing inside. Our table was near the speakers. Had the burger tonight and wasn't impressed. It was way over seasoned with some kind of rub. You can get away with just sea salt if you're using ok beef you don't need anything other than a little salt .I will be back because the staff was superb and really makes you feel comfortable. This place was such a pleasant surprise! It looks very small and quaint from the outside, but has an awesome chill vibe on the inside. The staff was super friendly and during covid, everything felt super safe. The seating was outdoors but there were umbrellas over us which protected us from the sun! My friend and I ordered some beers and got the fried pickles and fried mac and cheese bites - they were SO good and came out piping hot. We could definitely tell that they were freshly fried! Loved the outdoor seating arrangements for this spot. There was a giant tent and the tables were spread out far enough that I felt safe eating around strangers. The location is super convenient too- right off Sandy Hook and by a cute park that overlooks the Bay. However, I didn't really love the food at the Chubby Pickle. I was with a large group, so we tried a number of items off the menu (which has your typical dive bar picks). From our experience, the pulled pork was super salty and had a small drizzle of barbecue sauce. When I picture pulled pork, I want a moist shredded pork roast drenched in sauce! The Chubby Pickle did not deliver anything like that at all. The onion rings were simply battered. Fries were soggy. The boneless wings honestly looked like they were frozen beforehand. The Nachos were just a small tray of tortilla chips with some cheese topped with random slices of jalapeño- not worth the price it was. I don't want to completely bash the place, because it wasn't all that bad! The food came out pretty quick. The burger was decent, Brussel sprouts were really good too. And our server was super friendly and very attentive. BUT, being that a pandemic is still going on, I would like to note that our server had on a very loose-fitting mask that made my group feel a bit uncomfortable. Mini-Me had soda and Hubby had another tap beer, I don't know what he had, I had BP and that's all that mattered. Any way what to order..? always an issue at a new joint, sure, ya think I would have ordered pickles (me too) but instead it was the Smoked Provolone & Bacon Marmalade Grilled Cheese Bites - really good! but next time, pickles for sure. Mini-Me ordered the House Buffalo Wings and these were really big wings, not the average skinny-mini-teeny-tiny wings some places offer you. These were juicy chicken wings, seasoned perfectly. Hubby ordered the Sticky Thai Chili and he took one bite and said OMG these are delicious... he ate every one and picked them clean, he doesn't do that very often. I was impressed. I was in the mood for something crunchy but didn't want a plain ol' salad, so I ordered the Tuna Nicoise. Beautifully presented fresh rare tuna encrusted in sesame seeds laid on a bed of young field greens, crunchy green beans, olives, capers (I LOVE CAPERS) and fresh tomato's with a balsamic dressing that lightly dressed and complimented the salad. Order this as an appetizer and I dare you to share LOL. Honest to goodness this had to be the best salad I have had in a very long time, I actually ate the whole thing and didn't feel like I was cheated on any of the ingredients. The Tuna was a healthy portion the salad itself was filling and the flavors were delicious. I even told the server- this was the best salad! She mentioned they had a new chef that was creating new dishes. * NOTE to the Chef--Well done sir, well done indeed. They have a great outdoor covered patio area with plenty of TV's Inside and out, the bathroom were clean and the staff super friendly, great music selection not too loud that you can't hear your dining companions yet not so quiet you think.. hmmm do I know that song? Finding myself in this relaxed, off the beaten path bar and Grill, was an unexpected treat. This pub has got it together. This place has been around just two years. Tuesday was open-mic nite. It's where anyone who sings or plays an instrument can perform a maximum of three songs. The place was mobbed with the locals and us. My friend invited me to see his niece sing. This pub is very low-key. The staff is very friendly. There's a good craft beer selection too. Tom, presented us with the menus and I ordered a ribeye Philly cheesesteak hot peppers with fries......and a brewsky to wash it down. There's also outside tables to nosh etc. Parking is only available on Bay Avenue. Remember, this is a low-key, down-home joint. Try it if you're in the vicinity.
