Cheese Burger with homemade cheddar sauce and bacon (and fries)

Very cool place on the river. Service is swift and friendly. Burger was excellent and the desserts were delicious. Great shore-vide kind of place with very good food. Will be back.

We love going to Barnacle Bills. The only drawback is the long wait. Last night we were seated around 9:30. They also had a band playing so it was very loud and noisy. BUT, we had a great time. Our waitress did a great job with all our orders (4 people). We all started out with their classic clam chowder soup and followed by their well-known burgers, which the guys ate. Myself and my friend, we both had fish tacos that were prepared very well and tasty. They are known for their iconic Long Island Ice Tea drinks, which my husband and I indulged in. Next time we will go earlier and hope to be seated outside to enjoy the waters edge view. Enjoyed a great night

A classic Rumson eatery. Yum. We sat outside and it was really hot; we had a little bit of shade with the umbrellas. We sat outside because it's loud indoors. The views were beautiful from the outdoor area, that's the best part of their outdoor dining area. You can always count on their food and drinks. I got a virgin Bloody Mary, it was great. For food, I got the crab cakes. Delicious and VERY filling!

Having grown up in Rumson I have patronized Barnacle Bills for over 40 years. The service has always been top notch as in 40 years time I have never had a bad meal. I continued the Sunday dinner tradition with my ow family as we all look forward to it every week.

    Shrimp Po Boy Sandwich

My girlfriend and I recently tried this restaurant. We came on a weekday afternoon, and got seated right away. They have a large parking lot, which is great. Although we were seated right away, the place was super packed. We must of just made it in time. I started off with a beer. I tried the double IPA on draft. It was a very good beer. We then ordered our meals. I tried their burger with pepper jack cheese and bacon, cooked medium. My girlfriend tried their shrimp po boy sandwich. These seemed like 2 popular menu items. And both of them were so delicious. I especially enjoyed my burger. So juicy and flavorful. It was an awesome burger. Great tasting bacon too. The shrimp po boy was pretty tasty as well. That one came with fries, and they both hit the spot. Overall, this was a great place to come have a meal at. I will be coming back. Recommended!

The million dollar view of the Navesink River. Reminds me of a Montauk, NY restaurant (The Crow's Nest)

DOV: 8/30/25, PAX: 2, Arrival Time: Approx 5:15pm , Meal: Dinner__Upon arrival we were told it was about a 40 min wait and we accepted the first available table. Actual wait time was about 20 min and we were seated at one of the high top tables that faced the river. Ambiance is wonderful IF you are sitting near the bar facing the river or you're sitting outside. We ordered a bottle of J Lohr Cabernet and tap water, then went straight into entrees. Hubby had the Baked Seafood Combo with baked potato, and I had the MahiMahi Blackened and grilled with baked potato. My husband was thrilled with his dinner, but not so much for me (I thought the fish was exceptionally watery considering it was grilled). Baked potato was perfect on both plates. Coleslaw (on my plate) was good. For dessert I had a cappuccino (excellent) and we shared a Toll House Pie a la mode (good, but not great). The view of the river and grounds reminded me a bit of The Crow's Nest Inn on Montauk. TIP: Park in the lot on the corner of the street since the restaurant lot fills up quickly!

Barnacle Bills was such a great dinner! Although we waited close to 2 hours for a table (5 people), we grabbed drinks at the bar in the meantime. The bar area is awesome and has a fireplace which is a nice touch in the winter months. Our meal was excellent overall...if you love seafood, this is your place. Service was excellent and attentive to our table. This restaurant offers the best of both worlds being so great during the summer and winter months. Can't wait to sit outside during the summer!

Don't let the "basement bar" concept scare you away. Murphy's Tavern dates all the way back to the Prohibition Era (originally opened by Mary Murphy) and even though drinking is back in business with the 21st amendment, the concept of the intimate space to mingle, drink, and socialize is still there. The owner (not the original, but through generations, has kept the Speakeasy vibe going since the 1920s) runs the show. He's an older gentleman with smokey grey hair and bar tends, busses, and let's you finish every drop of alcohol you want- until 2AM! Then, bam, the light's brighten, and it's closing time! Don't worry, though, he blinks the lights around 1:45 for last call! He is also very personable, relaxed, and makes a mean old fashioned! What is great about this place is it really does transport you back in time. The drinks to order here are the classics, strong liquor, high end cocktails, or beer! Side cars, Manhattans, an old fashioned, etc. Single malt scotch. Whiskey, neat. You can also order beer or a vodka soda, or even a club soda. Prices are reasonable. There is ONE TV in the place. It's refreshing. This is the type of space where you actually TALK to your friends or make new ones. You can also play a variety of games. Darts, shuffle board, or the jukebox (it is modernized and takes dollar bills). Age groups ranged anywhere from 25 to 65. Pleasant crowd. Amazing Place. Classy. If you want to check it out, just keep an eye out. The sign is small, but it's there, and it's real! "Prohibition only drives drunkenness behind doors and into dark places..." Mark Twain SHHHHH!!! You walk down the old steps and the air changes cooler, darker, with the scent of wood and whiskey soaked into the walls. It feels honest, like a place built for men and women who have seen enough of the world to appreciate something simple and true. The story on the wall tells of Prohibition and rumrunners, of Mary Murphy and the river that once hid her secrets. You can still feel that in the glass you hold. The On a Yacht bourbon cocktail has the right burn, softened with mint and peach, the kind that lingers like a good memory. The Blackberry Bramble is bright and sharp, a summer night in a tumbler. You don't come to Murphy's for polish or pretense. You come because it feels alive, because the ghosts of the past sit quietly beside you, raising a glass in approval. A tavern like this doesn't chase the world it waits for those who still know how to listen.

We eat out a lot & many places have good food but what stands out & makes us want to return is when the staff goes out of their way to connect with the guests and they definitely do that here !

It was early Sunday night and the bar was full but the dining area wasn't so we stayed in the bar. Service was excellent, the bartender came around and made sure we were comfortable, handed us menus and brought water. She told us the specials and shortly after our server came by. I was a bit disappointed at the lack of seafood on the menu. My picky girlfriend would have enjoyed some flounder or scallops but they only had a seared salmon and blacked shrimp. The Mrs. Got a burger and it was adequate, nothing to write home about. I got the chicken parm and it was ample and terrific. The tomato sauce was stellar! Sadly I wanted the scallops with risotto. This place has potential, the service is great, the atmosphere is fantastic, plus I know the chef has the chops from visiting his last place, the red store in Navasink. We'll be back but I'll be sure to check for seafood offerings before I go.
